Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional): WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.
Yanna Westmoreland Bryan/College Station study with College girls who are spread out and local. In the study because I stay in the Word and eagerly come back for more summer series here. My quirk, I like the sheets on the bed made with the wide hem at the top! If someone else ever sneaks a sheet change I can’t sleep until its fixed. Wish sheet companies would make both long ends the same.
Conway, SC
We have a small group that will be doing the study at our church, and some are also participating online. For most, this is their first online study, so they are somewhat skeptical about the online format.
Our group faithfully continues in Bible study, because we each feel we need the accountability to others as well as God . We are looking forward to this study, because we know that Beth has a fresh word for us from Thessalonians.
My quirk: hmmmm…. I am a addicted list-maker; however, they do not succeed in keeping me organized.

Going Solo
I am doing this study to keep myself in the Word this summer, and because I desire to grow closer to Jesus.
I put an ice cube in my coffee after I make it and let it cool to room temperature before I drink it.
Sorry I’m 5 days late registering. Been at Youth camp with my students this past week, but I did start the study while I was there 🙂
1. Angel Brown
2. Rome, Georgia
3. Solo
4. I’m starting this study…one because I can’t be part of a Bible study group at my church since I work in ministry full-time. They all meet when I’m serving/working. And two because I’m in a very dry season right now and I just need to be submerged in the Scriptures.
5. One of my quirks is that I use the bathroom before and after I get out of the shower, even if I don’t really have to. Probably TMI, but we are all girls 😉
Already loving this study and can’t wait to dig in even deeper!!

Very small group, me, my bestie, and our husbands.
Doing the study because I can’t stand the thought of not.
Quirk… I talk for our animals. Dog, cat, cows, chickens, they all have their own voice, their own personality, and they always have something to say.

Group – Daybreak Siestas, meeting in a home
With lots of major change happening this summer, I definitely need stability in the Word.
Quirk – I pull off the bottom half of a cupcake and put it on top of the frosting. This makes it less messy to eat and you get frosting as the middle layer.
Small group – approximately 15
Looking forward to this study!

5. I triple check behind myself in the morning before I leave for school to make sure I have turned off my appliances, unplugged my straighter, etc. 🙂
Lenoir City, Tennessee
A small group of ladies from our church are doing this study, meeting at different homes and Cracker Barrel.
My husband is a new firefighter and is busy doing a lot of training this summer. My daughter is going to Montana to be a missionary intern for six weeks and my son is going on missions as well. Empty nest makes a lonely mom. What better way to spend my lonely time with God.
My quirky thing is I have to put my makeup on before doing my hair.
Baytown, Texas
My daughter Desirea and I will be doing this Bible Study together. Why? We attended the Tuesday Bible Study in Houston and excited to take it deeper. Love going and doing this Bible study with my daughter. I have two girls and we attend the Tuesday studies and love the encouragement and strength that comes from us girls standing firm and growing as women and mother/daughter.
Quirk: My coffee obsession. Take my brownie but not my coffee!
Happy Summer to all.

I wanted to be in the Epistles this summer -and I’m dry —
I’ve done lots of Beth Studies — but it’s been about 5 years
I HAVE to have my coffee first thing with my quiet time also — I need cocoa and coconut creamer in it.
Tuesdays no sugar or junk food — whole foods only — that’s my day to pray for my family to be WHOLY, HOLY HIS — I see sooo many sweet responses from HIM on Tuesday — —

Meeting with a small group from my church
I did an inductive study on I & II Thessalonians this year, but missed some sections on the homework–so appreciate the chance to “fill in the holes”. Also, I wanted to discuss this with women from my church who will have different interpretations of the end times passages from the study I did this year. I have learned so much from the other Beth Moore studies I’ve done, and I’m looking forward to learning more again.
Quirk: I get chills/shudders when I (or someone else) tears cotton balls, paper napkins, paper towels not on the perforations. Something about that shredding fabric that just gets too me!!

3. Doing this long distance with one of my best friends who moved away. We’re calling each other each week to discuss.
4. I need to be in this Bible study this summer because it has been too long. I’ve done boom studies, but they weren’t true, in depth Bible studies.
5. Quirks…I have a bunch! My towels and wash cloths have to be folded just right and stacked neatly. I also have to put Chapstick on every night before bedtime.
I am Mary Ruth Franklin from Lanexa, Virginia. A friend from my small group invited me to study with her this Summer and we look forward to the adventure it will be. We will first study at her home and then via Skype, because she will be on a sailing trip. I would like to grow closer in my relationship with Jesus during this study and I love the added challenges of writing these books as well as memorizing scripture toward that end. An odd quirk I have is that I can’t miss a dentist appointment or a hair appointment for that matter. 🙂

I need a study to keep me in his word, keeps me centered
Hi everyone I am Amanda from Wheeling, WV. I am doing this bible study with a group. To be honest, I have always been involved in church since I was 5 and I just realized even though I was baptized and I attend church I wasn’t really saved. I wasn’t living for Jesus and I need him desperately. I am super excited to get this journey started. Quirk–I have to wear socks to bed, always!

There is a lot of change going on and I need to keep my focus on God and His Word or I will crumble under all that is going on in my life right now.
5. A quirk…I have to go to bed before my husband. I don’t sleep well if he gets there first. I know that’s weird!

5. Every time – EVERY time – I open a soft drink, no matter what size, I blow the “smoke” off the top of the bottle before I take a sip. My Daddy told me when I was little that it makes it taste better, and it’s true! I even have my husband and kids doing it!!

This is my chance to keep my structured time with the Lord while my other studies are on summer break, and also my time to spend with my friend Beth Moore(we have never met but doesn’t matter!). I am so excited about this ! I may be so quirky that one thing doesn’t stand out to me-is asking your dogs questions quirky? Maybe!
