Hey, Darling Things!
I am under the books, studying for our Living Proof Live in Baltimore, MD this weekend. (And if you’re going, I can’t wait to see you and to see what God has a mind to show us. The rest of you please pray for us and we will be the far better for your intercession.) I came to a point in my preparation that I needed to look up a map and my heart did this ridiculous little jump. Why? Because I was about to reach for my Bible atlas…and I love my Bible atlas. I could honestly use it for a coffee table book and thumb through it every afternoon while I drink hot tea and have a Pepperidge Farm Milano Cookie. (Of course, I’m hardly ever at my coffee table in the afternoon, nor do I often get to just sit and drink hot tea and eat cookies, but IF I DID, and if I had neither daughter to amuse me, I’d do all of those things with my Bible atlas.) I don’t know how to explain it. I just love it.
Here it is. I’m smiling as I look at it.
I love things like maps and charts. They bring some organization to the chaotic mind of BTSPTB.
Random, huh? Well, that’s when I thought of you. I thought it would be fun to hear you complete this sentence today:
I know this is so random but I love…
What, Girlfriend? What random, not-hyper-serious thing do you love that maybe a ton of people wouldn’t necessarily love with you? Do tell!
I know this is so random, but I love eating almond butter straight out of the jar with a big spoon while standing at the kitchen counter.
It used to be peanut butter, but almonds are better for you, so almond butter it is. And I usually keep the carb consumption low so I can indulge in half a jar of almond butter for a meal from time to time, er, day to day, without hurting myself. ๐
I know this is so random but I love to pick a new color pen or pencil at the start of a new bible study. When I’m reading my bible I can see a particular color and instantly remember the study and things I learned. I love it.
Me too!
I do the same thing!!!
I like lights, year round – the little white ones. Lights in vases, in fake trees – ANYWHERE I can put them inside the house.
Karen, I resemble that! Puts a smile on my face and peace in my heart!
I know this is so random but I love…
writing my students names in my grade book at the beginning of a new term. They sit in groups at tables and I color coordinate each group. Also, the scent of play-doh.
I know this is so random but I love…old movies!I especially love old musicals and romance movies! I’m also a sucker for anything that has Julie Andrews in it. ๐
Yes! They just don’t make them like they used to! I saw one with Audrey Hepburn the other day. Black and white, suspenseful without all the pyrotechnics of today. What strikes me most is the way they speak – so articulate! People do not speak like that anymore.
I LOVE the Sound of Music!!
I know this is random, but I love using my computer Print Shop program to create a Bible verse postcard which goes along with the weekly lessons each week in our Beth Moore study for the ladies who are hungy for God. I do not have a creative bone in my body and so I love creating these cards and soaking in the verses as put the cards together.
Would love to see some of your postcards, sounds like fun!
I would love to c ur post cards too!
now this is random, but I love your profile picture, it has me hankering for a trim cappuccino.
i would love to learn how to do that..
Kathy,
Sounds to me like you found your creative bone! What a lovely idea!
I love it when I see a place on television or a picture in a magazine and I can say, “I have been there! I stood right there!”
I love that too and I can’t ever resist saying it if I truly have been there.
I know this is random but I LOVE Sharpie Fine-Point Pens. They can make any handwriting look like calligraphy and you can make tiny little words (i.e. label making) look so neat and pretty!
I do toooo!
I love it when an unexpected, upcoming trip was planned in one day.
My brother and his wife decided to fly to Arkansas. We will be taking a mini vacation to northcentral Arkansas. I am so excited. Another sister who lives in the same town as me will join us!
I attended OBU in the 80’s and I’m wondering if you are my sweet college friend from DeQueen, Arkansas?
I know this is random, but I love me a new bottle of fingernail polish!!! Such a cheap splurge, and it satisfies a shopping craving without breaking the bank!
agree!
I know this is random, but I love watching the entire Director’s Commentary after movies. Geeking out on all the costume/acting/camera angle/set design talk makes me happy. ๐
I know this is random, but I love a smooth writing ink pen…I’m always trying different ones to find the ultimate pen. It just makes me happy!
Me too! I HAVE to find just the right one! LOL!!
I just bought new pens today!
I love to do my Bible Study outside while visit our farm in Central Illinois. I love being in his beautiful and reading his Word!
I know this is random, but my heart leaps up every time I see a picture of the White House and I say to myself, “That’s my house!” NO, I am not crazy and have no plans to ever marry a man who will one day be president or run for the presidency myself (ha!), but just love that house. I did have a serious talk with my son-in-law however, when I found out Michelle Obama’s mom was moving into the White House with them to help care for the girls.
I also love, love, love maps and charts and I love to make my own charts of my calendar and things to do. Like to color code them according to projects, etc. Fun.
Beth – I absolutely love to visit old cemeteries and read the epitaphs. Here are a few of my favorites:
A prison graveyard: “Here lies the body of Lester Moore, shot by a guard with a 44. Now there is no Les no more.” (I hope he wasn’t related to Keith.) ๐ ๐ ๐
On a tiny baby’s grave: “If I was so early done for, wonder what I was begun for?”
Old cemetery (1700s) near the Savannah River: “Sleep on sweet Mother till the trump shall sound.” (I love that one!)
Near my Granny’s house: “She said she was sick.”
I was in Baltimore in May of 2004 for the taping of “The Patriarchs.” I loved you then and I love you Moore. I will be praying.
Your friend, G.J.
P.S. Another random thing I love to do is weave stories about people while I’m sitting and waiting…my friend Lanie and I do that and we entertain ourselves silly. Even if we’re just sitting in the car waiting to go in Hobby Lobby…we’ll do it about the people in the parking lot.
“She said she was sick” Yes, I guess so. Laughed so hard, I scared the dog! You’re a mess ๐
GJ, I do this! I’m always making up stories about people. Sometimes when I’m waiting in a parking lot with my kids, I’ll make up imaginary conversations between the people walking by. We crack ourselves up. ๐
Luv cemetery epitaphs, too!!!
North Palm Beach, FL
I know this is random, but I love graph paper….all sizes of graph paper. I even use 3 x 5 cards with a grid and those come in all sizes, too!
I LOVE eating the soft, almost melted ice out of a (unsweetend) tea that I just drank!!! (And I PROMISE I don’t do it around anyone because I know so many of you are cringing as you read that because you hate that sound so bad…which ironically, I HATE the sound of someone else chomping ice too!!!!!)
one more, I LOVE IT when Mama Beth posts a question and the comments come in so fast that you can hardly keep up reading them, and I love to watch them update and read the comments of whoever is doing the updating! You ladies at LPM are the BEST.
And we love YOU!
There must have been a fight in the fryer at our favorite Mexican restaurant last week. Our whole basket of chips was a multi-folded delicious mess!
I know this is so random, but I LOVE finding all the folded potato chips in a bag and eating them first…they taste best…THEY REALLY DO! ; )
Tracy!!! I love this random so much. Those folded chips are the best. YES!!!
I love to find the Doritoes with the most nacho cheese flavoring
I do TOO!! And if they’re double folded, they’re even better!! ๐
Me too! The folded ones have the most CRUNCH! and if you find a TRIPLE folded one – oh, the excitement ๐
Yep! Those are the ones I look for, too! Great random. This is fun!
Me too! My kids are so sweet to always offer me their folded ones ๐
I know this is so random but I love…getting on my Homeschool Tracker and scheduling my homeschool days and driving my kids nuts while I am doing it…brings such joy!:)
I know this is random, but I love the scent of ironing freshly laundered clothes, but its been a while. ๐
I know this is so random but I loveโฆ
notecards! I love to buy them and use them, any kind of stationary really. I have a big collection and love writing letters.
I know this is strange but my favorite dip is bean dip. Give this girl a bag of chips and consider the dip gone. I usually stop when I run out of a portion of chips with some dip rather then all. I figured my body and my family would appreciate this. ๐
Beth & Lindsee: Can I have two? I am LOVING this silly post! I just thought of another random (besides loving cemeteries which I already posted).
STRAWS. I cannot tolerate a skinny straw – I love a big old fat straw, and if it’s RED, I am off the chain deleriously happy! I will ask for extra straws if I run up on some good ones. ๐
Love y’all so much!
G.J., did you know I absolutely cannot drink without a straw? Even at home I have my own stash. It’s crucial to my drinking. I don’t know what I would do without them. Truly!
Me too girl. I handed one back (paper wrapped of course) to the girl in the drive-through at Taco Bell the other day. I told her it was too skinny and I had my own, thank you very much. ๐
Love you!
That just made my day. And that’s why I love you!
Oh, I so get this one! I cannot drink coffee out of my travel mug or a cup with one of those plastic lids without using a straw. Even at Starbucks where they say right on the straw wrapper that they are not recommended for hot drinks – I’m going to use one!
Adrienne
I’m the same way…can NOT drink with out a straw. Totally loled at the ‘skinny straw’ comment, those are the WORST!
i know this is random but i love….thick straws too!! I was going to post i love to buy new purses or wallets and rush home to put all my junk in them! But I had to laugh out loud when I saw the straw post!!
G. J.,
You need to get straws from a restaurant in Springfield, Virginia called The Silver Diner. Great greasy burgers and fries etc but the straws for drinking their milkshakes are large enough in diameter they are like drinking out of a hose! I remember commenting on how big they were that night and they came in all kinds of different colors to collect. Ours from that night came home on the plane with us. LOL!
Ann –
You were in my backyard when you were in Springfield! If any of you are desperate for Silver Diner straws, let me know. They are hefty. And there’s a Silver Diner not 2 miles from my front door. The chain is all over the Wash,DC suburbs.
Starbucks has the best straws… I love them… and the paper is SO easy to take off ๐
I love cats. I think they’re hilarious. I also love log cabins and free t-shirts. I’ll even run a race (and pay for it) to get a “free” t-shirt.
I am 20 and I LOVE the Dr. Oz show! I’m learning to supress the urge to inform everyone I know of the health facts of the day I learn from his show! haha
I know this is random, but I love Sugar Babies! They just make my day sometimes!
oh yes! and milk duds!
Raisinets! With popcorn. Oh yes.
so funny, was reading this and thought..oh I love milk duds too…and just remembered that I was given a pack at a women’s retreat this weekend…guess where I am headed:)
Funny. I bought a box of Sugar Babies and a box of Milk Duds just today. At any time, I can grab a couple of Babies and/or a couple of Duds and, voila! Sweet tooth satisfied.
Don’t forget the Skittles!!! (Beth, just watched Session 2 of A Woman’s Heart!)
I know this is random but I love a perfectly clean and tidy kitchen counter!! This is very difficult to accomplish in a home with 4 teenagers!
I LOVE that too – seems like we so rarely have a counter without at least a couple glasses on it if not several little piles of papers and other clutter someone plunks down ๐ I think besides seeing Jesus face to face, the best thing about heaven will be no separation from people we love and no worries about having to clean up the clutter before we can visit with them ๐
I know this is so random but I loveโฆa soak in the tub with a good nonfiction book. I had my husband put a rubber grommet in the overflow spout thing so I can fill it all the way to the top and put my ears under the water to drown out my wonderfully crazy house noise for a few precious moments!
( I too am a homeschool momma, Heather) ๐
Hey, it’s my friend Joelle!! I may need one of those rubber things for my tub! Sounds awesome! ๐
Hey Sarah,
Weren’t you trying to sell a house in Texas months ago? I never heard if you did, but I prayed for your house to sell. I’ll watch to see if you reply to this post, because I know this is so random, but I love it when I find out God answered prayer for someone I prayed for!
Hi! ๐
I love coming home after a long day, rain hitting the tin roof, my feet killing me from too cute shoes……running into my closet slipping in to some comfy draw string pants, big t-shirt and slippers. Then putting on a pot of whole kernal pop corn to pop on the stove. Having both my girls 16/18 snuggle in beside me to watch a good movie together. Of course this usually only happens when my sweetie is out hunting/fishing. I try not to tromp around too much in my s-t-r-e-t-c-h-y pants in front of him.
I know this is so random but I loveโฆ getting my kitchen counters cleaned off, wiped off, feeling like there is a sense of order in my home, starting there! ๐ (The rest of the house might just be a mess…!)
Me too…..my house is actually quite a mess right now…guess I should get busy and clean off those counters! ๐
That is sooo me! If my kitchen counters are cleared off and clean I feel as if my life is in order. Also, taking a day off work to clean my house from top to bottom is therapy to me! Yes, it does take a whole day! ๐
I know this is so random, but I love….laughing with my sistas” so hard that I cry!!!
i love to make grouchy old people laugh
I love elderly people. The grouchier the better! There’s something so humorous yet lovable about them! I can’t make them laugh though. That’s a precious talent!
I know this is random, but I love knowing how many of my fellow Siestas share my love of office supplies and pens, a good fountain drink with what Jill called “rabbit terd ice”, and a good smell. So many of us love a smell of our hard-workin’ husbands that it kind of makes me want to cry. And I love to throw on my fleece pullover and comfy house shoes and curl up in my overstuffed chair with a good book. Guilty pleasure.
Loved your entry and couldn’t agree more…but the “rabbit terd ice” comment nearly cost me my (poorly timed) drink of diet coke! LOL ; )
I LOVE office supplies too! Staples is like a candy store ๐ I ate so much ice during my 4 pregnancies (the small “rabbit terd” ice as you term it;) or crushed ice I broke a filling and had to have a root canal! I Love crunching on ice!
I know this is random, but I love reading the Sunday paper in a certain order: first I look at the back page of the comics because that’s where the Hobby Lobby ad is-gotta see what’s on sale- then the Lifestyle section because it has the weddings, then the Zest magazine. Then I sort through the ads for the ones I want to read and go through those before I read any of the news sections.
I know this is so random but I love… wearing flip-flops all year round! Even when it’s snowing outside, I have to wear them around the house!
See you in Baltimore this weekend, Beth! So excited I can hardly sleep at night!
My random love?
Having the house to myself and singing and dancing to my tunes with no one to see me.
I love geography. Seriously. I took a Biblical geography class at my church offered by the author of your favorite Bible Atlas. It is a most valuable resource and the class helped the Bible seem even more alive to me.
I know this is random but I love The Little Lighthouse in Tulsa Oklahoma! Today was my first day to volunteer and I cannot begin to describe this TRULY AWESOME work of God!
To serve preschoolers with special needs in the Tulsa area with absolutely no cost to their families – letting the Light of Jesus shine unabashedly – oh, what’s not to love???
I love this post. This is so much fun. I thought of a couple of other random things I love. I love a warm southerly breeze in the night. I also love the smell of King B chewing tobacco. It reminds me of my grandpa. I sometimes pick it up in a store and smell it. Isn’t there some kind of scientific proof about smells bringing back memories? And especially in women?
I know this is random, but I love the smell of warm milk. Warming milk to make hot cocoa is just the best. Looking forward to a refreshing weekend in Baltimore!!!!!
The wind, I love being in the wind.
Me too Susan, especially if it is warm out.
I know this is random but I love…the smell of sunscreen. It reminds me of the lazy days of taking my kids to the pool nearly every summer day.
I know this is so random but I love…cutting out comic strips that have me convinced there are hidden cameras in my house (or the houses of friends and family), (or maybe wiretaps in my car or favorite restaurants). I really love to give them away to the person they made me think of so we can share a laugh together.
Georgine, my mom used to do that all the time. She would tape them to our doorframe at home. Now she just keeps them and gives them to us when we go to her house! I love that!
I know this is random, but I love drinking ice water through a straw. It is the best way to drink water, in my opinion. Especially on a hot day. ๐
I love to watch T.V. in another language … for some reason I don’t have to think as hard even though I have NO IDEA what they are saying!!!
P.S. I also love the smell of freshly sawn lumber…
I know this is so random but I loveโฆ root beer floats (with CHOCOLATE ice cream!) on a Friday night at home with my amazing husband (and my grown girls if we have the wonderful gift of a visit!).
I know this is random, but I love scraping the outside of ice cream when it’s getting all melty, the sound of rain on our metal barn roof, and the trees on the hill all aglow when the sun peaks out as it’s setting. “These are a few of my favorite things…!) ๐
