DEAR SIESTAS! THE MERE THOUGHT OF YOU IS MAKING ME GO ALL-CAPSY.

It has been FOREVER and then some but I have been thinking about you. I know I haven’t been in this here blog-space much recently but I can assure you that I’m still at LPM. My days are full since I’m working and going to school part-time. AGAIN. Yes, again. Somehow even when I vow to walk away for good, I end up right back in the classroom in some capacity. This time around I’m working slowly on a M.A. in Biblical Languages at Houston Baptist University. When I’m not researching something for a project at LPM, I’m taking a Greek class in the Septuagint and a Hebrew readings class in the Joseph narrative. Oh, and how could I forget to mention Winston Jeffrey Fitzpatrick?! A little over a year ago Colin brought home a baby rottweiler and our life has never been the same since (even when I desperately want it to be!). Winnie is SO, SO bad but we love him madly.

Here is W posing in my dining room. Or demanding a filet mignon cooked over medium, I’m not really sure.

Here he is again furious about having to wear his birthday hat:

But really, enough about us.

I want to talk about YOU and a fall giveaway we are doing because we love you and appreciate you.

Now, I should mention at this point that if you are one of those people who is SO OVER all the talk about pumpkin-flavored anything, then you will want to run for your life.

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE.

Do I have a faithful fall remnant?

This weekend we had our first legit “cold-front” here in Houston. It was even down in the forties one night. Glory be! The crisp cold air in my lungs got to me in the best way possible and, of all things, I wanted to cook. There’s just something about fall that always brings me back to the kitchen. Nothing better than listening to a little Norah Jones or The Civil Wars with the windows cracked open, cool breeze dancing through the house, while a chili or stew simmers on the stove. I thought just maybe fall might do the same for some of you so the grand prize winner will get a redΒ Le Creuset signature round dutch oven (red not orange like the one on the box).

I love it passionately and do not want to let it go. I even enjoy posing with the beloved dutch oven:

The second prize to be claimed is a $100 gift card to Pottery Barn because, let’s be honest, Pottery Barn during the fall season is heaven on earth:

Gift number 3 includes an amazing decorative pillow, fall flower arrangement, and Hill Country Home candle.

Gift number 4 includes a fun little clutch from Anthro, a scarf, several pairs of boot socks, and some gorgeous MAC makeup in fallish colors.

Here is Lindsee modeling the scarf. Love her and she can work a scarf better than anyone I know:

This MAC stuff is tough to photograph but fantastic (includes three eye shadow kits and two lipsticks in shades of Russian Red and Viva Glam III).

Gift number 5 has a bunch of fun stuff: Cook’s Illustrated Fall Entertaining magazine, kitchen towels, mulling spices, Hill Country Home candle (again this is one of my faves!), autumn cupcake decorating set, beautiful engraved silver dish, Trader Joe’s Pumpkin bread mix, and more.

Gift number 6 comes with a fun autumn welcome mat, potpourri, decorative kitchen towel, and my favorite ever mulled apple cider candle. DIVINE.

Here is Mom sorting out all the gifts. Isn’t she cute?

So dear friend, for a chance to win one of the six prizes, please leave a comment with your first and last name and tell us something you love about fall.

We love you so much,

Melissa

I love the food and attire of autumn. Oversized hoodies and a big bowl of chili, hot chocolate, thick socks and slippers…soups, bread (well that’s all year for me), roasts, and college football game day food.

    Nancy Carpenter says:

I love all the colors of Fall. Living in Idaho, we get to experience all the fall colors as the trees change. There are so many shades, reds, yellows, orange-simply beautiful.

    kluvst says:

I love the Autumn color palette! Here in NC we have abundance of bright yellows and some ravishing reds, along with exploding oranges! The afternoon sun glowing through these trees reminds me of the glory of God and the leaves falling so gracefully from the trees helps me to remember his showers of blessing with mercy drops around us. God is in the details and Autumn is one of His most explicit times of showing of His grandeur. He is The Master Artist for sure!!

    Debbie Brown says:

A Michigan-girl transplanted by God’s leading to Texas, Fall looks, smells, feels, and breaths a little differently down here in the South. I sure do miss the beautiful splendor of the bursts of intense colors the trees display….almost used to seem like the colors would drip right off the leaves, fresh from Gods paintbrush. =) But one thing hasn’t canged about Fall, and that is what it speaks. It speaks of a time of change…from the adventure and water splashes and business that summer is…Fall speaks of a calming. A time to start pulling your loved-ones a little closer, reminisc on the adventures of last season, stop to enjoy the distinct smells of the new season…and become thankful for them all. It’s a preparation for the calming and silence of creation during the Winter season that is just around the corner, and a call on our hearts for a moment of thankfulness as we prepare to enter a season of peace, calmness, and worship our our Savior’s choice to come to Earth. I guess in the end, Michigan and Texas Falls aren’t that different after all. =)

    -winter veggies
    -the color of trees
    -camp fires
-The “thankful” Facebook statuses that people post in November. πŸ™‚

Fall in Texas is not always a lot different than summer, but I love the anticipation of what is coming – Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the Holidays. The best anticipation is knowing my family will be together, my boys will be back home from college and we can spend time together.

    Letha says:

Letha Mahan. I love photographing the fall trees from my pink kayak! This year, was a little different in that a special surprise awaited me one cloudy, mid-60 degree day. We had been on the river for about 45 minutes for a “3 hour tour.” Approaching a line of some rapids (well, actually more like big ripples), I put my camera away in my dry bag – reluctantly ’cause after all, I’d never turned over before and there were so many beautiful shots to be taken. But put it away I did (thank You, Lord). I had almost cleared the swift water, not paying attention to anything but that gorgeous red tree in front of me, thinking, (yeah, you guessed it) “Wish I hadn’t put my camera away” when the top of a boulder slid oh-so-smoothly under the right side of my kayak and rudely tumped (is that a word? spell check says no) it upside down. As I pulled myself on top of the bottom, I looked over and saw that wonderful dry bag with my worldly possessions: camera, cell phone, keys. SAFE! floating down river just as pretty as you please. IT WORKS! After stripping out of my wet jean crops and heavy sweatshirt, my sweet husband gave me his sweatshirt and all was well. (If your curiosity gets the best of you, check out the Norfork River pictures at http://www.lethamahan.com).

I love the feeling that everything seems to slow down a little this time of year. It’s an oppourtunity to decorate and fill the house with the wonderful smells of all things hearty. Thanks so much for providing a place for women to take just a moment for themselves. I currently have 5 kids. 2 of my own and 3 foster children. Having this space to read and reflect is truly a blessing. Thank you!!!!

  22. 3772
    Tiffany I. says:

Living in Georgia means our seasons are mild to non-existent…BUT, I do love the crispness in the air and the changing leaves. I love that I finally have an excuse to curl up in a chair with a big, ol’ comfy blanket, a cup of coffee, and a good book! For some reason, November 1st always brings feelings of gratitude for another year full of memories and blessings.

Early fall means riding to collect cows, canning fruits and vegetables, draining hoses, building up the wood pile, checking the hay stacks, and starting our new Beth Moore Bible studies. Late fall means wood smoke in the air, late mornings and early nights, resting from hard labor, starting to feed cows and horses, watching the sandhill cranes fly over, and cold mornings with bright sunshine. My favorite time of year!

    Oh, how I love Autumn!!!!

This time of year is usually the time that we visit family in other states. We just returned from a 2 week vacation to Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio, and Colorado, logging over 3600 miles in the US!!! My hubby and I just love the time we get to spend with each other. He drives and I read to him. We sing, we laugh, we pray, and we enjoy the trees along the way with their colors, reminding us of the incredible God we serve!!! Oh, that we could do this more often. We thank for this season we have that chosen to travel – Autumn – full of expectation and revelation. We have seen the wonders of Christ in everything we see, hear, and do the past few days. We attended a World Missions Conference that messed us up BAD!!! We will never be the same again.

I would love to go on and on about all that we have enjoyed, but I am still in my jammies writing this and it’s nearly lunch time here in Michigan.

To God be the Glory, forever and ever. Thank you Beth Moore for the awesome blog and the wonderful simulcast that I was a part of in Lansing, Michigan. I must go now and borrow some vessels πŸ™‚

    Hi girls,
I love Fall especially this year because my first grandchild is going to born! A Thanksgiving surprise and what a glorious blessing from God. Aside from all of that sweetness, I love the exquisite colors of Fall, the scents of Fall, the crisp, clean air of Fall and the brilliance of God’s majesty in the stunning landscapes. Fall is a time to gather with your family, friends and loved ones and remember the bountiful love of our heavenly Father and all the abundant blessings he has bestowed upon us. I truly do love Autumn!

Happy Friday! Here in Virginia, fall is in full swing. 16 friends and I travel to a getaway lodge in Claytor Lake each fall. What an incredible tradition (6 times now!). The weekend is a relaxing getaway from the busyness of our working lives. We play games, read books, sing by the campfire, play bocci and corn hole, and eat lots of delicious, warm, fall food. It’s splendid!

  48. 3798
    Susan Stephens says:

What I love about the fall is football season. Sorry I’m one of those females who loves sports. It is also a special time for me because we lost our 8 year old son several years ago in the fall. I don’t know why but the cool crisp weather in the mornings, warmer in the afternoons reminds me of all the days spent at the cemetery in those months immediately following his heavenly celebration but but also in the years ahead. Fall is always very reflective on what God did in our lives with our precious Samuel for 8 years and continues to do.

Now let’s both pray for some cooler weather b/c I don’t have much in my neck of the woods either! πŸ™‚
