Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional): WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.

I am doing this solo
I am doing this bible study to strengthen my knowledge and relationship with God. I am currently in a season of caring for my 85 year old mom on my own. Through my church and my friends they are showing me the strength that I really do have but don’t always recognize.
Quirk: I always have to have my breakfast eaten before I get dressed for the day. That however causes a problem when I’m traveling…usually have to get dressed to go eat breakfast unless that I room service is ordered and I don’t think. I’ve ever done that 🙂

Going Solo
I just need to be in the Word of God! I have a deep desire to learn more about Him and want God’s Truth’s in the marrow of my bones. Besides my daily time in the Word, I love learning new things that I often miss 🙂
Quirk: I don’t know? I feel like my husband and best friend would be laughing and could come up with many, but neither is answering their phone…lol!!!
Quirk: my best friend came through…lol…Drooling. Yup! I drool a lot and often in the most inconvenient situations. For instance (and this is one of many), I was teaching a high school AP English class and right in the middle of the lecture…I drooled. How does one recover from that and be taken seriously? I just own it these days; it’s better than pretending it never happened…lol! or while leading worship and playing guitar…it’s difficult to wipe the drool away…lol…oh my goodness 🙂
Barbara, Lewisburg KY, Solo.
I love God’s Word and love an in-depth study. I have been so excited about beginning this one. I can’t wait to see how He will speak through this! MY QUIRK: I have OCD so I guess that covers any quirk anyone could possibly have! But you know what? I am so thankful for that because it keeps me organized.

I’ve been leading a great small group of women since 2012 and I took this summer off to recharge and devote time to two classes I am taking at Beeson Divinity School.
Quirk: I don’t like to step on the cracks in sidewalk. I will take short or long strides to step over them…looking absolutely ridiculous.
Hello Everyone, I am joining you from Florida. I am solo for now but only because I just heard about this today.
Sarah Newton Highland Village, TX Going solo I am hoping this will help motivate me more to be in the Word and make it a habit.
We are a group of 25 women wanting to go deeper into the Word. I have completed a few studies on my own and am looking forward to getting back into a group setting.
I forgot to mention, our group is meeting in New Cumberland, PA.
Linda Rice, Lakeland, Florida. Solo! My small group is not meeting this summer, so this is a perfect way to stay in the Word and accountable.

4. My ladies small group is ending in 2 weeks, and one of the lesson’s we covered was on being disciplined (Angela Thomas’ Brave). I desire to be in the Word everyday and joining a group definitely helps me stay accountable and be more disciplined!
5. I HAVE to have a cold cup of water every night after I brush my teeth! One of my favorite things is when my sweet husband will go get me my cup of water as I start getting ready for bed at night!
Cindy Sudderth, Sugar Hill. Solo. I’m excited to begin this bible study because I love being in the Word and learning new things. My quirk is I must be on the back row in church in order to not be distracted. 🙂
I am doing this solo but would love finding a group to join. I have not done a bible study in two years so I am so anxious to get into the word in depth. I am blessed with a long commute and a knack for memorizing scripture so I can’t wait to memorize all of Thess. My quirk is I love drinking only water hot or cold!

4. My goal for the summer months is to dwell in God’s Word (Colossians 3:16) so that I can be prepared to teach Bible study in the Fall.
5. my quirk – I like to eat the salt off of the pretzel before I eat the pretzel.
Sue, Crossville TN, flying solo, we just moved here in Feb. and I am ready to dive back into the Word. I love to sit and just watch exercise videos.
My Name is Cindy Power
I live in the small community of Pembroke, just outside the Town of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in Canada.
I am doing this study solo for the summer.
My motivation for studying with you this summer may sound a bit selfish. I lead a small group of approximately 15 ladies in Bible Study each week throughout the year. I love these ladies and we have created wonderful friendships throughout the years. We have just ended Beth’s study “Sacred Secrets” last week. I am looking forward to spending time in The Word throughout the summer…learning what God has for me through His Word and getting my tank refilled so that I can be ready to give my very best when we start meeting together again weekly in September. We will still meet once a month over the summer where I have challenged the ladies to continue to their study….to read a book of the Bible which they are unfamiliar with…do a short study themselves…read a Christian Book, etc.
A quirk of mine…hmmmm….It really irks me when someone says they will do something and they don’t do it!!!
1. Kristen Keeling
2. Monroe, Georgia
3. Small Group of just 2 🙂 We plan on meeting & watching our videos by the pool.
4. I’m involved in BSF during the “school year” but didn’t have anything for the summer. I really need the consistency in the Word and something planned. I’m excited because I love Beth’s studies. We’re going into our 2nd year of homeschooling & I needed to be filled up before gearing up for school.
5. Whenever I eat candy or something by the bite (M&M’s, Skittles, etc.), I have to have an EVEN number. I chew them on each side of my mouth & one side can’t have less than the other. Instead of putting one piece back, I always grab an extra if the number is odd.
Bendiciones from Mexico Beth, Lindsee and SIESTA sisters in Christ,”…with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.” and “Children of the Day” study … I’m so excited about Thessalonians!
1)Peggy
2)living in Mexico but from Minnesota
3)solo (unless I’m able to gather a group)
4)I miss my home church (English speaking) weekly Bible studies and just need me some good Word in English with the best teacher, Beth Moore … it’s been way too long for me to not be in a Bible study small group (cell)or conferences that use to be a major part of my life.
5) quirk … I have to have me a Dr. Pepper and Fritos (with salt and lemon, it’s what MX has or else ‘chili’ spice is on everything)just like Beth has her coffee but I spend my quiet time with the Lord, way ahead of my DP (which is around 9 am, whereas my time with God is 5-6am)
if I don’t have it by noon … real addict … I get headaches.
Would have loved to have gone along to Thessalonika, Greece with y’all!
Vaya con Dios y que siga bendicida y bendiciendonos! {Go with God and that you may continue blessed and blessing us}
Amor y paz en Jesucristo,{Love and peace in Jesus Christ}

1)SKay Fires, 2)Possum Kingdom Lake, TX, 3)Solo, but also participating online in Women’s Bible Cafe Chatroom discussion with Christine Smith, 4)At Beth’s suggestion, I have been taking a sabbatical from Beth’s Bible studies and studying other authors. COTD has been calling my heart, and since I have loved other Summer Siesta studies, I felt compelled to join this study. Also looking forward to LPL in Lubbock, Tx. July 11th to celebrate my 60th birthday with my BFF, LPL staff, and 10,000 of my closest Siestas at United Spirit Arena. 5)Like Beth, I have to drink coffee first thing in the morning, so my ritual of praise/prayer is similar to hers. I have also collected whimsical frogs for over 40 years, and love the acronym FROGS…Fully Rely On God’s Strength.

4. My husband is a pastor and we are in a new church, new city and I feel an online study would be of benefit to me during this time of transition.
5. Whenever we go out to eat, I always take a picture of my food (drives my husband crazy) and also a close up picture of whomever I am with and send it to my one sister and she has to guess where we are. She also does the same when she is out:)
Your quirk sounds like fun.
Jennifer from Allen, Texas. I’m doing this study with 7+ other ladies from all over the world including Madagascar! I love leading women’s bible study throughout the year and I don’t want to lose momentum over the summer 🙂

I am looking to go much deeper in the Word this summer and fellowship with ladies who desire the same.
I spend more on coffee creamer than the coffee! I have a small problem!
Oh my goodness…me too! Do you also shop for creamer at different stores because one store never seems to carry exactly the one you want?!?!?

I’m excited to do a new BM Study, I really am excited to learn more about 1-2 Thess, and I enjoy being in study of the Word.

Mariposa – Albuquerque, New Mexico. We are doing a small group, right now just two of us. We meet in the wee hours of the morning on Fridays before work. I need this bible study for summer because after a full fall and spring, I am feeling disconnected from the Lord (Esther season I think). I drink too much coffee.
7826 North Branch Monclova OH 43542 I teach young moms all winter. We have done many of Beth’s studies but for two years we are teaching on marriage and now, the mission of motherhood. So I have missed James and am thanking you for offering this during the summer!I cannot teach without personal study. I really miss you, Beth and am looking forward to the study! And, I really despise cucumbers-yuk!

Beth, Story City, IA
Solo; Reason for doing this Bible study–never studied 1 & 2 Thessalonians in depth before so planned to do this study including the optional video sessions. I always look forward to these summer studies you do, Beth and I am so happy that you chose your newest study. I have to confess that I have already started watching the optional video sessions & doing the workbook & I’m blown away with God’s timing with this study. What a blessing!
Quirky–I often take studying to the extreme! Taking copious notes(on reinforced notebook paper), investigating beyond what is asked for in the study; when I get in the study zone, I can sit for hours at a time with Bibles(multiple translations), books, pens(writing/color marking) surrounding me…and of course–a cup of coffee!!

2. a small town in SC
3. with another sister in Christ
4. I just long to dig into the Word this summer.
5. Is it a quirk that I use the Southern language from my childhood as an adult? (It’s actually colloquialisms, but I’m going with language quirks.) Things such as mash the button instead of press it, cut the light off instead of turn it off, I’m fixin’ to do something instead of about to. I have adults correct me sometimes. Mostly they are not from around here. Bless their hearts. 😉
(I have to add my husband’s favorite saying: Did your mother have any children that lived? Yes, I know.)
6. I’m super excited to begin this study with you.

4.I haven’t been in a (in real life) Bible study for sometime and have enjoyed the opportunity to participate in things online. I did Priscilla’s last year with you all and it was very moving for me.
5. Quirk? Ha, my husband always catching me when I am putting on my makeup or doing my hair with my lips pursed and my knee popped. I don’t even realize I am doing it, like the mascara mouth. ha!
From Ellisville, MS. Going solo this time. Love the subject matter in Thessalonians & am excited to meet new “siestas”! My quirky thing is when you open a pack of Oreos r chocolate chip cookies you must eat the same amount of cookies from each row so all rows stay even as u go! Why? Who knows!!!
