(Drum Roll Please!)
According to our random drawing, the lucky winner is…Gail Denlinger! (Comment posted on March 15, 2012 at 6:40 am.)
Gail, if you would please email me at [email protected] with your mailing address, we will get this Bible in your hands as soon as possible. Congratulations, Sister! Y’all check back next week for another fun giveaway. Have a wonderful weekend!
Update: Comments are now closed. Ladies, y’all are SO incredibly fun. And might I add serious about your Bibles and Bible translations. Praise the Lord! Check back tomorrow morning for the fun announcement of our lucky winner! And while I have your attention, our Siesta Mama actually gets up to speak at the conference for the first time in about 2 1/2 hours (It’s already Friday there). Your prayers would be so appreciated! See you in the morning!
Good Wednesday afternoon, Siestas!
By now you may have seen on twitter (if you’re a twitter user) that Beth and Amanda made it safely to Sydney! Jet lag is no joke there because in case you were wondering, Australia is 16 hours ahead of us. I kept joking that they were flying into the future. Whoa! You honestly would not waste a prayer on them as Beth and the team prepares to minister to the folks attending the Colour Conference. They are so pumped, but it doesn’t come without sacrifice and a lot of work. If you’ve not already been praying, start praying now because since they’re almost a day ahead of us, the conference begins sooner than later!
Anyway, we didn’t want the blog to suffer while our Siesta Mama was gone, so I’m here to do our first fun giveaway! (Yes, we’re doing another one next week. I know you’re pumped!)
I don’t know about you, but I love getting a new Bible.
In fact, just this past Sunday at church I was thinking it was time to put my old one aside and start searching for a new one. True story. I don’t know how much longer it will actually survive as it is literally falling apart (I don’t say that because I’m so spiritual, but more so to prove to you how old it is) and I don’t feel like digging out the duct tape to repair this one. (You know you’ve done it before, too!) Since I’m a creature of habit, I tend to stick with the same study Bible time after time, but I’m feeling kind of rogue and might venture out this time into the land of the unknown.
As much as I love getting a new Bible, there is a certain degree of separation that is hard to part from my old Bible. We’ve been through a lot. And I love looking back at all I’ve underlined and marked up. But I suppose a new season calls for a new Bible.
Anyway, I know you’re probably wondering why I’m going on and on about my Bible, and maybe I’ve convinced you that you need a new one to, to which I’ll say you’ve landed in the right place!
We have a really fun giveaway that I think you’ll like.
Recently our sweet Beth received a Life Essentials Study Bible (“The First Multi-Media Study Bible”) with her name engraved on the front. For those who are curious, the translation is the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB). Here’s the deal, if our Siesta Mama hadn’t just purchased a new Bible for herself just prior to receiving this one, she would have kept it for herself. It was such a kind gesture from the publisher, but she really wanted to gift it to one our Siestas!
Besides this being a study Bible, it has some other really neat tools that I’ve personally been playing with to make myself familiar with it the past few days.
With our technology changing and updating as quickly as newborn babies change outfits everyday, it’s no shock to me that this Bible has a new addition to it that can be used with your smart phone.
If you look at the front cover (pictured above), and inside the Bible (there’s a little peek below), you’ll see a bar code looking symbol. That nifty little symbol we refer to as a QR code. If you own a smart phone, you can download a free QR Reader app, and then all you do is use that application to scan the bar code to find out more information about that particular item. All throughout this Bible are hundreds of QR codes that take you to a website to find out more information about that particular scripture. How fun is that? You certainly don’t need a smart phone to win this Bible, but that’s just a little bonus for those of you that do own one.
So, who is interested? Listen, if it weren’t for you, Siestas, I would have already claimed it for myself.
Here’s how it will work:
1) Leave a comment with your first and last name. If you don’t leave both, you won’t be eligible for the drawing!
2) For fun, if you’re into this kind of thing, go ahead and tell us in brief your favorite Bible. Shout out to all the Precious Moment’s Bible owners out there! I’m pretty sure I still have that one stowed away somewhere safe. What joy!
Ready? Set? Sound off in the comments! We’ll leave the comments open until 3:30 on Thursday afternoon (CST) and then we’ll do a random drawing and post the winner at the top of this post later that day. That means you will have a little over 24 hours to enter, so be on the lookout to see if your name appears!
Although I don’t want to assume everyone is on spring break, I would imagine most of you are, so if that’s the case, we so hope you’re enjoying every minute of it. And if you don’t get that luxury, I’m praying the Lord delights you where you’re at and gives you an extra dose of rest.
We love y’all!
Ummm, does someone from Canada get to enter for the new Bible? Eh? 🙂 My favourite Bible is my NIV Women’s Devotional Bible, mostly because it was my first – until then I was reading my son’s Precious Moments Bible – for real!! (That should be my favourite because I got saved reading that one – Psalm 51). Have a great day!!
Praying for Beth and Amanda’s trip and God’s blessing on them and to those at the conference. My favorite Bible is the NLT. I enjoy the flow of words and ease to read.
Right now I have the Busy Mom’s Bible in the NIV version which I love……HOWEVER, I think my all time favorite Bible would have to be my Women of Faith Bible. I had it for so long that it was the recipient of some duct tape. (lol Lindsee) There is more of my writing in that Bible than actual text. (that might be a slight exaggeration!) BUT….I am thinking that one day my kids might look at that Bible and smile at some of my comments.
Thanks for keeping the blog going while Siesta Mama is serving the Lord in the future!!!
My favorite bible is the bible that was given to me by our daughter. I used it for many years and it is in tough shape. It is a NIV. I do not carry it to church any more though, now it sits on the nightstand beside our bed. My husband and I read from this bible every morning before we start our day.
Jane Dean My favorite Bible is my NIV Study Bible. I have so many notes and underlines I know what you are saying about getting a new one! Studying God’s Word is just so awesome and it is neat to go back to my notes and see how far I have come in my walk with Christ.
Mylinda Brown – oh how I wish I could post a picture here! I use a NASB study bible now. It was falling apart so just a few weeks ago I went to our ACE Hardware store and got pink duct tape and completely covered every inch of it! NO ONE will be able to pick mine up by accident now 🙂
My favorite Bible is the NIV Bible I purchased at the age of 44 during my first Beth Moore Bible Study- My heart has been opened- Thank you-
Jenna Smith- recovery bible, because it was the first bible I used after I got sober and it will always be very special to me. I am also enjoying the you version right now.
Beth,
I love your studies and would love to try out this study bible! I have bought several thinking they would work for me and then not been able to use them well. I have a smart phone and use the bible app lots of times, so the QR codes on the pages intrigues me.
I too, think I still have a Precious Moments bible lurking somewhere!!
Thanks,
Cari
Jaynie West – my favorite is still my KJV study Bible, but I also like the Quest NIV.
I have a HCSB and I love the translation. Would be awesome to win this one!!!
My favorite Bible is the NIV Life Application.
It’s large print too!
I still use the Bible I was given by my church when I graduated from high school in ’82. I tabbed the pages with where each book begins and the pages are so well worn, but it’s perfect. This awesome Bible you’re giving away would be so cool to use with the bar codes, and it just so happens that I got a smart phone a few days ago, so I’m ready to go!!
Amy Fisher – My favorite Bible is my NIV Study Bible that is getting to be quite worn after using it for several years and going through several different Bible studies. I too, love looking back at my comments and underlining to see where I was at certain times in my life.
My favorite study Bible is NIV Life Application Study Bible. I also love my PocketBible for IPhone by Latidian. It is always with me and I have downloaded multiple versions and love being able to read the same passage with a simple swipe.
My favorite Bible is the one my late husband used, it is a NKJ Study Bible. I enjoy seeing his notes & the revelations God gave to him.
AdeleAlys Spil from Matthews NC. I keep going back to the NKJV Study Bible. I chose it for a Disciple Study because the blue highlighting in my earlier version was easy to read in the dimly lit classroom. Rely on it for insights ever since footnotes on Luke 20:14-21 pointed me in an unexpected direction.
My name is Monica Lockhart and I would LOVE to be entered in the drawing for this Bible! My favorite Bible is the Charles Stanley Life Principles Bible NASB. I too love my You Version app on my smart phone.
Sarah Stinnett
I would have to say my favorite Bible was my first one I was using when I fell in love with God’s Word – The NIV Teen Bible.
Teresa Godwin…..My favorites are my NIV Life Application Study Bible and I also like the New Living Translation.
My name is Judy Winsett Smith. I love the Life Application Study Bible New Living Translation. Thanks for this opportunity!
My name is Michelle Barnett. I have two favorites, one for my daughter and one for my son. They are both NIV and I alternate using them for church, study, etc. I write notes in the margins and will give them to my children later on in life…..not sure when though.
My favorite Bible is my nkjv Open Bible. It is about 30 years old and has no cover. Notes are all through it. I love this Bible. But would love a new one to start writing notes in!
Debi Gerbino – my favorite bible is a NIV Study Bible my dad gave to me on my 18th birthday. A close 2nd is a tiny black covered New Testament bible I got as a small child – and amazingly, I still have it.
What a fun giveaway! Lindsee is right about that Precious moments Bible…i remember it well:) BUT I remember more my John Macarthur Study Bible. My grandmother purchased it for me when I went on staff with Campus Crusade/Student Venture years ago. I taught many lessons to high school girls through that precious bible! Thanks ladies:)

My favorite Bible was the one I used when I first came to the LORD. It was a Gedeon Bible, a little pocket New Testament that I took everywhere with me. I was so hungry for this life-giving word, furiously underlining all the scriptures that spoke to me. I called it my rainbow Bible because I used different colored highlighters to mark it; after a little while, almost the entire book was highlighted in a bright variety of colors.
I still have, and love, the pink leather bible my dad gave me when I was a child. It has my maiden name embossed on the front, which makes it even more special.
I am currently using the NIV Life Application Study Bible, but I enjoy reading from the Holman translation as well.
Holly Lung – My favorite Bible is the app for GLO Bible on my ipad!
Barbara Menefee, Prospect, KY: My favorite Bible is my NIV Life Application Study Bible. I always learn something new. Love you guys!
Hi Siestas! My favorite Bible is the little NIV that I carry with me everyday in my purse. I recently got the Apologetics Study Bible and really like the articles and “twisted scripture” tidbits in there, too.
Terry Detrick — My favorite Bible is the NIV hardback I’ve had since early 1980’s. The binding is all but gone, the 2nd page of the book of John is missing, and it is not pretty. But it is full of notes and dates and highlights and short prayers. That Bible has been with me through good times and bad, and I love it.
I had an Illustrated Childrens’s Bible growing up, but being KJV the only ‘children’s’ thing about it is the pictures. But it has pronunciations for every name and place -I just recently remembered this -which makes complete sense why people are always asking me how to say something. Must have stuck in there somewhere! Other than that can’t do without my Comparative(KJV,NIV,NASB,AMP). Could you give away a smart phone with that Bible? haha Melany Stevens
Kristin Johnson
I have owned a Ryrie Study Bible and most recently I am using the Key Word Study Bible that Beth has mentioned many times. It is very cool to be able to look up the Greek and Hebrew words and get further insight into the meanings of the words.
Neita McGowan – my NAS from 9th grade. Many many years ago
My favorite Bible is my parallel Bible containing KJV, NIV, NLT and one other. It is gigantic! I live comparing the versions. Kristi Hensley
Miquela Hales
My favorite Bible is the NIV study Bible I had during my youth group days in high school/college. It was such a time of growth in my spiritual life. I love going back and reading my notes in those tattered and very worn pages.
I have two favorite bibles!… Sadly one was lost! That one was gifted to me by my mom and dad before i left the country for a year abroad at age 17. My dad has since passed and i’ve wished many times that i knew where it went to between all the traveling and moves 🙁 My current bible is also a favorite, gifted to me by one of my dearest friends on my 23rd birthday. it’s green and reminds me green growing plants!
I love my King James Bible. Most of my memory work comes from that one. I also love my NIV for Bible Study.
Michelle Gills-I have a beautiful dark purple NIV bible that literally saved my life one day. I was headed to class at church down in the basement and fell down the last 3 step to the concrete floor. My bible slid perfectly under my head and kept me from cracking my cranium…Jesus had me:)
My favorite bible is New Living Translation study bible because it is the first one I had after giving my life to the Lord eight years ago!!
Brenda Chase – Good Morning from Tupelo, MS. This is my first post, but I’m certainly no stranger to Siestaville. My very favorite Bible is called “A Walk Through the New Testament”. It’s a one year read with scripture, commentary and a devotional all together in NIV. It’s the Bible I always go to for New Testament reading.
Lisa Patti, Boerne, Tx — my favorite study bible is my NIV Life Application Study Bible but the one that holds a special place in my heart is my New American Standard Bible my dad gave me when I was 13 years old. Now that it is over 30 years old, the pages are falling apart but I keep special mementos and notes in it. I don’t think I could ever part with it 🙂
I struggled between my beloved King James Version and the NIV, since that seems to be the most popular version used today. So I found the ultimate – a KJV/NIV Parallel Bible. I love it! I can still have the KJV I grew up AND the more ‘readable’ NIV for study. Barb Schwarz
Hello sweet community of Christ!
Oh, how I would love a new study bible. My favorite bible is an old King James version that was my Dad’s. He’s been rocking in heaven for 6 years now, but his bible has meticulous notes in his own handwriting. He was very careful…out of respect for the word.
I cannot bring myself to use this one, since it’s in need of some good ole duct tape.
God bless your little hearts~
Linda
Ha Ha about the precious moments bible I am reading Angie Smiths “what women fear” and just read about her experience with her precious moments bible 🙂 so funny!
MARCY STEARNS
My husband gave me my first bible, NLT, when we were dating. Twenty years and several bibles later I am consumed with the never ending riches in HIS Word.
Thank you Lord, for a sweet man of God who follows You!
I have the same Bible that I’ve used since the late 1990s – the Spiritual Renewal Bible. I like using it since I can see what passages were meaningful to me (based on my underlining), but winning a new Bible would be great.
Erin Taylor- my favorite bible has been this small compact bible I got in college. It is a Today’s New International Version. While the pages haven’t fallen out yet, it’s seen better days. I like Lindsee love the markings and highlights that remind me of how far I have come from the bottom of the pit, while first getting to know my Savior. I know that it’s drawing near to trading it in so I can start fresh. 🙂
My favorite Bible is my NASB with wide margins for making notes
