Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional): WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.
I love studying God’s word. Beth always provides a detailed relevant study. It is as if God is speaking to me personally!

Tough season in my now 50 yr old life. Last kid leaving home to finish college. Husband battling health issues. Church uncertainty. The WORD is constant in this season of change.

Hi!
I’m Stacie
Waynesboro, Pa
I am meeting with 3 friends who also happen to be family members. We are starting in our homes, but who knows where God may lead us in this journey!
Each of us were prompted separately by the Holy Spirit to do the study. One of us made mention about participating in COD, and when we each found out the others were interested we prayed about gathering together ..and here we are! 🙂
My quirk: When I each potato chips I like to eat them by size. I start with the small ones first and keep eating them by size until I finish with the largest chips last.
Me too!! 🙂

4. I am almost always in a Bible study, a Beth Moore study if available! I have done the Siesta Summer Study for the past few years, and really was excited to see that we are doing Children of the Day! I need a Bible Study…in all honesty, I am not very focused on my own.
5. Quirk? I do not like to talk on the telephone! Texting was surely made with me in mind!
I am Trudy in Roanoke, VA.
I am one of two facilitators for the bible study at our church. We have about 25 ladies in each of our groups meeting on different nights.
I am blessed to be able to help our church provide an organized bible study ministry – it helps me stay focused on what should be MOST important in my life!!
When I don’t hear all of what someone says, I make up whatever I “thought” they said and repeat THAT back to them.

One of my quirks is I hate to have my feet covered. I hate shoes and socks. If I could wear sandals all year I would.

I will be doing this study in a small group some in person and some via video chat 🙂
I really need to stay in the word during the summer…I find we some times make excuses during summer time but the truth is I need the accountability of a study like this to keep me grounded.
I am kind of a coffee snob, I use to woke at starbucks when I was in college….so I can taste when coffee and their drinks are not made right. It sometimes annoys me that I can just have folgers or insta coffee. Have to have freshly ground coffee! YUMMMMMM!!

3. Small group of 5 via Skype. Our group started 13 years ago with “Living Beyond Yourself” and continued with other studies until we all eventually moved away from the church that crossed our paths. The experience wove us tightly together…even though we are now spread across three states (TX, TN, OK) we still gather yearly and each time it is as comfortable as if we’ve never been apart. We are SO excited to be in a study again as a group. We just wrapped up our first meeting and we’re wondering why in the world we haven’t been communicating like this before!
4. We need to support each other right now like we’ve never needed it before. Some are facing challenges that seem insurmountable, but we know that God will pull us through together and we’re praying for a miracle.

been too long since my last LPM study!
Lori Millsap, Winterville, NC. I’m facilitating a group at my church on Thursday mornings beginning tomorrow (June 12) and expect as many as 40 women to join me for the summer. We are meeting weekly June 12-August 14 (skipping July 3 for holidays). My quirk? I factor every integer I see, including all ages. Since my birthday is coming up on July 1, and I’ll be 48, my first thought was, “No longer prime!” Plus, for the next five years, I won’t be “in my prime”…48, 49, 50, 51, and 52 are all composite numbers! I can’t wait to see what God does with me while I’m “no longer in my prime.” GRIN!

Small group, meeting in an upstairs room of our church, affectionately called “the couch room”, furnished liked a living room. The room is home to a co-ed 30something life group on Sunday mornings, high school girls discipleship on Sunday nights, Ladies Bible study on Wednesday nights and Mom’s prayer/study/fellowship group one morning a week. We are meeting on Wednesday nights.
We just finished a study entitled “She’s Got Issues”, and some ladies were asking for another study. I have done 3 Siesta Summer Bible studies. I just happened to log on the blog on June 3 and saw Beth’s post. I volunteered to facilitate and the study, and am very excited about it.

While I love summer, I feel that I kinda have a
tendency to “take a break” spiritually and want to
have this structure in my life. I am also in a new
season in life with college age (and beyond) children
and two of their friends living here for the summer.
While this is going well, I feel kind of overwhelmed
and pulled in a few different directions. Looking
forward to starting each day with The Lord and this
study.

I have been facilitating summer Bible study since y’all have had it (7 years?). I love how God teaches me something NEW every year and how He assembles a unique group each and every summer.
I can’t stand to have lights on in the house when a room is not in use.
I am taking this with a group of about 30 or so. We break into 2 smaller groups for discussion. I will be missing 2 or 3 of the group sessions so I’m glad for another forum for at least those sessions.
