Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional): WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.

4. It’s been about a year since I’ve done a bible study – I love the way you write your studies and get me motivated to be in the Word daily! I really need to be ministered by the Holy Spirit this summer. I will be commuting every other week between my city and one about 3 hours away to be with my mother-in-law who is fighting cancer. I’m not looking forward to it at all – I feel weak and need strength to face it! My children are grown, but I will be away from my husband and I don’t like that idea. You will be my community this summer!
5. I love to dance to any music that has a good beat and great melody. Yes, it embarrassed my children when I danced in front of their friends!
Christine Krueger

With a small group of 4 of us ladies:)
I’ve always thought about a summer study when they come around but this is the first one it really worked out for me an my friends to do it together. They are such great organizers, it was easy to jump in and commit!
My husband says that I’m a very loud chewer… Even with my mouth closed!;)
1. Annette
2. Blaine, MN
3. Small group – I am blessed to be part of a group of 10 women who have been meeting every summer for Bible Study. We meet at 6:45am on Tuesday mornings at the home of one of the women so that those who work can still get to work on time. We started meeting on May 27, so we already have two weeks of blessing behind us!
4. I need the accountability of sister in Christ to keep me in the Word in a deep way, and our summer study does that for me. I am in a challenging season of life right now and greatly need my mind and heart open to hear from God. Being in the Word is the best way to make that possible.
5. Quirk – I drink diet coke like most people drink coffee. I could pull a can out of the fridge in the morning, but I prefer to go through the drive-thru at McDonalds. It’s like my little ceremonial start to the day.

Doing this study solo for the summer
I’m in this study because I really needed a structured study for the summer and I’m really in a difficult season in life right now. After listening to the introduction, I know for sure this study is where God wants me RIGHT NOW!
However – in this difficult time, as I type this my daughter and son-in-law are in the air flying to Ethiopia to meet their adopted son for the first time (and my first grandchild). God is good!
Quirk: I hate peanut butter- almost un-American, I know.

3) small group of three, meeting in each other’s homes
4) need a fresh outpouring of His Spirit. Definitely have felt dry and in a desert place lately. Looking for refreshment and a deeper understanding of His Word.
5) too many to list… I do eat ketchup on my scrambled eggs (not poached or an egg any other way but only scrambled). I thought this was normal since my dad does, too, but people look at me funny when I do it. 🙂

4. It’s been a while since I’ve done a Beth Moore bible study & was super excited to hear about this one online. This is my first online study.
5. I’m OCD about putting things back in their exact location and about organizing.
Question.
Is there going to be a place on the blog where we can put questions and comments about what we are studying?
I have a question about Day 4, page 29.
There is question about John 20:25. We are to write it and then circle the word “mark”.
None of the versions I checked use the word “mark”. Does anyone use a version with the word mark?
Thanks.
Not able to participate this summer but look forward to getting a workbook later when finances allow.

Jodi Barnes, Sundown TX. I am checking in to represent our 2 Ladies Bible Study groups from Victory Life Baptist Church in Lubbock TX. We prayed over what study to offer this summer and God led us to this one! We have a group on Wed evenings and Thursday mornings meeting. We started with a total of about 40 women! We are looking forward to Beth coming to Lubbock in July! Many reasons why our ladies are in this study, but I will share my personal season of life. God allowed a mountain to be placed in my life and instead of moving it he has had me climb it for a transformation experience!

4. The need for this Bible Study is to keep me in the Word, refreshed and in a place to receive from the Lord during the summer months. There is such a dryness very fast when I don’t have other believers closely involved in this process.
5. The quirk on the top of my mind now is that ever since I was a kid, I have loved rainbow sherbert ice cream with hot fudge and whipped cream toppings. Most find this very much not a match, but I love it! 🙂
