Oh praise His Holy Name!
What a joy to experience His faithful working in me through the Scriptures that He directed me to memorize! I asked Him to lead me to the one I needed to put into my heart each week, and WOW did He ever! As I would pray each one back to Him throughout the year, tears would come, as I reflected on what was happening in my life with each specific verse. He desires so much to work in the details of our lives! This exercise of Scripture memory was just another way to experience this truth, yet much more powerful because He was giving me a part of Himself at the very time that I needed Him!! He is Truth, He is Life!
All glory and honor and praise be to our God!

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
I was able to recall scripture on moments when I needed them most and share them with others. I am encouraged by the support my friends and family have given me.

Love has been perfected among us in this; that we may have boldness in the day if judgement, because as He is, so are we in this world. NKJV
Each and every verse is chosen knowing it is one The Lord wants me to hide in my heart and have ready at all times. The delight is watching God use His Word in me as I give it away and He always gives me moments when it is a perfect match. How wonderful that it is a verse He chose just for me, yet in the power of this verse matching my need, He also brings me into contact with others where it is a direct match to their need as well. I love that! Happy Dance and Hallelujah Chorus!
So looking forward to the celebration with my daughter and best friend! Have a Blessed Christmas!

Thank u Beth for leading and encouraging me in this. It has been a hard year and I was not as diligent about memorizing as last time. It was still a huge blessing to me to know I always had a scripture to go to, even if it wasn’t totally memorized. Jesus used those scriptures to speak truth into my mind when I was wanting to fall into fear and anger. Just had a newborn and my 5 yr old had major surgery this year. God was faithful to always give me a scripture to speak to my achin heart this year!!

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”1 John 1:9 NIV
Hi fella siestas!
Just have to say that I had dropped the ball on my commitment to memorize the verses. It weighed heavily on my conscience and then our very own siesta mama, with her ‘get-er-done’ post (I can’t remember the title of the post), but it was about completing things. Well, that nudged me into getting caught up on the Bible verse memory work for 2013! Since I’ve taken up lots of space, I’m just going to reference the verses I’ve memorized since then. I thank you so much for the encouragement to complete what I had started!
Joshua 1:9, Isaiah 40:29, Isaiah 40:30, Isaiah 40:31, Isaiah 41:10, Micah 6:8, Habakkuk 3:19, and Luke 24:27.
Merry Christmas to all!

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-30 ESV
I have a witness about God working through me just to do these verses! I set out to memorize Romans 8 this year, because it is such a great chapter full of truths that are foundational to our faith. From the beginning I knew that it was an ambitious goal for me and sought God’s help in attaining it. But about halfway through, I decided that I had been foolish to bite off such a chunk – and that there was no way that I could do it. I was toying with the idea of giving it up – or maybe memorize half this year and half next year. But I just kept plugging away and kept praying. And God has made these verses stick in my mind. I was shocked the other day when I sat down to type out the verses (that is one thing I do to help memorize) – and I got all the way through with only a few errors. But it is totally God – because I couldn’t do it on my own.
Isn’t He so good!

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. – John 16:33 (ESV)
I centered my verse selection around supporting my One Word for the year, which was Believing (hmmm…do you think I may have completed your Bible study, “Believing God,” recently?). Not only did this help support, feed and grow my faith and active participle believing – it saved me from complete desolation when my son died in a motorcycle accident in July. I do not know how I would still have the sanity to write this post if I didn’t have God’s Word alive and active in me. There is a huge difference between reading His Word and living and breathing His Word. Thank you, Beth, for understanding we gals needed encouragement to make and keep this commitment to writing God’s Word on our hearts! You have been used by God mightily to touch and remodel my life, through your studies and through your life example. Thank you for sharing your heart and love. I love you back!

I am committed to memorizing the rest of this chapter by the end of Jan 14! But for today:

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
For the Mighty One has done great things for me—
holy is His name. (Luke 1:49 NIV)
You never know on January 1 what the year holds in store for you — but God does. He knew that this year He would call home my precious Mother and also my wonderful father-in-law. But because of this journey, He gave me the verses I would need to cling to during those tough times, and He has done great things for me.
Colleen, Glen Ellyn, IL
And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as one of their scribes.

Memorizing a whole chapter is very doable! This year I memorized Matthew 7, spending the year with Jesus and the Sermon on the Mount.

Truly, despite distressing events this year, I have been able to be confident in the Lord! Verses I have memorized got me through many nights of sleeplessness and also days of tears. Only God knew how much I would need a plan of scripture memorization this year. Praise Him!

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!
Thank you for providing this opportunity. To be completely honest, while I did not miss putting a verse up all year, and did have an app where I selected them and did some practicing, I don’t feel I truly participated. There’s a few verses I probably memorized but it’s mostly a list of verses this year. I won’t be able to attend the event but have nice memories of the one two years ago.
That said, I will likely continue some type of memorizing habit in 2014, maybe more like one verse a month or at a pace where it is sinking in before I move to the next one. I still need to move toward the exercise being a planting of the Word in my heart, not just a “task” mindset.
Merry Christmas to all!
