Hi, Siestas! I think I’ve got a fun one! I saw this idea in one of those complimentary airline magazines and showed it to Michelle (who was sitting right next to me) with great enthusiasm and said, “I’m going to do this with the Siestas!” to which she dryly said, “Great, Ma’am.” (I adore her. To say that she has whiplash after going from Washington D.C. to Living Proof Ministries is the understatement of the year. She really doesn’t want to talk a lot about mascara and would not be caught stone-cold-dead in a pair of Capri pants. And never in her entire life has she had to keep a small bottle of anointing oil in her brief case…just in case her boss calls for it. She has also never before had a boss request a photo-shopped picture of herself on a Spiderman costume. A post for another time.)
I’m sorry. I have a little ADD this morning. Back to my idea. It’s not very original but I think it will be a blast. As we’re getting to know one another here in Siestaville, let’s hit the fast forward button. What are 10 things – right off the top of your head – that we would only know about you if we knew you really well? 10 random things ranging anywhere on your personal map that make you a tad distinctive? Or just plain weird? Think quickly. Don’t go for deep. Go for quirky. Don’t try to put them in any kind of order and don’t make them long. Just start typing. I’ll go first to give you the idea.
1. I have an addiction to Ziploc bags.
2. I hate wet socks worse than almost anything.
3. I was the only baby out of 5 born to my mother with no anesthesia. She never forgot it.
4. I wore braces for 12 years. I still often sleep in a retainer.
5. I am a read-aholic. I read over others’ shoulders. I walk the aisle on airplanes to see what others are reading. I read what’s laying on people’s desks during meetings while they think I’m listening.
6. I love Black music.
7. I need slices of cakes and pies to be cut neatly with a sharp knife and not gouged out with a fork. (Nearly just got a shiver at the thought.)
8. My children call me “Doodle.” I no longer remember why. Sometimes just “The Doods.”
9. I am a very slow driver.
10. I’m a go-girl. I love the rush of taking off in an airplane. I smile almost every time.
OK, Siestas! What about you? What are 10 quirky things we might not know?
1. Window blinds MUST all be opened at the same angle.
2. I love Pepsi but not out of fountain.
3. I can't drink iced tea through a straw.
4. There is a perfect way to load the dishwasher.
5. I could spend all day watching cooking shows.
6. I empty my grocery cart by category…frozen foods go together, boxed items go together, etc., etc.
7. I like Bill O'Reilly.
8. Hate my ghostly white skin.
9. I hate to hear people stir their drinks with a spoon. I always use a straw.
10. Scared to death of spiders. Like snakes.
I'm sure my husband would come up with a list twice this size. : )
1. I'm obsessed with Q-tips. Putting one in my ear and twirling it around is the best sensation ever.
2. I must have something sweet to eat at the end of dinner or I'm not satisfied.
3. I can't stand to have anyone touch my feet because I'm so ticklish. But I do get pedicures. Go figure.
4. Reality TV is my guilty pleasure.
5. Ground turkey makes me gag.
6. I have a very shy bladder.
7. I can spend hours watching hair and makeup how-to videos on youtube.
8. Name a pop song from the 80s or 90s and I can probably sing it.
9. I have several items in my closet that I've never worn.

9. I am an amazing cook. My homemade bread won a Grand Champion ribbon at the County Fair last year.
10. I have a passion for teaching, especially teaching children the truth of God's Word.
1. i have to blow my nose and cannot sniff. i is disgusting to me.
2. i have to have the bed sheet touching my face at night before i nod off.
3. i have raynaud's disease and it is extremely depressing for this shoe girl! i have to wear wool socks and wool-lined slippers/shoes until the weather hits 70° or my toes will fall off (literally). my husband always asks me before going out are you wearing something warm on your feet or something 'cute'?
4. the outside seam on my pants or jeans is something i always play with to lay the same direction.
5. i wear lip balm EVERY day.
6. for my best friends wedding i had my hair professionally done in an 'up-do' and using too many bobby pins i have a permanent bald patch in the back of my head the shape and size of a guitar pick.
7. i always smile at myself in the mirror
8. i am addicted to reading also. i actually have to remind myself to not neglect my duties at a housewife and mother. kinda sad.
9. i love to exercise, pilates, run, walk, elliptical, etc.
10. i grew up in a religion that i observed all old testament customs. the toughest? probably fasting 24 hrs (no drink or food. not a morsel, not a drop) at a child. no, not bitter, seriously. it is funny now to me. my parents were doing what they thought was right.
1. i love junior mints because you can eat that candy without ever getting your teeth gross and dirty (smash it on the roof of your mouth with your tongue and then swallow)
2. i like being made fun of because i have a big vocabulary
3. lists scare me (like "panic attack scare," so much so that i started to do this post once yesterday and then didn't because it was making me too nervous)
4. i have run 3 half-marathons and i CAN'T STAND running
5. if left alone with no chance of witnesses, i would (honest to Pete) eat an entire box of girl scout "thin mints" straight out of the freezer in ONE SITTING
6. i cannot stand paper with lines on it. i prefer paper with no lines at all, unless it's graph paper. (i know… those are lines! OK)
7. i am ridiculously obsessed with leaves (on my wallpaper border, my clothes, my jewelry (even my engagement ring), my dishes, my linens, etc.)
8. i prefer any other food to "american," especially thai, greek or mexican
9. i am addicted to the old-school b&w photo booths where you get 4 pictures in a strip, and if i could ever find one at an auction, i would probably buy it and put it in my home
10. i just realized after reading this list that i am a total geek
1. I’m most productive in the morning, but DO NOT be happy and chipper with me. NOT a morning person!
2. I need a Diet Coke first thing in the morning.
3. I am totally put off by bad grammar and incorrect spelling. Especially drives me crazy in commercials or print ads.
4. I made my daughter’s wedding gown. She designed it. Doing that together was one of the most precious experiences of my life.
5. I enjoy puzzles – crossword, Sudoku, jigsaw.
6. I love to read books, and my kids gave me a digital reader for my birthday. It's great!
7. I like to read vanity license plates and figure out what they mean.
8. I want to learn photography – especially children. I have 10 grandchildren, and #11 is on the way, so I have lots of beautiful subjects!
9. I hate to shop for myself. When I just have to have something, I will reluctantly go buy it, but it had better be easy to find!
10. Ever since I saw “The Birds” when I was a kid, birds have made me nervous. I’m sure they’re going to attack me.

2. Best memory is waking up in Rome on a Sunday morning, opening the shutter windows and hearing "Ode to Joy" being chimed by church bells.
3. Close second was sitting on the Troccodero steps with my family, eating a Chocolate crepe (with real whipped creme), at 2am watching the Eiffel Tower put on it's light show.
4. Don't like children but love mine.
5. Love General Hospital. Have watched it for at least 40 years.

Your #8 made me laugh. We have called my 5 year old son Doodle since he was a little baby. Although a more proper spelling in his case would probably be "Dudle", because it is a play off the word "dude". I think that's probably the first time I have ever typed it. "Dudle" would be short for "dudle canoodle," and we also sometimes call him "dudes."

The week after she died I came to work with my bed unmade & our cat set off the burglar alarm. My husband met the police at our house – said he tried to assure him everything looked okay – but he insisted on going through the house – THE POLICE CAME & SAW MY BED WAS UNMADE! I don’t even go into the kitchen without making it up now.
3. I am almost 49 years old & not one strand of my hair has even been dyed. Mrs. Clairol may be my best friend tomorrow, but not today!
4. We live in Moore, SC – call ourselves Moorons!
5. I have never had a room by myself – I went from sharing with my sister to a college room-mate to my husband.

7. My dream job is to someday be the “story lady” at the library.

1. I adore childrens books – even have some from my parents' childhood – and hope to write down the ones that are rattling around in my head when I retire.
2. I am an excellent marksman/woman. Surprised my man (and me) by being as good with a handgun as a rifle when he took me out target shooting one day.
3. I'm a chocolate lover but am picky about it– dark but with enough cocoa butter to melt in my mouth easily.
4. Altho' my toenails are bar all winter I know its spring when I start contemplating toenail polish — sandal time is coming!
5. I love linens — a well-made bed makes the bedroom!
6. Similarly, redecorating with pillows is my favorite way to express the change of seasons.
7. I need doors on kitchen cupboards — love the look of open shelves but its not for me.
8. I love long walks with my man – anytime, anywhere, any weather.

1. I totally love Tinkerbell, she is my cartoon alter-ego.
2. I adore children's books, in fact I rarely stray out of the children or young adult section at a library or bookstore even though I am "full-grown."
3. At work I am super-organized and neat but at home I am usually a disaster.
4. I talk to myself and God outloud whenever I am alone.
5. I have a really hard time saying goodbye (even hanging up the phone can be oddly tough.)

I am praying for you (in regard to #7). That stopped me dead in my tracks.
1. I drove from OK to Ohio to see Barbra Streisand.
2. I would be completely OCD if I had the time.
3. I HATE soggy bread – oatmeal and bread pudding make me want to gag!
4. I truly wish i could sing.
5. I never thought i would like having sons – but I truly think it is the best thing in the world! ( I have two.)
6. I haven't been to the movies in almost two years.
7. I'm not a perfect mom – but wish I was.
8. I wish i had to courage to dye my hair RED!
9. I want to go storm chasing one day.
10. Now that the seasons are changing, I have the urge to take my shoes off and run through every green patch of grass I see. 🙂

Okay, I'm gonna shoot for 10, but don't know if I will come up with that many…not because I'm not quirky, I just don't know if I can think of that many right off the top of my head!Here goes…
1. I love to chomp on ice.
2. I am a little claustorphobic, so I have to stick my feet out of the covers while I'm sleeping.
3. I tried pistacios for the first time this week and I absolutely love them!
4. I am an inventory control manager for a jewelry chain, but I don't really care much for jewelry. I only wear my wedding ring and earrings.
5. I have a VERY sensitive sense of smell…that isn't always a good thing!
6. I get "car sick" very easily.
7. I eat my hamburgers, hotdogs, and sanwiches plain…meat and bread only!
8. I play the trumpet, and would love to learn the guitar and piano.

4. I have a chronic illness that forces me to be stuck at home & I MISS shopping so much! Online shopping is just not the same!!
5. I miss going to church too…is it wrong that I listed shopping first?

7. I sold mattresses when I was in college for 1 week. I had to lay down on the bed & demonstrate how they worked. How each side could have it's own firmness and each partner could find their perfect number. The mattresses were not well known at the time & the man would go from town to town demonstrating his new invention. They have a store in every ciy in America now…Select Comfort!
8. My middle initial is D and my first name is Sandra so I have older people always saying to me "Look at me I'm Sandra D" I also get quotes from Grease!
9. I don't know how to swim & I'm scared of water sports because I'm afraid I'll drown…even with a life jacket!
10. I love going to the beach in FL & am so sad that I can't go this winter since I'm stuck at home!
