Hi, Siestas! I think I’ve got a fun one! I saw this idea in one of those complimentary airline magazines and showed it to Michelle (who was sitting right next to me) with great enthusiasm and said, “I’m going to do this with the Siestas!” to which she dryly said, “Great, Ma’am.” (I adore her. To say that she has whiplash after going from Washington D.C. to Living Proof Ministries is the understatement of the year. She really doesn’t want to talk a lot about mascara and would not be caught stone-cold-dead in a pair of Capri pants. And never in her entire life has she had to keep a small bottle of anointing oil in her brief case…just in case her boss calls for it. She has also never before had a boss request a photo-shopped picture of herself on a Spiderman costume. A post for another time.)
I’m sorry. I have a little ADD this morning. Back to my idea. It’s not very original but I think it will be a blast. As we’re getting to know one another here in Siestaville, let’s hit the fast forward button. What are 10 things – right off the top of your head – that we would only know about you if we knew you really well? 10 random things ranging anywhere on your personal map that make you a tad distinctive? Or just plain weird? Think quickly. Don’t go for deep. Go for quirky. Don’t try to put them in any kind of order and don’t make them long. Just start typing. I’ll go first to give you the idea.
1. I have an addiction to Ziploc bags.
2. I hate wet socks worse than almost anything.
3. I was the only baby out of 5 born to my mother with no anesthesia. She never forgot it.
4. I wore braces for 12 years. I still often sleep in a retainer.
5. I am a read-aholic. I read over others’ shoulders. I walk the aisle on airplanes to see what others are reading. I read what’s laying on people’s desks during meetings while they think I’m listening.
6. I love Black music.
7. I need slices of cakes and pies to be cut neatly with a sharp knife and not gouged out with a fork. (Nearly just got a shiver at the thought.)
8. My children call me “Doodle.” I no longer remember why. Sometimes just “The Doods.”
9. I am a very slow driver.
10. I’m a go-girl. I love the rush of taking off in an airplane. I smile almost every time.

1. I don't like chocolate very much – like at all, unless it is milk chocolate with peanut butter (Reese's)
2. My husband talks more than I do – which is saying a lot!!!
3. I will not drive in severe weather. – ditto with Amanda on the tornadoes.
4. I love to sing – no one knows but my kids.

6. I have a Bachelor's in biology and I struggle with knowing my right from my left. my husband loves this one 🙂

8. I am supposed to wear my retainer every night.

10. And finally, I have allergic reactions to makeup – so I don't wear it.

1. I am addicted to this blog. Never did one before SLI. Noticed how many things I have in common with so many others.
2. Was bitten by a monkey when I was 8.
3. Would love to have enough hair to put in a pony tail. This is one place you don't want to be thin.
4. Claim to be the only English major to ever graduate without writing any kind of paper in English (other subjects, yes)
5. Addicted to HGTV and any other shows like it. My daughter is a designer.
6. Do love driving fast, but only out in the middle of no where–don't do it in traffic.
7. Have a dog out of the "dweeb" breed. He cracks us up.
8. Want things organized and clean but am too unorganized to get anything done.
9. Have decided that sitting in front of a piano and wishing the ability to play would wash over me isn't going to happen. Can't make both hands work at the same time.

To Terri Lynn at 11:17, I'm so sorry your Mom died this week. Of course you miss her terribly. But you said she went home to be with Jesus and for that we are praising the Lord with you now. My mom and aunt died on the same day (March 22) 16 and 3 years ago, so Monday was a hard day of remembrance especially because we went to our friend's funeral. But we can totally rejoice that we will see them and Him one day. Grieve well, sister. Those tears will come when you least expect them, but He will wipe them away one day forever! Praise Him that she knew Him!

1) I LOVE to cook and bake and make NEARLY everything from scratch.
2) I collect two things – books and dust. I try not to hang onto the latter, though 🙂
3) I was born with a book in my hand and you can rarely find me without one.
4) My son was also born with a book in his hand – probably the reason for the need of a C-Section 🙂
5) My husband and I are taking our son to AZ next week for a college visit.
6) I am this side of terrified of flying. I will beg doctor for Valium as driving 34 hours from OH to AZ is not an option.
7) I know the Lord has asked me to be transparent so I've made the painful decision to go gray gracefully. I've hidden behind a lot of things over the years, but no longer my hair color.
8) I've had braces, rhinoplasty, and Lasik surgery. If I had the money I'd do the first two over again as LOL! my teeth were overcorrected and they can truly be likened to bunny teeth – sigh… and my nose still has a bump on it. Unfortunately (said with tongue in cheek), my husband is not bothered by those things.
9) I insist that there are more than 60 seconds in a minute or 60 minutes in an hour and then wonder why I run late to so many things.
10) I sometimes forget Beth is not my personal best friend – I talk about her all the time.

I adore your ministry and have been blessed by your teachings. I know your heart belongs to the Lord. But please do not use the term "black music". It may confuse those that are still growing in the faith to assume that if a black person sings it then it is black music. Music has no color. As you know, God does not see color. He sees his children utilizing their gifts to glorify Him.

2. As evidenced by #1, I have a dash of OCD. =)

1. I hate to use a wood stirrer at Starbucks to stir my coffee. (It hurts my teeth like fingernails on a chalkboard.) I use the straw instead.
2. I was born feet first. I used to be a cross-country runner.
3. I cannot get into any bed without doing “bed-check” for spiders. (My husband hates it in the winter & I've never seen one yet.)
4. I write things on a calendar every day. It is my “day planner”. I love to mark off the days.
5. I can’t stand to throw food scraps in the trash. Instead I have a compost pile.
6. I can write with both hands.
7. I always reconcile my bank statement to my check book to the penny.
8. I talk baby-talk to my cat.
9. I’ve had 4 permanent teeth pulled, not counting my wisdom teeth and you can’t even tell. I’ve never had braces either.
10. I love politics.

3. I don't have a computer at home.
4. I have a track phone and can make 120 minutes last a year.
5. I love to travel.
6. I would love to live in Italy in the country in a comfortable cottage with breathtaking views, and cook, read, study the bible, and paint.
7. I have no problem being in my peepers with no makeup all day on some Saturdays watching movies. BALANCE !

10. I love my family and am so grateful to still be enjoying my parents who are 84 this year.

1. I have been a K-3 teacher in the public schools for 35 years, and in many ways have never "grown up".
2.I cannot stand to read directions- would rather plunge ahead and break it and buy another one!
3.I wanted to be an actress on soap operas when I grew up.
4.Or- an artist. I always re-worked the church bulletins as a child and left them on the pew, hoping I'd be "discovered".
5.My favorite part about teaching are the art projects and the plays that we have done!
6.How my hair looks can make or break my day! (until I forget about myself- easy once I get with 19 self-consumed 5-year-olds!)
7.I can only listen to upbeat or uplifting music- any other does big emotional numbers on me.
8. I would rather do the yard work any day over the housework.
9.I love to read historical novels set in WW2 Germany.
10. As much as I love being with friends and family, I also greatly enjoy being by myself. (Good thing- I have been single now for the past 12 years)

8. I'm the only person in the world, other than my cousins, to have a Nandaddy! I came up with it! So I've got Nanny and Nandaddy!

1. I've never liked PB&J sandwiches, and never will. I only just got accustomed to the idea of peanut butter.
2. My favorite job *ever* involved “pulling cable” on construction sites.
3. My favorite hobby is cliff jumping, even though i am a terrible swimmer.
4. My eyes are a mix of 4 colors, as is my hair – naturally.
5. My entire family has an additional coccygeal vertebrae (Co5) or "tail" as we lovingly call it.
6. This doesn't account for my abnormally long torso that is 55% longer than the average female torso length. Finding a fitted shirt is nothing short of a myth to me.
7. I once slammed on the brakes, to back up one street, and stop a dogfight – yelling at them, "Shame on you! Go home." …in my brother's neighborhood. with witnesses. …like it was a normal thing to do.
8. I started liking the color pink at the age of 30, having been averse to the color my entire life, up to that point. (still a no-go on hot pink)
9. I cannot braid or "style" hair to save my life. It's either a ponytail or long & free for me, although my heart’s desire is to wear my hair braided – every day.
10. You know the scene in Madagascar 2, where King Julien throws his hands up during the crash landing? …I admit to doing this once on a trip with my [mortified] husband, when we encountered turbulence – and have secretly battled the urge to do so, every time since. It was very liberating.
