Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.Â
Â
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
Â
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional):Â WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
Â
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
 Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.Â
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.Â

The first time I did one of Beth’s studies…I yelled up at God from sunbathing / Esther in my back yard…”you HEARD me!” For so long i felt like I was supposed to LIKE waterskiing with the Pastor….I wanted MORE…DEEPER…explanations without cute stories dragging me down a dry stream bed. Please STAY DEEP Beth, no matter what lifeway wants!
Laura Berg from Carlsbad, CA
I am doing the study with a group of 7 other amazing women. Daybreak Siestas. We are meeting at each other’s homes.
I wanted to do this study with these women this summer for many reasons. Many of us in the group are on our church staff or leaders in the church. This is a group where we can all be ourselves, share our lives completely and grow deeper in the Lord together. If anyone else out there is in ministry leadership you will understand that so often we have to “be on” around those we serve. We always want to be real with everyone, but to share our personal lives in every way is something we do with our trusted and loved friends. We are all so very blessed to have each other and to be embarking on this incredible study on Thessalonians.

As someome else said, life is hard…and God, through His Word, is my strength. Though I have done many in-depth studies in the past, my many responsbilities in what I expected would be my retirement years have caused me to put Bible study aside. I am starting a new job this month, while dealing with serious health issues…but I am looking forward to starting anew with the Lord though this study.
that would be THROUGH this study…and I forgot my quirk:
I like to alphabetize everything:spices, canned goods, lists…you name it, and I’ll put it in “ABC” order!

3) Facebook group of 18 – COTD East Texas. Many women from our church have decided it would be easier to discuss online.
4) I am doing this bible study because I’ve never officially done one. I was saved about a year and a half ago and I feel like since then I’ve lost some of the fire I had. I want to make God #1 in my life and my marriage, and I also have trouble finishing the things I start so I am starting with this bible study, and by God’s grace I will change that about myself.
5) If I am writing in pen on a piece of paper and I mess something up I always have to get a new piece of paper and rewrite it all out. I’ve even gone so far as to buy whole new composition books because you can’t rip the pages out…

1. Candice Folta
2. Pasco, WA
3. With a friend/ VERY small group 🙂
4. I am finishing up Esther: It’s Tough Being a Woman, which I have been doing SOLO. I have been wanting to do a Bible Study with others and there’s not a lot of opportunities between attending a small church and my busy schedule. The subject matter of 1 & 2 Thessalonians and the themes you mentioned on the blog intrigued me. So when my friend also wanted to do it, we decided to commit.
5. My quirk: I am naturally both an introverted but my good friends would swear that I am an extravert. I love being with my friends and am very outgoing with them and in certain environments; but I can also get very shy and when I am home, I just like to be by myself and read or watch TV. It’s a “God-thing” when I am bold, friendly, and welcoming instead of shy in a new situation.

I am going solo
My husband lost his job 2 years ago and I have been working 2 and 3 jobs while taking care of my family to make ends meet. Along with watching my Dad fight cancer for the past 5 years, I have just not had the time to join a small group at church for Bible Study.
Name: Amy Reynolds
City: Senoia, GA
Small group. I’m a personal trainer and gym owner. I will be heading up a small group with some of my clients. There will be 4 of us!
The reason for the study is simple. I led a group at the end of last year through “So Long Insecurities”. It was an awesome time for my clients and I. We were discussing having another study and I found this.
Personal quirk…I can’t stand the clipping of finger and/or toe nails…and I can hear this being done a mile away!
