(OK, I’m coming back on here about four or so hours after putting up this post so that I can tell you that it turned out to be one of “My Favorite Comment-Sections EVER”! I’m not kidding. You guys are the world’s biggest blast. But, I’m now in the shopping mood again.)
Good Monday Morning, Sweet Things!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and that you were able to observe some Sabbath rest and be still for a few moments, knowing that He is God. I had an usually wonderful weekend with unexpected joys. For starters, this was a weekend off. That means I got to awaken slowly on Saturday with no plans whatsoever then had an impromptu call from Amanda saying that she had a few hours to hang out. Turned out Melissa did, too. (The joys of having her back are too many to count!) As we were trying to think of what we wanted to do (and were shopped out and grossed out at the thought), Amanda said, “Let’s go see Aunt Gay’s new apartment!”ย I’m hoping it won’t be long before you get to know my big sister here on the blog. She has a story that might hit those of us presently slogging around in faithlessness with a fresh bolt of lightening. Her boys (25 and 15) also headed over to her new place at the same time and the thought of us all being together was better than a bubbling plate of cheese enchiladas with chili gravy running all into the rice and beans. (Man, I hate that I just did that to myself.) The six of us were inseparable in the early years when my mom, our Queen of Everything, was still alive and in complete control. (I say that with great affection…and without deception.) I have almost as many pictures of my sister’s boys as I do my own girls. Then a whole lot of life happened and that’s a story for another time. We had a blast together Saturday and laughed our heads off, which has always been a Green (my maiden name) family trait. What we lacked in emotional health, we made up for in humor. As my older brother, Wayne, says, we all have a keen sense of the absurd. And I might add, we earned it.
If you only knew the whole story…but, then again, you could say the same thing to me. Some whole stories don’t need to be told in public but they do indeed need to be redeemed. (To me, the line is drawn where the glory to God and the good to the listeners profoundly exceeds the pain of the testimony. If the listener will likely be left with graphic visuals and oppressive thoughts or pervasive sadness, we need to refrain from telling it in detail. In those occasions, generalities are best. We don’t have to tell people everything to tell them an important something. We also have to be very sensitive to the other people – often family members – whose secrets are inadvertently told as we tells ours. These are HUGE issues that need to be worked through with great sensitivity. Mind you, I’m talking about audiences here. I’m not talking about counseling sessions. We do indeed need to find someone trustworthy and mature in the faith, with a gift for counsel, to hear our whole story.) All this to say, if you’re alive enough to read this blog, you’re story is not yet finished and you’ve got time for a really great turn in the narrative that leads to a brilliant finish. I know that for a fact.
OK, can you switch tracks really fast? I thought we’d do something fun today. I was thinking again yesterday while I was putting on my make up and getting ready for church how ticked I am that L’Oreal discontinued the mascara Melissa and I used to use. It was our favorite EVER and no other mascara does lashes like it did. It’s so annoying when that happens. And what a double whammy after my favorite pen got discontinued! Some of you remember that nail biter. No wonder it’s been such a hard year. (Of course, I’m being ridiculous. I don’t want to insult those of you going through tremendously hard times. Like many of you, last year actually was really rough but, oh, that it would have been over pens and mascaras.) I decided it would be fun today to share your favorite ___________ ever. By all means, don’t share something that’s been discontinued or you will dangle a plastic carrot in front of your Siestas. Beyond that, it can be anything! (Suitable to this blog, of course) It can be your favorite mascara. It can be your favorite book. It can be your favorite recipe. It can be your favorite meal. It can be your favorite memory. It can be your favorite song. Share ONE FAVORITE THING of yours (only 1!) with your Siestas today. It may mean that some of us find a new favorite something this very day.
Start it like this: My favorite (fill-in-your-blank) EVER is… (then, for crying out loud, tell us)
I think this is going to be fun. I’ll start with a really stupid one.
My favorite lip plumper EVER is Sally Hansen “Lip Inflation.” It’s dirt cheap and it feels like you’ve rubbed Tabasco all over your mouth. If it plumps like it hurts, move over Angelina.
What’s your favorite something, Siestas??
My favorite thing EVER (for the moment ๐ ) is Dole Wildly Nutritious Signature Blends Mixed Fruit!! OH, MY!! I keep these little bags of frozen fruit in the freezer and just snack on them randomly. You know how sometimes you just need somthing cold??
Check the freezer section at your local grocery. You won’t be sorry.
Hi! denise from davis here. I JUST got a new FAVORITE EVER! It is Hershey’s Drops YUMMO!!!!
One of my favorite things in life is to crawl into bed between sheets that have been dried on the clothesline. They always smell so fresh and are so crisp. One of life’s best luxuries!!!!!!!!!!!
make them flannel & I agree ๐
That is one of my faves too! I cannot wait until it is spring up here in the Midwest so I can start hanging my sheets and towels outside.
LPM, just wanted to let you know I needed that “STOP IT NOW” (twitter) this morning. Thank You LORD
My favorite foundation is Estee Lauder’s Double Wear makeup. It is pricey, but it stays put for about 16 hours. It is wonderful and looks fresh!
I love my siestas ๐
A few of us around here would agree with you, Gran Jan.
Me too”) Double Wear has been my only foundation for several years now. Pebble”) I love it…pray they never discontinue it….
My favorite of the day is the surprise peanut butter and honey sandwich my 6 year old son made me for breakfast. I ate it and loved every bite, even though I’m trying to whip myself into shape for my sisters wedding in 6 weeks!
CHOCOLATE….Need I say more lol!
My favorite Christian author from the past is C.S. Lewis.
My favorite thing is every night climbing into bed, inbetween cool sheets, laying back on my plumped up pillows with book in hand, and say aloud “Ahhh, Thank You Lord for graciosly getting me thru yet another day that you have made.” Then I begin reading and minutes later, I am sound asleep :-).
My favorite thing at this time is my WET SWIFFER JET!!! It cleans the floor so nice and oh the smell…heavenly!!!
My favorite cookie ever is a warm snicker doodle cookie fresh out of the oven at Root-A-Bakers in Morehead, KY…. so tasty and rejuvinating… and if your thing is sugar cookies then stop in and change you life with one of theirs. What a place!
Melanie
Louisville, KY
My most favorite thing ever is hearing my 6 month old baby girl, Karis, laugh. She just started really chuckling this past month and it is just too much. We just uploaded a video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3OOfF4idks
precious becky! i love that laugh too!!!
Love baby giggles!
So cute!!!! ๐
My favorite perfume is “Beautiful” by Estee Lauder.
My favorite place to be is in my home AFTER I have cleaned it and organized everything. Needless to say I don’t get to be in my favorite place very often with 4 kids and multiple pets.
My favorite thing to do in the evening after dinner has been cooked & dishes are cleaned & I’m ready to finally get comfy & relax…I eat at least two popsicles while I stretch out on the couch & watch tv. My favorite brand is from Braum’s (an ice cream and dairy store we have in OK). The flavors are cherry, grape and orange. My favorite is orange. ๐
My favorite thing is that my kids make me laugh until I cry! Sometimes it is even on purpose.
Hey Ladies, trust me on this one. My favorite cologne is Designer Imposters Confess cologne. It is the Walmart version of Calvin Klein’s Obsession. The scent lasts for the entire day and the best news is that it is less than $9.00 per bottle! I used to wear the real thing, but why would you when you can get all of the compliments and more for a fraction of the price? If you cannot find it at your local Walmart, they have it on Amazon.
my favorite thing ever (i’m sure all of you would agree) is a good Bible study with a bunch of women young and old. my husband says Bible study is my hobby! i guess he’s right! ๐
My husband thinks so too of me.
I attend 4 right now, but of course my favorite is anything Ms Beth wrote, we are doing “Here and Now…There and Then”.
This is my first time visiting the LPM blog! It looks like I am way behind! My accountability group is reading So Long Insecurity together now, and I have been blessed to read the comments of so many–to be reminded that our struggles are common in so many ways to so many and that the Lord redeems. ANYHOW, I have so many favorites, I can hardly contain myself, but I would say that one of my favorite simple pleasures is opening up a perfectly ripe avocado and enjoying it with a liberal amount of sea salt. This is my mana. In terms of makeup–particularly mascara since there have been so many comments–I would have to say L’Oreal Voluminous Volume Building Mascara, in Blackest Black with the curved brush is my favorite! Even more favorite is to have what I call a “good eyelash day” –lashes stay super separated, look long and don’t clump (even after the 10 or so coats I like to add). And then, in terms of “deeper” favorites: hearing my husband laugh & experiencing his joy as we walk and learn through life together; and also, getting a call or visit from one of the young ladies I’ve mentored over the years (they are all in college now) — when I hear about how the Lord is working in their lives, that is one of my favorite things!!
and apparently I don’t know how to enter my own websites, but they are redeemedart.com & my work site, internetsafety101.org
I’m kinda liking this new eyeliner pencil I bought at Neiman Marcus. Mind you, I have a part time job and couldn’t afford it, but have been looking for a good eyeliner for years. It’s made by Mondavi…their product line is called 29. It was 24.00 but that’s nothing compared to me spending the 74 dollars for the blush ..ha ha…Needless to say…I’ll stick to ONLY the pencil next time..Enjoy!!!! and Bless All of You!!
hmm…just one?! ๐ I realize this was posted Monday, but I’ve had a rough week and just now starting it, it feels like, so bare with me. My favorite cookies ever are LOFTHOUSE. I’ve always been in love with the iced ones and not too long ago i learned they also make snickerdoodle and chocolate chip cookies. oh my sweet tooth – they melt in your mouth and are so incredibly SOFT, and delicious…not too sweet, just right. Mmmm….I would be thrilled to find a make-a-like recipe so I could make them at home!
My favorite place to be is the bookstore. I love it. I can spend hours and hours, reading books opening them, touching them and just being in the bookstore. I also love the public library. My kids think is gross that I bring books back from the library. I love the library because I can pick out books that I would normally not read (specially biography’s). I just love books.
My most favorite thing, ever, is my 17-month old grandson Lincoln’s precious giggle. So precious and it reminds me of his daddy when HE was a baby. Thank you, God, for such a precious gift!
My favorite God is YAHWEH. I keep trying others, but there ain’t no high like the MOST HIGH
alba – coconut cream lip gloss, as a topping on Burts’ Bees lip shimmer/rhubarb.
Great combination! The gloss is good alone as well : )
Oooohhh, I’m going to try to get that!
My favorite (__laundry aid__) EVER is “Shout Color Catcher Sheets”!!! Wow, these are amazing and I love to throw one in every load just for good measure. Unfortunately, they extremely hard to find in my little town so I usually stock up when I come across them.
I also love to sew them in behind quilt labels & then I don’t have to worry about the colors in the quilt bleeding & ruining all my work! =0)
I agree!!!
This is a wonderful quilt tip! I am purchasing fabric for future projects – and will definitely add this to my stash!
Linda, They are amazing! Especially since I don’t usually pre-wash my fabric.
that is just too cool! Ive never heard of them. Gonna have to try it. Does it really work with red fabrics?
Yes, although if I’m nervous, I’ve been known to toss in two sheets just to play it safe!
My most favorite VACATION ever was one that I took with my husband. We went on a week-long cruise to the Caribbean to celebrate our 10th anniversary and had a blast! Climbing waterfalls, snorkeling in the Caribbean Sea, and eating until our eyes bulged was absolutely marvelous!
By the way, Beth. I’m thinking of you this weekend as the Duck Commander visits our church and is the guest speaker for our annual Wild Game Dinner. I could just see you and Keith sitting there with us eating venison and swapping wet dog stories! ๐
“Creed” by Rich Mullins…”Creed” by Third Day ๐ and “The Voice of Truth” by Casting Crowns….and one line in particular in a Casting Crowns song, I believe it’s “Lifesong”…”I want to sign Your name to the end of each day, knowing my heart was true…” Oh, Lord, THAT is my prayer!
I’m thinking my new favorite thing is FINDING new favorite things in this list! This is wonderful. I hope we have this much fun in heaven. ๐
Me again, right now reading the favorites of all my Siesta’s and listening to Christian Contemporary Music through the tv in the background. How good is our God Siesta’s!! Blessings blessings blessings brings tears to my eyes. Waiting on husband to come home, house is quiet, time with God and Siesta’s priceless.
Yanna, I agree it is so much fun and such a blessing to read all the favs. God is so good.
Beth I don’t know if you personally get these messages but I am praying to God you do. Either way I have great faith this will find you for I felt lead to contact you several times concerning this question!!!
I am in the middle of doing your Revelation series and hungry for more understanding of the Lord and His wisdom and ways!! I am a very passionate woman of God and He has made me a passionate person across the board!! I praise Him for you for He has shown me He creates others with that kind of passion and through your obedience I feel He has given me direction to follow!!
I need to know the steps to take on deep levels to gain the understanding of the Bible in Hebrew translation! I don’t know where to begin, all I know is He put this desire in my heart 6 years ago and I no longer can ignore the call of ministry from Him and the path He has chosen for me to follow!! I have a 10 month old daughter named Anayah Raquel(God answered the Lamb of God), since He blessed me with her my focus and visions have been made clear and known to me!!
Yet there is one thing that keeps me from being able to make the kind of progress I need to make…direction! I pray you have some words of direction for me, I know the key to success is following others that know the path and how to get there!! You have succeeded in a path I know God has called me to understand, so I am asking….can you please give me what ever direction He lays upon your heart to give to me so I may start the ministry journey He has for me!!
I ask you because well simple..He told me to!!:)
I know you understand that and I thank you so much for you love and unconditional desire to hear from God so that He may do a work through you to do what He has willed to do and be!!!
God bless and much joy and praise in your heart to God be given unto you like a river of rushing water to carry you always!!!
Hey, Cristina! I certainly do understand! If I were you, I’d look for a class to take. If you have access to a city, Google it and maybe you could find one that meets once a week for several hours so that you’re not away from your ten month old too much. If you can’t find one to attend, check for a on-line class in Basic Hebrew. (Old Testament) There are definitely workbooks out there but Hebrew would be really hard to learn and understand on your own. You’d really need to be able to at least watch a DVD or view a class on line. I hope Melissa will someday offer small-group classes here at LPM for basic Hebrew or Greek but right now her hands are full. If you have a little money to spend, you might also look into a good set of in-depth commentaries because many of them refer to the original languages. The Expositor’s Bible Commentary is a great place to start because you don’t need to have any background in languages to understand. It’s something like 12 volumes for the whole Bible and, although it’s still substantial money, it’s not nearly as expensive as the sets that have a separate volume for every book of the Bible. A great library begins just a few books at a time. May God lead you in your pursuit of Him through His Word!
Can I just tell ya’ll that I am at this very minute, printing out this whole blog because for the past couple of days I’ve been reading and wrting down some of your favorites. And then realized it would just be easier to copy the whole blog and read through and use some of your bright ideas! And there have been many!! Beth, what an ever so good idea you had!!
Sandy..thank you for that suggestion. I’m sitting here with a pen and notepad as I read your comment. Printing it off would be so much easier to read. I need to get my highlighter too! lol
My favorite place on earth is sitting poolside in Cabo San Lucas with a cold iced tea and a good book in hand!

I am currently taking the “David” Bible study, and I can’t tell you how much God has blessed this study. My most favorite pie EVER is strawberry rhubarb. I love that stuff. I’ve even had it for my birthday instead of cake. The best “birthday pie” I’ve ever had.
My Favourite scene in the latest Narnia movie The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is Lucy watching the snow come down. That actress really knows how to capture delight and awe in a facial expression. I think my face will look like hers when I finally see the Lover of my soul.
I so agree with you about “Lucy” and her acting! Her expressions when she sees Aslan are priceless and bring me to tears every time! I love the scene in Prince Caspian when she’s dreaming and all of nature is guiding her to Aslan. Beautiful! She personifies child-like faith so well. I hope she is a believer in real life!
One of my favorite days ever was last Saturday when my oldest got married OUTSIDE in FEBRUARY in COLORADO. It was amazing! I love my new daughter in law. What a precious time with family and friends.
My FAVORITE, very best cleaner is Legacy of Clean
Glass cleaner. Cleaning sweet!
My newest favorite thing is that my only grandchild, Savannah, who is 3 l/2 tried to change her beautiful long, curly, sandy hair with a black marker…. she told her mommy, so she would be like her Mimzi (of course Mimzi’s hair is colored too…a black marker would be cheaper!)!! Gave my day a sweet kiss, I love, love being her Mimzi!
My favorite way to start a day: Take a walk outside while listening to worship songs on iPod…followed by breakfast and Bible Study and prayer time on our deck! (this can only happen six months out of the year in Minnesota…)
My favorite person in this world is my sweet husband. He loves me like no one in my life has ever loved me and I am so very thankful for him!
Back when I was eating sugar, it was any rich, gooey brownie with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce, but now I can’t think of any favorite food or product, but I’m having fun reading about all the Siesta’s favorites. This has been a blast!
See’s butterscotch square, Mitford series, riding my horse singing hymns on the trails prince Edward island being wife mom and now a grandma God’s blessings overflow….
