Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional): WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.

4. The past three years have been very difficult. I lost my sister-in-law at the age of 47 to cervical cancer. My precious husband (it happens to be our 25th wedding anniversary today!) had a heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery and then six months later his father had the same thing and recovered at our home. My mother had abdominal surgery and my sweet daddy just finished chemo for non-Hodgkins lymphoma. My son will be a senior in high school in the fall and that is also emotionally draining, but beautiful all at the same time! I want to do this study to be refreshed in the Word. I am so tired physically, spiritually, and mentally. It is hard when you feel you have to be strong for everyone all the time and these last few years have been that way.
5. I guess a quirk that I have is that I love sweet tea, but only if it has peach flavoring in it. Yum!

After a long year of homeschooling, I am looking forward to getting into the word for pure joy.Just the Lord and me;no teaching involved.:)
Chewed gum gives me the heebie-jeebies.
I love Beth’s studies. We are traveling this summer so I can continue to study while on the road.

Quirk – I make necklaces out of vintage fishing lures. I have a lot of lures and don’t even fish.

4. I was deeply hurt by people in my last church and now feeling the need to get back into God’s word!
5. I’m very ordinary, no quirks…maybe that’s a quirk in itself!
Let me try that again…a quirk is not a pet peeve. Ha ha…So a quirk of mine is that I must wear mascara even if I’m just going to the gym…makes me look more awake
I really need to be in God’s word and the summer is a time when I let my commitment to that slip.
One of my quirks is that I like things organized and symmetrical!!
1. My Name is Becky Wilks
2. I live in Columbia, Mississippi
3. I’m riding solo this time.
4. I study the Word regularly, and often participate in Bible study in my home church. But I just celebrated my 50th birthday; I’m in a dry place right now, and need something fresh and new. I so long to be used by God, and am thirsty for Him.
5. A quirk? I hum. Constantly. When I’m in Walmart shopping, I hum; at work, I hum. Always. It’s a little annoying, I know, but it calms me.

3. Small Group (Cynthia, Cherri, Lucille, Tere, Sue, Missy, DeAnne, Caroline, and me)
4. This small group tries to stay in bible study. We love the accountability and fellowship with our sisters.
5. My quirk – those paper covers on straws that they serve in restaurants, most people crumble them and toss them aside. Not me! I HAVE to tie mine in a bow. I have a sister (she lives in Ohio) that does the same thing. How crazy is that?
1. Mary
2. Zeeland, MI
3. Solo, but love sharing with my accountability girls what I am studying
4. I have done many of your studies at church and several on my own because I just do well with a guide to help me study. This fall a group will be doing this one while I lead another option, Ruth by Kelly and I didn’t want to miss out on this study. I love studying books of the Bible compared to just topics.
5. In order to drink as much water as I should I love it to be COLD, I was so happy when I found Klean Kanteen insulated bottle it keeps it cold all day, I am very picky about my water.

4. I have led Beth Moore studies in my home for years, took last year off because of traveling for work, and miss it so much. I’m excited to get back into the Word in such a meaningful way.
5. I get excited about purses and bags that have “perfect pockets” for everything. I will never have the big throw-it-all-in-the-bottom bag!

Love all the Beth Moore studies! Want to bathe in the Word alone and through someone like Beth where God has shared with her and through her just for me. Looking forward to this study!
Quirk – I have become content with getting only 3 hours of sleep at a time. I may go back to bed after an hour or so but 3 hours and my internal clock says that’s it – get up now. So I do. This happens no matter what time I go to bed.

4. I am doing this study because I am feeling so dry in this season of my life! After just having my second child and moving with the military, I haven’t been putting my daily time in with Jesus and I miss it SO much! I am so excited to see what he has in store for us through this study!
5. A quirk? I love garage sales! Don’t get me wrong I love any type of ahopping, but the true treasures you can find and up cycle from garage sales is magic!

4. I’m dry/burned out/broken/depressed/gone. I have not a shred of a thread to hang on to that end of rope any more.
5. (It’s almost easier to think of how I’m NOT quirky. I’m just plain weird.) One quirk – I assemble my hamburgers in the exact same way every time. If I order one out, I change the order they put the ingredients on. Sometimes it doesn’t work and I end up with mustard on the top instead of the bottom!

3. We’re a small group of 5 high school teachers who have joined together previously to do two other Bible studies of Beth’s. We’re going to meet biweekly at area restaurants as food motivates us 🙂

4. I have not done a Bible study in quite some time and I am missing it! We moved across the country just over a year ago and our lives were kind of turned upside down. Shortly after moving, with my husband and two kids, my youngest sister suffered a traumatic brain injury. She and her preschool age son ended up moving across the country to live with us while she recovers. Needless to say it has been quite the year and probably the most difficult yet. We have not yet found a community and I am missing that! I love these types of studies and am so looking forward to getting back into the Word!
5. Quirk? I have to clean out the fuzz between my toes before I get into bed each night…
1) Katherine Griffin
2) Macon, GA.
3)Solo. I am participating solo right now but may have others from our bible study joining after today. We are starting the Children of the Day study at our church tomorrow, June 4th.
4) I have been in difficult seasons in recent years. It is on my heart to provide an opportunity for women to have a place to go, to share, to revel in God’s Word together, during the summer.
5) Quirk: I ask too many questions. I am a detail person and I want to know the details about everything. I may drive people crazy…

4. Have been wanting to get back to doing indepth study rather than just getting a quick fix from a daily devotional. Listening to “Believing God” on my lunch hour while I do cross-stitch embroidery and every time we get to pledge of faith #5 “God’s Word is alive and active in me” a small voice jumps up and says “oh yeah, how can that be when you are not really spending time in the Word?”. This will change that.
5. I buy beautiful journals and then never write in them. That will change to. I’ll start by putting our memory verses in a journal.

I’m so thankful for this summer Bible study. I’m going through a very hard time right now…a dry, dark place.
I’m expecting Him to meet with me, and do a work in me through this study of His Word.
My quirk… I HATE for the cabinet top around the bathroom sink to be wet.
Thank you Ms Beth for giving us a memory verse for each week, I was SOOOOO hoping you would!
I love you Ms Beth!

5. I always make sure my debt card is in my wallet before walking into a store, 99% of the time it’s there and it’s a crazy quirk
