Hi, Siestas! I think I’ve got a fun one! I saw this idea in one of those complimentary airline magazines and showed it to Michelle (who was sitting right next to me) with great enthusiasm and said, “I’m going to do this with the Siestas!” to which she dryly said, “Great, Ma’am.” (I adore her. To say that she has whiplash after going from Washington D.C. to Living Proof Ministries is the understatement of the year. She really doesn’t want to talk a lot about mascara and would not be caught stone-cold-dead in a pair of Capri pants. And never in her entire life has she had to keep a small bottle of anointing oil in her brief case…just in case her boss calls for it. She has also never before had a boss request a photo-shopped picture of herself on a Spiderman costume. A post for another time.)
I’m sorry. I have a little ADD this morning. Back to my idea. It’s not very original but I think it will be a blast. As we’re getting to know one another here in Siestaville, let’s hit the fast forward button. What are 10 things – right off the top of your head – that we would only know about you if we knew you really well? 10 random things ranging anywhere on your personal map that make you a tad distinctive? Or just plain weird? Think quickly. Don’t go for deep. Go for quirky. Don’t try to put them in any kind of order and don’t make them long. Just start typing. I’ll go first to give you the idea.
1. I have an addiction to Ziploc bags.
2. I hate wet socks worse than almost anything.
3. I was the only baby out of 5 born to my mother with no anesthesia. She never forgot it.
4. I wore braces for 12 years. I still often sleep in a retainer.
5. I am a read-aholic. I read over others’ shoulders. I walk the aisle on airplanes to see what others are reading. I read what’s laying on people’s desks during meetings while they think I’m listening.
6. I love Black music.
7. I need slices of cakes and pies to be cut neatly with a sharp knife and not gouged out with a fork. (Nearly just got a shiver at the thought.)
8. My children call me “Doodle.” I no longer remember why. Sometimes just “The Doods.”
9. I am a very slow driver.
10. I’m a go-girl. I love the rush of taking off in an airplane. I smile almost every time.
OK, Siestas! What about you? What are 10 quirky things we might not know?
1. I eat my 5 servings of mostly organic fruits and veggies each day.
2. To keep all things equal I usually eat the same number of servings of non-organic jelly bellies.
3. Cinnamon jelly bellies are my favorite.
4. I met my husband in the middle of the sea of Japan. (my motto is if your ship doesn't come in hop on a plane and fly out to it baby!)
5. He proposed in Sydney, Austraila.
6. We birthed our first son in the Netherlands
7. We have 4 boys now and this once highly organized person has never been more scattered. (and my mother is highly amused by it…ugh!)
8. I'm easily entertained – a perfect evening would include dinner at home with my family, laughing and sharing each other's day, then enjoying a card game, a book or a movie together.
9. Hours feel like minutes to me when I am playing on Wordsearch.
10. The most treasured part of my day is my time with the Lord – first thing in the morning and the ultimate is when I have at least an hour of child-free (hence question-free) time w/HIM – more craved than that first sip of aromatic coffee (altho they normally go together w/me :))
1. I love to organize.
2. I love to study and read.
3. I love my roles as wife and mother.
4. I love my work. . . nursing.
5. I am afraid of people/crowds. (insecurity?)
6. I am a mother to birth, adopted, and foster children!
7. I use cruise control-or I tend to speed.

9. I fall asleep when I read or watch movies.
10. I usually don't notice people's hair or clothing, but will remember how they felt.
1. I prefer a good book to t.v. anyday.
2. I hate for things to be changed alot.

5. I put things off that I need to do way too long sometimes.
6. I can't go to bed without wearing socks on my feet to keep them warm.
7.I'm a country girl; don't like the city much.
8. I enjoy spending time with my kids even though they often don't think it's cool to hang around Mom anymore especially if their friends are around.
9. When I'm playing cards with my daughter I cannot stand it if she bends them or doesn't keep them neat on the table when laying them down.
10. I'm often shy until I get to know you.
1. My face is extremely oily but my legs are really dry.
2. My husband is 13 years older than me. (We will be married 25 years this July)
3. I do not like to cook.
4. Don't talk to me in the morning until I have had my shower and coffee.
5. I need a new purse but I am so picky that I can't find one.
6. I love people and love to laugh.
7. Maui is my favorite spot to travel to.
8. My sister was murdered by her husband in 2002.
9. Purple is my favorite color.
10. Right now "Mandisa's" music is my favorite and she is really ministering to me through her words.
1. I'm allergic to fragrance in products. Makes me break out like a teenager.
2. My family called me the Bookworm when I was growing up. Read everything, even toothpaste cartons. I was constantly getting in trouble for reading at the table.
3. The taste of plain water makes me want to throw up.
4. When I was pregnant, the thought of grilled chicken also made me want to throw up.
5. On our wedding night, I snored so loudly that my husband wondered what he'd gotten himself into.
6. My first language was Spanish. I learned to speak English in kindergarten, and now don't speak much Spanish.
7. My favorite movie is the Colin Firth version of Pride & Prejudice. All five hours of it.
8. Sometimes when I leave the house, I'm afraid it burned down. Then I'm really happy to see it standing when I get home. I used to even call the house number to make sure the answering machine picked up. Very OCD of me.
9. My husband calls me his Research Queen. I love to research things and think that the Internet was the best thing ever invented. Thank you, Al Gore.
10. I love it when my baby boy bounces up and down in his crib when I go to pick him up. We call him our little monkey.
1. I have never colored my hair and don't have any gray hair. (47 years old)
2. I have a pathological fear of snakes!
3. I have a sinful addiction to People magazine and Diet Mountain Dew.
4. I get choked up every time I hear the national anthem since my son is a soldier.
5. I can't stand teenagers who refuse to stand up to say the Pledge of Allegiance.
6. I make a delicious dessert from Oreos and cream cheese called Truffles.
7. I love pugs – one named Lily is snoring at my feet.
8. I can't stand snooty people.
9. I love vanilla wafers.
10. I have had four bowel obstructions in a year and am having surgery tomorrow morning to put a stop.

I prayed for your dad Bruce, that part of your list made me cry. I love that you ask anyone to pray for him. I so pray I'll see him in God's Kingdom!
1. My two children are 13 months apart (currently 4 and 3).
2. No, we didn't plan it that way. Who in their right mind would??
3. Yes, they are pretty much best friends, and I can't imagine it any other way.
4. I have a running list in my head of the top 5 foods I would bring if I were on a deserted island, and I will often ask my friends for their list.
5. I am a huge sports fan.
6. My son and I compete for the biggest sweet tooth in our house. I'm winning so far only because he hasn't figured out how to reach the chocolate cupboard.
7. I am not a morning person….at all.
8. I once drove a riding lawnmower up a pole when I was 11. My family has never let me forget it.
9. I love doing any sort of puzzle – jigsaw, sudoku, word searches… you name it.

1. I am 23 years old and shamelessly still addicted to American Girl dolls. I got the newest addition 1 year ago.
2. My parents are English and I often wonder what life would've been if we moved back to England.
3. I LOVE office supply stores. Major exercise in self-control.
4. I switched to going by my full name "Lorna Beth" when I went to college.
5. I tweeze my eyebrows at least 4 times a week. Usually daily.
6. I begin listening to Christmas music in July since it is officially closer to the Christmas coming than the one that has just passed.
7. Actually, that's when I'm okay with telling people I'm listening to Christmas music. I sneak it in all times of the year.
8. I plan for about a month before I get my hair cut – sometimes more. This includes extensive photo research on exactly how I want it. I usually bring a minimum of 4 pictures to show my stylist. I prefer screen captures from TV shows etc over still photos since then I can get the hair from all directions.
9. I would generally delete that last comment in fear of it sounding far too vain, but this is supposed to be random. Can you tell I'm in the middle of this planning process?
10. I eat oranges for dessert. One friend (Siesta Candice) insists this does not really qualify as dessert.
Oh yea! Fun-ness! 🙂

8. I'm an indecisive middle child – as is my darling hubby, and we both avoid conflict!

10.I love to travel but struggle with excruciating ear pain when descending in an airplane – thank God for "ear-planes" and my mission trip prayer partner who called the night before we flew to Belize to suggest them to me!

10. I love to read but start too many books and take forever to finish — right now 7 books have book markers in them!
1. The house has to be picked up before going out anywhere.

10. I was laughing at a cook out once, and a bee flew in my mouth. I began to choke so my dad did the Heimlich Maneuver on me. Half came out and the other half didn't.

9. I rarely see a commercial- everything we watch is taped to DVR and watched later.

I love this! I think our God made us all so funny and unique. Thank goodness I'm not the only one with habits that deviate from the norm!
1. favorite way to spend time: cranking up my MP3 player and walking on the beach
2. biggest pet peeve: the inserts in magazines that fly out at you when you open up the magazine
3. I wash my hands excessively… yes, they crack and bleed
4. I do not like most names that end in leen with the exception of Colleen…I have a good association with that one. Btw, my middle name is Kathleen.
5. My daughter is recovering from Autism and I think John 9:3 might have something to do with that. She is an adorable 5 year old.
6. My son is 3 and calls Costa Rica, Soaka Reeka, it's pretty cute. His cousins are spending a year there.
7. I have been searching for good Christian fiction. My dream would be "G" rated romantic suspense. Any suggestions welcome.
8. My husband and I met at my friend's wedding, we were both in the wedding party. He was actually a brother of the groom, so we are now sister-in-laws.
9. I clean out my nose with Q-tips… can't use the fingers!!!

This is so fun!!
1. I dropped my keys in an outhouse pit once and had to fish them out with a stick.
2. I have to go to the bathroom at least twice (usually within a couple of minutes from each other) before I officially climb in bed, or else the thought of having to go to the bathroom keeps me from sleeping.
3. I can eat a whole bag of Oreos in one sitting. And love it!
4. I had to look up who the "Duck Commander" was. I had no idea. 🙂
5. I like to pick scabs and eat them. Ahhhh!! So gross, I know!!
6. I don't like exercising at all. But it would sure help to love it after eating those bag of Oreos!
7. We're replanting most of our backyard plants for the third year in a row because I can't keep them alive. I really need gardening help!
8. I don't remember a lick of Spanish after taking it for 5 years in high school/college.
9. I have a collection of at least 30 journals from my life that I have no idea what to do with.
10. I sometimes wipe Brennan's head with a diaper wipe (a clean one) to get his hair in place.
