I know this is so random but I love…

Hey, Darling Things!

I am under the books, studying for our Living Proof Live in Baltimore, MD this weekend. (And if you’re going, I can’t wait to see you and to see what God has a mind to show us. The rest of you please pray for us and we will be the far better for your intercession.) I came to a point in my preparation that I needed to look up a map and my heart did this ridiculous little jump. Why? Because I was about to reach for my Bible atlas…and I love my Bible atlas. I could honestly use it for a coffee table book and thumb through it every afternoon while I drink hot tea and have a Pepperidge Farm Milano Cookie. (Of course, I’m hardly ever at my coffee table in the afternoon, nor do I often get to just sit and drink hot tea and eat cookies, but IF I DID, and if I had neither daughter to amuse me, I’d do all of those things with my Bible atlas.) I don’t know how to explain it. I just love it.

Here it is. I’m smiling as I look at it.

I love things like maps and charts. They bring some organization to the chaotic mind of BTSPTB.

Random, huh? Well, that’s when I thought of you. I thought it would be fun to hear you complete this sentence today:

I know this is so random but I love…

What, Girlfriend? What random, not-hyper-serious thing do you love that maybe a ton of people wouldn’t necessarily love with you? Do tell!

i know this is random but i love that i bought my 22 year old son new sheets, a blanket and a pillow. there is no way for me to hold him as he grieves the breakup of a less than year old marriage, but i imagine just that when he lays down to sleep at night. he’s still my little boy wrapped in my arms and i can take away all the pain with just a hug.

Random but every-time I’m in a store with pretty dishes, I can’t resist picking them up to admire them and have to fight the longing to take them home(No $ to waste and no room to store them!)

Also love the smell of coffee in the morning and the sweet aroma of dinner cooking when I come home in the late afternoon – thank You Lord for Crock-pots!

Adore the sound of my young adults hearty laughter – even more when they invite me to share in the hilarity πŸ™‚

So many more – clean sheets, naps in the sunshine, a fresh notebook,a clean house…
Feeling joy-filled just thinking about all these random loves – Thanks Beth!

It may be random but I love a new shampoo, conditioner, or body soap bottle in my shower. I love the way it looks. It is all clean without the water spots or soap scum. It makes me feel like I am on a vacation. And if I’m really lucky and I get all three new ones at the same time and they are coordinated then I usually clean off the shower caddy and keep glancing through the glass doors every time I walk by. Just thinking about it makes me want to go out and buy new bottles right now…but alas, I can’t because I can’t stand half used bottles under my sink so I’ll just have to use lots to use them up quick!

just a nice storm, the smell of coffee, dark dreary days, the ocean and someone going into great detail about the Bible, something that is hidden to the average reader. Oh and vanilla ice cream. Sorry, I keep thinking of things, I also love stores that sell paper, pens, etc.

I know this is random, but I love looking up the meanings of Hebrew names in the Concordance. God often has delightful surprises hidden in the names. And each time the begats are spoken, they also praise God, for most of their names deal with qualities of God. In the Geneology from Adam to Noah, the names give a salvation message and there is a salvation message hidden in the judge’s names.

    Have a blessed day,

the first really big fall rain. I love listening to it slap against the road and the roof. I love watching puddles and rivulets form. I love seeing the tiny patches of bright sunlight scattered amongst the massive grey clouds. I love standing in it and getting soaked to the bone. I love the earthy clean smell it leaves behind.

But most of all, I love knowing that the first really big fall rain means pumpkin season has arrived. Time for pumpkin pie, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin milkshakes, pumpkin egg nog, pumpkin butter, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin soup, pumpkin bread, pumpkin spice lattes… =)

Whenever I work midnights and get home early in the morning, and it is rainy or otherwise nasty, I like to be kind to my elderly neighbors. I go get their newspapers and take them closer to their homes. (It is always best to know if they exit their homes from their front doors or through their garages.) That way they don’t have to go to far outside to get their papers.
And since I am a single lady, whenever I cook a crock pot dinner or lasagna, I will keep a portion and take the rest to some unsuspecting neighbor.
    It’s just something I do.

    Sparki2003 says:

    Miss Beth,

That sounds like fun ! I love studying God’s Word with you and other Bible teachers, too. [However, I “caught the Bible studying thrill bug” from you, first — during the first group of “Believing God” Bible study gals online in Fall 2002, and then the next “semester”, I finally figured out that you were teaching Bible studies less than an hour away from where I lived at that time, and came to some “live” studies at HFBC in Houston …] And, all of the ladies who came to the Living Proof Simulcast on September 10th in Williams Bay, Wisconsin [including myself] had an absolute BLAST in His Word with you !!!

    Hmmmmmmmmm… Other than that …

    1. I love to help children get excited about learning in new and exciting ways ! [I guess that is why the Lord “called me” to be an elementary school teacher; even though I have only been able to teach as a volunteer in a Christian “Homeschooling and Ministry Center” over the past couple of years ==> too many teachers and layoffs πŸ™ ]. But, I still love teaching them !

One of the ways that I do this is to use a couple of new decks of playing cards, blank mailing labels, and a set of words that the kids need to learn to read, and stickers. Then, I type the words into a mailing label form in large print on a computer, then place them onto playing cards, one by one, then choose about 10 to 12 stickers to put onto the extra cards. I called it “Reading Slap”, since it is played like “Slap J***”, except each player must read the word that he/she picks up before placing it onto the pile. But, when someone picks up a card with a sticker on it, he/she slaps the deck on the table, and gets to take the cards underneath it ! The game goes on until all the cards are gone. And, the “winner” is the one who has the most cards. However, I have found that the older the children get, the less important this part of the game becomes . . .

I have used this game with First through Sixth grade students [5 to 12 year olds] in the classes that I have taught, and they all seem to truly have fun playing my home-made “Reading Slap” games ! Honestly ! πŸ™‚

And, today, I brought the gigantic Sunflowers that have been growing up and over our garage most of the summer to school, and [after trying it myself first at home], helped my students [K4 through 5th graders] harvest the sunflower seeds ! [However, like the tv gurus, I had some sunflower seeds that I had already harvested, pre-soaked in salty water, and dried: ready to go]. So, I cooked them, and we had an extra tasty treat to go with their lunches ! πŸ™‚

It was a bit messy to do in our “lunch-room”, since it has been pouring rain for the past 3 days, but I think they had a great time learning how our God creates sunflower seeds to eat from real, live giant sunflowers ! πŸ™‚

    2. I like to go hunting for “real life treasures”, called geocaches [gee-o-cash-ez] via http://www.geocaching.com . However, I usually only try to find the large, simple ones, but have found a couple of teeny tiny geocache treasures, too. I even created a few large geocaches myself and hid them for others to find !

I learned about this unusual “new” game in 2009 via a short newspaper article . . . And, yes, I have taught this to my students, nephews, cousins, etc. However, you do need to have a special gps unit to go “geo-caching” [gee-o-cash-ing]

    Some random things I love:
*disaster movies (but I do have a too-cheesy limit!)
*putting Miracle Whip on my peas & butterbeans. (When I was 2, my Aunt Sherri put mayo on the blackeyed peas because I wouldn’t eat them. Ruined me.)
*the sound of the wind in the trees (added bonus if I can feel the breeze on my face)
*turtles (because at 5 yrs. old, my daughter heard John 3:16 as “God loves the world so much that He gave us Jesus, and whoever believes in Him will not die, but have Happy Turtle Lives”!! Love it!)
*a capella music (loving Travis’ tweets during The Sing Off!)

    Thanks, Beth. Fun post!

I know it is random, but just like some of you I love office supplies. When I walk into an office supply store, I don’t know where I want to look first: binders, pens, clips, or stationery. I love the scratch of a real fountain pen across paper. I have written all of my memory verses using a fountain pen that my dad gave me before he died. My handwriting improves when I use a real nib! I love using antique dishes…especially Havilland Limoges. They are so exquisite with their floral patterns & gilded edges..SO girly. My mom has a big collection, especially cup & saucers w/dessert plates. She’s always been a great entertainer & has friends over brunch etc. She passed on her passion to me. I love to set a table with many different patterns, as they all look wonderful together.
I will always choose pretty–(why get a plain dishrag when you can buy pink??) even if it costs a little more..it nourishes my soul. I think Jesus is ok w/that, because all we have to do is look around and see how much he loves beauty too!

I know this is random, but I love rainbows and waterfalls. And I am not over stating this. I will hike anywhere if there’s a promise of a waterfall. I have also been known to pull over and take pictures of rainbows when taking long road trips. The best rainbow shot I ever got was actually right there in Texas while driving cross country last year. My husband is such a sweetie to indulge me in pulling over on the side of the interstate with a car full of kids and dogs so as to better appreciate the rainbow.
