Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.Â
Â
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
Â
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional):Â WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
Â
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
 Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.Â
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.Â

4) I’ve done a few bible studies in the past and have probably only completed 1 of them. So this summer i really want to discipline myself and dig into the Word and grow in my walk with the Lord.
5) Whenever i’m driving of course i’m always listening to music, but the moment i come to park or if i’m finding directions i always lower the music as if it helps me concentrate better.

Going solo but plan on sharing what I’m learning with my small group!
I will be entering the mission field in East Asia in August and I want to saturate my heart and mind in Scripture and truly prepare my heart before I go!!

4. I did the gideon study last summer and it was a God send… just excited to have a study to participate in this summer.
5. I randomly hold my breath when watching TV.
I am Allison Mayes; I live in Scottsdale, Az; I am participating on my own.
Having participated in other Beth Moore Summer Bible Studies, I am familiar with the blessings that are possible by spending prayerful time in the Word of God. I am hoping to grow spiritually and become the person that God wants me to be.
quirk —n. 1. an individual peculiarity of character; mannerism. Hmmm….I think my husband would be better able to answer this one. He would probably say I am a bit peculiar when it comes to ordering food in a restaraunt. I usually have several requests and substitutions. Or…is it considered quirky to eat the same thing for lunch everyday? Peanut Butter, honey, and cinnamon on one slice of bread.
Just realized that the “quirk” I put on my comment is more of a “pet peeve”. Think I need a dictionary..laughing

2) In Oceanside, California this summer to help my Mom out, all my stuff and most bible study partners remain in Jacksonville, Florida
3) Solo…but open to connecting with women in California
4) “Children of the Day” really embracing how much we are HIS and what does that look like as I live out my life in this world. My 80 year old Mother’s health is declining rapidly so I am spending the summer making her home a sanctuary (cleaning, weeding, painting) and spending priceless time with her. In the midst of it God is doing some fine tuning of healing regarding childhood trauma. Only God can make weeding a divine unction of healing.
5) Photographing flowers is prayer time for me. It is a time of praise and worship and I feel really really close to God when I have a camera in front of my eye peering at a flower.
Hi Coral, I reside in Oceanside full time 🙂 we can discuss the Bible study if you are I interested!
Hi Coral, I live in Jax,Fl. Just west of there, actually, in Baldwin. Hope you have a wonderful time with your Mom! Looking forward to this Bible study, love Beth. Saw her in Daytona this past year. Have a blessed day !

I am a gramma raising 6 foster children ages 1 month-12 years. We are seriously considering adopting the older children as they have been with us almost 3 years. Their baby sister joined us and I am getting lax in spending time with God 1st thing in the morning. This is a time I need to be spending extra time with Him!
Iced tea, gotta have it!

4)I teach school, so it is much easier for me to really dig into Bible study in the summer and really get more depth in it.
5) when eating food with different colors, like fruit snacks or m&ms, I divide them all out by color first, then eat so all the colors are the same amount. I know, little OCD here 🙂

4) I am in the throes of letting go of a major stronghold that has been shackling me for decades. I must, must, must stay in the Word and hold on to it for dear life. I pray this study will help me accomplish this.
5) quirk: I am simply incapable of putting my morning coffee into a close-able mug before I set off for work. I insist on taking my open mug into the car, and the invariable result is spilled coffee (doctored with chocolate milk) with every sharp turn. The even gross-er result is the stink that emanates from days and weeks’ worth of spills. My grandbabies tell me that my car “smells of cooked cow”!! Euw!
Hi Maria Christina,
I’m originally from Orlando! Was born and raised there and most of my family is still there. Just got back from a trip there in May. We now live in Dallas, TX. Just happened to notice your post and wanted to say “Hi!”. xo Punky
Hi Punky and greetings from your hometown!! I’m originally from Italy, hubby and I moved here in Nov 2009, and now live in Longwood! I would LOVE to compare notes on our Bible Study if you have time? My email is [email protected] 🙂 God bless you! x
Maria,
Bless you for making me laugh out loud about the coffee after an extremely long day. I have done the same thing so many times I can’t count. I use the flavored creamers that have the chocolate and you just gotta love what the grandbabies tell us. Praying God’s blessings over you in this study!

4) we had a small group of us that did last years summer bible study and one of the ladies asked if we were doing one this summer. I logged onto the blog a couple weeks ago and made a plan & got a small group of ladies together again. I am excited to see what God has in store for me in 1&2 Thessalonians. We also have a first time bible study girl in our group and another who is about to move and embark on a new journey with her family. God is up to some great stuff!! Super excited! Our group will be meeting every other Thursday, starting this week.
5) quirk: I hate being late but am a procrastinator , makes life interesting sometimes 🙂

So excited to do a video bible study with this special group or women. I so look forward to Beth’s wisdom and enthusiasm for God’s word this summer. I also like the idea of the flexibility of doing it while I am traveling.. Love ya all.

5. Quirk: I summarize all Bible study homework assignments so I have a quick reference. OCD? Yes!
Pat, as to your quirk, I’m the exact same way. But, is it quirky? It gives me the opportunity to be able to look at each study in the months and years to come. It’s quite handy. 🙂

4. Really interested in studying Thessalonians since I never have before. Also, I just finished your book “So Long, Insecurity” and found it to be so helpful with insecurities primarily rooted in past failures and would love to study further how to let go of past mistakes so that I can live sold out for Christ.
5. Love all things coffee! 🙂

I appreciate having a study to keep me on track especially in the summer when everything gets a bit more relaxed. I want to continue to focus and it gives me the opportunity to meet with others and discuss the teachings of the Bible.
I am a list maker. I rationalize it as a way to remember things, but AFTER I do something that was not on the list, I will put it on the list so I can cross it off! 🙂

4. We are a small group that has been meeting with Moms in Prayer. We usually quit for the summer but we all feel like we need to be in the word and accountable to each other over the summer so we have decided to do this study. We picked this one because we love Beth’s studies and how deep we go with her. We are all feeling a little shallow and spread thin so going deep is what we need.
5. I love to be crazy in front of my kids friends. I am always the weirdest mom around. I sing and dance and say crazy things. I think I may be hoping that it keeps the boys away for a while!!!!

Three generations are doing this bible study together…..my mom, my college-aged daughter, and me!
We are all too quirky to list just one thing!
And we are hoping for a fresh word from God this summer, some extra quiet time just with Him, and to grow closer to each other as well.
