Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional): WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.

5. Quirk? Hmmm…well, when I use bar soap, I have to “wash” off the outer layer before I use it. Every. Time.
Hi!

3. With a group – moms & teachers + me (single). We are meeting at my house and potentially other’s homes as well this summer.
4. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been in a consistent place to participate in Bible Study. I just finished my first year teaching school and thought this summer study is great way to get back into fellowship with other women over the Word, so I invited some friends to study with me. We’re late getting started due to end of school schedules, but we’re going to persevere.
5. Oh my goodness–I lived on Sonic foot long hotdogs w/out the wienie in High School plus a vanilla milkshake. This year is my 20th year since graduating, can’t eat like that anymore on a regular basis, but isn’t that such a good way to have a hot dog! I will have to try it out at JCI! The video makes me want a JCI coney and tots! Another quirk, I separate my silverware when loading the dishwasher. OCD alert!! 🙂
I also attend Bayou City, so it is fun to see references to sermons I’ve heard as well in the homework of the book!

4)I am excited to take this study with you because I have not been able to attend the ones at my church lately due to schedule conflicts with online classes I have been taking.
5)Quirks, hmmm. Maybe that I’m obsessed with God, Fitness & Nutrition.

4) I learn so much more in disciplined Bible study.
5) My quirk is that I am a numbers person (bookkeeper) who micromanages and wants every blank filled in with the correct answer. I am trying to loosen up, but I don’t see this happening this late in my life. 😉

I am doing this alone.
I just moved and my new home church doesn’t have a women’s study in the summer and this is usually the only time I can take time for myself.
One of my quirks is, whenever I’m alone and upset, I talk to myself as though I’m in front of the person I’m mad at. Usually when I’m in the car alone! Thank God I can put my head set in and make it look like I’m on the phone!

I need this because we have moved for my husband’s job after living in the same town for over ten years. I miss my community of friends.
My quirk…. I really enjoy showing off my bargains at thrift stores and garage sales! And for some reason I remember how much I paid! And it always falls out of my mouth before I can stop the info, rather than just say “thank you”! 😉

Looking forward to some summer refreshment 🙂
I am going with just me and Jesus for this study. I really need a restart for myself this summer. I am a homeschooling Mama and need a fresh renewal from the Lord. My attitude has not reflected Him in general and I need to get a double portion of just Him. One of my quirks is that I love the feel of satin on the edge of blankets under my fingernails. I will even catch myself feeling the edge of a plastic grocery bag under my fingernails. I am a very tactile person(obviously).
Hi! I’m doing this study this summer with a group of friends. We are all military wives and we’ve been meeting weekly for a Bible Study for a few years. We wanted to try this one this summer 🙂 We get together in one of our homes or at a park, depending on the weather. We’re starting a week late, but that’s how we roll!
Oh, and I live in Warner Robins, GA

4. I feel like I need to regain my focus. I just watched the first video and it seemed like so much of it addressed just where I am right now in my life. This statement, “A journey gone awry could lead to the exact frame of mind God is looking to use,” makes me think that it is the right decision for me to do THIS study THIS summer.
5. I alphabetize my spices. Of course, I think it makes perfect sense!

4.Just love Beth. I have done several of her studies and did Gideon with her last summer.
5. I doodle flowers on everything or hum if I am working with my hands. My friend use to say “I know you are creating something pretty when I hear you humming.”

I’m running solo for this study.
My small group will continue to meet this summer, but between work, conferences, and vacation I will not be able to attend on a regular basis. Soooo, participating in the siesta will fit nicely with my crazy summer schedule!

Small Group – Meeting online with the Women’s Bible Cafe
I’m excited about studying the books of 1 & 2 Thessalonians and I’ve really enjoyed the other studies I’ve done with Beth Moore
Quirk? Too many to name… I’ll need to think of the best one before our meeting time.
I am from Norman Wells, Northwest Territories, Canada. I am doing the study via email with the mother-in-law in New Brunswick. Living in a remote community of 800 people with no church family, I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to study with you ladies this summer!

4. I love to make time for bible study because it keeps me centered on a more positive, Christ centerd outlook. I love the way it makes me excited about my own faith.
5. I’m a computer geek. I love trying the paperless method, but feel I must fill in all the blanks. I’m so glad to find that I can add notes to the electronic version and fill in all the blanks online.
I am Taylor a college student from Plymouth, Minnesota home for the summer to do this bible study with my two sisters, and my mom. This is my first Beth Moore study and I am really excited! This summer I just feel led to be in the Word as much as possible. My quirk would probably be that I cannot leave my house unless my toes are painted pink!

4) I’m a pastor’s wife, in need of a deeper dive into Gods Word and currently in a very lonely season.
5) I absolutely love survivor stories. Shows like “I shouldn’t be alive,” etc. it drives my husband nuts, but I can’t get enough.
Hi fellow New Jerseyan. I’m in Washington NJ. Beth’s study should do the trick with digging deep into His Word. Hope it refreshes and uplifts you. God Bless and just prayed for you!
I am going solo in Birmingham, AL.
I am doing this study to know God more.

3. Small group, a few of the ladies from my regular Bible study group that meets during the school year
4. To stay in the Word!! As a mama of two little ones, I need the structure of a Bible study to keep me accountable. Plus, I love learning.
5. I like a clutter free house. I am the decluttering queen! Having three other members in my family, they help by leaving stuff all over the house for me to declutter 😉

4. I think the last Beth Moore study I took was on the Psalms of Ascent, so it has been a few years! My life has been changed by the cumulative effect of these studies and I am seeking to hear from The Lord and to know Him better.
5. I often have to drive past my house after leaving to make sure I put the garage door down–OCD tendencies I think!
1. Angie
2. Oelwein, Iowa
3. I am doing this study with a friend from church.
4. Before I moved back home to Iowa I lived in North Carolina and Nebraska, where I was introduced to Beth Moore studies and events. I have really missed that, and just felt like I needed a spiritual pick-me-up this summer. So, God laid it on my heart to ask a friend from church who has never done a Beth Moore study before. We are very excited about this opportunity.
5. A quirk of mine is that I think it’s hilariously funny when people fall, but not like older people. It’s terrible, but true.

4. Because I just flat out love how Beth’s bible studies keep me close to the word like the Starbucks in my hand each day and the prayers on my heart! Our small group broke for the summer but I needed these studies as I step out and start theatre ministries with the kids of our church!
5. Quirk 1: I love tap dancing! Quirk 2: I believe when I get to heaven The Lord will tell me I have a free drink at Starbucks and hit my 12 stars for the rest of eternity!

While patiently waiting, I’m in need of encouragement and wisdom that digging into God’s Word supplies. I teach 4th grade and what better way to spend my summer than learning about Jesus and His purpose for me.

2. Marana, AZ
3. Going solo! That’s OK! 🙂
4. I am especially interested in participating in a bible study this summer because…. I have taken a leave from work. I am very grateful for the opportunity to take this time. I want to use this time wisely. I am working on becoming healthy in all aspects of my life. I certainly realize that making God, and my relationship with Him, my first priority is essential.
I have never done one of your bible studies and I have only done a few in my lifetime. (Maybe 2) I have been a Christian for 22 years and love JESUS with ALL of my heart. The older I get, the more I realize that we cannot count on material possesions nor any of the people in our lives.
My oldest son, who I have always been incredibly close to, has recently married. It has been a challenge for me. I recognize that I placed a lot of my time, energy, love and attention on he and my youngest son. I believe God is trying to teach me that I need to put more of these on HIM! I am a Mommy’s MOMMY and LOVE my children with all of my heart.
5. A quirk…ummmmm……When I eat my meals, I eat one item at a time. I don’t ever eat more than one item at the same time. ‘)

5. I have random hiccups…like just one or two hiccups every once in a while…happens everyday of my life.
I’m going solo here in Alberta,Canada. I’ll be facilitating this study in September but loved the idea of a summer pre-view for myself. The set schedule and structure helps to keep me in the Word for which I am thankful.

4. Love summer Siesta Bible study! – keeps me in the word! Spending time with Jesus is what keeps me sane!
5. Yesterday I wasn’t feeling great and my husband was going to make me some peanut butter crackers. I told him to make sure he put the salted part of the cracker on the outside (not against the peanut butter). We’ve been together almost 15 years, but he didn’t know this quirk yet. He laughed and thought that was just crazy – but of course made them that way for me 🙂
