Siesta Summer Bible Study 2014: Launch and Registration!

Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy.ย  On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!

Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:

Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.ย

ย

Hereโ€™s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)

ย

1. Your NAME.

2. Your CITY.

3. Whether youโ€™re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.

4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe itโ€™s that youโ€™ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!

5. BONUS question (optional):ย  WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!

If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.

ย

I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:

ย Week 1 Memory Verse:

ย 1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.

Week 2 Memory Verse:

1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If youโ€™re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions

Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.ย

I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.ย

I will be leading this study in my home on Tuesday mornings from 9-11 am with a group of seven women.

I have not been in a group bible study since January and SO MISS studying God’s word with a group of ladies, so that is why I have chosen to participate and invite others to join me:)!! Last year I did the Gideon summer study solo and missed fellowshipping
    with a group of ladies.

    Good Morning,
My name is Kristi and I am facilitating this study in my home with a group of about 10 women. I live in a tiny town called Moira in Northern New York. I offer a study during the summer- in the morning- with child care available so moms can come. My daughters and I make lunch and invite all to stay. I am a homeschooling mom so summer is a great time for me to pour myself into a study plus have really good fellowship with other women. God has provided us with a beautiful place to live that we like to share. We will not begin our first week until Wed. June 11th.
I had sound on the video until Beth began speaking then I lost it. I hope you all can remedy that.
I am so looking forward to delving into 1 & 2 Thessalonians. I have been reading 1 Thess. every day now for a week and love it. God Bless and it is great to be along. Kristi

    4. I am in bible study this summer because I could not stand to not be in God’s word. But more specifically, I had surgery last Thursday, I am recovering now. I have time over the next 2 weeks to focus more completely on God, then I usually do. (I am a single mother to a 3 year old and 5 year old boys, and also work full time, hence the time management challenge). I pray for complete healing and I rest in the reassurance and knowledge that God will heal me and speak to me through His Word.
    5. Quirk – I am an introvert and need to have alone time to replenish and refresh.

I am doing this study b/c I am usually in study Sept-May and I want to stay in the Word thru the summer.
Quirk: I so related to Beth and the coffee/qt, only I need a sip or two just to get my brain even able to pray :). I go another step as I have to get up really early at least by 4 to get my quiet time in prior to my daily exercise routine as I will not allow “body” to come b/4 God. Doesn’t make be “better” or more holy, it’s just me. I would add that it probably does make me more tired :).

  14. 64
    Nan says:

I live in Richmond, VA and I am so excited to be part of the Summer Bible Study. It has been a few years since I participated in a Bible study and I am starving for the discipline of a group study in His Word. I need His strength and wisdom because I am in a drought spiritually.

I’m doing this study with a friend and we are planning to meet wherever we can over the week! Her house, my house, Waffle House, Starbucks (Heaven knows I need my coffee!)…anywhere we can sit down and spend some time in the material together.

I really wanted to do this study this summer because I’ve always wanted to, but never have been a part of a Beth Moore study and I love the community and encouragement that is so evident here. I also really want to challenge myself to dig a little deeper into the Word and make it a summer of change and growth.

Just one quirk?! Hmm… Well, I think I have recently discovered my love for pickles. I never had a dislike for them but now I can sit with a jar of pickles and have a few as a snack. And I don’t discriminate….dill, bread & butter, I will eat them all! ๐Ÿ™‚

Starting out solo and then leading a group through it starting in a few weeks!!! Not sure how big that group will be yet, but knowing that I will be leading, I can assure you that you will not waste a prayer on us all! (giggle)

Quirk?? Oh, where do I begin … I have pink hair. My coffee at home HAS to be prepared in a certain order (please, for the love of all that is good and right in this world, put the creamer in BEFORE the coffee!!!), I am TERRIFIED of birds and I cannot stomach cold ketchup. At. All. Just … no.

Why do I need Bible study this summer? Because I need HIM more than my next breath! And, also, I will be caring for 4 little girls (2-10) all summer long. Lord, we allllll need me to be in Your Word!

Cannot BEGIN to tell you how excited I am about this thang!
