Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy. On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.
Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional): WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Week 1 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.
Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.

Also, just in a place of transition, so always looking for something from the Word to speak into my current season.
5. A Quirk?? I like peanut butter on my pancakes and waffles…

Elaine Johnson
Bedford, TX (Dallas/Fort Worth)
Doing the study with my two precious girls, Alison and Mallory who are 17 and 13 respectively.
I need to do Bible study because I need concentrated time in the Word to renew my focus on Christ.
QUIRKS:
Mom, Elaine – I hate anything mint but Peppermint Patty candy is my favorite. It’s the chocolate in it that makes it AWESOME!
Alison, 17 yr. old – around people she doesn’t know she talks like a Fairy (high-pitched). Around family and friends, her voice is extremely deep.
Mallory, 13 yr. old – can’t stand the common areas in the house to be messy but her room is a disaster.

To enjoy spending time with the Lord and His word. To learn more and be refreshed, and hopefully share that with others.
During my quiet time I open my bible and gently smooth the pages as if I could absorb the peace just by touching it.

Wow! I just bought this Bible Study Book and I am so excited. I am trying to finish up Sacred Secrets and I am on the last week of it, plus VBS started this week, so I will try to squeeze in this Bible study also.
The passion, the compelling love of Christ, and just the desire to know God and His Word more.
A quirk…sometimes I like my Hazelnut coffee, my chocolate and my Bible study all next to me when I am working on my Beth Moore Bible study.

Valerie Mathews from Belford NJ. I am going solo and it is the fourth summer study I have done as I need to be in the word and this holds me accountable. One of my many quirks is that when I am getting ready to go away everything needs to be ironed and folded between tissue paper to prevent hard creases from forming.

4. I’ve been formally leading in church for 20 years straight (teaching, leading a ministry, team or small group). I’ve been having chronic health issues the last few years, so I am taking a sabbatical from formal leadership this summer. It’s just me and Jesus, working on some healing for my body, mind & soul!
5. Quirk – I have a strange obsession with fonts (almost 1800 installed on my computer – and no, I’m not a graphic artist). I love how they have personalities, can convey a mood in a publication 🙂

4. I had to. I had not really been in the word nor praying much for about 4 weeks. It affected everything. It was not on purpose just sort of happened in the business of life. I felt like I was slipping in to a giant dark hole that I could not seem to get out of. Thankfully God does not give up on us. Anyway I had been planning on doing the summer study from the first time I read about it but was waiting for it to start. Not sure what part of me thought waiting was a good idea, fortunately I decided to start early. Only a week cause I had to. It was not an option if you know what I mean.
5. I love mixed berry smoothies with a little protein powder in them and had one for breakfast everyday. The brand of protein powder I use changed their ingredients some and added a sunflower product while taking out the soy. (Why oh why does everyone think that if you are making a healthy product it has to has sunflower in it.) I am allergic to all sunflower products so now I am lost and so sad.

5. I can’t set my alarm for a ‘normal’ time. It always has to be an abnormal time, like 5:58 or 6:18.. usually with 8’s.

4. The switch from a school schedule to a summer schedule makes me slack off in my relationship with God so accountability will really help me.

5) I “read” (flip through) magazines from back to front (and I still read paper magazines and books for leisure because so much of my work is paperless!…I think that might now be considered a quirk!).

4. I am trying to get back into the regular swing of things with my youngest of 4 almost 5 months old now and deciding to home school my older children in the fall. I need to stay in the word daily!
5. Before I send anything I take it out and look at it again and double check it/re-read it again … even after it’s been packed 🙂
Can’t wait to start this study. Thanks Beth.

4. I love doing bible studies but I need this one. My good friends husband (who was also my friend) passed away unexpectedly in Feb. Even though I have seen God’s hand all over the situation & I believe God is good all the time I have really struggled. This is a dry season for me & I know this is causing it. I’m praying a solo bible study with accountability will be the answer to prayer.
5. I think about things & do things in a very structured & organized way & like a routine however my desk looks like a tornado hit it. There is no method to the madness but I somehow know where everything is. My desk does not match my personality at all.
