Hi, Siestas! I think I’ve got a fun one! I saw this idea in one of those complimentary airline magazines and showed it to Michelle (who was sitting right next to me) with great enthusiasm and said, “I’m going to do this with the Siestas!” to which she dryly said, “Great, Ma’am.” (I adore her. To say that she has whiplash after going from Washington D.C. to Living Proof Ministries is the understatement of the year. She really doesn’t want to talk a lot about mascara and would not be caught stone-cold-dead in a pair of Capri pants. And never in her entire life has she had to keep a small bottle of anointing oil in her brief case…just in case her boss calls for it. She has also never before had a boss request a photo-shopped picture of herself on a Spiderman costume. A post for another time.)
I’m sorry. I have a little ADD this morning. Back to my idea. It’s not very original but I think it will be a blast. As we’re getting to know one another here in Siestaville, let’s hit the fast forward button. What are 10 things – right off the top of your head – that we would only know about you if we knew you really well? 10 random things ranging anywhere on your personal map that make you a tad distinctive? Or just plain weird? Think quickly. Don’t go for deep. Go for quirky. Don’t try to put them in any kind of order and don’t make them long. Just start typing. I’ll go first to give you the idea.
1. I have an addiction to Ziploc bags.
2. I hate wet socks worse than almost anything.
3. I was the only baby out of 5 born to my mother with no anesthesia. She never forgot it.
4. I wore braces for 12 years. I still often sleep in a retainer.
5. I am a read-aholic. I read over others’ shoulders. I walk the aisle on airplanes to see what others are reading. I read what’s laying on people’s desks during meetings while they think I’m listening.
6. I love Black music.
7. I need slices of cakes and pies to be cut neatly with a sharp knife and not gouged out with a fork. (Nearly just got a shiver at the thought.)
8. My children call me “Doodle.” I no longer remember why. Sometimes just “The Doods.”
9. I am a very slow driver.
10. I’m a go-girl. I love the rush of taking off in an airplane. I smile almost every time.
OK, Siestas! What about you? What are 10 quirky things we might not know?
1) i can not for the life of me bring myself to eat a fast food hamburger. Only had one in my life to my knowledge.
2) I loose my keys ATLEAST once a day. if anyone writes a book about my life they should name it "Hey Guys Have You Seen My Keys?"
3) I have constant background music in my head, often so loud that I have to look around a figure out if other people can hear it before I blurt out in song.
4) i can weld. (ffa for 4 years!)
5) when i watch movies i have to continually remind myself this is non-reality. (big reason i hardly ever watch movies that are not based on something real) I feel all the emotions so deep. weird…
6) I have to leave the house once a day at minimum or i go CRAZY. even if I am sick…I atLEAST have to go on a drive.
7) I cant do Laundry unless the bed is made.
8) Cant stand clutter or stacks of things that dont belong in the same stack…would rather it be all messy than stacked together for the sake of looking nicer.
9) Didnt know what designer clothes were until i moved to Houston (i was 21) and a youth girl took me to the Galeria and explained it to me…my mind was blown. Seriously that much $$ for a tag.
10) my husband has more than 2 times the shoes i have. i am a shoe minimalist.
1. All of my siblings middle names rhyme, except mine, go figure? And I'm the middle child!
2. I wear scotch tape on one wrinkle on my forehead every night to smooth it out — hey, no laughing, it works! My kids ask, "Mommy, does everyone do that?" Soon I'll need to tape the entire forehead:).
3. I watch the US earthquake website every day to see the quakes around the world. Love it!
4. I have chronic fatigue and need a nap every afternoon — hate it!
5. Place my hand on my chest when I wake up, most days, and say, "I am God's treasure"
6. I DVR any TV show I want to watch, so hubby and I can share it together.
7. Love to watch Fox news.
8. Never wear shorts, ever, story for another time :).
9. I have dentist trauma.
10. Will not, cannot, survive my day without first drinking coffee!

1. I am most productive between the hours of 10pm till midnight. I am the least productive between 7 to 9 am. This was not a problem until I had children. Now it is a problem!
2. I met Steve Madden in college (not him personally, the shoes). I like to joke that he has been the most stable male relationship in my life! Followed closely by my husband of 10 years – but Steve came first.
3. I memorize phone numbers. Even if they are stored in my cell phone.
4. I go to Sonic every day. Happy hour 2-4. I am never far from a diet coke.
5. I am the oldest of 6 kids. I am often praised for my "leadership skills." When I was young, I was just called "bossy." 🙂
6. My toes are always painted. Always. Usually red.
7. I LOVE babies. Love 'em. Became a NICU nurse and have only done babies for my whole career. They are just so darn sweet. And little. And they don't talk back. Cynics would point you back to entry #5. 🙂
8. I am southern through and through. This means that I say "bless your heart" a few dozen times a day. If I can't fix something in your life, then I'll just feed you: and I will always be polite and smile at you wether I have known you forever, have never met you or if I hate your guts. This is not fake – there is just no cause to be rude.
9. I love a good plan. And a "to do" list.
10. I read, read, read. And I love the library – I can have a stack of books that I bought from B&N on my bedside table, but if I don't have a few library books around too, I get nervous.
1. My nieces call me JuJu.
2. I love to write. I write even when I have nothing to write on. My best writing is done while I am vacuuming – I'll write pages and pages in my head.
3. Running is my favorite thing to do.
4. I am reading five books right now – love to read.
5. I'm 50 and can't believe it.
6. My mother is my angel on Earth.
7. My husband is shocked at my insecurities.
8.I adore Spring flowers.
9.Flea marketing is the dreamiest way to spend a day.
10.I still get excited about my next venture in life.

9. I have no idea what I will do for a living if/when I have to go back to work.
10. I would do absolutely ANYTHING for friends/family (as long as it fits in my schedule nicely. JUST KIDDING!)
1) I was obsessed with horses as a child; my daddy finally bought me one at age 12 "so I wouldn't lose my faith", as I'd asked God so often for one.
2) I was a tomboy, big time; fun way to grow up in my small town in the deep south
3) HATE litter; no excuse for it
4) Always knew racism was wrong; although compliant as a child, I DID question my parents on that one.
5) Hate driving behind slow drivers. 🙂 I might cut you some slack, however, if I knew it was you.

7) Find Bible prophecy fascinating; it so proves the Bible is TRUE. I'm looking up.
8) No luck with men throughout my life. Not sure why; I plan to ask Jesus, but by then, it won't be an issue. LOVE your theory about God being a huge romantic!! I DO have a Knight in Shining Armor…
9) Many friends are surprised to hear from me that I'm insecure; guess I cover it up well.
10) Thank God for faithful girlfriends over the year!! Have a sorority reunion group every spring.

1-I LOVE Cherry Cheesecake–not the "real" kind–the box kind that you mix and pour into a graham cracker crust.
2-In my head I am 5'5" and weigh 125 lbs….in reality, I am under 5 ft and weigh 170….shopping gives me 20/20 vision…LOL
3-My husband is very tall and fit….we look funny/cute together.

4. I too love airplanes and airports, I used to work at airports – I have been on the very top of the control tower at Houston Hobby airport
5. I love to play softball, but last year the communication was apparently disconnected between my brain and my arm – now I can’t hit the shed from 10 paces (I'm sure it's psychological)

1. i never make my bed unless company is coming over and might catch a glimpse through my closed door.
2. i absolutely despise birds. well, i take it back i like hummingbirds (and by like i mean can look at without gagging) but that is it!
3. i have an irrational fear of sharks and alligators.
4. i do not like tea (iced or hot) – and i try really hard to like it…just doesn't work.
5. i will absolutely NOT get another manicure. last time i got hangnails (and i never get those) on both sides of every nail. yikes.

1. I have an incredible desire to adopt a down-syndrome baby. Told my husband yesterday. He didn't think I was crazy but there was silence on the phone.

6. My son (6 months old) has seemingly discovered his tongue. He used to smile but now his smiles consist of sticking out his tongue!

8. My husband is amazing, a firefighter. It is a noteworthy, heroic profession. I give him too much crap (can I say that word?) about it because it pays so little. I don't mean to be condescending, usually it is jokingly, but I definitely need to work on that (only because I want to have a large family and such…)
9. I am obsessed with cows. We actually live across the street from them. We get to feed them, etc. But, I would love to bond with them… they don't like that!
10. I think I would have a nervous break down if I lost my calendar (well all 3 of them!)…

I am amazed at the number of people who have used the words lists, numbers, fetish, organization/organize, obsessed, etc. I'm starting to feel unorganized and unorderly just reading these lists ! Must go put some things in order now!
1. My dad still calls me "Monkey"

3. DO NOT move my furniture out of its indentation in the carpet!!!
4. I love donkeys!

1. This is the 1st time I've read every comment on this blog because I'm homeschooling 4 kids and don't have the time.
2. I LOVE being home and don't EVER want to go back to work (at least not full time and maybe I'd volunteer but not work for money).

4. I HATE the idea of spas, massages, etc., and cried when my husband gave me a certificate for a spa day once for our anniversary because he didn't KNOW I hate spa days.
5. At the age of 43, I had my 4th child at home – on purpose. Best and easiest childbirth and recovery ever. Wish I'd done it with the 1st three kids.

In the same day I said to my husband, "I'd like to live on a small piece of land where we could have our own chickens for eggs, cow for milk and small vegetable garden, if I could keep the inside of the house and you and the kids would do the outside work." and later, "We need to live in a big city like this where everything is close." He laughed at me.
7. I am somewhat OCD and like things to be organized (even check my kids dresser drawers when I do a bedroom check every morning).
8. I am 47 years old and have never colored or highlighted my hair. I like my hair color. However, I'm starting to have too many gray hairs to pull out, so I think some highlighting is in my future.
9. I have a terrible sweet tooth.
10. I really want to move to St. Louis (grew up across the river in Belleville, IL – am now living in FL for the past 26 years and I really miss the seasons!). Hubby was laid off in August and has yet to find a permanent job that will pay enough to provide for our family but is looking in St. Louis!

1. When I was little, I wanted to be Barbara Mandrell when I grew up, and host my own variety show. Didn't realize that wasn't really a job.

5. I had straight hair until I starting getting perms in 5th grade. I got my last perm in 7th grade and have had curly hair since! I'm 34.

10. I love road trips with my husband. But, I get fidgety and cranky after 5 hours in the car and sometimes take Dramamine just to knock myself out the last couple hours. Surprisingly, my husband doesn't mind. 🙂
