Siesta Scholarship Fund

Hey, Siestas! I have something very exciting to share with you! Let me give you a little background so you’ll get the full picture. Like most of you, I was deeply burdened by the financial needs our sisters shared on the blog several weeks ago. My LPM staff of mighty prayer warriors and I divided up every one of those needs and prayed for them specifically. I also deliberated over and over before God about what else I could do. I can’t tell you how much I wanted to just start writing checks. Living Proof Ministries does not have the kind of non-profit that can give cash to individuals, so my frustration mounted. That’s when the Lord spoke such a clear word to me in my heart. It went something like this:

“Stick with what I’ve called you to do at the ministry. You can’t give away money but you can give away many other material things to people and churches that could really use them.” God then began to lay out a strategic plan to set up a scholarship fund through our blog community to donate materials (books, CD’s, DVD’s, and event tickets) to those whom God directs. LPM has always actively donated, but setting up a fund like this would greatly enhance what we’re able to give and also add a fabulous dimension to our community.

I immediately went to Linda, our LPM accountant, told her the vision as I understood it from God and asked her if it would work. She gave it a thumbs-up and began setting up the system and, as of right now, it is up and running. Here’s how it will work: We will now have a way for any of you Siestas who are not as financially strapped to give any amount of money the Lord directs to what will now be called “The Siesta Scholarship Fund.” Girlfriend, it can be $5 and we’d be thrilled! Your Siesta Mama is going to put up or shut up, so I want you to know that I brought my checkbook from home and, with great joy, am making the very first ever donation, $1,000, to our new scholarship fund. In fact, let me stop right now and write the check.

OK, it’s written. If you also want to write a check (for any amount, of course), you’ll make it out to Living Proof Ministries just like I did, but you absolutely must designate “Siesta Scholarship Fund” in the memo so they’ll know where to put it.

Mail it to:
Living Proof Ministries
12131 Malcomson Road
Houston, Texas 77070

You can also make a donation to the fund online by using this link below. When given the option in the online form, please designate it “In honor of The Siesta Scholarship Fund.”

I give you my word that these donations (whether by check or online by charge) will only be used for the expressed purpose of giving away materials. I also want you to know that we will always tell the recipients that they have received them as a gift from the LPM Siesta Blog Community.

With these donations, Living Proof will then begin appropriating materials for priority needs that hit the ministry. This is where I really need your understanding. This scholarship fund would not just be by Siestas for Siestas. It would be by Siestas for anyone at the discretion of our ministry based on the needs that we encounter. I fear that if we limited our donations only to Siestas, it could open the door to all manner of challenges (like how we’d choose between one and another) and, worse yet, it could skew our pure-hearted motives and purposes here on the blog. The purpose of our fellowship here needs to remain what it has been from the start: encouragement to walk faithfully and authentically with our Lord Jesus Christ. We have requests for materials and tickets constantly from people in need and, if you’d be willing to trust our discretion, I promise you we will seek the Lord’s direction. We will also make available a report of our ingoing and outgoing donations periodically so you can see for yourself how the money is being handled.

This is a great time for me to tell you that we work very hard at Living Proof Ministries to maintain the utmost financial accountability and, it you glance at our home page, you’ll see our “ECFA Member” seal (Evangelical Council of Financial Accountability). If you give that website a glance, you’ll know that we have to maintain the utmost standards (including an annual audit) to keep that coveted seal.

OK, here’s what I want to do today as a way to launch a spirit of giving in our blog community. In lieu of comments, if you know of a mission church or a small or struggling church that could really use a set of Bible study DVD’s, please post their name and mailing address as your response to this post. (Continental USA addresses please to keep shipping costs from becoming astronomical.) 48 hours after I run this post, we will do a drawing to give away 5 full DVD sets. These will be gifts from LPM and the cost will not be subtracted from our Siesta Scholarship Fund. We’ll then post the 5 winners and send the sets on their way in your honor. I will have a cute card prepared for all materials that go out in your honor and from the scholarships you make possible. I am so excited about this!

Now, listen here. We expect to have this blog and this scholarship fund for years to come SO if you can’t give a single dollar toward it right now, don’t you feel the least bit guilty. I don’t want a single person feeling under compulsion. God wants us to give cheerfully. Even with outright hilarity! So do not give a dime you are not free and thrilled to give. This is the time for those of us not suffering financially to take up the slack for those of us who are. We love all of you so much. Never feel condemned or pressured here.

I can’t wait to share an update with you! I’ll give it about a week and let you know what’s been given so far.

Lord, do Your thing! Edify Your Church and glorify Your great Name!

I would lie to nominate Urban Harvest Ministries located in the Bronx. They minister to the community by teaching the word and going door to door with the good news. This church has been such a blessing to me & my family and could really use the resources.

Their address is 505 Brook Avenue, Bronx, NY 10455.

    Thanks & God bless.

I would like to nominate Aaron Church of God in Portal, GA. This church is in a very rural area in southeast Georgia. Their congregation is between 50-100 but they are reaching approximately 80 young people every Wednesday night. This small church is bringing kids in by bus and feeding them. They are seeing kid's lives change!!! I am so amazed by their commitment to these kids and Christ. I have a special interest in this church because it is my grandparents (in their late 60s) who are the pastors and reaching out to these teenagers. I have done several of the Bible studies and my grandmother and I talk on the phone for hours (yes hours) about the stuff I am learning in bible study that I would absolutely be so honored and blessed for you to even consider this awesome church!!

There are so many individuals/churches on this list that I hesitate to add my name. My husband and I serve with Wycliffe Bible Translators and work in Alotau, Papua New Guinea. Our first term was very difficult overseas (adjusting, loneliness, overloaded work schedule, homeschooling, helping our 4 kids adjust, spiritual warfare attacking our marriage and home in ways we never imagined, malaria, and dengue fever! to name a few of the things we dealt with) However, during one of our lowest points, we began a Beth Moore Bible study (Stepping Up) and it was a true blessing (and a timely study) for me and the other women who serve with us in Alotau. We came home for furlough and a local woman who ministers to furloughing women invited us to an Inheritance bible study. Another timely word for those of us feeling war-ravaged and HUNGRY from the field. We take solid Bible teaching for granted in the US, for sure. Our furlough is ending this June and we will be headed back to serve again. I would love to go prepared to minister again to the women of our community. Please add my name to the list if possible: Stacie McIntosh c/o JAARS P.O. Box 248, Waxhaw, NC 28173 Thanks for the consideration. In Him!

      Stacie,
I don’t even know why I am scrolling through these comments, but I must say, yours stood out to me. <3

My husband and I moved to the Caribbean a few years ago (not as a missionary, but public health) and I was shocked at how hard the transition was for me. I lost a very close family member and her funeral was the night before we flew out. After arriving, I became very ill and dehydrated. This time in my life really stretched me. I felt it physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. I really grew in my relationship with God and in my marriage.

It really surprised us how long it took to find any close friendships while on Island, but I think God was really building our marriage and teaching us to lean on Him first and then each other. After several months, I happened to meet a gal and she mentioned that she had wanted to do a women's Bible Study, but no one in her college classes seemed interested (when she brought it up months ago). I was!!!! A small group of 4 of us met weekly and studied Beth Moore's Video/Book study of Daniel. It was incredible.

Thank you, Beth Moore for your work. Thank you Stacie for your work also. You are in my prayers. <3

I go to a very small church of approximately 60-75 people. No one in ministry in our church takes a paycheck, including our pastor. He has to work a full-time job outside of the church just to support his family. He and his wife moved here (Nebraska) from California many years ago because they felt God leading them here to start a church. After meeting in a local elementary school for many years, we now have our own building (rent). Our families are all very strapped financially, but God ALWAYS provides. We have a very small but very close group of women. Your ministry is very near and dear to us. However, given the size of our church and the size of our pocketbooks, we have never been able to afford one of your studies. If you are still donating DVDs, we would be ever so appreciative of this gift. We have so many women with very full schedules and are currently doing a study on “rest” by Women of Faith. This is a much-needed topic.

Thank you again for your ministry. You have no idea what an impact you have made on my life. My mother passed away 4 1/2 years ago, and my sister and I went to one of your conferences in Sioux Falls, SD the following year. It was such a great joy to spend our time together, with you and with the Lord, when we were still missing her so much. You touched on the topic of missing our moms and looking forward to being reunited with them again in heaven! What Joy! I cannot wait for that moment.

Much love and prayer for you and yours,

    Dear Beth,
Our church women recently did the study on Fruit of the Spirit, hearts were opened and tears flowed, connections were made and a great work began. We have approximately 60-100 members at CBC. Financially things have been quite challenging this year. God has supplied all our needs. We have had to cut back greatly on all areas except our mission giving which is the most important. Our young mothers so need The Beth Moore studies, we are unable to purchase them at this time, so have been working on contacting other churches that might lend us the material. We would love to do Breaking Free, but have not been able to borrow it. And would be more than willing to share it with other churches. Please consider our women for this wonderful study. The stronghold must be broken! Thank you for your dedication and obedience to the Lord. We will continue and have confidence He will provide in His way. Love!

My son-in-law is pastoring for the first time at this rural church. God is working and doing great things and he and my daughter are blessed to be a part of it. The congreation has embraced them and four of my blessed grand children. Being a farming community, there are a lot of financial needs. Coming from a large Baptist Church my daughter has been fortunate to have always been a part of Beth Bible Studies. She so wants to share some of these studies for the women at Hillgrove.
Thank you Beth for always hearing God so clearly and following His instructions.
Our church will host the simulcast in the fall. We can’t wait!!

Our ladies’ bible study group loves to do the Beth Moore studies. We are a small church with very limited means and we have to borrow the dvd series in order to view them. Thankfully we have an associational office that accomodates us as much as they can, but we feel bad asking them always to purchase them. I wish that you would consider setting up a library of dvd series to rent. Because of the size of our church even if we were able to purchase them after they are used then they would be set aside and not used again and that is a shame. We thank God for you and your ministry and for the annointing that God has on your life.

This is a wonderful idea! May God bless this fund and make the siesta cup overflow with donations. I am part of a new church plant. We are currently about 50 lovers of Jesus (including children) and it is so exciting to see God adding to our numbers weekly. We are currently meeting in peoples homes in a small group style of church. I have felt God place a direct call on my heart for the women in this community. Any resources would be wonderful. The Holy Spirit laid Joshua 1 on me and I feel very strongly that I am called to lead these women to inherit the land that the Lord has for them. God commands be strong and couragous. Actually, yes Terri! Haha You will see on the Blog homepage “What a Siesta?” and it says: “Isn’t “siesta” the Spanish word for nap? Yes! Then why are our LPM blog readers called siestas? One time Beth typed out the word “sistas,” referring to our blog readers, and her spell checker wanted her to change it to “siestas.” The name stuck! You can read about it here. If you read this blog, consider yourself a siesta! It’s just another word for sister.”

If materials are still available for donation we would loved to be allowed the opportunity to connect with one another in Gods word again.

The 1st book we are reading is by Bishop TD Jakes Woman Thou Art Loosed “Healing Past Hurts” (don’t have the book in my presence & this moment) & I am really enjoying it. I would love to know if yall can donate books, DVD’s, t-shirts, or journals???????? This ministry is a blessing for myself & my sista’s because we as woman have many emotional problems……we’ve been verbally, emotionally, & physically abused & also we have so many things going on meaning taking care of the kids, house, our jobs, bills, & etc. & I want this ministry to be a place once a month where we are with women that’s just like us & just for that hour we don’t have anybody saying MOMMY I Want!!!!! Or Honey is dinner ready? Or whatever else we hear 24/7, so we have a place where we can cry, laugh, or scream!!!!!!!! So I pray that God touch ya hearts & bless this ministry, & God’s willing one year my daughter or daughter’s or my sista’s from the bookclub can attend one of these God filled conferences. I pray that you all have a safe trip to & from your destination & the 20 scholarship’s be a true blessing to a woman of God or a babe in Christ. In Jesus name. Amen

I am in need of a time of refreshing. Please know that I am so thankful for the way God uses this woman to speak to my heart. It is like a cacaphony of miraculous when I dissolve into tears on my most tired days as I listne over and over and over again to the fruits of the spirit CDs. My kids must think the only radio station mommy knows about is FM Fruits of the Spirit! HA! But mommy is a weary and lately has found herself needing a rechare from the Lord. I want to attend a conference close to Alabama to hear Beth Moore speak. I have in the past been able to afford to travel to my native Memphis to hear her and we are close to Atlanta as well. This year I cannot afford to go to any conferences. When God gives you a budget…you don’t try to get Him to budge it. I would love to be so close that I can almost touch the hem of the garment one more time. I remember the place, my bethel spot. I have a baking ministry where i bake “cake boss” type cakes for adopted and foster children. God gave me this vision after we adopted a 13 year old daughter one year after being married! It was simply this- childhood is stolen away so easily these days and if a cake and some party favors make one moment memorable for that child, how much softer the heart stays until the harvest is white and ready to be picked. I serve Him because He serves me, and…because I love Him. Being the wife of a preacher who is at the moment in school with 3 children at home I wonder how people make it without the Lord. So, if possible could I please come to a confrence this year. I will sit outside the doors if I can just hear what the Holy Spirit wants to say to me. Thank you for your prayers.

Hi Beth and all the Siestas at Living Proof. I can’t even begin to express to you the thanks I have for your ministry. I listen to your Bible Studies on CD while multi-tasking (cleaning, driving, getting ready for work) – and numerous times has the Lord spoke straight through you to me. I’ve found myself falling on my knees in prayer with a dust-rag in my hand, or raising my hands in praise while driving (Jesus take the wheel!). God has never failed to use your words from His word to bring me through something. I was greatly touched while reading Gay’s Blog a few moments ago, and it immediately brought to mind a ministry that one of our Siestas in Christ started last year. The House that Mercy Built is a home for women to get their life back on track – those who are struggling with addiction of any kind, or who maybe hit rock bottom after incarceration. It is faith-based – leading women to recovery through God’s mercy and love. The house is non-profit, and was started with prayers, donations, sweat and tears by Roma Payne who was called by God to begin this ministry. The ladies are taught each day out of God’s word on how to break their chains of bondage. I fully believe that anything that Living Proof could donate would be of great help and guidance for these ladies. Thank you again for all do for God’s glory, and thank you for ministering to me. I would like to request some material. I stumbled upon Beth’s Eat, Pray, Love series yesterday. I wrote so quickly as Beth talked on the MP3 I was playing. I would love to have a hardcopy, even downloadable PDF of the workbook for this series. Worthy to ask for a donation? Not hardly, but I am so eager to learn more about this woman’s search. Casting Crowns has a song on their newest CD and it speaks about leaving it all behind and coming to the well. Today I am finding myself ready to hop on in my Father’s well. It never ceases to amaze me that when I rise early with quiet time with the Lord on my heart that satan does that thing that he does. Yet I am amazed that I keep on letting him cause me to change the whole direction of the morning. To say I just need a touch today will not get it. Today I need to be drenched in the Holy Spirit…even if it comes from a woman, mother, and evangelist like Beth Moore herself.

We’d be grateful for any donations to New Hope Church 675 Brookside Court Westbury, NY. We are just starting out and know we need to connect women to the Word and to each other. These studies really draw women closer to the Lord.

Hi I have done several of your Bible studies and went to a conference many years ago. I am single but had to stop working due to a disabiity. I would love to go to hear you speak, when you last spoke in Birmingham, I wanted more than anything to go and take my almost grown daughter. Would there be any help with obtaining tickets the next time you are in Birmingham, Alabama or anywhere near north alabama? Thank you so much. My daughter is a teen-ager now and she is so committed to the Lord, I would love to expose her to your teaching and I could use it as well. I know your were recently in Birmingham and might not be there in the near future but the next time you are, It would be so special if I could take here. I am not able to travel so it would just have to be the next time you are there. I have alwo prayed for years that God would give me the opportunity to meet you; every study I have ever done of yours has been so applicable to the circumstances of my life at the time. God speaks through you to me in such a personal way as I’ve gone through hard things in my life.
I have joked about this, but it’s so true. It took me a year and 3 different churches to findish your “Esther” study because it was during this time, I was fighting my health, trying to stay emplyed in a social services job and it was very hard for me to not be able to stay emplyed because I loved my job.

Donation of an older Beth Moore study- I also wanted to comment on this, I have one of Beth Moore’s older studies- “A Woman’s Heart, God’s Home”, (or is it Dwelling Place?) it’s on Video Tape rather than CD’s, but if there is a church or women’s ministry that could use it, I would be happy for them to have it; I do not have a VCR but if any church could used it, please let me know and if they would like, I would be happy to mail it to them if they are far away. Or if I could give it Living Proof for them to give it to someone in need, I would like to donate it to them. Please Let me know. It is in good shape.

    Chrissy Kelly says:

Dear Beth, My life has been so enriched and changed and blessed because of His words of Life you speak and have spoken into not only mine but thousands of others. Each time I have taken your studies (13 yrs now), I always wonder what you could possibly say that would speak into my life situations and bring healing, change, encouragement and push me closer to my GOD!! And EVERY single time you do it! Yes, I know that its Him in you who does it…but I thank you for your example of obedience and passion for the WORD and how you exemplify being a willing servant to be used by HIM!! I have listened to many preachers, teachers, studies etc…but have never felt more connected to God, than when I join in one of your studies. It always amazes me how clearly I hear God’s voice…especially when it comes from you! Often times, I ask God to speak to me…in such a way that I have no doubt that it comes from Him and for confirmations that no human being close to me would have a possibility of being biased in their wisdom. And every single time…He speaks to me through you! Thank you! You have encouraged me like no other….and you don’t even know me! Someday, we will meet and I look forward to that day!

I think perhaps what endears me most to you is your heart for missions and how you have been faithful to step on to the field to serve at various times! I love that God has placed that calling upon my life as a small girl and now some 40+ years later, He is releasing me and my husband into full time missions in Kenya, AFrica come this fall 2013!!! Its been a long time in coming, with many trials, struggles along the way…but God is Faithful! We are humbled that He would choose and has called us to “GO”.

One of the things that I will miss the most, is the bible study group i have attended these past 13 yrs. They faithful do your studies 1-2 x a year and that has been the highlights of my life, especially through the toughest seasons of my life. I can only imagine how many requests you receive for free materials and such to help bless and minister to so many sisters in the Lord!

My question is: Is there a way for me to access some of your materials while I am serving on the field so that the my sisters in the Lord whom I will be serving with (other missionary wives) will have the opportunity to grow and be encouraged? Even though your materials are priced reasonably and it provides a means for your ministry, I am wondering if there would be a way for us to access it for minimal costs in consideration of the fact that we live on a meager means and consider it a great joy to do just that so for the sake of the Gospel. I am so grateful for all God has provided ! Thank you again for being so real with us! You are a blessing! May God continue to bless you! Your sista in Christ and fellow missionary sojourner! Hi Chrissy! The best way for you to see about getting some materials would be to send an email through our correspondance department. That way, this question will be filtered to the right person. You can do that by visiting our website: http://www.lproof.org and clicking on “contact” at the bottom. I hope that helps! Blessings to you!

Beth, I would not be serving our Lord today in full time ministry had I not sat under your teaching. I served as a leader in your Sunday School class for seven years and listened to your teaching every week. It thrills my heart to see your materials reach those who could not otherwise afford them. As you know, today I’m the Founder of a ministry that helps to fund resources to empower women to serve at their potential. The ministry of Inspire Women is delighted to make a donation to your scholarship fund. I know the requests you get for assistance vary but please let me know if you ever need additional reinforcements to take care of a need. God bless you my teacher, colaborer and sister in Christ! I would like to nominate Seaside Vineyard Fellowship. We are a small missions based church who uses every penny to keep going. We do everything we can to make sure the children and youth of our church have the materials they need first, which is wonderful and needed, but leaves very little for the adults to purchase materials. Honestly, our womens group needs prayer, and motivation. If its not too late, if we could get even one of your studies to kick off our womens group I know it would be a great encouragement and motivation to the women of our church.

I am the director of an all volunteer ministry. I live in TN but we travel to South Dakota to the Pine Ridge and Cheyenne River Reservations. This is the poorest and one of the most challenged areas of our country. With over 80% unemployment and an average income of less than $7000 per year these precious women have no extra money for books and Christian literature. I travel twice a year there and stay from 2-6 weeks each time. We do Horse & Bible Camps for the children, a Recovery Program at the jail and Women’s Ministry. Please pray about helping us.

Our church does mission trips in and out of States. My husband has been a couple years to Montana for mission work. My daughter and I went to Puerto Rico last summer. Your post touched a special place in my heart. My husband and I are on the mission committee at our church. I would like to get some information on mission work for the area you are talking about.
      Thanks a bunch! God Bless!

Hmmm. I’m not sure if scholarships are still available but I would like to nominate my mom’s group. We are a group of stay-at-home mom’s who homeschool our kiddos and every summer we do a Bible study. Most of these families have made financial sacrifices in order for mom to “stay home”. This year we are going to do the Siesta study. We would only need about 10 workbooks.

I am in tears after reading this blog. My heart desire is to be able to attend the SSMT in 2016 but because of severe financial difficulties (generated by medical issues), this wish is only a dream. I know that Living Proof cannot assist all those who have financial needs, but for those who Living Proof will make this trip a reality, I thank you on their behalf. And thank you Mrs. Moore for being a servant of God to bring many into His kingdom to share in eternal life.

Hello, My name is Teandra and I’m requesting any resources regarding freedom from past abuse. I’ve had a past riddled with abuse since I was 5. I would like to continue to experience freedom, so that I may help others know the truth that sets me free. I live in Arizona and the churches here have waiting lists for classes to help women be set free, the need is huge. I’ve taken the class and led a class and would like to have more resources to help others. I’m a stay at home mom and homeschool 4 of our 7 children. Anything you could give would be a huge blessing.
