Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.Â
Â
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
Â
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional):Â WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
Â
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
 Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.Â
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.Â
Nina–Concord–With a group–I missed the last study with my weekly group and really need to get back at.
Well, look at you! Our Nina is #1.
Can’t wait! My husband is doing this study with me!

Going solo!
We have just finished the David study at our church & I LOVE being in a Bible study! This summer one is just what I needed….one that I can enjoy & that I’m not leading.
I have LOTS of quirks so it’s hard to pick out just ONE!LOL
Looking forward to this study!!!

Have to get back into His Word. So easy to fluff off in summer. Must be more disciplined.
My quirk is people who think they know it all yet have no clue what they are talking about.

Just my daughter and I. We’ll meet in our homes.
I’m Bekah from Marion, Indiana. I’ve invited a group of six to join me at my house for this study! I’m excited to do this study because I’m a commuter and don’t have a way to get involved in established studies at our church because of my crazy schedule. I’ve missed the structure and accountability of a good Beth study! My quirk? Too many to name – but I have to sit on the end of pews by doors – got stuck in the middle of a pew one time when I got sick and now have a phobia of that happening again!
Cindy, Lakeland FL. I am going solo this time and just need the Words of Jesus in my life as much as possible. I am so EXCITED to do this study with everyone. I love to read but I have to read the end of the book first!
1. Jill Hatcher
2. Norman, Oklahoma
3. Small Group meeting at my house which includes 16 ladies from various churches ranging in age from 18-50something. We have local teens volunteering babysitting services to watch 7 babies and 10 children. It is going to be awesome!
4. I tried to ignore the post about the summer study and that obviously didn’t work. I just HAD to pull a group together. So, I sent out an email to a smattering of girls and one of the very first replies said she had also read the summer study post and thought, boy that’d be nice! God has a funny way of poking people with a stick until they figure out it is the Holy Spirit moving in you!
5. I like burritos. Any time of the day or night. (Only applies to Jill, not the whole group)

4. God moving more in my life with His plan for me and I want to get ready for what He has in store.
5. Quirk – If I eat M&M’s, I like to put 1 of each color into groups and eat the group that has the least amount in it first. 🙂

Need to go deeper in the Word and need the camaraderie of other women.

Too many to choose just one!

Two of us working through it together with you.
I love doing a summer bible study because as a home-schooling mom, summer gives me the down time and freedom to dig deeper and grow in my walk with Jesus. Refreshing, reviving and growing!
I’ve never studied, only read, 1 and 2 Thes so this is going to be awesome!!
Quirks… just one? LOL I hate to hear people chewing ice or scrapping forks on dishes.
I live in Carrollton, GA. I am a long time (old) Bible study leader but we generally take summers off. I need this study to recharge as I think this study will be our first study when we begin again in the fall.
My quirk – too many to count!
From Dayton, TX. Small group, not sure how many yet. Our church is not having Wednesday night Bible study this summer, so I need some structure in the Word!! God bless!!

2. Charlottesville, VA
3. I’ll be doing this study with one other person. We’ll meet in our homes.
4. I am in a challenging season of life and I want to press into God’s Word. God alone is my Strength and my Hope; I want to know Him more.
5. Quirk: I don’t like for my foods to touch each other on my plate.

Solo study 🙂
Why? Love, love, LOVE in-depth Bible study!
• Larissa Lusko
• Miami & Albuquerque
• I started a CotD Facebook Small Group and we presently have 29 women (and growing) in the group from all over the US (New Mexico, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, North Carolina, & South Dakota).
• It’s been a while since I’ve done a Beth study and am craving to delve into the Word deeply as Beth ushers us.
Larissa –
Is there a way that others can join this? I’d love to have people to study this with — and be accountable to.

I would love to join your group if possible.
I Will be leading this study in 2 small groups on the fall – one with video and one without. I want to follow someone else who does this study so I can learn first tips as to how to lead without the video. P.S. already love the 2 memory verses. Haven’t seen the video yet, but will review later this eve.
Instead of the small group which normally meets in my home, I’ll be solo on this one. Life is empty when I am not in His Word.
Annette
Richmond, TX
I’m Ashley from Grand Junction, Colorado and I’m doing this study solo.
I’m jumping on board with this particular summer Bible study because 1) I need to my very core to be in the Word daily and 2) I’m sensing a hardness in my heart creeping in towards the Church in general and I’m begging God to soften me once again to use me in His uniquely ordained ways. Diving deep into the Church’s passionate early days will hopefully reignite my heart for the Church as I know it today. Trusting God will work in my heart in this way.
And oh yes, a quirk of mine?! My favorite way to eat potato chips is with pickle juice drizzled over them!

2. Norman, OK
3. Meeting with my small group called Women in the Word. We fluctuate between 4 and 10.
4. My heart is broken and my full time ministry is flourishing at the same time. GRACE has been the message God has been pounding in my head since January. I need Him more now than ever. I’m hungry! 🙂
5. I can’t think of anything quirky. I’m just overall weird. Ask my family. 🙂
My name is Connie Powell and I am from Portsmouth, Virginia. I have two friends who are also doing this Bible Study with me. I am excited to be a part of a bigger group that spans the states! This is an awesome way for me to stay biz Gods Word and dig deeper over the summer! Love the accountability! My quirk is people who quit in the middle of something! Stay focused and don’t give up!
We are meeting in a small group of 3-5 women. We will be rotating houses. We all love to be in God’s word and grow in Christ and share life together. We are from Minneapolis, MN.
1. Beth
2. Knoxville, TN
3. Flying solo for this one (in week 4 now)
4. I”m really hungry for Him and need a deep refreshing from the Lord…..it’s been a hard year and summer’s can be challenging. I’m a counselor in member care with a large ministry and need to regroup.
5. Um, I still have a sweat towel from a New Kids on the Block concert from 1991. In a ziploc bag. Don’t hate!

4. Since it appeared our church wasn’t doing a Ladies Study I started looking around online for one and somehow landed here and saw you were doing one of your own, so I decided I would camp in Thessalonians with you and celebrate all God has to teach me this summer.
5. Well, maybe not a quirk, but I get told when I say “I wondered” in Bible Study, they get ready, because it’s usually something they had never thought of. Yeah, I do wonder sometimes and that’s why growing deep in God reminds me of hydrangeas.
1. Anna Morgan
2. Permanent – Birmingham, AL; for the summer – Costa Rica
3. SOLO
4. I will be serving with a missions organization (Praying Pelican Missions) as a missions trip leader in Costa Rica. I also know it’s important for me to be connected in a community of women… even if it’s virtual. I need to be continually filled up and in the Word and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the studies that Beth Moore has written.
5. Breakfast is my favorite food. At a fast food restaurant, I order 2 plain biscuits with no butter.

I am expecting my first baby in the fall and just really need some good scripture to keep me grounded and to be a godly mother for my child! Without Christ I will be a hopeless wreck so I want to be as prepared as He can make me!
My quirk – without me saying a word you can tell exactly what I am thinking by the look on my face! Not too sure if that is good or bad…but it is me!
Oak Point, Texas
Right now, going solo, but perhaps will start a group!
I need to be in the Scriptures with some women who love them.
don’t know if this is a quirk, but: I can make up a song for anything! 🙂

In my home
I;m particuarly pumped for this study because in less than one year everything is going to change for our family. I have no idea where in the world (literally) I will be living or what job my lover of a husband will have, or what my life will look like. In crazy seasons like these–ones that require great faith–HE shows up a lot and can get awfully chatty. So, I want to be positioned for listening!! Woohoo!!
LeaJean Schrader, McAlester, Oklahoma. I’m in a group of 3 women and we are all in different states(California/Texas/Oklahoma). We will be watching the videos at home, and working in the study guide. Then we will discuss the study on a facebook group. I want to keep my mind focused during the summer while staying inside trying to beat the heat with four kids!
Hi! My name is Sarah. I live in Iowa right now, but my family and I are moving to Dayton, Oh in 3 days! We are planting a church, so that and being in a new city are why I’m doing this study. I will also be in a group with some other church planting ladies. So excited to start ; I haven’t done a Beth study in a while.
Good Morning Everyone,
My name is Misty and I live in Pflugerville, Texas.
I am participating in this Bible Study with a Small Group online. We are a private group of 12 ladies who meet on Facebook. We are participating from California, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Each Summer my regular small group takes a break so I lead lead an online study in order to stay in the Word. I look forward to studying 1st and 2nd Thessalonians this Summer with some smart, amazing, beautiful and God loving women.
My quirky trait is that I tear envelopes in half once I have viewed what is inside of them. I do this to all junk mail and other mail that I am finished reading!

4. I LOVE Bible study, but also love the structure of a “class” to keep me on track in the summer.
5. Too organized; hence, the love of a class!

2.Small Group, 10 women
4. This is my first time leading a small group as God laid it on my heart to do so. Our church does a message based series for small groups and I wanted to do a more focused study that went deeper. So I am following His calling!
5. I vacuum almost every day!
Hello,
Amanda Holloway from Spearsville, LA. So excited about COTD Bible study! I want to do this study because, for me, having a focused study keeps me focused and staying in God’s Word. Love all Beth’s studies. I will be participating with a friend from Michigan.
Susan Potantus
Morriston, Florida
My Bible Study girls have been encouraged to do this study, but we are doing it individually in preparation for COTD in the fall when we resume.
I am in this Bible study because I love Beth’s teaching of the Word and need to get ready for the fall study!
A quirk??? I am over zealous…almost anxious. We are in different time zones. I was emailing LPM and on the phone to you before I realized the blog would be an hour later for me! haha. Can’t wait to begin!
1. Kristen Ottens
2. Mount Joy, PA
3. My sister Karin and I are doing the study together. I am in PA and she is in NJ.
4. I miss doing a structured Bible study with a group and having great discussions!
5. I have a hard time sleeping unless the covers are all neatly tucked in at the bottom of the bed.
Fleming Island Fl, Solo, I am in Bible Study this Summer to prepare to teach this in the Fall to the group of 25 ladies that meet in my home each week.

Hi!
Sarah Frazer
Charleston, West Virginia
Small Group – 6 WONDERFUL girls!
I really need the accountability.
I also really need the fellowship with other girls!
We are meeting at my house every two weeks.
This is our first Beth Moore study, but as a group we’ve gone through 3 other studies!
One of my quirks is when I make to-do lists, I write down things I know I have to do. I write them down just so I can check them off! (i.e. – make dinner!) Haha
I am doing this study solo. I have not done a study for a couple years and want to be intentional this summer. Blessings to you all!
Howdy, I’m from Dallas, TX and will be flying solo for this summer study. I have never studied the Thessalonian books in depth so I was thrilled to discover that Beth had written COTD. I am quirky about a peanut butter knife. I love peanut butter but hate getting peanut butter on my hands, so I made it a rule in our house that everyone must use a paper towel to wipe the peanut butter off before placing it in the sink. So weird!
Hi Carol.. I’m the same way about peanut butter on knives, spoons, plates, or bowls. But, I can’t get anyone to wipe it off but myself !! Lol.

Women of Hope Fellowship, a group of 9 mostly meeting on a secret Facebook page with occasional face-to-face.
Life has gotten too busy, I’m ready to regroup and reconnect with these ladies from my church. Many will be out of town, some are young moms, so this secret FB page format works best for us. And ALWAYS more of Jesus!
One of my quirks: I buy boxes of Jello, thinking I’ll make good ole’ fashioned Jello like my grandma did…and I don’t ever do anything with them. They’ve even expired in my pantry.

I need to stay grounded in the word and summers are so busy that it becomes difficult unless you are intentional. This helps me to be intentional.
I am excited to be able to do this Bible study.
Debra Nesbitt from Searcy, AR. Have done many of your Bible Studies and love how you keep us in the word! Quirk–I hate to leave church or a social gathering with out saying bye to my closest friends.
