Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional): WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.

4. Following the death of my 15 yr old son two and a half years ago, I have been very distant from God. I am definitely going through a ‘dry spell’. I am hoping to draw close to the Lord again, and find hope, encouragement and a desire to live my life with the ability to experience joy and gratitude for God’s blessings, which I know in my heart are all around me~I just struggle to see and feel them right now.
5. I can’t really think of any quirks I have.
Will lift you up in prayer Gina. I cannot imagine your pain. may God pour out His Spirit of peace and healing on you. Linda
Praying many blessings and joy over you Gina

5. Whenever company is coming, I feel compelled to get every stitch of our laundry done. They can be coming for a long stay or just for dinner that night…but it all has to be done and put away! Weird, I know.

4. Need/WANT to be in a Bible study this summer b/c the last six months of my life have been one constant upheaval and have seen the Lord’s faithfulness in His promises over and over and over! Seriously, the craziest season ever full of constant clinging to the Word. Ephesians 3:20 has been my rock – Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than I can even ask or imagine through the power of the Holy Spirit within me be the glory! Have used the 1000 gifts devotional this season and Beth’s Jesus the One and Only devotional and is uncanny how spot on the material has been to that particular day’s challenges. This season not over yet as we move across town after 17 years in one house in just a month and my youngest heads to a distant state to grad school. Changes, changes, changes! BUt He is constant!
5. My kids said when they were little and in trouble, I would fume and fuss, go silent for about 10 minutes and then say “and another thing!…” and fuss some more. It’s like I had to think about it and then do round 2!

4. I know my faith is stronger and I am more focused when I am in God’s Word. Also, my co-leader and I are leading Children of the Day this fall in God’s GALS study, so I was going to it. This is just a sweet blessing from Christ to do it with Beth and my siestas!
5. Quirk – I sing to the Message in my car. God gave me this voice, so I know it is beautiful to Him, just not to everyone else. It embarrasses my 14 year old daughter, especially when she has friends in the car. 🙂

5. Quirk: I like order but my spaces are often disasters–somehow those two things don’t go together.
Hi! I’m Tracy from Lakewood Ranch, FL. I’m doing this study solo. I’m excited to do this study because I just love Beth Moore and her studies – her insatiable love for Jesus is inspiring. So excited! As for a quirk of mine – I cannot take my first bite of a salad until the dressing is well distributed and mixed in throughout. Also, I have to cut everything in the salad into bite-size pieces.

Why I really need to be in Bible Study this summer….I need some meat! I usually try to do this type of study a couple of times per year. I did last summer’s study on Gideon. I haven’t done a “meaty” study like this since last summer because I started an teaching adult ladies Sunday School class this past fall at my church. A first for me! I’ve spent the past 10 months planning and praying what to teach, so I need some time in the Word with you guys.
A Quirk….when I eat outside of my home I cannot place my silverware on the table. I have to ask for an extra napkin to place my silverware on. It drives my family and friends nuts.
Praying for blessings from this study!

Bible studies keep me accountable for being in the word, otherwise, it’s easy for me to think I’m too busy.
I’m a control freak.

3. I’m doing COTD with a group of 3 young women that I’m in a life-on-life discipling relationship with in my home on Tuesday evenings.
4. Personally, I feel “stuck” in ministry. I think some of it is fear keeping me from going beyond and taking some risks. I love these 2 letters Paul wrote and have used them in discipling others. I’m so eager for The Lord to speak to me afresh through this study. I’m coming hungry…expectant…excited!
5. Well, we share a common quirk in the way we go about our morning coffee/prayer routine. 🙂 Quirk #1: When I leave the house I always leave Christian music playing for my dog, Gigi.
Quirk #2: I can never order anything from a menue just as it comes. I always ask for some alteration to the preparation. It may or may not annoy my husband depending on how hungry he is.

I Love being able to be connected thru the summer. So glad to see this study. I feel like I go thru a dry spell, during the summer, without a study. So thankful to see this available.
Can’t stand to walk on bare floor at home. Instead of slippers, I wear flip flops 🙂
I usually always wear backless shoes 99% of the time.

4. I’m a brand new first time mamma (yay!) and have chosen to stay home from work to be with our daughter. Though I’m home all day, my Bible time has suffered with the joyous new demands on my time. My regular women’s study is on break for the summer, but our teacher is going through her own personal study of 1 and 2 Thes, and it sparked my interest. And then today, here it was in my Facebook news feed. So I’m jumping on board. Hoping to really know God deeper!
5. Quirks, hmmmm. I’m a list-maker and a check-off-er. I work much more efficiently when I’m writing things down.
