Hey, Darling Things!
I am under the books, studying for our Living Proof Live in Baltimore, MD this weekend. (And if you’re going, I can’t wait to see you and to see what God has a mind to show us. The rest of you please pray for us and we will be the far better for your intercession.) I came to a point in my preparation that I needed to look up a map and my heart did this ridiculous little jump. Why? Because I was about to reach for my Bible atlas…and I love my Bible atlas. I could honestly use it for a coffee table book and thumb through it every afternoon while I drink hot tea and have a Pepperidge Farm Milano Cookie. (Of course, I’m hardly ever at my coffee table in the afternoon, nor do I often get to just sit and drink hot tea and eat cookies, but IF I DID, and if I had neither daughter to amuse me, I’d do all of those things with my Bible atlas.) I don’t know how to explain it. I just love it.
Here it is. I’m smiling as I look at it.
I love things like maps and charts. They bring some organization to the chaotic mind of BTSPTB.
Random, huh? Well, that’s when I thought of you. I thought it would be fun to hear you complete this sentence today:
I know this is so random but I love…
What, Girlfriend? What random, not-hyper-serious thing do you love that maybe a ton of people wouldn’t necessarily love with you? Do tell!
Enjoyed reading many of your entries. So many of them are very CHEAT or FREE things we love. So, here’s mine and I hope at least one of you tries it! I know this is so random, but I absolutely love laying my fluffy, duvet out on the back deck to soak up fresh air and sunshine! Even in the middle of winter)! You can do it over a porch chair or railing too. Any sunny day will work. It is an amazing sleeping experience to crawl into clean sheets and a freshly sun-soaked bedspead. LOVE IT!! You gotta try it! ๐
Oh…sounds lovely! I love clean sheets! (I just posted that below then read your entry!) I will have to try hanging my comforter outside! Thanks for the tip!
….to time myself doing random things in order to beat myself. seriously, this is bizarre and hard to explain. i will count steps to places when there is two or more ways to get there to see which way is faster. but before i do, i bet myself which way is faster and then celebrate internally if i was right. i like to time myself when driving a certain way (if there are other ways)to see which way is faster and say (completely joking to get a laugh) “in your face other me” if i win.
ridiculousness.
I know this is so random but I dearly LOVE to hear the little “clink” of a teacup on a saucer!!! Oh…and also the click/swish of the shutter on a professional style camera! Sounds are so important!
Thanks for letting us Siestas get to know each other a little better in our “random-ness”! ๐
Marilyn…in Mississippi
…watching the hummingbirds, blue birds, red birds and all the other birds crowded around my bird bath and feeders and coloring, yes coloring!
This is so random, but I love getting a great deal at a garage sale!! And I have gotten SO many. (It was difficult to keep it to just one thing.)
SALSA! Nothing fancy about that but the TRUTH!
I love the smell of the leaves on the ground in the fall!! Especially in the early morning. It reminds me of my first days of school!
Can I change it to something that is random, but I totally get annoyed by? I get seriously upset if anyone puts up any Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving is over. You can put up Christmas decorations (lights, tree, etc.) the day AFTER Thanksgiving but NOT before! ๐
I know this random but I love To bake something yummy for my family and watch them enjoy it
COOL!! I will be there in Baltimore Beth, with 17 other sisters from my church! We are all eagerly anticipating what God has to say to us through you!
I know this is so random but I love the dry, sweet smell of a Rocky Mountain pine forest. The Rocky Mountains are my favorite place on earth, and that smell says HOME to me.
I also love cuddling my chickens. Especially my Buff Orpington rooster, Chunky. (I’m pretty sure he’s a boy…)
I love the sun (especially The Son). I love to take my coffee out to my deck and while it’s still a little cool just sit in my old lawn chair and feel that warm sun. I’m so glad when my ol’ bones start to feel the heat.
I know its random but I love waterfalls.
I shared with a co worker that I was going to a state park that has waterfalls. She paused and said “you mean a water park?” I said no a waterfall. She gave me a look like oooo k.
I guess its no for everyone!
I feel compelled to add one more random thing I love: I cannot seriously start doing my Beth Moore Bible study homework until I have the workbook spiral bound!
I love the smell of a good hardware store! How weird am I?
I just recently discovered that I love nails, the kind you drive into wood…I love getting my hands on a good hardware-kind of project…my Dad was talented that way, but wouldn’t let me mess with his stuff cause I was a girl, but I’m now embracing that I am indeed, my father’s daughter…I was wondering if you might love a good hardware store for similar reasons???
I absolutely *LOVE* the peach fuzz on the side of my 11 year old son’s face. Just at the jaw line, under his ears. My other two boys don’t have it. I could kiss him there all day long and I’ll probably have a breakdown when he gets big enough for whiskers and it disappears. I get teary just thinking about it. *sniff*
I love buying a new book and opening it for the first time!!!I’ll never be a Kindle owner…I just love the smell and the feel of a new book!
I LOVE new books as well. A bookstore is like church to me (oh dear … did that sound as blasphemous as I think?! Oops …) anyway, love love LOVE a bookstore. I want to be a librarian when I grow up. I’m 38 w/ four children. Will need to go back to school (my Marketing degree doesn’t really spell librarian), but that’s what I really want to do. A 20-something LAUGHED IN MY FACE when I told a group at a gathereing that I wanted to be a librarian. She said, “That’s silly! No one even reads books anymore!” Inside, I died a little.
I know this is so random, but I love….
the smell of a freshly sharpened pencil
the smell of coffee (and I don’t even drink it !)
to look at a package of magic markers or crayons with all the beautiful colors lined up and they’ve never been used
…sitting and listening to the soothing sound of a gentle rain while drinking a cup of tea (hot tea to you U.S. folks – we just call it tea in Canada ๐ )
I know I’m a little late responding here- but I had to tell you that this could be a little random, but I LOVE the smell of dirt! Especially in the spring when I’m digging to put new baby plants in my garden…sigh.
Oh – as soon as I hit “submit” another random thought entered my mind…….I LOVE the smell of decaying leaves in the fall when we hike on the trail, etc. Sigh again.
I have a friend who craved dirt while she was pregnant. Even weirded so did her mom when she was pregnant. She actually pulled over the car one day to get some dirt. Haha! It makes me laugh just thinking about it! ๐
I love the weather channel and am somewhat obsessed with knowing what the weather is doing. I also love to read cookbooks. And I love to vaccuum.
I had one more random thought pop into my head – totally unrelated to smells…..this is REALLY random, but I LOVE getting a new Beth Moore Bible Study book and writing my name and year in the front cover. ‘Cause I know all kinds of good stuff awaits!
Kody, Tennessee.
I love putting my babies to bed. I have two; son (4)and daughter (2). The whole bath and bed routine is my favorite part of the day, the smell of lavender lotion and clean faces! They are snug in their pj’s listening sweetly to a story and then a short prayer of thankfulness. The goodnight I love yous are the best! Then the quiet as they sleep, knowing that they are safe in bed, sleeping peacefully. I just love it and sometimes I stay up extra late just to enjoy the peace that fills my heart and our home. ๐
This is so random, but I love…
1. New boxes of crayons
2. I Chronicles (I’m a nut for genealogies)
3.
I know this is random but I love walking or driving through a fresh smooth snowdrift! There’s something satisfying about being the first to slice through it!
….I love the smell of Christmas in my house with the pine scent covering throughout the house….I start decorating a week before Thanksgiving :~)!
I know it’s random but I love….the sounds and smells of fall, especially the sound of walking through ankle deep dried leaves. Crisp air with the smell of wood smoke…..then walking into the house and smelling the apple pie baking in the oven…..
I know this is random but I love to take my pajamas out of the dryer and put them on while they are warm. So cozy!
I know this is random but I love buying new school supplies! Good thing I work at a school!
This is so random but I love…
1. Browsing the bookstore aisles reading the backs of books and deciding what story to get lost in.
2. The feeling I get when I find out I am pregnant and not showing yet…it’s like a little secret between God and I…Even more so after years of praying and waiting for His miracle He has given me.
3. The quietness in the early morning before the house wakes up…just me, my bible and Jesus.
This was a fun post Beth!
Beth,
I will be at the conference this weekend and so looking forward to meeting you. I have done about 6 of your studies and I am thankful for the gift that you have for speaking into women’s hearts. I am going to try and sit in the front and can’t wait to give you a big hug! I will be waiting for the Siesta’s picture taking moment. I am so excited to meet you but I wil try to restrain myself so I don’t scare you.
PS: My husband has that same Bible Atlas and he really loves it too.
Yeah for Baltimore
I know this is random, but I love brightly colored ink in pens! They make me giggly thinking about possibilities of encouragement, love, comfort, and learning in written word that can come out of them! It may be the former teacher coming out in this stay-at-home-mama, but I love pretty ink! ๐ I can’t explain the extra thrill I get when, in my journal, I write my praises in a perky pink, my thanks in a bold orange (Thanksgiving color), about any kind of growing experience I’m going through in vivid green, and all the stuff that is really hard about life in sky blue to remind me that God is bigger than the sky so He is bigger than whatever issue I am laying before Him. Red, I use for easily spotting the verses that He is teaching me about. Just flipping through my journals and seeing the rainbow colors, makes me smile at the reminder of His faithfulness to complete what He has started in me! I do not have artistic talent, but the colors reinforce in me that God, the Creator, has allowed me to be included in the Masterpiece He is creating!
This really moved me…esp. the sky blue part…but to see God’s voice to you in all different colors, like the varying experiences of life…all from the same Hand of love, but in such a rich variety…Thanks for posting!
I know it’s random but I like a new pen to make any writing a little more fun; and I am so inspired by your colored pen journal idea! Lately I’ve been encourage to journal….that is a very creative way!
I know it’s random, but I like new smells….new car smells, new book smells, new home smells, new crayon smells, etc.
I know it’s random, but I like the sound of the music for the NFL season because it means my hubby and I are spending time together watching football.
I know it’s random, but I like to study theology.
THIS IS NOT RANDOM: I’M GOING TO SEE BETH AT BALTIMORE AND I CAN’T WAIT!! COME ON HOLY SPIRIT!!!!!
I know this is random but I love the smell of a freshly sharpen pencil & a new book.
I abosolutely love the way the shadows change and the light comes in the windows differently in the fall! Here in Florida the summer is so long, but I just get giddy at the first glimpses of fall (even if it still is 90 degrees!) I also love clean sheets! There’s nothing like crawling into a freshly made up bed.
I absolutely love the first signs of Fall in Florida, the way the shadows fall and the light comes in the windows differently….it just makes me giddy! The bonus is when you step outside and the air is cool and DRY! It’s gonna be a good hair day! I also love clean sheets!
Hi! ok, I LOVE anything in a “kit” ! crafts,cooking,make-up….ect. even if they are for little kids, I might like those the best! : )
I love a new package of crayons. Now I’m a sophomore in college, and I guess you’d expect for me to be over my childhood coloring book phase, but I’m not. There’s nothing more therapeutic to me than a blank piece of computer paper and a whole new box of freshly sharpened Crayolas. Sometimes instead of having quiet time with my journal I break out the crayons and just draw with the Lord. I write out Bible verses or I make art. But regardless of what I decide to do I love my crayons.
…to go to the library (or to a bookstore) and just look at books. I love to go through each section of the dewey decimal system. I love the smell of books, to feel the pages of books, to read the spines of books. My heart accelerates as soon as I open the door and walk inside.
Office supply stores. I can always find something I don’t need. And they have an interesting smell too. O.k. I can’t decide if that’s random or just plain weird.
My outdoor shower! Some people do not understand this, but it is wonderful! I love everything about it – the smell of the shampoo mixed with the fresh air is intoxicating , the smooth rocks under my feet, the sunlight or moonlight, perfect robins egg blue towels, the way my kids love it. I LOVE it.
I love, love, LOVE the smell of laundry in the dryer and have since I was a young girl. However, the Lord used my love of the smell of fresh laundry to bring about a change of heart! For so many years when my kids were young and I was doing 3-4 loads of laundry a day (my hubby is a mechanic and contributes his own little pile of laundry a day), I would dread doing the laundry each day. It was the task I hated the most. Then one day while complaining about it during my “prayer” (customer complaint is a better term) time, the Lord convicted me of my poor use of my laundry time. Rather than complain about the process of laundry, He challenged me to breath in the freshness that surrounded me and rather than gripe about it all, I should pray (yes, really pray) for my family members as I washed, dried and folded their laundry. This simple discipline of praying while washing became something that I looked forward to as the Lord and I would talk about the things in my children’s lives that concerned me/confused me etc. This became an increasing comfort for me as they began to grow into teenagers and beyond and brought new challenges into my life. Now, when my son comes home from college for a visit, I am more than elated to do his laundry! What college student doesn’t need prayer, after all? And now that my daughter has reach the magically age of 18 and struggles to find independence and freedom, I look forward to praying for her eternal freedom while folding her laundry. I love it!
My random, not-hyper-serious thing I love is new socks–I love buying and wear new socks.
Christina egenhausen: ….POst-It’s!!!!!! Every shape. Every size. Every color but post it yellow ๐
I love to go to TJ Maxx with just my daughter. Since she moved away we have to text pictures of what we like back and forth to get each other’s opinion. Not near as much fun.
I love that on a day that I wake up with a killer head/neck ache, the toilet overflows and the plunger turns inside out while in use, the oatmeal that has just been perfectly dusted with cinnamon and raisins spills all over the floor, and the van has a flat tire, God shows up. AND He brings coffee…..
I know this is random but I love rainbows…
maybe because a comment that my daughter made when she was little, “You know that rainbows are a symbol of God’s love for us!”
I know this is so random but I love the feeling of cleaning out my ears with a Q-tip. It itches just a little and to scratch where nothing else can scratch is like the look on a dog’s face to scratch its ears or other happy spot.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Gal 5:22-23

That’s been my fave Beth Moore study too!!
I know this is random, but I love coming home after work and my girls (my cats) meeting me at the door. They are glad to see me, makes me forget what kind of day I had.
O, I love my kitties, too! Only they are my boys. Two black cats to be exact. They greet me at the door, whoever is closest (they don’t like each other!) and no matter what kind of a day I have had they treat me with respect and love.
Isn’t it wonderful! I have one all black and the other is black and white. They love me no matter what. I am thankful for them, they do brighten up my life.
