Siesta Summer Bible Study 2014: Launch and Registration!

Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy.  On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!

Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:

Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.

Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)

1. Your NAME.

2. Your CITY.

3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.

4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!

5. BONUS question (optional):  WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!

If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.

I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:

 Week 1 Memory Verse:

1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.

Week 2 Memory Verse:

1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions

Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.

I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.

    Answer to question 4:

Right now, in this season, I feel very alone in my journey. I found this bible study and the same day in scripture, this verse jumped off the page Ezekiel 2:1 “Son of man, stand up on your feet and I will speak with you.” I ordered the bible study—I’m standing Lord!

    3. We are a group of two – my 13-year-old daughter and myself.
    4. This is my daughter’s first Bible study. So exciting! I have participated and led many Bible studies, but it’s been about five years since my last one. Long story. I’m believing God will breathe something new in my heart through this study.
    5. My quirk: I’m way obsessed with chocolate milk – has to be the powdered kind that I can scoop and eat as much as I drink.

    4. I am involved with an in-depth study throughout the year that I love. This will give me the accountability to remain in the Word, yet at a different pace/style. Perfect for Summer!
    5. I have to sleep with a fleece blanket–even in Florida summer. I will have the ac on really low, the fan on just so that I can sleep with my fleece blanket.

    Carol and Kristen says:

    Hi
I’m from Ontario, Canada. Kristen is from Florida, United States. We are doing this together!!!!
The distance will not mean anything, as we are learning and growing in and through Him.
We both love the idea of being in His Word during the summer….

    Andrea Bates says:

Andrea Bates from Houston, TX. I’m meeting with my kindred spirit, college roommate, and best friend for the last 25 years who lives in Arlington, TX. We’re going to discuss the questions over Skype with coffee in hand. I’m in a transition time and seeking to discover God’s plans for me over the coming years. What better place to seek His face than in a Beth Moore Bible study? I have lots of quirks…how about LOVING having my teenagers home all day for the summer!!

I feel the tugging of the Holy Spirit, I just want to know what is it God has for me at this time of my journey. I know of no better way to hear from Him, besides my quiet time, is being engaged in a biblestudy. Word of God Speak!

Ladies be blessed! Thank you Beth!

I really want to grow as a Christian and I thought this
was a great way to stay focused and learn more about the
Lord. I really love the fellowship!

    Crystal says:

    1. Crystal

    3. I’m doing this with my accountability partner. We meet every Monday at 6am at Waffle House to talk about how our week has been, how our relationship with The Lord has been the past week, to encourage each other and ask how we can pray for each other in the coming week. We both have toddlers and this is THE ONLY time we can get together without the babies to focus on us and The Lord. I’m very thankful at that early hour for coffee!
    4. My baby just turned two years old. I have been a stay at home mom and have had a hard time doing any type of a Bible study the last two years. I’m happy when I can get in a 10 minute devotional each morning locked in my bathroom before my husband leaves for work (wish I were, but I’m so not even kidding). I’m doing this study this summer to bring me back into a closer relationship with The Lord. I have done a couple of your studies years ago and was worried I wouldn’t be able to handle the amount of homework that was in those studies. I’m overjoyed to hear there is a little less homework in this one. Instead of starting out already feeling defeated, thinking I wouldn’t be able to keep up, I’m excited and encouraged. I really think I can do this!
    5. Oh the quirk…there are so many…but the first one that comes to mind is also food related. I have a habit of telling almost anyone I’m talking to a list of what I’ve eaten that day. I somehow manage to work it into the conversation without even realizing it. It’s not like I just walk up to them and say, “Let me tell you what I’ve had to eat today.” It’s the craziest thing.

    3. Solo
    4. I haven’t been able to join a group for a while- -first because of nursing school, and then my work schedule. I’m very excited to find this opportunity to study God’s word and draw closer to Him. I think I would have gotten “burnt out” in nursing my first year without finding fresh strength in Him each day.
    5. This is the only thing my husband will admit drives him crazy: I flick the crumbs off my cookie, much like a smoker flicks ashes off a cigarette (though I’ve never smoked), before each bite.

  24. 3874
    Sherree says:

    1. Sherree
    2. Mansfield TX
    3. Small group of 3
    4. I have been in a very dry season and want/need to hear The Lord call my name
    5. I have a system for everything, from the order I do things when I get ready for work in the mornings to how I clean my house. OCD a little?

  25. 3875
    Vanessa Brown says:

Angi Jones, Vanessa Brown, Kerry Sellers, Jennifer Chesnut, Fran Fowler, Myra Fincher, Pat Truitt, Laurie Carlyle
    Bremen, Bowdon, Carrollton, Georgia
Small group: We have started with 8 for the first night but will have 16 starting next week. Bremen First Baptist Church
Want to be in His Word through Bible Study, Accountability, being with other Godly women, Love Bible Study, Want to learn more of His Word.
Bonus: With this group of women we seem to have many things in common. We refold laundry if someone else does it, we reload the dishwasher no matter who loads it first, we like organization: dresser drawer contents meticulously aligned, all money facing the same way, and are a perfectionist. Then we have a couple of quirks concerning drinks: Love large Chick-Fil-A styrofoam cups with ice water, want a lot of ice with my drinks (water, Diet Mt. Dew, Unsweetened Tea. And then feet become involved: My feet cannot be hot! Want my socks on before I get in bed then I take them off before I go to sleep. And last but not least, stepping on crunchy leaves. We think we will have even more fun quirks next week.

    4. I was laid off from my job almost three weeks ago. Thankfully, it was not a shock. I believe God is going to radically change the trajectory of my life now, and I am looking forward to change. I need Bible study to help me hear CLEARLY from God as to what my next moves and opportunities should be!
    5. I am fairly obsessed with “What Not to Wear” and Stacy London and her book. I love, love, love the message they give that style is a tool we can use to change the message we are sending the world about ourselves, and change the way we feel about ourselves. As daughters of the King, we should dress the part. It is incredibly exciting and empowering!

Quirk: If I am inside, I always wear socks (yes, even if the floors have just been cleaned)
Quirk: As soon as I get home, I put on my ‘comfy’ clothes. So, if you show up at my house (and probably even if I know you are coming)I will be wearing something that may not match, may contain a hole or paint stains and WILL have a stretchy waist.

I know that by doing these studies, it will help keep me in the habit and discipline of reading and studying scripture.
    5. My quirk is that I like/want clothes folded a “certain” way before they’re put away.

    Terri M says:

    Terri M.

My daughters and I will be meeting in our home and will be skyping w/ my other daughter in Costa Rica doing the study together!!!
The reason we are doing this study is to bond together…in August I will have all 3 daughters in college and I hope this study launches us all into a new season of life walking with our friend Jesus!!
One of MANY quirks…I MUST eat dessert with a fork and if the dessert is fantastically yummy I hold up my hand and tell people “don’t talk to me” until I’m done so I can savor every bite!!! For some reason I get laughed at every time…I am very serious about yummy desserts ;0)

    Cindy says:

Hi! My name is Cindy, I live in Wimberley, Texas, and I am flying solo for this study. Doing the study this summer is so very needed as we are in a period of life that we knew was probably coming someday, but not yet. Our daughter for married in March and 2 weeks to the day my mother in law came to live with us. We still have one precious daughter living at home and starting her senior year. MIL has beginnings of Alzheimer’s and doesn’t want to leave her home. Knowing that this is God’s plan for our life and struggling with the reality and frustration mean lots of prayers in and around us. I am always filled by a Beth study and am looking forward to that again this summer.

  44. 3894

    4. This summer holds many important decisions, and I want to make the right choices for my journey and for the people I love. I am looking for guidance and hope for the new direction on my horizon.
    5. My quirk…I still tie straw wrappers in a knot and pull on the ends to see if they come undone. In junior high we said that if the paper broke in the middle of the knot and it came undone it meant the person you were thinking of was thinking of you, too. I don’t believe that for one second, but I still tie the knot out of habit!
