Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional): WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.
Deborah (Debbie) Burdzy, Calgary Alberta, Canada.
Just me, God and y’all are doing this together 🙂
I am hungry for God’s word and these summer studies have proven to be full of surprises, blessings and insights God seems to want to gift me with.
A quirk…oh my, well, I twirl my hair when I get really sleepy (this is a hold over from my childhood days — given the fact that I have a super short pixie cut there’s not much hair to twirl…come to think of it, I had a pixie cut then and swore I’d never have short hair when I grew up. That didn’t last. 🙂 )
We are Libby and Wendy from Colorado Springs. We are doing this together this summer, just two friends at my kitchen table! Libby is doing Bible study this summer because SHE needs it. I’m doing it because I can’t not! We have made a habit of doing the Summer Siesta Bible Study for I don’t know how many summers now. Since they started I guess! Libby’s quirk is that she loves to tell me how to drive. She’s from California and I’m from NY. Nuff said! My quirk…hmm…I speak two languages…English and Sarcasm. Gets me in trouble, but I like it about myself! Looking forward to a fun summer in the Word!

I haven’t been able to attend a Bible study for the last few years due to migraines:(. This online study will fit into my schedule and if I have a bag of ice on my head, no one will know!
When I’m happy I sing(very quietly if I’m at work).

Not going solo, this year! With the hubby. haven’t decided where we’ll meet, yet
I can always use Bible Study, definitely keeps us on our toes, but this year going through some hard things still, and the encouragement and remembering Truth is definitely needed.
a Quirk? Just one?!? :0) I have to sleep with my hair up over my pillow. I just CANNOT sleep on top of my hair!
I miss Kenosha!

Because of some circumstances and disappointments at my church I desperately need my focus to be on God this summer and not man.

We have a study that meets in my home thru-out the year but we don’t meet in the summer. I want and need it!!! 🙂
Can NOT commit on a vacay until last minute. As my family says, “She just will not push the button!” (as in, on my computer to make reserves!)
I am not as mobile as I once but my mind still needs the word of God

3. Small group with my mom and my grandmother
4. I have never done a Beth Moore Bible study but I grew up listening to her tapes and seeing my mom do the Bible studies every morning so I decided to do this study with Mom and GG (my grandmother).
5. I have a (good) habit of putting the safety on when I’m shooting my pump shotgun. So when I’m shooting true doubles in skeet, I shoot, pump, put the safety on, take it off, and shoot again! My brothers and my dad don’t understand why I do it, I guess it’s just a habit 🙂

4. I lost my younger brother in an accident in jan. 2013. It has been a very difficult time for me. I have felt God’s peace through my loss. I want to hear from God and to grow spiritually through this study. Summer is the best time for my b/c I am a teacher. THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS! I am feeling blessed already.
Kristen,
I’m so sorry for your loss. I pray this study helps draw you nearer to God and brings you peace. I lost my younger brother 6 years ago. I couldn’t find any peace until I dug deep (as Beth would say “I mean deeeeep.”) in the word of God. Look for God working in your life. He loves you.
I am unable to type the information to register but I want to do the study and will be going solo…from Amarillo, Texas. Quirk: Spaghetti Straps bother me
so I won’t even look at anything that has them!
Patti, Clemmons, NC. Going Solo for the 1st time.
4. I am facilitating Daniel with a new group and wanted to expose myself to the materials this summer for the study to be done in the late summer and late Fall.
Quirk: I don’t like using a middle public toilet! I heard the ones on the end are cleaner and I use those…so weird.

3. Small group with my daughter and my mom! 🙂
4. Because I am a Bible study junkie! I can not get enough of Him and His Word!!
5. If my coffee creamer is the refrigerated type (1/2 and 1/2, milk, flavored creamer, etc.)… I have to put some into my mug and then microwave it to heat it up before I add my coffee. 🙂 Otherwise my coffee gets too cold too fast 😉
I do that same thing. I always have to warm my flavored creamer in the microwave before putting the coffee in!

I want to do this study because I made a commitment at the beginning of this year that by the end of it I would be more physically and spiritually fit than I was at the beginning! Being in a group and having homework keeps me on track.
One of my quirks is that I count down backwards from 10 when I pee and must finish by 1. Weird isn’t it?
Oh, my. I love your quirk! Totally something I would do. Bahhahhaha.
Your quirk CRACKED ME up!! Thanks for the chuckle 🙂

I am doing this study with 5 other women. We have done lots of Bible studies together over the past decade or two. I love getting together with these gals!
We are meeting in the home of the gal who purchased the study dvd’s.
One of my quirks is that I love deals! I will be happy all day if I find a good enough deal. In fact, just yesterday, I found CFL lightbulbs at Costco that were so reduced in price from instant rebates, that they were nearly free!!

3. Meeting with a small group (for the 1st time) of 2-3 of my closest friends
4. I am engaging in this study because it is hard for me to maintain the discipline of study in the summer as an educator who has time “off”. This keeps me accountable and in the Word on a regular basis.
5. Quirk? I absolutely love all types of sports and would totally not need cable if ESPN were to become a regular station.
Missouri City, Texas
Laura and I are doing this study together. We are neighbors so we will meet at one of our houses.
We both want a summer bible study to stay in God’s word and keep us hopeful and positive for the good things God has in store for us.
My quirk (Melinda): I have an obsession with cinnamon. Love it! Cinnamon on anything makes it taste soooo much better! Try it you’ll like it! And it’s good for you.
Happy Summer!

4. This time last year I was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. I wanted to keep my mind on God’s word, so I did the James study during those months of treatment. This summer, I want to continue to study God’s word, but without the “chemo-brain” hindrance I experienced last year!
5. My quirk is watching the old, black and white kind of movies over and over again…I like to record them and then turn one on when I have to clean the house or do some laborious chore.
KRISTEN GAMA from TRACY , CA going SOLO. I’m doing this because study to STAY FED. I might actually be the definition of quirky.

I have never done a bible study before and I am so excited to participate in this one. My husband and I are in the process of moving to Amarillo, TX and I really feel like this will be great, as we go through a major life change.
My quirk is when I get really tired the filter on my mouth disappears and I can’t seem to shut up. If you want me to be blunt or tell a secret, ask me after midnight 😉

2. Brandon, MS
3. I was supposed to be doing this with a friend, but so far, I’m solo.
4. I am in Explorers Bible Study thru the year but it seems like summers just go by without study because there is nothing to hold me to it. I am participating in this study to keep myself IN THE WORD. We studied 1&2 Thessalonians in Explorers this year and are studying Isaiah this coming year. I’m looking forward to the teaching.
5. Quirk: I always always always have something to drink nearby. You almost never see me without a drink over ice. It’s usually something like Dr. Pepper, but also sweet tea, or ice water. I’m always thirsty – may my soul be thirsty as well.

3. I am doing the Blog as I found it interesting that we had planned to do Children of the Day study and you are doing this as well. So, I will be trying to do this in parallel with a Study Group that will be starting on Monday, June 9. Our group has about 7 Women.
4. I am interested in the continue the process of study that God has started me on. Bible Study also helps to keep me in the word when my life is so busy and crazy. I am newly divorced and am a single mother now and the craziness of this makes me feel I need as much of God as possible.
5. Not sure of a quirk…
Going solo. Torn tendon. Forced to rest.

I’m going through a difficult season; my small group took a summer break and I need to stay in the Word.
I’m quirky about numbers. I don’t like numbers that end in odd numbers unless it is 5.
I am doing this study with my best friend from high school. We’ll be meeting by Skype or chatting by email since we live in different states. This winter we started emailing Bible verses daily throughout a difficult time for my friend. We didn’t want to give it up once the most critical time had passed. My quirk? I talk to myself all the time.

4. I have been taking college classes for the last two years and have been neglecting my study/ alone time with God. I need to get back in His word and study at the same time. I saw this and God drew me even further into it! It was meant to be!
5. A quirk I have is that I tend to go overboard on just about everything I do!

At a glance, you wouldn’t know, but I am in need of refreshment from the Lord; and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to do this study this summer. Thank you:)
