Thank you Siesta Sisters for the journey! Will definitly do this again next year. I love searching through the Scriptures for just the right verse to memorize. I’ve recapped why I chose each verse, to find themes and areas God is working in me. I find as I memorize, new richness and meanings become clear. Thanks!

Praise and thanks be to Jesus Who stands by us as we LIVE in the Word….what an awesome journey this has been! As I read back through my journal, I am amazed at how well my blog entries fit my given circumstances each time….more amazed at how they fit what was TO COME! The Lord knows what we need well before we do!

In thanks for Beth’s never ending encouragement and with love to this family of Scripture Memorizing Siestas, I joyfully post this last verse for 2015…

“May He grant you your heart’s desire
    And fulfill all your counsel!
We will sing for joy over your victory,
And in the name of our God we will set up our banners.
May the LORD fulfill all your petitions.”

    Psalm 20:4-5 (NASB)

And SISTERS….please take a moment and read that whole chapter, a Psalm of David, it is LOADED with encouragement….wish I could have posted all 9 verses for you, but your heart will be filled if you go to it in the Lord’s book, put a big ribbon there and take in every word.

    See you in January!

For years I have struggled to memorize scripture and to do so consistently. And it was a desire of mine to do so, but I could find nothing that worked for me. So you can imagine when I heard about siesta for the first time last year, how excited I was. I’m even more excited today to say I made it through an entire year, not missing an entry, maybe still stumbling on a few verses, but I MADE IT, and I even memorized passages like the verse for today which I will continue to add the several more verses to in the weeks to come. THANK YOU for this, for encouraging us along the way, for reminding us we could do this. I did and I’ve been encouraging others throughout the year that they could do it, too.

      Cheryl,
That is so exciting! I am so proud of you for sticking with it and seeing how faithful God is! I started memorizing scripture with Beth through this very blog a few years backs and I cannot count the times the Spirit has brought those very verses back to encourage, comfort, sustain me or someone I needed to minister to.

This verse perfectly summarizes what God has done for me this year step by step through my memory verses! I began the year mired in sadness, guilt and despair. He redirected my focus and slowly tenderly and lovingly drew me to Himself. I eventually settled firmly on the Rock of His love. I am stronger now and hopeful and setting forth. and the sin which so easily ensnares us,
and let us run with endurance,
the race that is set before us,
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher
of our faith, who for the joy that was set
    before Him endured the cross,
    despising the shame, and has
sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

    Kathy says:

My first time to accomplish this. I have tried before but could not keep the memorizing. I am 55 years old too old try to memorize I thought, and this year has been a challenge. My mind has got to be focused on heaven I can only make it that way. The verses I chose were chosen specific to the struggle that month. My husbands stage 4 cancer trips to MD Anderson, my husbands job closing looking frantically for a new job for me after years of staying home so we can continue treatment for the cancer. My last baby going off to college only knowing 3 or 4 kids out of 50,000 students. My oldest facing the job of tending to 43 girls on her floor as an RA plus dealing with her daddy so sick and 1000 miles away from us. A dear friend losing her job for no reason. Therefore we do not lose heart though outwardly we are wasting away inwardly we are being renewed day by day for our light and momentary afflictions are producing in us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. SO WE FIX OUR EYES NOT ON WHAT IS SEEN BUT ON WHAT IS UNSEEN, FOR WHAT IS SEEN IS TEMPORARY BUT IS UNSEEN ETERNAL. That is how I say that verse standing up hands in the air claiming my destiny in heaven. My sweet Lord has prepared a place for me my husband and my precious children. My verse this time is: Psalm 65 :11 You crown the year with your bounty your wagon tracks overflow with abundance. Being the ancestor of some sweet people who came to Texas before it was a Republic I know they came in wagons and this verse is precious to me that The Lord is crowning this year with abundance , the abundance of His love and promises.

I am thrilled and overjoyed that I will be attending the celebration in Houston for the 3rd time and for the 2nd time with my sweet daughter Meredith. This has been a more difficult year for me to memorize as I have been distracted by a prolonged period of waiting that has me frustrated and very sad. I can’t even get excited about Christmas this year. But as I meditate on God’s Word I am encouraged and strengthened. I am once again reminded that the season of Advent is a season of waiting. Oh, and what we are waiting for is so much more than anything else I am ever waiting for! The promise of the coming of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Nothing else matters. Can’t wait to celebrate that!!!!

    1 Cor. 13:7 NLT
Love never gives up, never looses faith, is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance.

My family and I had a new start this year. I was very hopeful and prayerful it would be a place and time of contentment, peace. It has been anything but. I chose today’s scripture because I really need to know to the core that my love isn’t failing. To not give up faith. TO NEVER GIVE UP HOPE. That even in the current mess of our circumstances, love can pull us through.

Right now I just want to give up. But love says no.

Thank you for this prompting. I decided early on that in order to truly memorize these I would take the drive to work with my son as the opportunity to have him help me and he has been a hard task master – helping me strive for every word. The best part of this is that over the time he has memorized most all of them as well. He is 17 and very soon he will be leaving the nest and no matter where he goes I know that these verses have attached themselves to him as well. That is my blessing. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

-the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

I’ve been working on my verses as I bike most mornings (it’s stationary, so I can be hands free ). On countless mornings my mind has been wandering through the tasks of the day, or what’s ahead/behind, etc. But AS SOON AS I begin the discipline of telling my mind ‘we’re working on scripture now’ there is instant focus and the rest of my morning feels so much more peaceful! We are moving to another state in 2 weeks and I have already been encouraging my dear friends here to join me in memorizing scripture in 2017 so we can celebrate together, should Jesus’ order to come after His Bride not be given yet (hey, a girl can hope we have another go-round of this!). Thanks for always pointing us to the biggest Blast! Love you!
