(OK, I’m coming back on here about four or so hours after putting up this post so that I can tell you that it turned out to be one of “My Favorite Comment-Sections EVER”! I’m not kidding. You guys are the world’s biggest blast. But, I’m now in the shopping mood again.)
Good Monday Morning, Sweet Things!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and that you were able to observe some Sabbath rest and be still for a few moments, knowing that He is God. I had an usually wonderful weekend with unexpected joys. For starters, this was a weekend off. That means I got to awaken slowly on Saturday with no plans whatsoever then had an impromptu call from Amanda saying that she had a few hours to hang out. Turned out Melissa did, too. (The joys of having her back are too many to count!) As we were trying to think of what we wanted to do (and were shopped out and grossed out at the thought), Amanda said, “Let’s go see Aunt Gay’s new apartment!”ย I’m hoping it won’t be long before you get to know my big sister here on the blog. She has a story that might hit those of us presently slogging around in faithlessness with a fresh bolt of lightening. Her boys (25 and 15) also headed over to her new place at the same time and the thought of us all being together was better than a bubbling plate of cheese enchiladas with chili gravy running all into the rice and beans. (Man, I hate that I just did that to myself.) The six of us were inseparable in the early years when my mom, our Queen of Everything, was still alive and in complete control. (I say that with great affection…and without deception.) I have almost as many pictures of my sister’s boys as I do my own girls. Then a whole lot of life happened and that’s a story for another time. We had a blast together Saturday and laughed our heads off, which has always been a Green (my maiden name) family trait. What we lacked in emotional health, we made up for in humor. As my older brother, Wayne, says, we all have a keen sense of the absurd. And I might add, we earned it.
If you only knew the whole story…but, then again, you could say the same thing to me. Some whole stories don’t need to be told in public but they do indeed need to be redeemed. (To me, the line is drawn where the glory to God and the good to the listeners profoundly exceeds the pain of the testimony. If the listener will likely be left with graphic visuals and oppressive thoughts or pervasive sadness, we need to refrain from telling it in detail. In those occasions, generalities are best. We don’t have to tell people everything to tell them an important something. We also have to be very sensitive to the other people – often family members – whose secrets are inadvertently told as we tells ours. These are HUGE issues that need to be worked through with great sensitivity. Mind you, I’m talking about audiences here. I’m not talking about counseling sessions. We do indeed need to find someone trustworthy and mature in the faith, with a gift for counsel, to hear our whole story.) All this to say, if you’re alive enough to read this blog, you’re story is not yet finished and you’ve got time for a really great turn in the narrative that leads to a brilliant finish. I know that for a fact.
OK, can you switch tracks really fast? I thought we’d do something fun today. I was thinking again yesterday while I was putting on my make up and getting ready for church how ticked I am that L’Oreal discontinued the mascara Melissa and I used to use. It was our favorite EVER and no other mascara does lashes like it did. It’s so annoying when that happens. And what a double whammy after my favorite pen got discontinued! Some of you remember that nail biter. No wonder it’s been such a hard year. (Of course, I’m being ridiculous. I don’t want to insult those of you going through tremendously hard times. Like many of you, last year actually was really rough but, oh, that it would have been over pens and mascaras.) I decided it would be fun today to share your favorite ___________ ever. By all means, don’t share something that’s been discontinued or you will dangle a plastic carrot in front of your Siestas. Beyond that, it can be anything! (Suitable to this blog, of course) It can be your favorite mascara. It can be your favorite book. It can be your favorite recipe. It can be your favorite meal. It can be your favorite memory. It can be your favorite song. Share ONE FAVORITE THING of yours (only 1!) with your Siestas today. It may mean that some of us find a new favorite something this very day.
Start it like this: My favorite (fill-in-your-blank) EVER is… (then, for crying out loud, tell us)
I think this is going to be fun. I’ll start with a really stupid one.
My favorite lip plumper EVER is Sally Hansen “Lip Inflation.” It’s dirt cheap and it feels like you’ve rubbed Tabasco all over your mouth. If it plumps like it hurts, move over Angelina.
What’s your favorite something, Siestas??
hmm….this is hard…
my favorite color ever is the color of the sky on a spring day — bright, clear, beautiful blue.
My favorite movie of all time is The Sound of Music. My sweet grandmother took me to it the year it came out. Of course I have my own copy of it to watch whenever I get the urge!
It’s my favorite movie too. I love the song “These are a few of my favorite things”
Mine, too, Margie! When it comes on TV, I’m drawn to watch it – even though I own it and can watch it any time. My aunts took me to see it in the theater when it came out. I was staying with them when my baby brother was born. I was very young, but they said I came out of the theater after seeing it just once and could sing most of the music – and kept doing so most of the week I was with them. And now, today, I still never tire of seeing it or of hearing the music. ๐
My favorite feeling ever is when God answers a long-held prayer request or delights me by surprise in some way; knowing the desires of my heart.
And if the sun is shining, it’s warm out, and I’m having a good hair day with a cute new outfit on — that makes it all-the-more fantastic.
My favorite book/cookbook is the one my father spent over a year making for us. It has great family recipes as well as genealogy and stories about family members who have left this earth all together in one book. He went as far back as the vikings! It is one that we will treasure for years to come.
My favorite laughter ever is hearing my Dad laugh when we watch “The ‘Burbs” together. We have seen it so many times and I know all of the places when he’s going to laugh, so I catch myself watching him and smiling so big.
One of my favorite everyday phrases is my two year old little red-headed boy saying with a cocked head and puckered lips, “she’s so cuuuute” about my 3 month old daughter.
I’m back…can’t help it…
I’m a pen and paper junkie. My favorite pen is my beautiful marble green Waterford fountain pen, and the paper to go with it? Rhodia pads and paper.
My favorite day starts with the whole family playing together on the beach; swimming, body-surfing, making sand castles. Eating something grilled with summer-fresh fruits and vegtables and ending with a beautiful sunset…
My favorite painter is Auguste Renoir. I love the softness of the skin his paintings portray.
Miss Clairol fiery red…with a big dose of cover-the-gray. (Since I’m 50 today, I might as well confess. None of y’all will tell, will you?) Besides my Bible, it’s the one thing I’d take to a desert island.
And thanks, Beth, for your other thoughts. I struggle how to bring glory to our amazing God through the story of the pit He rescued me from, and at the same time be respectful to people I dearly love (all the while living in a small town where people know who I’d be talking about anyway). This too could be my family’s motto: “What we lacked in emotional health, we made up for in humor.”
Favorite book (this week) is True Grit. Didn’t see the new movie but wanted to know why it’s been make into two movies. The Christianity of Mattie is SOOO my grandmother’s version. Loved it!
My favorite smell is Johnson’s Baby Wash or Baby Shampoo…especially if I’m smelling it in a kid’s freshly washed hair. To me it just smells like LOVE.
My favorite time is spent on the porch of my dear friend Maggie’s lake house, on Lake Travis in Austin. There is nothing like the hill country, any time of year.
Beth we are so excited to see you in April in Little Rock. Our GLR/NLC (Greater Little Rock/New Life Church) Ladies have done every study you have (or at least some of us have) We will be the roudy bunch in Arkansas Razorback Red T-Shirts. The growth that I have acheived from your study’s along with the growth of new ones pumps me up. We usually have over 100 Ladies each semester sign up and there are always women that tell us, “This is my first Bible Study”. You hook them and we keep them from there. Thanks for your heart. Love Love You!

I’m enjoying reading everyone else favorite things. I feel the Sound of Music song “My favorite things” coming on!
My favorite soap is by Bath and body works. I was first exposed to it when I went to San Antonio for our Siesta Fiesta and it was in the hotel. It is Orange Ginger from their aromathearpy collection. It is so so so good. I love the whole collection!
My favourite pen EVER is the BIC 4-colour pen!!! Oh yeah, I love those pens. It is the most useful tool for inductive bible study and marking in my bible and I wouldn’t be without it when I’m writing in my journal, and it is great to highlight things I absolutely have to get done and appointments on my calendar (there are 4 of us … perfect eh?).
My favorite candy of all time are Buttered Popcorn flavored Jelly Bellies!!!! “Santa” puts them in my stocking every Christmas and all my friends save them for me because none of them can stand them!!!

Oooooh! A GiGi’s Cupcakes just recently opened up near me and I LIKE SO MUCH their dark chocolate ANYTHING!
My FAVORITE song EVER is Mercy Me, Finally Home because of the verse that says,
“I’m gonna wrap my arms around my daddy’s neck and tell him that I’ve missed him.”
This song makes me smile/cry because I can’t wait till I can see my dad again! ( Lost him a year ago)
It always seems to come on at just the right times. Maybe he’s sending it down to me because he knows I need to hear it! I miss him so…
My favorite hair treatment EVER is Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy – – worth the time and money to be able to wash n’ go this naturally curly hair and not worry about humidity or rain undoing all my straightening efforts! It’s awesome and makes your hair feel so soft!
my favourite place is Sydney Harbour. Beautiful on a sunshiney day.
My favourite eyeliner is Max Factor’s colour perfection in black. Love it. Would be so disappointed if it got discontinued!
Heledd ๐
My True Religion jeans….!
Have to add Starbucks French Roast. Have to. Must. We are very close and loyal to one another. ๐
My favorite dessert EVER is cheesecake. It is my birthday and I am waiting EVER so patiently for my sweet, darling children to hurry up and go to bed so that I do not have to share my birthday cheesecake with them ๐
One of my favorite Siesta Scripture Memory moments EVER was just this morning! I’m usually late to post my verse, and that’s usually because I’m going back and forth between a few verses trying to finally decide which verse I’m going to pick. This morning I was feeling all guilty about my lateness and not “having it together” even with SSMT, when it occured to me that *because* I vascilate back and forth between a few verses for several days each time, I’ve actually been meditating on and mostly memorizing far more than just two verses each month. I love that! So what the enemy has been using to discourage me has actually been for my good. Go God!
linda, i do this too & i love your perspective! ๐
I do two verses each time each time. One of instruction and one of praise.
My favorite Bible highlighter ever WAS Avery Glide Stick which they discontinued. Before they left the shelves forever I snatched up (paid for) all I could get. I have about 5 left and I am totally selfish with them.(My bad!) Have I made them an idol?
okay, wait, just one more…Think Thin White Chocolate protein bars….
It has been said before…
My favorite sound in the WORLD is babies laughing, like 3 and 4 month olds. There is a youtube of this chubby little tyke on a bed and he laughs and laughs and I end up with tears rolling down my cheeks laughing with him!
No matter how foul a day has been, nor how tired I am… put on the video and before long I too laugh with him!
It feels like God’s laughter is sounding out loud ๐
My favorite sound ever is hearing my kids laugh when I am not in the room.
I have so many favorite thing evers…it is so hard to pick one…but one would be Starbuck’s. I love a Venti Soy No Water Chai!
My favorite thing to do EVER is to take a walk on the beach, especially if it’s with my husband, kids, and the dog.
my favorite youtube video EVER is GloZell’s translation of “I whip my hair back and forth”
Hmm.. One is tough as I have MANY favorite things! I could totally host my own “Roxana’s Favorite Things” show!!
My FAVORITE Bible Study teacher is Beth HANDS DOWN! ๐ Your teaching/speaking is anointed and I am so thankful that my precious husband got me my first BM book, ‘So Long Insecurity’ last year. I have since read a whole bunch more and am on my second BM study, Esther. (Thank goodness for my Kindle… someone here said the iPad is the best.. sorry, sistah, the Kindle takes the cake in my world!)
So thank you! For being obedient to his call on your life and for being all about Jesus! Keep on doing His work and stay blessed! (See you in Tacoma in a couple of weeks!! WOOT!)
I had a Kindle first, still have it and LOVE it. I had no desire for an
iPad, got it as a gift. I don’t pay for the monthly phone fee, have that
already. But I have to say, oh my, it has had an impact! It has a much
bigger screen, in color, and NO LIGHT NEEDED!!! (I read a lot at night)
And the absolute best part is that my Kindle app is free so all my previously purchased/downloaded books and Bible translations are still
right there. I will admit….I do love the smell of a book and miss that,
but what a joy the ereader/iPad is to travel with! ๎

Enjoy yours, I am sure you are aware, there are LOTS of FREE books
available too!
My favorite candy bar/indulgence is the Godiva Salted Caramel bar. I don’t have it often, for the obvious price reasons and calorie count, but when I do, I savor every bite!
My favorite skin care product is Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum. It is amazing and makes my skin feel like butter. It really helps smooth out those fine lines. The best thing about Boots, is that you can buy all their products at Target and not pay mall prices….Try it!!!;)
L’Oreal Airbrush Sunless tanner in Medium. Essential.
Shawna…my favorite hand lotion is ‘Shea cashmere’ by bath and body works. It feels so silky and smooth!
That stuff smells so good!
My favorite thing is my coffee cup. Its big and my son bought it from Starbucks for Mother’s Day several years ago. It’s the only one I want to use for my coffee. Everyone in my house knows not to use Mom’s coffee cup!
My favorite scent right now is “Kate Spade”. I wear it everyday. I hesitated to buy it because it was $70 for only 1.7 ounces but it just smells so GOOD and makes me feel pretty and feminine. And it’s lasted a long time because it only takes one spray. Love it!
My favorite “custom” drink from Starbucks is a grande decaf misto with 3 pumps white mocha topped with whip (tastes just like a white mocha but a lot cheaper)
My favorite ice cream EVER is Ben and Jerry’s New York Super Fudge Chunk. This yummy chocolate ice cream is loaded with white & dark fudge chunks, pecans, walnuts & fudge covered almonds! As I walk past the freezer, I imagine that Lady Liberty’s raised hand on the carton is actually her way of waving at me and saying, “Hey good friend…let’s chill together!:)”
My favorite perfume is “Princess” by Vera Wang. If it wouldn’t offend the patients I work with I would spray myself down every single day with it.
BTW…does that lip plumper really even work? It burns like fire! Hot lips. LOL!!
My favorite thing ever is the smell of my children when they wake up from a nap. The little area right behind their ears.
I love the smell of my kids anytime. I could just eat them up.
