Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional): WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.

3. Attempting a small group of about 6 to view videos and share brief discussions.
4. The more I study God’s Word the more I thirst for it. Organized Bible study keeps me accountable especially when I am leading it. I also need it because I lost my husband unexpectedly on May 31 and He is my comfort and my Rock.
5. This may be an insecurity more than a quirk but for a long time I could only do Bible study with a pencil instead of a pen so I could erase it, if necessary.

In my heart I always love our Lord but, lately I have found it waning. I was praying the other day that he would fill me back up with over flowing love for him and that our relationship would become new once again. Then the next morning after I prayed looked on Facebook and saw your post about bible study. God is soo good and always and gives us what we need
Quirks: perfectionist! But, God has given me 3 boys I think to make me realize things cannot be perfect just go with the flow and enjoy the ride. Lol. He is STILL working in me.

4. I need to be in a study this summer. I am in a dry season right now and need a fresh touch from Jesus! Tough years behind me, deep hurt and a fractured heart, but I still know that my God sees, hears & knows! Won’t stop serving Him or keeping the faith! My oldest of 4 daughters leaves for college this August. Lots of change!
5. Quirk: I am Type A, perfectionist…..so many quirks. I have to have order, I like groceries bagged a certain way, I like my movies in alphabetical order, Basically I have a certain order for everything. I am a quirky person. ; )
Michele, your quirks sound a lot like mine!! 🙂
I’m glad I’m not alone! Blessings!!

My name is Jennifer Tomasik.
I live in San Antonio Texas.
I am doing a small group study this summer.
I am participating in the group for many reasons, I love the Word! I love my friends! I am leaving the US soon and becoming a full time missionary to Skopje, Macedonia. I and II Thessalonians, sent to the church at Thessalonica was part of Biblical Macedonia, and is not far from where we are being “Stationed” by the Lord! 🙂 Exciting subject matter to me! When we were driving to Skopje last year for our “scouting trip” we read the highway signs directing us left to Skopje or right to Thessalonica! That was surreal for someone who saw the Biblical city come to life in front of my eyes.
one of my quirks is that I can never pick a favorite of anything. I have never had a favorite color, ice cream, etc.
1)Sarah
2)St. Peters, MO
3)Small group (total of 4)
4)It’s been too long since I’ve been in group bible study and I miss the accountability it brings.
5)I like different sized spoons for certain things… for instance, big spoon for cereal, small spoon for ice cream!

Quirk: ha ha! I cannot stand when the sheets get untucked from the end of the bed!
Oh my gosh!!! Me either! I will make my husband get up from a dead sleep to just fix them! Lol!!

I’m picky about my pens as well. I ordered them on-line. I like the uniball vision elite, fine point in blue ink!

I am participating in this study because I have been participating in studies recently through my church and have gained a lot from them. I don’t want to stop growing and going further in my walk so I thought this would be a good study for my mom and I to do together.

Going it SOLO in Meridian, MS because I’m having summer Beth Moore withdrawals! ( In a Beth Moore study at church Fall and Spring!)
Hi! My name is Amy and I’m from Johnson City, TN. I’m studying on my own and I just want to stay in the Word through a structured study and we are not having a women’s Bible study at our church during the summer. One of my quirks is being a germ freak!

A quirk of mine….would be I color coordinate the color of my ink pen as close to the cover of whatever study I’m doing. Crazy, I know. 🙂

I have led Ladies Bible Study at my church for 10 years, but this past fall my teenage daughter began a journey that necessitated my stepping down. I knew it was at the Lord’s leading, but I have missed it terribly. So excited to connect with other women who have a heart for my Savior and for growing in the Word.

I need the accountability within the crazy of summer to stay in the Word. Bible study helps me to keep it up. I have a new baby coming in August (already have two girls) and wanted to be able to study 1 & 2 Thessalonians before the new baby arrives.
I have a ridiculous coffee addiction (some might call it a passion). 🙂
Oops – forgot city: Battlefield, Mo
Christy- Its kind of nice to have someone close to where I live. I live in Aurora, MO. I have a few friends in Battlefield and attend church with them in Springfield. Welcome to the group!
1. Heather Jackson
2. Harrogate, TN
3. Going solo!
4. I want to be in Bible Study this summer in particular because spiritually I am in a dry, desert place. I my prayer life is not what it was. I have stopped meeting with Gid in the morning. I rarely open my Bible through the week. I feel distant from my Heavenly Father. As if there is a great divide between us. I feel the draw of the world and I feel myself giving in to that draw. I need a fresh anointing. I need to go deep into His Word, I need to hear Him whisper my name. I need to feel overwhelmed by a Him. I need to love a Him more than I love myself or anything this World has to offer.
5. My biggest quirk ( and stumbling block!) I am an all or nothing girl! From dieting to housework, to my Christian walk. I am either committed 100% or I feel like I am failing.
One of my many little OCD quirks: I absolutely cannot do a Bible study without a yellow highlighter! Cannot do it!

3. Goin’ solo! (Although I may redo this with my group this fall!)
4. I love Beth’s studies — and after extenuating circumstances had us leaving our home congregation three years ago, we’ve been somewhat lost. I’m yearning for God’s word and trying to see ways in which He’s working in my life . . . I’m hoping this study will help me focus more on Him and His purpose for me.
5. I love books – fresh, clean, new, crisp pages . . . and I can’t stand to break the spine on a new book or turn down the pages!
