Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional): WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.

5. My quirk: When I walk or exercise, I count my steps as a way to keep myself going. I hate to end on an uneven number, so although I’ve met a time goal, will not quit until I reach my goal on the number of steps or reps.

FREAKY!!
Hello. My name is Kody. I am going to be going through this study solo in Tennessee but not alone, as you sweet gals are going along as well. I need this summer study because it’s been almost 3 years since I’ve been apart of a women’s group. I need this. I need Him more.
Quirk? Well, I really want to like shrimp but I can’t. I try to eat it EVERYTIME but I can’t stand the way it taste and feels when I chew it. Everyone else in the house LOVES it and I want to so bad, I just can’t make myself eat it.
Looking forward to the study ladies!

I could use this study because I just need a fresh new word, I need to excited about Christ–it’s been a long winter and a long spring–I just need to hear Him, feel Him, and feel Him.
When I go to bed I have to start the dishwasher-even if there is only a couple of things in there–
I am Julie! I will be doing this bible study with Wendy, Jennie, Sunday & Melody. I am doing it because I need a structured bible study- especially during the summer… A quirk- I am totally OCD and can’t really go to sleep without my house being straight!!

5. I can’t sleep without a fan. Most people get souvenirs on vacations while I usually have to go buy a fan because I forgot mine.
I am Terri Wiens from Monmouth, Oregon.
I am doing this study solo.
My reason for wanting to do the study is that I need to be in God’s word on a regular, structured basis, with community to grow….even in the summer.
A Quirk : I like ketchup on my cottage cheese.

4. This study will help me be consistent with my daily study of Gods word during the BUSY summer days of kids running everywhere.
5. I have to spread butter or peanut butter to the very edge of toast. It has to be even. 🙂
My name is Jamie and I live in Athens, TX. I will be doing this solo. I had already chosen to do the study and was excited to learn it was your ssbs. I am longing for a deeper connection and to be in his word daily to strengthen and inspire my walk and ministry. We are going through times of change and some discouragement in our faith family and are looking to be continually refreshed by The Lord as He guides us to the next step. This is not my first bible study but my first Beth Moore study so I am looking forward to it. A quirk that I have is I do not like to be the first one anywhere 🙂

I am doing the study with my friend Carol – we will take turns meeting at each others’ houses and plan to join online, too. Our friend Christe is listening to the cds as she drives back and forth to work and hopefully she will join us for discussion sometimes, too. This is my first experience with an online study. I have done many of Beth’s studies and always learn a lot.
Why this summer? I am craving the regularity of being in a bible study. I usually do several studies a year but two things were different this past year – our church offered fewer options for women(they shifted the focus to men’s studies)and I was hesitant to commit to a group because BOTH of my daughters gave birth to baby boys – one in October and one in November (our first grandchildren!)so I spent a great deal of time out of town, helping them with their babies.
A quirk – I am a foodie and love to cook and bake – it is an art form for me, an expression of love. I insist that my hot food is hot and my cold food is cold (I hate lukewarm food)
My friend Lori and I had bought our Children of the Day books and had starting this study on our calendar when Sunday June 1st Lori’s husband was cycling and got hit by a car. He took his first breath in heaven at 5:15pm. Lori and I still want o do this study as we know that none of this is a surprise to God. Will the videos continue to be online? for us to go back and watch? We will be starting late.

We had two churches join together to do this study, because of my family life I have missed already 3 out of 4 sessions and really want to dig into this material. I am joining so I can continue with this study with the video sessions in my home without the comings and goings of children, husbands, and vacations getting in the way.

Small group of 4, meeting either in our homes or First Baptist Church, Jasper, Fl
I want to e involved in this Bible Study to stay in the Word and have more accountability with God and my friends. I love the fellowship and insight that I recieve from my stronger, more mature peers.
One of my many quirks is that I growl when I get frustrated. I notice that I am growling more frequently lately, so I suppose life must be getting more frustrating. Hopefully, I will work on eliminating this quirk during this study! 😉

3. solo – but am going to encourage friends to participate
4. Our ladies group does not meet in the summer due to so many crazy schedules – but I truly miss spending time in a study during those months and need that time with God. This keeps me centered and focused.
5. Quirks . . ahh . . too many and the most prominent might vary according to the person in my house that you ask. 🙂 1) I cannot leave to go out of town until my house is clean. 2) Before I head out for the day, I go through the house making sure everything is turned off before I leave . . and then after I leave ALWAYS stress about whether I really did unplug my curling iron/flat iron or turned off the coffee pot.

3 – I’m going solo on this one (well, me and Jesus)
4 – I’m in need of some Jesus and me time. I got really busy over the last 6 months working 2 jobs and my alone time with Him has taken the brunt of the impact!
5 – When I eat cereal, I find myself counting the number of pieces on my spoon. If it’s colored (like fruit loops), it gets worse. Then it’s 1 blue, 3 red, 1 yellow, so 5 (you get the picture)!

I thought it would be really fun to go through a new Beth Moore study along with Beth, and so many others doing this study for the very first time. Also, I have a job that really demands dependance on Him, so I feel like a can’t afford to not be in the Word during this season, even through a busy summer!

Small group – mentorship. Meeting at Boston Stoker or one of our houses
It provides a bible study for us to work through together and will help us take advantage of our lighter summer schedule while we’re on break from school.
I have tons of food quirks, but one is that I don’t eat sandwiches.
Kathi, Kimberly, Tracie, and anybody else who stops by for coffee and conversation.
We normally participate in the Ladies Bible Study at our church, but want a more flexible schedule for the summer. We will try to meet weekly at one of our houses but will plan around vacations, needy children, and life’s interruptions. Our intent is to enjoy our summer while staying connected to each other and God’s Word.
