Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.Â
Â
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
Â
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional):Â WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
Â
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
 Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.Â
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.Â

4. I would really like to use my summer break from teaching wisely and productively this year. Don’t get me wrong there will be plenty of rest and lounging but I would like to come out of this “restful” time with a greater and deeper relationship with the Lord.
5. Quirk…I have lots of them…does that make them quirks or just odd personality traits?

I’m hooked to doing bible studies, I’m a late bloomer, and am eager to learn Gods Words and how to live them out.
A quirk of my is I have to have thing in it s own place the way I placed them, so don’t move or not put them back

$) I’m so hungry for more of God’s Word!
5) Quirk: I love journaling, but hate to start a new journal! I always have to write a whole entry about how I now have to trust this new “friend” and what a struggle it is! I also have to write a warning on the very first page for anyone who is reading it to “Please put this down!!”
My sister & I are doing the study together.
I need the structure of a bible study this summer to stay in the Word.
I eat the same foods – I don’t need a lot of variety in my food choices.

3. Group! I am leading the study for some of the teachers on staff at my school.
4. It is hard to do a lot during the school year, so I try to use my summer bible studies to grow and push me for the next school year.
As a former Bible teacher, leader and mentor, I find myself in a quiet/dry time seeking His Face, His Will and His Way. God used your Believing God online study to change me forever 10 years ago. Though I have worked through many studies since that time, I do see this as an answer to prayer! Thank you for all the work that goes in to offering this study online! I know I will be challenged and blessed!

4. I’m in the process of a dissolution after learning of my husband’s infidelity (I left on our 24-year wedding anniversary), my only child is leaving for college for the first time in August, I am guardian of my father who has Alzheimer’s, need I say more? I NEED to be in the Word. I WANT to be in the Word.
5. I have liked everything to be neat and tidy in my house, my office, my car all of my life. And for the life of me, I don’t know why I just can’t do it right now and there are messes everywhere.
1. Sarah Stirman
2. McKinney, Texas
3. Going solo
4. Going through a tough personal season. Weary from fighting off discouragement. Looking for strength in the Word.
5. Besides flipping out over all office supplies, I am a pen FREAK. I have a huge colorful collection (I’ve already started the study and am pleased as punch with myself about how colorful my writing of the passage is). I am currently taking college classes and find that if I get to class without one of my colors, I am a little anxious all class (how in heaven’s name can one make it through Organic Chemistry without the green pen? You can’t, I tell you. You just can’t).
You go girl with all those colors! Good study habits encourage the use of different color pens to take notes to help with recall-it helps your brain sort through the information and narrow down where to look. Also, chewing the same flavor gum while studying and taking a test can help with memory recall.
I completed registration yesterday, but have not been able to find my post (neither has my Bible study partner…), so I thought I’d do it again, just to be on the safe side!
1. Tessa Oestman
2. Alliance, Nebraska
3. Working on this with my mom! We live three hours apart, and she is thinking about coming to visit us every other week so we can do the study together in person! (Visiting the grand babies might have something to do with it… 🙂
4. I used to do Bible studies all of the time, but have gotten out of the habit. I have been doing quiet time on my own, and really seeking Him lately, but was also looking for a Bible study. When my mom asked if I would do this online one, I jumped on it. I’ve done two of Beth’s studies already, and loved them! Even the homework! 🙂
5. BONUS question: One quirk is that I love flat pop. When I get a bottle of pop, I drink it about 1/4 of the way, put the lid back on, and shake it up! My husband thinks I’m nuts! 🙂

Hi My name is Christy Mercado. I am from Lithia Florida. I am doing this study with a ‘small’ group (two other very dear soul sisters of mine) and we are planning to skype once a week but will probably be texting back and forth daily! I am in the process of adopting two babies I have fostered the last year and a half. They are a 2 and 3 year old sister and brother, this will make me a mother of 7 (5 biological and 2 adopted). This bible study is a little, very much needed ‘ME’ time that helps me be a stronger, God lead mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. I have done many group studies in the past (my latest being Daniel) and attended a few live events as well as simulcast events. It blesses me in such a wonderful way that it allows me to let Gods love and light flow to others. This is the first online study I have done and I am looking forward to the ability to do this from my home while the kids are here at home for the summer, giving me time to spend with them along with allowing me to have my quiet time when they too are being quiet. 🙂 God Bless each and everyone that is taking part in this very special study! Thank you Beth for allowing God to use you to touch so many lives and reconnect all of us to the body in such a wonderful Spirit filled way! Thank you Father for your love and guidance, for all the precious sisters you put in our lives and for what YOU are about to do through this study as only YOU can do! Amen!
oops! i forgot my quirk….
I LOVE babies and mothering others! I would FILL my house with people to take care of if it wouldn’t drive my husband nuts! we have allowed several people to temporarily move in while in transition in their lives and it is such a blessing to be able to be able to provide an open door to others! i also have a couple other quirks…. I like to be the first one to read a purchased or received magazine, drives me nuts if someone else looks through it before me and the word Manila is like nails on a chalkboard to me, i dont know why, it just makes me cringe! (so bad that my kids TEXT it to me from time to time)

(doing this again because I didn’t follow all the directions!)
Going solo, but hoping to have a friend join me!
This summer I need study and God’s word to help me deal with becoming an empty nester. I have stayed at home for 22 years. My third (and youngest) daughter heads off to Cleveland for college in August. This ends right as she leaves and the older to head off to be near Beth at Rice University in Houston. They are far and I have big changes coming!
QUIRK: I don’t like reading directions (except for driving directions!)

Guthrie Ok
my sister in Christ and workout buddy, we will meet on our way back and forth to Jazzercise every morning, 30 min drive
We are both very involved in ministry, and need to be continually filled with the Word so we in turn can pour into others
my personality, it has been described as “Quirky” not sure what that means, but I know I am God’s “Masterpiece” so it is ok with me!
I can really identify with Carole! I too am experiencing “empty nest”! I was so blessed to have been a stay at home mom. Our daughter got married last summer, our son gets married July 12, not sure I’m ready for a empty house.
