Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional): WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.
I have done mostly all of Beth’s studies. The last 3 I have done on my own.. I don’t get as much out of them but still love being in the Word.
1. Shari Edwards
2. North Little Rock, AR
3. Solo, but doing it with group in the fall
4. Have not done a Beth Moore study in a couple of years, and have heard really great things about this one! Thessalonians is a book I’ve not studied thoroughly
5. Not a quirk, but my oldest son is getting married in September to a sweet, precious Jesus-loving girl! I am a mom to 3 boys so I am BEYOND EXCITED!!
Robin, NM – another friend and I will both be doing this online and sort of solo, but “meeting” up with email and hopefully in person from time to time
I need this study because I grow so much when I stay in God’s word.
I am a total dog lover. My poor husband has put up with alot from our newest 2 rescues – they chew up his socks and shoes, steal the remote and his phone. But, oh, are they cute!

3.) Solo
4.) I want to grow deeper in my relationship with God and am actually looking for a bible study to join for the summer! And I really love your teachings so when the opportunity arose to join your bible study I jumped at the chance!!
5.) Hmm, there are a lot of quirky things about me so it’s hard to just name one lol.. So I’ll name two: in the past I have locked myself out of things.. My house, my car, etc. So now I double & triple check if I have my keys with me before leaving anywhere and I also double/triple check if my car and house doors are locked. Another one is I giggle & laugh a lot, especially when nervous and sometimes will giggle at the most inopportuned time (yes, I’m working on that!)

My name is Dorothy Whittington. I am from Springville, AL. I am going solo on this, but I am in a summer small group through my church. I will mention this to them this week. I need to be in a bible study to keep me accountable and in Gods word every day. I say that I’m too busy and if I am not in a group, I tend to let it fall to the wayside. My quirk is that I am very funny, but I seem to be a serious person.

New job in January after being off 3 years (in the Word) I am backsliding and need accountability
My quirk is I play the good morning game with my sweet mutt. Since going back to work I try to cheer her up before I leave. We spent so much time together and she is my therapy dog.

4 because this past year God has been teaching me all about who He is and who I am in Him…one of those characteristics being that I am a child of light! Plus, summer is a tricky season because it is easy to get lax and lazy.
5 quirk-I’ve been in a season of growing weary of adult bullies, so my new goal is to be a love bully! (Whatever that means!)

4. I need to stay in the Word. I am in a hard time right now. My mom is 80 and starting to show big signs of Alzheimers and my oldest son is going to college at HBU (12 hours away). My husband’s job is not going so well right now. Just need to stay in the Word to keep my head above the stormy waters!
5. Beth, you made me laugh so hard on this one. I thought I was the only one that ordered my hot dogs that way. I have ordered them that way all my life. In my home town (small town) they used to call them the Devanee dog. ;o) So that is also one of my quirks! Another is I am an intervert.
Kathy, Austin, Solo
Life of demolition in this season praying the next chapter (season) I am allowing God to rebuild after a new strong foundation has been embedded into my soul’s soil.
Quirks, not pretty ones- over functioning, co dependent, enabler- My intention is that God is healing, removing the wounds and patterns and rebuilding a healthier God designed me.

4. God is amazing the way He has worked to put this Bible study in my life right now. I have just completed the Psalms of Ascent six-week study and it took me 7 months to finish it! My husband was diagnosed with ALS on Valentine’s Day, 2013. At the end of May last year, I retired to be his full-time caregiver. His condition continues to deteriorate and he can no longer walk or use his hands/arms. Taking care of him is a totally consuming 24-hour-a-day job and one which I gladly do for this wonderful husband of mine. We can no longer go to church and I certainly can’t leave him to be a part of a group Bible study. That’s why this study at this particular time is so important to me. I am hoping the accountability of meeting bi-weekly will help me get in the Word and stay in the Word because I truly love it. I’ve done all of Beth’s studies and love her teaching. Thank you for doing this!
5. My quirk is that when I was working and having meetings in a conference room, I could never sit anywhere but with my back to the wall and facing the door. I’d arrive at meetings early just to get my seat.
Dora,
My heart was full in reading your #4 comment and I wanted to reach out to you. My mother-in-law had ALS also and I know the pain in your family as you deal with this disease daily. I pray this Bible study will bring you a breathe of fresh air when you are able to absorb yourself in the Word and away from the day to day of being the caregiver. May The Lord give understanding and strength to you, your husband, and family.
Thank you so much, Andrea. We have a wonderful church family who showers us with love, but it is in the ALS Support Group we attend that I really feel people understand what we are going through. It is a terrible disease and it robs people of their identity (not to mention their ability to do anything), but thankfully not their identity in Christ. I appreciate so much your kind words and encouragement.
