DEAR SIESTAS! THE MERE THOUGHT OF YOU IS MAKING ME GO ALL-CAPSY.

It has been FOREVER and then some but I have been thinking about you. I know I haven’t been in this here blog-space much recently but I can assure you that I’m still at LPM. My days are full since I’m working and going to school part-time. AGAIN. Yes, again. Somehow even when I vow to walk away for good, I end up right back in the classroom in some capacity. This time around I’m working slowly on a M.A. in Biblical Languages at Houston Baptist University. When I’m not researching something for a project at LPM, I’m taking a Greek class in the Septuagint and a Hebrew readings class in the Joseph narrative. Oh, and how could I forget to mention Winston Jeffrey Fitzpatrick?! A little over a year ago Colin brought home a baby rottweiler and our life has never been the same since (even when I desperately want it to be!). Winnie is SO, SO bad but we love him madly.

Here is W posing in my dining room. Or demanding a filet mignon cooked over medium, I’m not really sure.

Here he is again furious about having to wear his birthday hat:

But really, enough about us.

I want to talk about YOU and a fall giveaway we are doing because we love you and appreciate you.

Now, I should mention at this point that if you are one of those people who is SO OVER all the talk about pumpkin-flavored anything, then you will want to run for your life.

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE.

Do I have a faithful fall remnant?

This weekend we had our first legit “cold-front” here in Houston. It was even down in the forties one night. Glory be! The crisp cold air in my lungs got to me in the best way possible and, of all things, I wanted to cook. There’s just something about fall that always brings me back to the kitchen. Nothing better than listening to a little Norah Jones or The Civil Wars with the windows cracked open, cool breeze dancing through the house, while a chili or stew simmers on the stove. I thought just maybe fall might do the same for some of you so the grand prize winner will get a redΒ Le Creuset signature round dutch oven (red not orange like the one on the box).

I love it passionately and do not want to let it go. I even enjoy posing with the beloved dutch oven:

The second prize to be claimed is a $100 gift card to Pottery Barn because, let’s be honest, Pottery Barn during the fall season is heaven on earth:

Gift number 3 includes an amazing decorative pillow, fall flower arrangement, and Hill Country Home candle.

Gift number 4 includes a fun little clutch from Anthro, a scarf, several pairs of boot socks, and some gorgeous MAC makeup in fallish colors.

Here is Lindsee modeling the scarf. Love her and she can work a scarf better than anyone I know:

This MAC stuff is tough to photograph but fantastic (includes three eye shadow kits and two lipsticks in shades of Russian Red and Viva Glam III).

Gift number 5 has a bunch of fun stuff: Cook’s Illustrated Fall Entertaining magazine, kitchen towels, mulling spices, Hill Country Home candle (again this is one of my faves!), autumn cupcake decorating set, beautiful engraved silver dish, Trader Joe’s Pumpkin bread mix, and more.

Gift number 6 comes with a fun autumn welcome mat, potpourri, decorative kitchen towel, and my favorite ever mulled apple cider candle. DIVINE.

Here is Mom sorting out all the gifts. Isn’t she cute?

So dear friend, for a chance to win one of the six prizes, please leave a comment with your first and last name and tell us something you love about fall.

We love you so much,

Melissa

Fall to me is all things home. Something about it brings back sweet memories of my parents and sweet memories of when my twenty something year old boys were little and didn’t live eleventy billion miles away. Plus as the time changes, I can get away with putting my flannel pajamas on as soon as I walk in the door from work! Debbie Smith

I absolutely love the fall trees and all the gorgeous colors….growing up in the Northwest (Washington State)where trees are bountiful, and living in southern California for over 30 years I have to go on a hunt to find fall trees. Alas, there is a street nearby with a row of autumn trees in all their glory…amazingly beautiful!! blessings, Pam in San Diego

Hi! I submitted my comments at 1:39 p.m. on 11/1, but it didn’t show up. Please forgive me if you can find it somewhere!

Leaves — I love the glorious colors of leaves on the trees, and then the noisy crunch and distinctive smell of faded leaves on the ground. God provides us with a beautiful playground all year around!

I love the change in the weather, sometimes we are afraid of change but in my 51 years on this earth, I am thankful for “changes in my seasons” because that is when I see God’s hand and his heart in my life. Love all of you to the moon and back.

I love Fall because it reminds me of the richness of my life. Warm, beautiful colors, soul comforting soups, Starbucks lattes, the scent of pumpkin and apples laced throughout my home, and cozy blankets. Lets not forget college football! All of these provide such comfort and happiness, and I can’t help but reflect on how blessed I truly am.

The slow down from summer… gardening, guests, etc. I also love the smell of rain with the fall leaves colors… we went for over 80 days without rain. Soon the snow will come so I relish this year’s beautiful fall.

I love the Fall because of the crispness in the air, football, and marching band season for my son and his awesome High School Band. (my husband and I are part of the Pit Crew that hauls the equipment on and off the field!) Fall reminds me of my childhood in Pennsylvania, the beautiful colors of the trees on the mountain, apples and apple cider, and marching in MY high school band. The crispness in the air and the clear blue skies make me more aware of God’s infinite grace – that after the oppressiveness of the summer heat, relief is coming and it is GOOD!

    Lorie Harris says:

I love fall because of football. We cheer and yell for our team and have a big time. Also, I love fall because my youngest son was born durning this season, on Oct. 31. He turned 21 yesterday. Thanks for this fun give away.

    Kristin Veltman says:

Nine years ago I ‘retired’ from teaching to stay home full-time with my first baby. However, I still look at life from a school year calendar & fall always represents new beginnings for me… new goals, new organization, new office supplies (who doesn’t love a freshly sharpened Ticonderoga #2 pencil?!), perhaps even new sweaters & boots??

P.S. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Starbucks’ Salted Caramel Mocha as a fall favorite. Yummy!

I love Beth’s Christ-centered studies and enjoy reading the blog. Growing up in Asia, I never knew any other season except hot & humid Summer. When I landed in N.Y in late October, the first smell I remember was Autumn; to this day, I so enjoy that scent…the crisp & cool scent which not only reminds me of the variety and beauty our God created in nature. It’s also a fun season to start the fireplace and make those soups and chilies.

Too many things to name just one! All of my senses are awakened in the fall ….. the FEEL of flannel sheets and oversized hoodies; the TASTE of comfort foods like soup, pumpkin bread, spiced tea, and chili; the SMELL of crisp air, dry leaves, and chimney smoke; the SIGHT of colors that only Almighty God could dream up; and the SOUND of loved ones gathered close and ready to snuggle. I am Over the Moon for Fall.

  17. 2167
    Stephanie Knight says:

Fall has never meant much to me because in the South it’s almost nonexistent, and I’ve always been a very cold natured person. However, now I have two reasons to enjoy fall: 1) I’ve hit menopause and my internal heater has finally come on. Lol and 2) It’s signifies the time of year my daughter received her second chance at life. 2 years ago in October she received the precious gift of a new set of lungs! Praise You, Heavenly Father for Your never-ending precious gifts! Hope you guys have an amazing fall at lproof!

I’ve always loved fall because growing up in Austin, Texas, it was never guaranteed from one year to the next.

Some years it just didn’t happen, and i’d buckle down and wait for the next window of opportunity… next… year…

I’ve always imagined how people with all four seasons must be living life to the fullest! πŸ™‚ It’s still my dream to live somewhere with a real fall & winter.

    Linda Braio says:

Ahhh, Fall has always blessed me through the colors God has painted on the earth! Most of all He gave my husband and I three beautiful daughters all born in the fall. I love the fall because it brings back a favorite memory of going to a wonderful little three room school in first and second grades, 55 years ago! Yes, 55 is correct:-) Such a happy memory of smelling those new crayons, new workbooks, learning new words, reading for myself and not having to have someone read to me. And, the above reasons are only a few of why I love the fall!

  23. 2173

I LOVE Fall, it’s my favorite time of the year. The crisp, cool weather. I live in South Ga so the smell of fresh dug peanuts fill the air. Cotton fields look like snow (we call it GA Snow). The beauty of the changing leaves display the imagination and wonder of God our Creator. Snuggling on the couch under blankets and reading the Word. It’s just all so wonderful!!!

    Sara Hovis says:

I love fall because its the prologue to the holidays spent with friends and family. . My Daddy was a farmer, and I rarely saw him during this time of harvest. He left home early and came home late. I have warm memories of saving him a dinner plate in the oven, hearing his truck pull in and sneaking in to see him even though I was supposed to be in bed. He’d let my sisters and I play in the cotton trailer when it was full from a long day of picking. He passed away in October nine years ago. Fall became difficult for a few years, but The Lord has graciously and generously restored my love for this season. I know Daddy’s view of the cotton fields is much better now!

Without a doubt, Fall is my FAVORITE time of year! Reminds me of my childhood, the leaves turning, days getting shorter, the weather turning cooler and Mom making homemade donuts and hot apple cider–and of course my birthday on the cusp of the holiday season (near Thanksgiving)!

Ever since I was a child, I’ve been in love with Fall and the way God dressed the trees in His GLORY!! One afternoon (when I was in 4th grade) my girlfriend and I made/drew out our wedding invitations (as it’s a girls’ dream to be the princess in white). While I had projected that I’d get married at 24 (and the date of 10-18-84), the Lord saw fit to allow me to have my forever dreamed of Fall wedding . . . it just was 20 years later–on 10-16-09! My sister wore burgundy–my favorite color of Fall, and I CHERISH our wedding video to rehearse that magical day when I got to be the bride and marry the love of my life!

  35. 2185

    Vicki Parker says:

I LOVE Fall! I love the cooler temps (although they come and go here in N. TX), the smells of wet leaves as they pile up on the ground, the sounds of the bands from the nearby high school football field on Friday nights and Thanksgiving! I’m thankful to God that this time of year makes more people stop and think about all of the good things in life and to praise God.

    Shelly King says:

What do I love most about fall? I absolutely love it to pieces. My house becomes like a homey little inn and the candle scents for this time of year are my favorite. Especially pumpkin. Hee! Hee! The fall is when my husband leaves for his big kill. He is an avid hunter and I totally encourage him to go! go! go! Now I don’t want you to get the wrong idea. I absolutely love him but what I enjoy is my QUIET time. I’m usually in Bible Study this time of the year and I adore my quite time with burning a candle and digging in God’s word. It’s my absolute treasure! I’m just dang thankful for fall!

  39. 2189
    Hollye Hornsby says:

I love Fall because its such a wonderful reminder that God is in control of all things. Seeing his majesty through the color of the trees and the change in weather, is incredible. May we never forget what an awesome God we serve! Thank you all for this blog! (And the encouragement and humor that comes with it!)

  40. 2190
    Rachael Davis says:

Fall means Saturday morning visitors in the form of 3 children crawling into bed with me just to cuddle and warm up. Those extra 15 minutes of rest and all the kids wiggling to get as close as possible are what makes fall the best season πŸ™‚

  41. 2191
    Sherrie Pridemore says:

I love the colors, the crunch of the leaves under my feet, raking leaves into piles for children to jump in; repeat raking, repeat jumping.
Hay rides and bonfires with friends and families singing songs and praising our Lord.
Oh yeah one other thing: FOOTBALL, playing, watching, cheering.
This fall has been very sad as my 17 year old cat died. She was buried in the midst of trees decorated with leafs of beautiful colors. Which brings me back to the colors.

  42. 2192
    Anita Siecker says:

I love Fall because I can finally stop sweating!! I just love the cooler weather, and it getting colder every week! And I love the smell of fires in the fireplace πŸ™‚
