Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional): WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.

Group; about 30 persons
Meeting at Trinity UMC Sunday School room
I just finished an in-depth study of Hebrews and feel a “let down” similar to after a test you’ve been cramming for; I need to stay in the word and stay on fire.
A quirk is that I rush into things which explains why I rushed and posted before watching the video. 🙂
Lisa from Cambridge, MN
Group- The Fab Five, we are alternating homes to meet in
I grow more in an intensive Bible study where I have “homework” to do and deadlines to meet to get it done. Looking to dig into God’s word this summer and learn great things!
Quirk- I live in Minnesota and it was a LONG winter, yet my favorite thing is SUMMER. If it wasn’t for all the lovely family and friends here I would totally MOVE SOUTH!
Beaverton, OR
small group-meet in house
to have some structure to keep my focused and to meet w/other women thru the summer
quirk: have to use both sides of paper before recycling, so if just one side used, will cut up and make notes for phone call messages.

3. Small group that grew to 30+ women of all ages. We are meeting at Denton Bible Church (in a larger room next week)
4. I love, love doing bible study with a curriculum. I attend a Tues. night bible study and we have worked through a variety of studies. We do not meet for the summer. Since I teach school and I am off for the summer, I asked my Tues. night bible leader about doing “Beth Moore’s new study” and she said, “Go for it!” So, here I am with a small band of women. We are a true “remix”!
5. I started drinking coffee at age 52 to enhance my quite time. It has truly stimulated my mornings with the LORD. 🙂

4. I need this study because I moved to Texas a few months ago, and have not yet chosen a church home. I have always been deeply involved in teaching and music ministries , so being absent from a community has been strange and sad for me. The youngest of my children just graduated from college, so I am also now an official empty nester. God has something new in mind for me, but it is still a mystery to me.
5. My daughter sometime suggests I should “think smaller thoughts….. : )

I am in a Precepts study throughout the school year. In years past I have done many Beth Moore studies and love the teaching and homework. I miss being in an accountability study over the summer months. I need Gods Word fresh every day of the year to keep my soul well.
Quirk: I could give up an entire ice cream cone, except for the last bite. I enjoy that last bite of cone the best.
I’m confused. This is my first real Bible study. I received my workbook two nights ago and am far behind the schedule. However, I don’t understand how to begin. I’ve scanned the workbook but don’t know how to start. There are no particular’s about which chapters to read with what lesson. Do you just read all the Bible text each day? I know this may sound silly to some but how do I do approach this study? Any advice is welcome as I want to catch up and stay on track with the group study.
Hi Amanda, if you click on the link in the very first paragraph it takes you to our intro post, and there Beth explains how it works. Also, the video at the top of the video also explains all of this. You simply start with Week 1, Day 1 in the workbook and go in order from there. Once you get started, Beth leads you through the book. There are 5 days of homework each week! The “Listening Guide” is there if you decide to logon to LifeWay, the link at the bottom of the post, and purchase her teaching videos for each session. But, start with Week 1, Day 1 and you should be good to go from there. We are SO excited you are joining us! Don’t worry about being behind schedule, do it at your own pace. I hope that helps!
Thank you. I got so excited when I received my workbook I skimmed quickly and didn’t read closely. I guess you could say that’s another quirk of mine…only halfway reading instructions when I get excited about something!
Yay Amanda! Welcome!!
Thank you. 🙂

Solo (although my husband listens to the videos with me each week)
I began a new teaching job last year and mentoring a very close friend.
The school year was wonderful but stressful. The mentoring of my friend through Breaking Free until lesson 7 and then she felt she no longer needed to do this study). It wiped out our friendship since she wasn’t ready to face her past truly. I felt like a failure.
This Bible study is already refreshing my soul and challenging me to connect with Godly women as I look outward to serve. This study is perfect for me this summer. Bless you Beth.
I just ordered my book so catching up. I am in North Liberty,IA – I have been craving some good ol scripture work! I will be going solo unless I find some online gals to join with! I remember numbers for a LONG time (is that quirky?)

4. I am dry, hungry, and thirsty for The Word. So many reasons are telling me not to begin, so I’m gonna spite myself and do it. That’s a reason and a quirk!
5. I straighten dissheveled items on the grocery shelf while I’m shopping. I am not the most tidy person, as my husband will attest, but that REALLY BUGS ME. Then I laugh at how dumb that is and move on. Until I see another product strewn about. PS-easily distracted. PPS-may not finish this study because of it.

4. I finished the Celebrate Recovery 12 step class a few weeks ago and needed to replace my time that I was working on that class with something beneficial for my spiritual growth. There are a few of us from that class that migrated toward this together and it’s wonderful to meet other women in the church that I might not have met otherwise.

I am doing this Bible study with a couple of girlfriends. We I am so excited because I love being in God’s word.
One of my quirks is that I hate my floors at home to be a mess. Hard to keep clean since I have 3 kids under age 7 and two very active dogs. There has been a lot of prayer and tears over this quirk in my life 🙂 So excited to hear God’s word fresh over me!!

4. I have been doing Bible Study with my church and we just finished one. There is nothing for the summer and I was looking for something so I can stay in God’s word. God led me to this.
5. One of my quirks is that I like my hair to be combed and look in place. I was reminded of this yesterday. I went to my co-workers and very good friends work space late in the afternoon. It had been a very long day and I had not had a chance to say Hi. She knows my quirk so she said to me “You need to comb your hair” I started laughing then thought I do? and immediately started to comb it with my fingers. Now she is a good friend! BTW when I got to my desk I took my brush out of my purse and combed it right…lol

4. This has been a rough season with many transitions, including expecting my 4th in early August, and there is nothing like staying rooted in the Word in times such as these. For through Beth I trust that God is continuing to deliver on His promise that I have been clinging to from Isaiah 41:10, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you! Don’t be frightened, for I am your God! I strengthen you—yes, I help you—yes, I uphold you with my saving right hand!”
