Hi, Siestas! I think I’ve got a fun one! I saw this idea in one of those complimentary airline magazines and showed it to Michelle (who was sitting right next to me) with great enthusiasm and said, “I’m going to do this with the Siestas!” to which she dryly said, “Great, Ma’am.” (I adore her. To say that she has whiplash after going from Washington D.C. to Living Proof Ministries is the understatement of the year. She really doesn’t want to talk a lot about mascara and would not be caught stone-cold-dead in a pair of Capri pants. And never in her entire life has she had to keep a small bottle of anointing oil in her brief case…just in case her boss calls for it. She has also never before had a boss request a photo-shopped picture of herself on a Spiderman costume. A post for another time.)
I’m sorry. I have a little ADD this morning. Back to my idea. It’s not very original but I think it will be a blast. As we’re getting to know one another here in Siestaville, let’s hit the fast forward button. What are 10 things – right off the top of your head – that we would only know about you if we knew you really well? 10 random things ranging anywhere on your personal map that make you a tad distinctive? Or just plain weird? Think quickly. Don’t go for deep. Go for quirky. Don’t try to put them in any kind of order and don’t make them long. Just start typing. I’ll go first to give you the idea.
1. I have an addiction to Ziploc bags.
2. I hate wet socks worse than almost anything.
3. I was the only baby out of 5 born to my mother with no anesthesia. She never forgot it.
4. I wore braces for 12 years. I still often sleep in a retainer.
5. I am a read-aholic. I read over others’ shoulders. I walk the aisle on airplanes to see what others are reading. I read what’s laying on people’s desks during meetings while they think I’m listening.
6. I love Black music.
7. I need slices of cakes and pies to be cut neatly with a sharp knife and not gouged out with a fork. (Nearly just got a shiver at the thought.)
8. My children call me “Doodle.” I no longer remember why. Sometimes just “The Doods.”
9. I am a very slow driver.
10. I’m a go-girl. I love the rush of taking off in an airplane. I smile almost every time.

1. I am addicted to lip balm – Blistex is my balm of choice
2. I like the dishwasher to be loaded a certain way and often unload and reload it if it's not my way.

1. Somehow within the last few years I can’t pronounce things properly. My family and co-workers don’t know if I’m saying “hills” or “heals”. It’s become so embarrassing.
2. I have the ability of knowing things about people or circumstances and don’t know how. It freaks me out and others.
3. Every day I have to spruce up my living room so it looks just right (no cleaning; only fluffing pillows, straightening rugs, etc.)
4. I graduated 11th in my high school class which prevented me from sitting on the stage. It was because of that “B” in Speech. I was terrified of speaking in front of people (still am). 25 years later and it still bothers me. Who knows I probably would have been freaked out to sit on stage too.
5. I’m so terrified of sharks that I’ve never gone past my knees in the ocean. My family loves to torture me during Shark Week on the Discovery channel.
6. I will not share a drink with anyone. Not my husband or kids. I can kiss my husband but can’t bring myself to share a glass he is drinking from – very strange!
7. I use to love to swing on a swing set but since having children if I swing I instantly want to throw-up.
8. It’s rare that I would ever leave the house without at least lip stick on. Even to go for a walk.
9. I iron every piece of clothing I wear (except the unmentionables). Yes, that includes jeans.
10. I have such tiny feet (size 2 ½) that it’s hard to find shoes that fit without bows, sparkles, or lights that flash. If I find a shoe that fits and it’s stylish I just have to buy it. Now it’s an addiction. I’m off to Nordy’s tomorrow to hopefully find a pair of Tom’s that will fit me – this way I can give a pair to another (and not feel guilty).

5. I prefer reruns on tv to the original tv show because my friends, while watching the orignals keep me apprised and so I already know the outcome and wont' be devasted if it breaks my heart. I know its coming.
6. I drink my tea half sweet, half unsweetened. I tell the waiter to fill up the glass with ice, then put in the unsweetened first. Then add more ice and put in the sweet. Then if necessary, add more ice. And yes, I want lemon.
7. I'm so loyal I'm a dog.
8. I collect eye shadows and blushes because I love the soft mineral colors and lots of times I just lay them all out on my bed and look at them and rearrange them to look pretty, but I only wear one color of eyeshadow–cinnabar–and one color of blush–pink petals.
9. I write letters in my head telling various celebrites and politicians how I think they should live their life or make policies. I never actually write them out and mail them but they are quite brillant.
10. I eat my pancakes with only butter, no syrup.

1. I almost died when I was born. Spent a week in NICU and to this day doctors had no idea what was going on. My parents call me a miracle.

4. I like different drinks in different cups…..water or coke in styrofoam w/ crushed ice, OJ in a glass, no ice, coffee in a particular mug. They don't taste as good if I don't do this!
5. It drives me nuts to hear my husband chomping loudly on crunchy foods like breakfast cereal or potato chips!
6. I love to read and usually have 2 or 3 books going at the same time.
7. I can't lay down & read or I'll go to sleep….no matter what time of day it is.
8. I am a hair twirler…can't stop!

10. I have to fluff my pillow a certain way every night and have to bring it with me if I spend a night away from home.

1. I learned to read when I was 2 or 3, no one is sure. But I was simultaneously potty-trained because my mom said if you could read a street sign and say "Mama, you need to stop at Target because we are almost out of diapers," then you are old enough not to need said diapers anymore.
2. I don't like coffee as much as I like the ritual of coffee. By the time I put in cream and sugar it should be a light beige.
3. I am awkward when people cry and make a fast getaway.
4. I am an instigator. I sent my foster child to soccer practice on a mostly Jewish team wearing a Palestinian soccer jersey, and chat to him in Arabic. I am white. He is Congolese. Neither of us is Palestinian. But the faces were priceless.
5. I love 80s/90s hip-hop. LOVE it. "hip hop hippie to the hippie to the hip hip hop an' ya don't stop…"still get a shiver remembering being a little kid and hearing that the first time.
6. My favorite book is Anna Karenina and I read it every year.
7. I hate Christian fiction. Oh, my, I hate it. (Also, CCM.) You want Christian fiction, you read Tolstoy or Dostoevsky. I am absolutely a literary snob.
8. I am never not wearing a push-up bra. I don't care if I'm spending the day in sweats and a T-shirt, there's probably a push-up bra under it.
9. I don't know how to cook and am afraid if I learn, people will start asking me to bring more than a bag of ice to parties.
10. I didn't wear makeup or dress up, at all, in high school or most of college because I wanted to be taken seriously. By about 25, I decided if you couldn't take me seriously with a little bit of makeup, it was your problem, not mine. Now I am a Sephora fiend.

1. My silverware HAS TO BE SORTED in the dishwasher. AND my silverware must be neat once it is put away.
2. As OCD as I am about the Silverware, our bedroom closets are ridiculous. MESSY.
3. I move furniture around monthly (that was already told here, but apparently, it's a little odd!)
4. Sometimes, I purchase shoes in the children's department.
5. I'm a sniffer. I sniff Bibles at LifeWay everytime I go in.
6. We homeschool our girls. I feel like I'm learning more now than I did when I was in elementary!
7.I STILL hate math.
8. I am HORRIBLE at hair and make-up. I really need an intervention there. 🙂
9. After our recent Disney trip, I've decided that next March I'm going to run the Disney Princess 1/2 marathon. This is huge for the girl who doesn't like to sweat and currently thinks Wii Fit plus is a good workout! Guess I'm going to be on the hunt for a good sport's bra!!!

1. I called my husband by the wrong name on our first date. I had a crush on him for sure, but couldn't remember his name!
