Siesta Scripture Memory Team 2015: Verse 24!

Congratulations!! You did it!!

As we wrap a bow on our SSMT year and prepare for the upcoming Celebration, we want to send along our encouragement to you to continue in this great work.  Some of you have already told us you are continuing to memorize on your own, or have even formed your own local teams.  We couldn’t be happier to hear it!

Beth and LPM will plan to see you right back here next Jan 2017 to link arms together to hide God’s Word in our hearts. He is worthy!

Oh, this year! January brought us the news that a second baby was on the way for our family, which had us rejoicing. March brought us a devastating miscarriage and complications as a result, which left us reeling. July then yielded a positive pregnancy test that nearly shocked the socks off of both of us! Now I sit typing this with a 7 month pregnant bump–feeling a little boy bounce around in my belly and listening to my precious 2 year old boy babble in his crib. I have tears in my eyes reflecting on God’s faithfulness through all of the highs and lows of this year. The SSMT has given me scripture to focus on during the wide range of experiences I walked through and I am so incredibly thankful. My prayer is that this study of God’s Word has managed to make its way into the marrow of this little unborn baby’s bones–oh that he would know and LOVE the Lord and have a lifelong passion for His Word!! Thank you to Beth and to the entire team for coordinating, encouraging, and motivating us!!!

Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints,

but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

What amazing promises we have right in our hands in His word! Those who seek Him lack no good thing! Wow! I cried as I recited this on the way to work this morning. This has been a difficult year but also one of healing and I have been so blessed when I go back over all the verses I’ve hidden in my heart during this time. I want to keep it going for a little while longer so I set to memorize the whole chapter – Psalm 34 – beginning Nov 15. Now I’m about halfway through. I have always said this was my favorite Psalm and it is SO close to home that I want to finally commit the whole thing to memory. Thank you SO MUCH all of you for the encouragement to take this journey.

    Katherine Emerson, Livingston, Tx
“Be careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity (redeeming the time), because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15-16 NIV

This journey with SSMT has gone by a lot more quickly than expected. I have struggled with memorizing the scriptures, however I have often dwelt on the ones I chose. The first scripture I memorized has helped me through so much this year: Romans 12:12 “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction & faithful in prayer.” I have had a good year, but have faced some struggles on the way, I am still waiting in joyful hope for the house God has promised my husband & I. We learned on December 1st that I am losing my job, but i’m reminded to be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer…through it all I’m learning to trust God. Two more of my favorites are: Psalm 94:18-19 “When I said ‘My food is slipping,’ your unfailing love Lord, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.” and Psalm 33:22 “May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.”
Love & Hope have been a very constant reminder in the scriptures for me this year…I hoping for all that God has for us, but I’m learning to be content in the moment where we are. Thank you Beth & team for this opportunity!

Thank you, thank you, Beth! I have LOVED being part of the Siesta Scripture Memory Team! This is my first time as I only heard about it by a chance encounter with the LPM Blog this time last year. I am so sorry I will not be able to come to Houston for the celebration.

I am excited about hiding God’s word in my heart as I have never been before (and I’m 60 years old!). The biggest impact this year was that from March through June I memorized Ephesians 6:10-20 – The Armor of God – and it means SO much to me in this day and age when we are under increasing attack even in our own country and truly need to stand firm. I am not ashamed to say that I am clinging to those verses. And I am so encouraged by them.

This is the first time doing SSMT, and the first time in decades I’ve tried to memorize. God’s perfect timing as this year has been one of the toughest – I’ve had to let go of a lot of “things” that I relied on and instead rely on only God to see me through.
