(Drum Roll Please!)
According to our random drawing, the lucky winner is…Gail Denlinger! (Comment posted on March 15, 2012 at 6:40 am.)
Gail, if you would please email me at [email protected] with your mailing address, we will get this Bible in your hands as soon as possible. Congratulations, Sister! Y’all check back next week for another fun giveaway. Have a wonderful weekend!
Update: Comments are now closed. Ladies, y’all are SO incredibly fun. And might I add serious about your Bibles and Bible translations. Praise the Lord! Check back tomorrow morning for the fun announcement of our lucky winner! And while I have your attention, our Siesta Mama actually gets up to speak at the conference for the first time in about 2 1/2 hours (It’s already Friday there). Your prayers would be so appreciated! See you in the morning!
Good Wednesday afternoon, Siestas!
By now you may have seen on twitter (if you’re a twitter user) that Beth and Amanda made it safely to Sydney! Jet lag is no joke there because in case you were wondering, Australia is 16 hours ahead of us. I kept joking that they were flying into the future. Whoa! You honestly would not waste a prayer on them as Beth and the team prepares to minister to the folks attending the Colour Conference. They are so pumped, but it doesn’t come without sacrifice and a lot of work. If you’ve not already been praying, start praying now because since they’re almost a day ahead of us, the conference begins sooner than later!
Anyway, we didn’t want the blog to suffer while our Siesta Mama was gone, so I’m here to do our first fun giveaway! (Yes, we’re doing another one next week. I know you’re pumped!)
I don’t know about you, but I love getting a new Bible.
In fact, just this past Sunday at church I was thinking it was time to put my old one aside and start searching for a new one. True story. I don’t know how much longer it will actually survive as it is literally falling apart (I don’t say that because I’m so spiritual, but more so to prove to you how old it is) and I don’t feel like digging out the duct tape to repair this one. (You know you’ve done it before, too!) Since I’m a creature of habit, I tend to stick with the same study Bible time after time, but I’m feeling kind of rogue and might venture out this time into the land of the unknown.
As much as I love getting a new Bible, there is a certain degree of separation that is hard to part from my old Bible. We’ve been through a lot. And I love looking back at all I’ve underlined and marked up. But I suppose a new season calls for a new Bible.
Anyway, I know you’re probably wondering why I’m going on and on about my Bible, and maybe I’ve convinced you that you need a new one to, to which I’ll say you’ve landed in the right place!
We have a really fun giveaway that I think you’ll like.
Recently our sweet Beth received a Life Essentials Study Bible (“The First Multi-Media Study Bible”) with her name engraved on the front. For those who are curious, the translation is the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB). Here’s the deal, if our Siesta Mama hadn’t just purchased a new Bible for herself just prior to receiving this one, she would have kept it for herself. It was such a kind gesture from the publisher, but she really wanted to gift it to one our Siestas!
Besides this being a study Bible, it has some other really neat tools that I’ve personally been playing with to make myself familiar with it the past few days.
With our technology changing and updating as quickly as newborn babies change outfits everyday, it’s no shock to me that this Bible has a new addition to it that can be used with your smart phone.
If you look at the front cover (pictured above), and inside the Bible (there’s a little peek below), you’ll see a bar code looking symbol. That nifty little symbol we refer to as a QR code. If you own a smart phone, you can download a free QR Reader app, and then all you do is use that application to scan the bar code to find out more information about that particular item. All throughout this Bible are hundreds of QR codes that take you to a website to find out more information about that particular scripture. How fun is that? You certainly don’t need a smart phone to win this Bible, but that’s just a little bonus for those of you that do own one.
So, who is interested? Listen, if it weren’t for you, Siestas, I would have already claimed it for myself.
Here’s how it will work:
1) Leave a comment with your first and last name. If you don’t leave both, you won’t be eligible for the drawing!
2) For fun, if you’re into this kind of thing, go ahead and tell us in brief your favorite Bible. Shout out to all the Precious Moment’s Bible owners out there! I’m pretty sure I still have that one stowed away somewhere safe. What joy!
Ready? Set? Sound off in the comments! We’ll leave the comments open until 3:30 on Thursday afternoon (CST) and then we’ll do a random drawing and post the winner at the top of this post later that day. That means you will have a little over 24 hours to enter, so be on the lookout to see if your name appears!
Although I don’t want to assume everyone is on spring break, I would imagine most of you are, so if that’s the case, we so hope you’re enjoying every minute of it. And if you don’t get that luxury, I’m praying the Lord delights you where you’re at and gives you an extra dose of rest.
We love y’all!
I love the word of God!!! I read many versions just to get a better understanding and a more complete look at scripture – but my “carry all the time” version is NIV.
I love getting a new Bible. I know that my old Bible is still a part of me and is waiting for me if I need to refer back to it. It’s almost like having a new child; you don’t love any of your children any less, you just get to love more :). Letha Mahan
I love my Life Application NIV Bible. So many notes, highlights, and prayers, but I’d love to experience the QR Reader aspect of the Bible in this give-away.
Thanks for the opportunity.
My name is Diane Archibald. My favorite Bible is Kay Arthur’s International Inductive Study Bible. Love it!
Although I loved my Teen Study Bible and the cool 90s splatter paint cover, I am most loving a study Bible I recently chose for sentimental reasons. Growing up, I watched my mother pour over her burgandy and gold-paged Bible until it was falling apart. I want my children to see the same, so that’s what I picked-burgandy with gold pages.
My favorite is the NIV Life Application Study Bible my husband gave me for a wedding present almost 19 years ago.
For the past 5 years I’ve used the ESV Study Bible. Although my husband uses it more than me for studying. I usually just use my regular ESV Bible and go to blueletterbible.org to study further. My own study Bible might be nice 🙂
Addicted to my NIV. But up for the challenge of a new version !
Saralyn Fowler – NC. (as in TAR HEELS-tehe)
I confess to having a number of different bibles, but have never landed on a favorite. Would love to find an “electronic” version, because I admit to loving my e-reader!!
My name is Heather Narvaez and I am currently using a Quest Study Bible which I really love. Lots of provocative questions on topics covered in the Scriptures.
My favorite Bible is one that my precious daughter gave me before I got saved. I have had it recovered once but retired it many years ago. I still love it.
Oh goodness. I had a Teen Life Application Study Bible in high school and into college. It was wonderful! It was maroon leather. My sweet little yorkie puppie chewed on it and actually ate the front corner. I joked that she was so spiritual becuase she full of The Word!
My favorite bible is my life application study bible NIV. But I do love my YouVersion app to look up the AMP, NLT, MSG, and NET translations as a compliment.
I love my NIV Life Application Bible!
My current Bible is an “NLT Parallel Study Bible” and I love having the parallel study notes because each provides distinct commentary on the verses that I am studying. Historically I have had NIV translations, so I am enjoying studying the Bible in the NLT. I have not studied extensively using a Holman translation (although our church literature uses Holman) and would love to have one!
My name is Kelli Schrader and my favorite, and my first, is my NIV Bible.
Katrina Sinift. My favorite Bible is a small leather NIV Bible given to me by a special friend for Christmas. It had been given to her a few years ago and helped her through some very tough times and she has now passed it on to me. 🙂
Catherine Moore
My favorite Bible is the one I am using now, which is NIV. My husband and I had been married for several years and had already had our two children when I randomly made the comment that “someday” I needed to get a Bible with my married name on the front of it. For Christmas that year he gave me a new Bible with my married name on it. It is the best gift he has ever given me!
Julie Cloe – Ryrie Study Bible (NASB)! Had it for ten years now and can’t bear to part with it!
Bethany Wilson- My fav bible is Charles Stanley in touch bc the margins are sooo big I can write and take notes about what God is teaching me at the time.
I love my NIV Bible that my husband got me a couple of years ago for Christmas. However, I do still have my Precious Moments Bible from when I was little. I love the pictures in that one!
Pam Branch
I’m still stuck on the NIV Study Bible but I also like The Quest Study Bible as well.
Dale Eldridge. Sentimental favorite hard back NIV children’s Bible I received when I was baptized. Used it from the age of 8the until I graduated from high school.
Kiersten Griffith – my favorite is my NLT study Bible and the The Message. I love the way Eugene Peterson portrays the emotion of the scripture.
Good morning, y’all!
I was just saying last night that I need a new bible, as the WOMEN OF FAITH bible that I’ve had for years is truly falling apart! I love it…a gift from my Mom many years ago, and I treasure it (because she’s with Jesus now). I would never, ever part with it…but I do believe it needs to be “retired” from leaving the house for Church and bible study!
The bible y’all are giving away looks awesome! It’s the only one I’ve seen that would encourage me to switch (HA!).
Be blessed in His love today!
Janie:)
Meredith Mitchell
My favorite translation is the amplified, but my favorite actual Bible is the one my husband gave me on our first married Christmas!
My favorite Bible growing up in High School was the Teen Study Bible – NIV.
My favorite Bible is a little pocket size NIV that I have carried in my purse for the past 10 years. I was a youth leader and I originally bought it because I thought the leather looked like a pair of tacky bowling shoes…ok, just being real, y’all. =)Anyhow, that Bible has gone on hikes, the beach, snowtubing, been in backpacks galore, and caught in rainstorms. The red leather long ago faded onto the pages, but I thought that made it look even cooler. As painful as it is to admit Siestas, here is the REAL reason I need a new Bible…when I said little, I meant it has TINY print. I laughed 10 years ago when older friends asked how in the world I could see to read it. Well…I passed the 40 mark and I’m sure not laughing anymore! =( Hahaha! Ok, maybe a just lil, but only because I’ll be breaking out my (now antique) pink Precious Moments Bible with the little lamb on the front if I don’t get a new one soon. PRAYING FOR BETH & THE ENTIRE TEAM!
My Name is Tracy Peters, my favorite Bible is one my Dad gave me days before he died. He was so excited about this particular translation and the life application notes he went out and bought one for me and my sister. that was 15 years ago january, and i have been hooked on Bible study ever since.
The first Bible I purchased on my own (in 1980), was a New American Standard Ryrie Study Bible. It’s a hardcover because, as a college student, I couldn’t afford a leatherbound. It’s been through several “covers” to cover the orginal cover which is falling apart. Currently I’m using an NIV, but I still go back to the old one once in a while. :o)
Jennifer Glass
I have a soft spot in my heart for my Women’s Devotional Bible, the first Bible I ever bought and actually started reading.
I have a Precious Moments Bible, too! I won it in 4th grade at the Christian school I attended.
Dorothy Starns
My favorite Bible is the The Living Bible that was a graduation gift from one of my great aunts and her husband. Being foreign missionaries, we did not get to see them much until they retired, however, their dedication to their work for the Lord has been a lesson in it’s self. The last few years of my aunt’s work here in this temporary home allowed us to see her more often and is a blessing I still hold dear to my heart!
Courtney Cherest
My favorite Bible would have to be a tie at this point in my life:
1. ESV Study Bible (Crossway)
2. The Jesus Storybook Bible (Zonderkids) 🙂
Have a good Thursday!
Christy Treadway
My favorite bible is my Women’s Study Bible-NIV. I got it at my first Women of Faith conference in St. Louis about 10 years ago. Thanks!!
Juliana Pickford – my favorite Bible is my parallel that shows both KJV and NIV side by side. I also have an apologetics Bible and a chronilogical Bible that I use as references. I would love a study bible.
My favorite Bible is the Open Bible I got over 30 years ago from my husband. It’s falling apart now, but I still love and use it.
Denise Dekker
My favorite Bible is the NIV Study Bible my parents gifted on my 16th birthday (24 years ago). Oh the seasons of life and places we have traveled together! It is especially precious because it is the last Bible given by both parents. Dad is rejoicing in glory (17 years).
My Grandma Miller’s pocket Bible (NIV translation). She gave it to me when she had to have her eye removed because they found cancer in it. She said that the writing was too small for her. I cherish it and the memories of her opening it up in church as she eventually went to Heaven after the cancer moved to her liver.
Heather Cameron – my favorite is a bible I purchased for my young son. But it’s so readable, I find myself using it when I’m reading through the bible as a book instead of intensive study: New Living Translation
My favorite bible is the Women’s Study NIV. I love all the short devotionals that are mixed in with the word. It seems like I always turn to the “right” one that gives me a boost during my day.
Jennifer Baker
Fav Bible… My pink ESV Bible for the past 6 years!
Alethia Hauffman
I study from more than one, but my favorite would have to be my New King James version, which was the first bible my boyfriend, now husband of 20 years, bought me when I first gave my life to Christ. :o)
Tami Parker
My favorite Bible is my NIV Study Bible given to me by my parents many years ago. It has my (maiden) name embossed on the front. Love all the extra notes, charts, and info contained in this Bible!
My favorite bible is the NIV Rainbow Study Bible. The entire bible is color coded. Very colorful. I get alot of comments about how colorful it is.
Charlotte Hall
I would love to win this Bible. My favorite Bible is my hcsb notetakers biblwith room to take notes in the margin. But I really need a good hcsb study Bible.
My best friend’s mom gave me the bible I am currently using and I love it because it definitely represents this season in my life. Looking forward to a new season which calls for a new bible!
Kellee Overholser
I love my “The Case for Christ” Study Bible with notes from Lee Strobel on almost every page! He really helps me go deeper in what I’m reading.
My favorite Bible is an ESV journaling Bible. It has cream-colored pages with lines in the wide margins for recording notes. It is also small in size. So it won’t seem like all I care about is whether a Bible is pretty,I have another wide-margin ESV that is my primary Bible that looks like a solid black textbook. The latter one is much more “broken in”. 🙂
Melissa Poelker- My best friend’s mom gave me the bible I am currently using and I love it because it definitely represents this season in my life. Looking forward to a new season which calls for a new bible!
