Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional): WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.

Couldn’t wait to do Beth’s new study and always do a summer study
I’m from western north Carolina Mountains. This is my first bible study. I’m going through a hard time. I recently lost my moma to Cancer and the Lord took her to heaven in less than 5 months of being diagnosed. So I’m turning to the Lord for help cause I feel so lost with out her. Rip May 28 2014 Linda Gail Burris. She was only 63.
I forgot my quirk is the word whatever it make me feel like what I say is important.

I just wanted to spend some more time with God this summer!
Quirks? I thought I was just special! I like for my toast to sit in the toaster for a minute or two before buttering…that way it is crunchy, not soggy.

4. I have been in a season of daily health challenges for quite a few years, continuous loss and a long season of grief so I want to do this study for the following reasons: Because the word continually saves me from me, to grow deeper in love with Christ (I want to love Him so much that I ache), because the word heals and because He is life.
5. I have to match my undergarments with my outer garments and I can’t borrow books from others … You just never know where their hands have been (Smile).

Need a reminder of how God can use ANY pain
This is just what I need to stay in the Word. If I feel part of a group, I will stay more committed and focused. I will be doing this as a reinforcer since I’m also attending a study group for Children of the Day. As you can see, I’m a follower (my quirk) not a leader, but very choosy who I follow. Thanks, Beth, for being an example for me.

5. I order banana splits with no bananas 🙂
1. Beverly S

3. Small group meeting in our homes
4. I want to be in the Bible study this summer because it has been a few years since I have participated in a women’s Bible study. I have been a caregiver for my elderly uncle and am thirsty to be in The Word! (Also, I am a breast cancer survivor since 2011!)
5. My biggest quirk is that I wake up every morning full of joy! (I thought this was natural for everyone, but apparently it is not.) I live in a world that allows me to see the positive in other people and my life. I am grateful to God and to my husband who allow me to love and serve others with the freedom of time to do so.

5. Funny thing is I can think of all of my husbands quirks but none of my own. I must not have any 😉
I’m in Nashville and doing this study alone. I want to go deeper into the Word and I truly connect to the Word through Beth’s bible studies.

5- Sale items (particularly toys or way-low clearance Banana-Republic-like items) have a tendency to justify blowing/tweeking the budget a little bit. Now, isn’t that oxymoronic? Maybe just plain silly?

I am going SOLO on this Bible study, and I really need it, as I have just moved to a new city with my husband of 10 months. We are getting ready to have our first child within the next couple months.
I have always been encouraged by Beth’s studies and look forward to being involved with this one! Hope it’s not too late to join!

3. Small group! Actually, a partnership. I’m doing this study with a dear friend from college, but because we’re in different states, we plan to meet on Skype once a week.
4. I just graduated from a Christian college, and I want to establish the habit of being in Scripture every day before I take on a teaching job this coming fall. Because I will not be surrounded with the immediate Christian community in which I was submerged over the last four years, I want to stay intentional about listening for the Lord’s voice and remaining rooted in Jesus.
5. I make everything into a balance beam. I was a die-hard gymnast until high school, and everything, whether the curb or the line between the grass and sidewalk or the wooden planks on the floor, somehow becomes a balance beam to me!

4. I just LOVE your Bible studies. I would do them all day, but that would be selfish. I have a husband and 2 boys. God keeps amazing me and I want to follow His calling on my life.
5. My first reaction to somebody getting hurt is to laugh…only if it’s not serious, like a trip or a slip or getting hit in the face with a soccer ball. Of course I ask them if they’re okay after I’ve laughed and apologize for laughing first. I laugh at myself too!
