DEAR SIESTAS! THE MERE THOUGHT OF YOU IS MAKING ME GO ALL-CAPSY.

It has been FOREVER and then some but I have been thinking about you. I know I haven’t been in this here blog-space much recently but I can assure you that I’m still at LPM. My days are full since I’m working and going to school part-time. AGAIN. Yes, again. Somehow even when I vow to walk away for good, I end up right back in the classroom in some capacity. This time around I’m working slowly on a M.A. in Biblical Languages at Houston Baptist University. When I’m not researching something for a project at LPM, I’m taking a Greek class in the Septuagint and a Hebrew readings class in the Joseph narrative. Oh, and how could I forget to mention Winston Jeffrey Fitzpatrick?! A little over a year ago Colin brought home a baby rottweiler and our life has never been the same since (even when I desperately want it to be!). Winnie is SO, SO bad but we love him madly.

Here is W posing in my dining room. Or demanding a filet mignon cooked over medium, I’m not really sure.

Here he is again furious about having to wear his birthday hat:

But really, enough about us.

I want to talk about YOU and a fall giveaway we are doing because we love you and appreciate you.

Now, I should mention at this point that if you are one of those people who is SO OVER all the talk about pumpkin-flavored anything, then you will want to run for your life.

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE.

Do I have a faithful fall remnant?

This weekend we had our first legit “cold-front” here in Houston. It was even down in the forties one night. Glory be! The crisp cold air in my lungs got to me in the best way possible and, of all things, I wanted to cook. There’s just something about fall that always brings me back to the kitchen. Nothing better than listening to a little Norah Jones or The Civil Wars with the windows cracked open, cool breeze dancing through the house, while a chili or stew simmers on the stove. I thought just maybe fall might do the same for some of you so the grand prize winner will get a red Le Creuset signature round dutch oven (red not orange like the one on the box).

I love it passionately and do not want to let it go. I even enjoy posing with the beloved dutch oven:

The second prize to be claimed is a $100 gift card to Pottery Barn because, let’s be honest, Pottery Barn during the fall season is heaven on earth:

Gift number 3 includes an amazing decorative pillow, fall flower arrangement, and Hill Country Home candle.

Gift number 4 includes a fun little clutch from Anthro, a scarf, several pairs of boot socks, and some gorgeous MAC makeup in fallish colors.

Here is Lindsee modeling the scarf. Love her and she can work a scarf better than anyone I know:

This MAC stuff is tough to photograph but fantastic (includes three eye shadow kits and two lipsticks in shades of Russian Red and Viva Glam III).

Gift number 5 has a bunch of fun stuff: Cook’s Illustrated Fall Entertaining magazine, kitchen towels, mulling spices, Hill Country Home candle (again this is one of my faves!), autumn cupcake decorating set, beautiful engraved silver dish, Trader Joe’s Pumpkin bread mix, and more.

Gift number 6 comes with a fun autumn welcome mat, potpourri, decorative kitchen towel, and my favorite ever mulled apple cider candle. DIVINE.

Here is Mom sorting out all the gifts. Isn’t she cute?

So dear friend, for a chance to win one of the six prizes, please leave a comment with your first and last name and tell us something you love about fall.

We love you so much,

Melissa

What I love about Fall? Well living in Florida, I guess the first thing that comes to mind is, we get to open the windows and enjoy the wonderful breeze flowing through our home, we so missed the last 6 or so months. :))

I love fall for many, many reasons, one being the end of hot summer days, and the ever-changing fall color I see displayed here at the foot of Pike’s Peak.I adore falling leaves, cold nights and being able to use my down comforter! And let’s not forget the seasonal coffee flavors at Starbucks!

It brings back happy memories of me and my friends spending half the day making the biggest pile of leaves imaginable in Isham Park in NYC and jumping off a ledge of a stone wall in the park into them – it took a long time we made mountains of leaves

    KIM ARCHEY says:

I love Fall because of all the “golden” colors that pop for this season. The farmers are bringing in their crops and getting ready for Winter. Bon fires with family and friends roasting marshmallows over the fire and having smores!!! Walking in the leaves and hearing them rustle as you walk through them. The smells of stews, chilis, pies, and hot chocolate! This is my favorite season.

    Laura Jungeblut says:

What I love about fall is that for me it is centered on thankfulness. The focus shifts to the blessings that will be around my family table over the holidays. To count blessings instead of losses. And one of those is the anticipation of what Beth will be teaching me when springtime comes! How I love my time soaking up God’s word at FBC Houston!
Love you all at Living Proof and so thankful for all you are and all you do.

    Jennifer Chadwick says:

I love fall because to me it reminds me of new life! My 2 sons were born in the fall and my 2 granddaughters were born in the fall. I learned to run, walk and enjoy a healthy liestyle during the fall. I love the family get togethers, meals, pumpkin and pecan pies. I love the leaves and a cool breeze! I love the thought that one day I will be able to cuddle with that someone special God has picked out for me! I love it’s too cold to get out so stay home watch a movie and eat popcorn Saturdays!
    I love Fall!

    Teri Cowan says:

We have recently moved to Washington DC so an Eastern Fall is new to me. After 50 years in Utah I think I came to take it’s beauty for granted so seeing Autumn anew is a wonderful blessing. Though the leaves are dying and “falling” away, this time of year still speaks of new beginnings to me….going back to school, new small groups, and pulling out afghans to wrap up in while doing my morning study.

  12. 3312
    Caryl Boggs says:

Definitely the fall colors! Leaves turning, pumpkins, and decorations! Praise God for the beauty!

  14. 3314
    Shelly M says:

I could say I love fall because of the beautiful colors displayed in God’s handiwork here in Michigan… or because it’s when I married my man 29 years ago… or snuggling under a blanket at hometown football games sipping hot chocolate… There are so many things I love about fall, but if I have to be honest, this year as I approach my 53rd year (yikes!), what I enjoy most is the cool weather which gives me relief from hot flashes!!! 🙂

  15. 3315
    Julie Paddock says:

I love fall. Front porch with a fire in the pit. The sights, sounds, and
smells. Comfey clothes, and hot chocolate.

  16. 3316
    Tanya Hoffman says:

I love fall because my allergies finally start to get better! The frost comes and starts getting rid of whatever in the air makes me look like I have two black eyes! Seriously! I wish it were a better reason than that but there it is:-)

  17. 3317
    Carrie papay says:

  18. 3318

I love everything about fall! The clean, crisp air, apples, pumpkins, the colors of the leaves on trees, the seasonal smells of candles, wearing hoodies, fleece sheets, soups, bonfires and weenie roasts, the anticipation of the holidays spent with family! I could go on and on! Probably my most favorite part of fall are the bright blue skies and pretty sunshine the God blesses us with!!

  19. 3319
    Dot Khan says:

when autumn sets in, we all settle in. the world becomes cozy again. We snuggle into sweaters as the leaves of the trees turn unimaginably beautiful colors that are amazing to behold and always hard to believe. They pave the streets with their gold, orange and reddish hues and we shuffle through them and believe all things are once again possible. Even the foods we return to, comfort us as they warm us, reminding us of the steadfast comfort of home and hearth. Summer adventures are past and we settle in, filled with the security of the steadfastness of God. As summer lends itself to autumn, then winter will creep forth, so to spring will resurect all and life will abound. God is in it all, Beautifully!

  20. 3320
    Shawna Hart says:

Shawna Hart – I LOVE FALL, the colors, the smell, the crunch of leaves, but most importantly the time to just settle down from the business of summer and hibernate a bit and reflect on where I’ve been with God, where I want to be with God and how in the world am I gonna get there! Life is such a journey and I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t have all 4 seasons! Love you all!

    Heather VanHanxleden

I love Fall! It’s my favorite time of the year. The cool air, the leaves crunching under my feet and the beautiful colors of the changing leaves.

  23. 3323
    Jennifer Dancy says:

I love the fall colors. There is a stretch of road in northeastern PA that we used to drive on the way to my Grandma’s house, you’d come around a bend into a valley and the forest would open up before you, the treetops just above the level of the road and it was absolutely the most gorgeous display of color. Oranges, red, yellows almost as far as you could see. Made me wish the speed limit went down to 20 for that 1/4 mile so I could take a moment longer to breathe it in. How amazing and thoughtful is our God?!

  24. 3324
    Jessica says:

I love the brilliant colors that fall brings here in Maine. I also love the cool, crisp air. Whenever I consider the changing seasons, I love to remember that my Lord has given me seasons in life, like those on earth. He is so good.

  25. 3325

I just love you guys! So down to earth!
My favorite thing about fall is how the trees catch fire with color! It’s like watching God lighting flames of the Holy Spirit all around you and you’re suddenly surrounded by burning bushes! Captivating! And then the wind and storms come along whisking the leaves away to reveal branches raised high in a constant praise of their creator. Glorious! Nature has so much to teach us, if we only listen with our eyes wide open.

  26. 3326
    Hope Sweatt says:

Apple picking. I have been taking my kids apple picking every year for the last 10 years (since my girls were 3 and 1 and my son wasn’t even born yet). It has become quite a cherished fall activity.

Oh I love fall so much! The glorious change of the colors of the trees and the crisp, fresh air! The sky is always the most beautiful shade of blue. Of course the delicious aroma of pumpkin pie and hot apple cider! My chalkboard right now reads, “every leaf speaks bliss to me when fluttering from the autumn tree” Emily Bronte. And I do love me some scarves and boots!

  29. 3329
    Kari F says:

There are so many things I love about Fall: sweaters, flannel sheets, boots (LOVE boots), home made soups, fall coats and all things pumpkin from bars to soup. I live in Western Wisconsin and the changing of the leaves along with the cold crisp air symbolizes Fall to me.

  30. 3330
    Brenda Adams says:

Fall is my favorite time of year, with the vibrant colors of the leaves, the smell of a fire burning, and the smell of pumpkin baking in the oven or burning in a scented candle. These things mean love and family to me, especially this time of year. My husband of 44 years and I met and also married in November, my favorite month. So every year at this time, I renew my love and my devotion to the gift that God gave to me many years ago in the Fall. God shows off his splendor in nature at this time to give us a peek at what we have to look forward to in heaven!

  31. 3331
    Jennifer S. says:

  32. 3332
    Teresa J says:

Fall makes me think of family. I have two boys (14 and 10) and they are growing faster than I ever wanted. In the colder months they like to stay home more and we love to sit around the fire and make smores. Our oldest son is in the high school marching band so these last few weeks have been really COLD but I could not imagine anything going better together than high school football and cold temps. My absolute favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. Spending time with family and reflecting on things we are thankful for.

of leaves falling from the sky!

  40. 3340
    Stacy Mathew says:

I live in Indiana which has great fall colors! I asked God this fall whether there would be all of this delightful foliage in heaven. I think that since fall has to do with the “death” of plant life for the winter, and there is no death in heaven that there might not be colored leaves either. And yet I was reminded that there will be colors of such brilliance and extravagance that they defy words of description! I can’t wait to see it!

  41. 3341
    Emily E says:

I enjoy the colorful leaves, the peaceful feeling brought by the ruslting of the drying leaves in the breeze, but most of family trips to the pumpkin patch.

      Emily E says:

Sorry, it should say…but most of all (although most of trips are enjoyable too) 🙂

  42. 3342

I love the transitions of one stage of life into another. Okay, so I don’t always love the stage itself, but there’s hope, promise, and faith involved in each. Because of the beauty of Fall, even though I’m not extremely excited to be moving into a cold, Midwest winter, all of God’s promises seem to come alive with the colors and changes of Fall! I love running through the leaves…and even raking! I love bundling under blankets. I could go on an on!!!

  43. 3343
    Mindy says:

Fall is truly my favorite season! Here in Kentucky, we celebrate with the glorious colors at Keeneland Racecourse watching the magnificent colors of jockey silks against the bright blue sky and gorgeous changing leaves. My husband and I also celebrate fall because of the birth of our precious first born son, who just turned 7 this year. Watching our son and 5 year old daughter in the pumpkin patch melts my heart, and oh those Halloween costumes!! And now that it’s November, I turn my heart and head to the many blessings of the Thanksgiving season…and to our glorous Lord for bestowing them all!!

  44. 3344
    Karen Fritz says:

I love so many things about fall! The crisp cool air, Friday night football games, the state fair, my birthday, anything and everything pumpkin flavored, the world series when the Texas Rangers are playing, decorating the house for all the holidays, baking… All these things and more remind me of the love my Heavenly Father has for me and all my many many blessings, so thankful!!!

Here in Georgia the colors are beautiful, the weather is cooler and all the football flags are flying!

I love the crispness in the air, how my cat paws at the backdoor so I’ll open it and let him sit at the screen, the honey crips apples and apple cider at the grocery store and the smell of fireplaces burning…cause here in florida sister we will light a fire even if it’s just 60 degrees! hahaha I mean, that’s cold enough for us!
