Hi, Siestas! I think I’ve got a fun one! I saw this idea in one of those complimentary airline magazines and showed it to Michelle (who was sitting right next to me) with great enthusiasm and said, “I’m going to do this with the Siestas!” to which she dryly said, “Great, Ma’am.” (I adore her. To say that she has whiplash after going from Washington D.C. to Living Proof Ministries is the understatement of the year. She really doesn’t want to talk a lot about mascara and would not be caught stone-cold-dead in a pair of Capri pants. And never in her entire life has she had to keep a small bottle of anointing oil in her brief case…just in case her boss calls for it. She has also never before had a boss request a photo-shopped picture of herself on a Spiderman costume. A post for another time.)
I’m sorry. I have a little ADD this morning. Back to my idea. It’s not very original but I think it will be a blast. As we’re getting to know one another here in Siestaville, let’s hit the fast forward button. What are 10 things – right off the top of your head – that we would only know about you if we knew you really well? 10 random things ranging anywhere on your personal map that make you a tad distinctive? Or just plain weird? Think quickly. Don’t go for deep. Go for quirky. Don’t try to put them in any kind of order and don’t make them long. Just start typing. I’ll go first to give you the idea.
1. I have an addiction to Ziploc bags.
2. I hate wet socks worse than almost anything.
3. I was the only baby out of 5 born to my mother with no anesthesia. She never forgot it.
4. I wore braces for 12 years. I still often sleep in a retainer.
5. I am a read-aholic. I read over others’ shoulders. I walk the aisle on airplanes to see what others are reading. I read what’s laying on people’s desks during meetings while they think I’m listening.
6. I love Black music.
7. I need slices of cakes and pies to be cut neatly with a sharp knife and not gouged out with a fork. (Nearly just got a shiver at the thought.)
8. My children call me “Doodle.” I no longer remember why. Sometimes just “The Doods.”
9. I am a very slow driver.
10. I’m a go-girl. I love the rush of taking off in an airplane. I smile almost every time.

1. i married my high-school sweetheart (when we were both 19)
2. i speak fluent Spanish (grew up in Bolivia as a missionary kid)
3. i love the sound of frogs at night in the summertime
4. we *always* have to have A&W root beer when we make homemade pizza 🙂
5. my latest pet-peeve is seeing people texting WHILE they're driving (SO dangerous!!)
6. i survived my husband's 14 month deployment to Iraq (without a doubt the *hardest* year of my life!)
7. i have visited or lived in 10 countries
8. i always procrastinate making phone calls
9. i LOVE fruit (can't think of any that I don't like)
10. i am addicted to bargain-shopping (especially clothes!)
1. I LOVE frogs!!
2. I homeschool my 2 boys !! & 16).
3. I can make up a song about nearly anything– much to my oldest son's horror.
4. I could die happy in a watermelon patch!
5. I really don't mind my gray hairs!!! (I've earned every one of them!)

8. I do NOT clean toilets. I live with three beloved males who have taken pity on me.
9. Kinsey, Alabama, still has the best tasting water of any place I've ever lived, in my oppinion.
10. I want to go to Scotland someday.
1.) I like to flick the seams of fabric. Shirt sleeves. Pillow case seems are the best.
2.)If I see a good seam on a strangers shirt, it nearly kills me to not grab it and flick it with my finger tips.
3.)I heat my ice cream in the microwave.
4.)I can't stand to touch velvet. The thought of it makes me cringe.
5.)I sucked my thumb until I was in the 7th grade. I knew it was time to stop when I went to the bathroom to do it.
6.)I love high fives.
7.)When I think of conversations that happened earlier in my day, I sometimes end up repeating them out loud…to myself.
8.)I'm a horrible story teller. It takes me forever to get to the point because I'm so detail oriented.
9.)I have a high pain tolerance.
10.)My sister and I called each other "Boo" way before it became popular among black people. Ha!

I'll do the updated version later as I meander along the chronological path. Seriously, Beth, I want to trace your learning steps.

7. I like to re-read my own writing (not pridefully, of course – thank you So Long Insecurity!) after someone compliments it just to see what it was they saw that I didn't.

6. When I was little I was obsessed with Barbara Mandrell (weird, I know), and last week some lady was talking to me at the store and it was Barbara Mandrell. I temporarily lost the ability to speak.
7. I love fashion and Broadway and I follow the blogs of people in those industries.
8. My mom put me in sports at age four because I had too much energy and now at 33 I've had my knee reconstructed and I have a bad back.
9. I worked in TV News for a long time and have a list of ways I don't want to die because I've seen footage of the aftermath.
10. Been unemployed for a long time. One night around 3am in January I saw my dream job was open. I applied never expecting to hear anything. After seven interviews I'm going to NEW YORK CITY tomorrow as a finalist. I'm thrilled and terrified.
