(Drum Roll Please!)
According to our random drawing, the lucky winner is…Gail Denlinger! (Comment posted on March 15, 2012 at 6:40 am.)
Gail, if you would please email me at [email protected] with your mailing address, we will get this Bible in your hands as soon as possible. Congratulations, Sister! Y’all check back next week for another fun giveaway. Have a wonderful weekend!
Update: Comments are now closed. Ladies, y’all are SO incredibly fun. And might I add serious about your Bibles and Bible translations. Praise the Lord! Check back tomorrow morning for the fun announcement of our lucky winner! And while I have your attention, our Siesta Mama actually gets up to speak at the conference for the first time in about 2 1/2 hours (It’s already Friday there). Your prayers would be so appreciated! See you in the morning!
Good Wednesday afternoon, Siestas!
By now you may have seen on twitter (if you’re a twitter user) that Beth and Amanda made it safely to Sydney! Jet lag is no joke there because in case you were wondering, Australia is 16 hours ahead of us. I kept joking that they were flying into the future. Whoa! You honestly would not waste a prayer on them as Beth and the team prepares to minister to the folks attending the Colour Conference. They are so pumped, but it doesn’t come without sacrifice and a lot of work. If you’ve not already been praying, start praying now because since they’re almost a day ahead of us, the conference begins sooner than later!
Anyway, we didn’t want the blog to suffer while our Siesta Mama was gone, so I’m here to do our first fun giveaway! (Yes, we’re doing another one next week. I know you’re pumped!)
I don’t know about you, but I love getting a new Bible.
In fact, just this past Sunday at church I was thinking it was time to put my old one aside and start searching for a new one. True story. I don’t know how much longer it will actually survive as it is literally falling apart (I don’t say that because I’m so spiritual, but more so to prove to you how old it is) and I don’t feel like digging out the duct tape to repair this one. (You know you’ve done it before, too!) Since I’m a creature of habit, I tend to stick with the same study Bible time after time, but I’m feeling kind of rogue and might venture out this time into the land of the unknown.
As much as I love getting a new Bible, there is a certain degree of separation that is hard to part from my old Bible. We’ve been through a lot. And I love looking back at all I’ve underlined and marked up. But I suppose a new season calls for a new Bible.
Anyway, I know you’re probably wondering why I’m going on and on about my Bible, and maybe I’ve convinced you that you need a new one to, to which I’ll say you’ve landed in the right place!
We have a really fun giveaway that I think you’ll like.
Recently our sweet Beth received a Life Essentials Study Bible (“The First Multi-Media Study Bible”) with her name engraved on the front. For those who are curious, the translation is the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB). Here’s the deal, if our Siesta Mama hadn’t just purchased a new Bible for herself just prior to receiving this one, she would have kept it for herself. It was such a kind gesture from the publisher, but she really wanted to gift it to one our Siestas!
Besides this being a study Bible, it has some other really neat tools that I’ve personally been playing with to make myself familiar with it the past few days.
With our technology changing and updating as quickly as newborn babies change outfits everyday, it’s no shock to me that this Bible has a new addition to it that can be used with your smart phone.
If you look at the front cover (pictured above), and inside the Bible (there’s a little peek below), you’ll see a bar code looking symbol. That nifty little symbol we refer to as a QR code. If you own a smart phone, you can download a free QR Reader app, and then all you do is use that application to scan the bar code to find out more information about that particular item. All throughout this Bible are hundreds of QR codes that take you to a website to find out more information about that particular scripture. How fun is that? You certainly don’t need a smart phone to win this Bible, but that’s just a little bonus for those of you that do own one.
So, who is interested? Listen, if it weren’t for you, Siestas, I would have already claimed it for myself.
Here’s how it will work:
1) Leave a comment with your first and last name. If you don’t leave both, you won’t be eligible for the drawing!
2) For fun, if you’re into this kind of thing, go ahead and tell us in brief your favorite Bible. Shout out to all the Precious Moment’s Bible owners out there! I’m pretty sure I still have that one stowed away somewhere safe. What joy!
Ready? Set? Sound off in the comments! We’ll leave the comments open until 3:30 on Thursday afternoon (CST) and then we’ll do a random drawing and post the winner at the top of this post later that day. That means you will have a little over 24 hours to enter, so be on the lookout to see if your name appears!
Although I don’t want to assume everyone is on spring break, I would imagine most of you are, so if that’s the case, we so hope you’re enjoying every minute of it. And if you don’t get that luxury, I’m praying the Lord delights you where you’re at and gives you an extra dose of rest.
We love y’all!
The Message Bible and NIV. I want to give my son a new Bible with Scripture highlighted for him to read and speak over himself. Riley is 26 and has had seizures since he was 10 months old. He has a diagnosis of autism. But I’m Believing God that Jesus took seizures and autism to the cross. I’m Believing God that Riley will walk away a free man and will live out a normal life with a wife and kids. He will get to drive a car and he’ll have friends! In Jesus’ mighty name!
My favorite was a NIV I recieved in college and although it was several years after college before I really put it to use, it was WELL worn when I had to replace it with the NASB I now carry and is also showing it’s age!
Melissa Strickland
My NIV Study Bible…we have traveled lots of roads and life together. The maps all fell out long ago. Thanks for the giveway opportunity!
Hi, Sweet Lindsee!
My name is Angie Baylis and my very favorite Bible is my Women of Faith Bible. You know, the one with the duct tape on it! 😉
You are doing a great job holding down the fort!
Love you,
Angie xoxo
I have been using a Spiros Zodhiates Hebrew Greek Study Bible for 20 years. Distributed by AMG.
My favorite Bible is my NIV Study Bible.
I Love my Nasb
It has been a goldmine!
Currently, my favorite version is the NKJV
I have enjoyed Holman Standard- recent I have a bad habit of reading the Bible online- and using Bible Gateway a lot and I am noticed that wow- a confession- but flipping through a real Bible in hand I am loosing track of where to find the texts in church- I have to think- so reading the Bible in varying translations online is great- but I need to put a real Bible in hand again and flip the pages open to the text again-
I love the NIV student Bible. I am now 38 years old and still love to read it and the markings I wrote in it as a student @ Baylor.
Rebecca Saiz. My favorite bible is my grandmother’s old black one. It was a Spanish version with red edged pages. She highlighted all her favorite passages. I loved that bible!
My favorite bible is one that belonged to my great grandmother. It’s a King James Version with Roman numerals for the chapters. She had gone through the entire bible with a pencil and changed each Roman numeral to numbers so she could keep up with the pastor when he mentioned a bible passage. As a little girl, I remember watching her sitting in her rocking chair reading it. My favorite bible to study from is my Master Study Bible that my husband gave me in 1983. It’s so worn that I’ve lost part of the pages of Ephesians.
My favorite bible is the NIV Student bible that my twin sister gave to me as a graduation gift.
I mostly use the NIV cause it seems that is the translation so
many of the teachers I study under use, but if I want more insight to
a certain passage I like looking the same scripture up in
The Message or The Amplified Bible!
My favorite Bible to use is the Children’s Ministry Bible in NKJV. I have had it for years and years and it is falling apart! If you work with children, I highly recommend this one.
My name is April Vineyard.
My favorite Bible is my hardback NIV Study Bible that was required for some of my college classes. Still have it 20 years later and cherish it.
I can honestly say that I don’t have a favorite but use my NIV study bible the most.
Michelle Vasquez – my favorite Bible is a Names of God Bible that I got. I love studying the names of God!
I really like my NIV/The Message Study Bible. I love reading different translations. It’s great when I do my nightly Bible studies over the phone with my boyfriend, who is a dedicated NKJV reader. We get 3 translations at once. 🙂
My favorite Bible is my Ryrie Study Bible (NAS)….and like Lindsee said, it is really hard to part with a Bible that has all your notes and highlighting in! But if you could see the cover….really embarrassing!
Kim King
My dad and I were just talking about those Qr codes this week. Our technology is amazing. Our world is changing so fast. Amazing that the codes are in a Bible for deeper study. Interested in winning this Bible.
My hands down favorite bible is my 1998 Max Lucado Inspirational Bible… New Centruy version.
Heather Kudla
My favorite bible… probably the little pocket fake maroon leather NIV I had all through college. I needed something I could carry in my back pack with me to classes. It had a little flap that snapped over the front of it. When that started tearing, I cut it off and taped the edge. I still use it, though usually it’s left at home now.

Although I did have precious moments bible and loved it dearly, I have two favorite Bibles. One is the NIV bible that my momma gave me before I went to college. My momma lives in heaven now…so it is priceless. The second bible that I love love love is the NLT version and was given to me by my precious mother in love Becky Beavers!. She has written such special things and underlined verses that speak to my life!! These two bibles are special gifts to me by two women who have and continue to shaped my heart.
My favorite Bible. The Bible I was given by my Friend Val when I was baptized. So meaningful as a first generation Christian.
My Bible is an NIV student bible my hubby gave to me when we first got married with my new last name on it 🙂
Nicole DePauw
Michelle Harvey – I hold the NASB close to my heart…most of my scripture memory has been from that version.
My name is Peggy Kahle. I use the NIV Life Application Bible all the time so I guess it’s my favorite. It has been falling apart for some years now, so I am thinking about replacing it–just don’t know what I want to replace it with.
Courtney Headley-my favorite Bible is my Women of Faith NIV Study Bible which my husband and kids gave me in 2001. It has lots of notes and underlining, but is also starting to show it’s age. No duct tape on it yet though! 🙂
NASB because I memorized so many verses there and it was my first Bible as a new believer.
Cari Reed
I love my NIV “answer” Bible that I received as a gift when I was baptized.
My favorite study Bible is the NIV Life Application Bible that my daughter gave me on her wedding day in 1998. I love it!
My favorite Bible is my NIV compact size “to go” Bible. I’m on my second copy of the same Bible and have been using this particular copy for about two and a half years. It’s the perfect size for my travels between college in Michigan and my home in New Jersey!
My favorite bible is The Grandmother’s Bible
Kristina Neldner – My favorite Bible is a New American Standard Bible I was given by my parents when I was in high school….it’s not the one I carry to church now but I will never part with that treasure!! I also love my husband’s NIV Study Bible!
My name is Kim Ohlmann. I’ve had my navy NIV study bible with my name engraved on the cover since 1993. It was given to me by my mom and dad on my high school graduation. I love my bible with all the highlighting, underlining and notes…the markings that tell the story of my journey!
I still love my NIV Life Application Bible best.
My favorite Bible is the KJV my mother left me when she went to be with the Lord 2 years ago. It is FULL of her hand written notes, references, and prayers. It is my greatest treasure.
My favorite Bible is the one I have now & it’s nearing the duct tape stage. I keep finding bits of purple leather everywhere! The superficial is part of why I love it. I’m crazy about purple & it’s purple and even written in dark purple instead of black. It’s an NIV. I love that version because I grew up in Christian school & it was the version we used for Bible memory. To this day just a phrase will bring back a whole chapter I learned 15 years ago!
More than that it’s where it’s been. I’ve faced some of the toughest places ever personally this Bible & have so much underlined. But the thing I remember the most was I was so suicidal years ago that I had to be hospitalized. In that psych ward I became friends with a young lady who was a Muslim. She just assumed I’d hate her because I was a Christian. When I didn’t she was shocked. One night I was studying & had my Bible laying out. She asked if she could read it. She opened it to John & read for a long time. We didn’t really talk about it, but something happened in her that night. I’ll never forget it.

Oops I left my name out on the previous comment. NIV & the message.
Favorite Bible is Life Application Study Bible.
My favorite bible is my NIV study bible that my husband gave me for Christmas the year before we were married.
Hi, I’m Marcy Garrett and my favorite bible is the life application study bible NIV.
Thanks! 🙂
I’m Tammy Karasek and my favorite old Bible is my Thompson Chain Reference Bible in the NIV translation I bought in 1983!! Hmmm, does the duct tape work? I’ve seen it in many colors now, maybe I can finally have a hot pink Bible!!
Gloria Ferrer – I love my NIV but I still have the KJV that someone gave me 30 years ago when I gave my heart to Jesus!
Rachel Dake – My favorite Bible is the one I received from my church when I was in 3rd grade. It is white with my name printed on the front in gold lettering. It is still beautiful and I felt like such a special person when our pastor handed it to me in front of the entire congregation. I remember looking out at my mom and dad feeling so proud!
Katherine McComis
My favorite Bible is still my 1984 NIV given to me by my daddy. So many notes written all over it! Love, love, love His Word! 🙂
Leah Gentry
I really like my Quest NIV study Bible. I bought two pink leather bound Precious Moments Bibles for my girls ten or twelve years ago. I thought they were the cutest things ever!
Nicole Schuenke –
I love my NIV but I’m very fond of The Message too.
