My Favorite (Fill-in-the-Blank) EVER

(OK, I’m coming back on here about four or so hours after putting up this post so that I can tell you that it turned out to be one of “My Favorite Comment-Sections EVER”! I’m not kidding. You guys are the world’s biggest blast. But, I’m now in the shopping mood again.)

Good Monday Morning, Sweet Things!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and that you were able to observe some Sabbath rest and be still for a few moments, knowing that He is God. I had an usually wonderful weekend with unexpected joys. For starters, this was a weekend off. That means I got to awaken slowly on Saturday with no plans whatsoever then had an impromptu call from Amanda saying that she had a few hours to hang out. Turned out Melissa did, too. (The joys of having her back are too many to count!) As we were trying to think of what we wanted to do (and were shopped out and grossed out at the thought), Amanda said, “Let’s go see Aunt Gay’s new apartment!”ย  I’m hoping it won’t be long before you get to know my big sister here on the blog. She has a story that might hit those of us presently slogging around in faithlessness with a fresh bolt of lightening. Her boys (25 and 15) also headed over to her new place at the same time and the thought of us all being together was better than a bubbling plate of cheese enchiladas with chili gravy running all into the rice and beans. (Man, I hate that I just did that to myself.) The six of us were inseparable in the early years when my mom, our Queen of Everything, was still alive and in complete control. (I say that with great affection…and without deception.) I have almost as many pictures of my sister’s boys as I do my own girls. Then a whole lot of life happened and that’s a story for another time. We had a blast together Saturday and laughed our heads off, which has always been a Green (my maiden name) family trait. What we lacked in emotional health, we made up for in humor. As my older brother, Wayne, says, we all have a keen sense of the absurd. And I might add, we earned it.

If you only knew the whole story…but, then again, you could say the same thing to me. Some whole stories don’t need to be told in public but they do indeed need to be redeemed. (To me, the line is drawn where the glory to God and the good to the listeners profoundly exceeds the pain of the testimony. If the listener will likely be left with graphic visuals and oppressive thoughts or pervasive sadness, we need to refrain from telling it in detail. In those occasions, generalities are best. We don’t have to tell people everything to tell them an important something. We also have to be very sensitive to the other people – often family members – whose secrets are inadvertently told as we tells ours. These are HUGE issues that need to be worked through with great sensitivity. Mind you, I’m talking about audiences here. I’m not talking about counseling sessions. We do indeed need to find someone trustworthy and mature in the faith, with a gift for counsel, to hear our whole story.) All this to say, if you’re alive enough to read this blog, you’re story is not yet finished and you’ve got time for a really great turn in the narrative that leads to a brilliant finish. I know that for a fact.

OK, can you switch tracks really fast? I thought we’d do something fun today. I was thinking again yesterday while I was putting on my make up and getting ready for church how ticked I am that L’Oreal discontinued the mascara Melissa and I used to use. It was our favorite EVER and no other mascara does lashes like it did. It’s so annoying when that happens. And what a double whammy after my favorite pen got discontinued! Some of you remember that nail biter. No wonder it’s been such a hard year. (Of course, I’m being ridiculous. I don’t want to insult those of you going through tremendously hard times. Like many of you, last year actually was really rough but, oh, that it would have been over pens and mascaras.) I decided it would be fun today to share your favorite ___________ ever. By all means, don’t share something that’s been discontinued or you will dangle a plastic carrot in front of your Siestas. Beyond that, it can be anything! (Suitable to this blog, of course) It can be your favorite mascara. It can be your favorite book. It can be your favorite recipe. It can be your favorite meal. It can be your favorite memory. It can be your favorite song. Share ONE FAVORITE THING of yours (only 1!) with your Siestas today. It may mean that some of us find a new favorite something this very day.

Start it like this: My favorite (fill-in-your-blank) EVER is… (then, for crying out loud, tell us)

I think this is going to be fun. I’ll start with a really stupid one.

My favorite lip plumper EVER is Sally Hansen “Lip Inflation.” It’s dirt cheap and it feels like you’ve rubbed Tabasco all over your mouth. If it plumps like it hurts, move over Angelina.

What’s your favorite something, Siestas??

My favorite panties are “buck naked” from Duluth Trading Co. They are the best for working out in. On the inside waistband they are printed w/ the phrase “I am a goddess”. Don’t we all need that little reminder?

My favorite vacation EVER was my trip home last Mother’s Day when I got to spend 5 whole days with my son, Benjamin and his darling wifeLauren, who was pregnant. The previous Mother’s Day he was in Iraq and this Mother’s Day he will be in Afghanistan with the Marines. We saw family, stayed at my mom’s, slept little, played cards till the wee hours and laughed till we cried!! What joy family is!!! I still giggle when I think of that trip!

My favorite Christmas memory is being at Christmas Eve services with my parents and singing alto on all the Christmas carols with my mom. I’ve sang those carols many times with my own family – but it is just not the same as singing the alto part with my mom.

My beloved Fiestaware rocks! It is my favorite dishware ever and I have a pretty big collection in loads of colors. (My favorite of all is Persimmon.) I like the new Fiesta better than the old because it’s more durable and I can slam it around when I’m in a hurry or irritated or something, but I do have a few pieces of the old stuff, like my gravy boat.

Luckily there isn’t a Bojangles’ convenient to where I live or I wouldn’t be able to walk….I’d just be one big biscuit!!

Oooooh and I forgot about their BoBerry Biscuits…good too!

My favorite hand held vibrator ever is a Homemedics big ole thang! Get your minds out of the gutter and listen up. I play the violin–for long hours and my back and neck and shoulders almost go dead with numbing pain. When I come home from rehearsals and concerts and gigs full of tension in my muscles my dear Muffin will pull out the Buzzer and press it into my back until the skin heats up and turns almost purple. Then I can feel my real muscles and relax and get a good night’s sleep. These are the appliances with the giant knobs on them, that have infinite speeds and also an option for added heat. Muffin turns it to full throttle, no heat, presses it into the biggest knot in my back and keeps it there until I direct him to move it to the second biggest knot. And so on. I think we have now owned four or five of these wondrous machines.

My favorite comfort food is RED VELVET CAKE. Well, not not really, Red Velvet cake batter. I have been known to make a half recipe of the scrumptious chocolatey sweet treat and sit in a chair with a spoon and eat till my heart’s content. Ah bliss. I have also found it it in cheesecake, yum, and I just say yesterday a red velvet PIE. can’t wait to try that. I used to freeze what I couldn’t eat, but that made it too easy to eat, so I throw away what’s left so I have to make an effort if I want it. I only do this about twice a year, unless, for some reason I’m actually making a CAKE for something.

My favorite thing is to hear that my little two year old granddaughter’s temperature of 103 broke after 5 days of croup and pink eye! My daughter said she was standing with her coat on this morning waiting at the front door to go to the sitter and she was singing, “Alive, Alive, forevermore. My Jesus is alive, alive forevermore.” Praise the Lord for those babies who show us how to praise Jesus!

Oh Beth, you so made me laugh this morning when I read your “you don’t have to tell everything” note. I promptly texted my sister, and she quickly tinged me back…..if it is possible to giggle via text, we were cackling like two ole hens ๎”ฎ (not that we are old of course, just a figure of speech). You would have to know my Mom to appreciate the entire story. ๎

And just as the laughter died it hit me……….YOUR INITIALS ARE BM!

We were off in another fit of giggles…………nuff said?? ๎Œ

My favorite thing is my iPad ๎„„. I am an avid reader ๎…ˆ ……..so it is just the ticket, and it is backlit. I have several versions of the Bible on it, and it is AWESOME to travel with. I loved my Kindle too, and still use the Kindle app, but the iPad is just the best.

……..my ABSOLUTE MOST FAVORITE THING — MY GIRLFRIENDS (especially my sister). I am divorced and they are such a source of Christian love and support, as many of them are also single. I thank Him everyday for them, as well as a church ๎ฝ that supports and embraces a Singles Ministry for those of us over 45. OK, I love the guys in the class too, but let’s face it, THERE AIN’T NOTHING LIKE GIRLFRIENDS. ๎Œจ ๎Œซ ๎Œฌ ๎Œช ๎€ข ๎Œญ ๎Œซ

And YOU Beth are also a favorite. I have learned many eternal and precious truths through you. Most of all, you have shown the world that Our Lord has a great sense of humor.

And it is a good thing you and I love HIM, cause the enemy could have a FIELD DAY with us!!!!

MY Favorite BOOK EVER is Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. I loooove this book and the story it tells of our God! I read it when I was in college and just read it again (8 years later) with my next door neighbor, who is trying to wrap her brain around this whole trusting-God-thing. God is opening up some doors and hearts with this book! Thank you Jesus!

My favorite thing ever (so far in this life) is shopping for my twin granddaughters (first grands) who will be born the end of June or early July. YIPPEEEEEEE. It was our Christmas miracle. I relate to Beth in being picky about pens. My absolute favorite pens are found only at Office Max: They are called TUL pens. Both the Ballpoint and the Gel pens write beautifully. They are retractable with one hand, so smooth, precise, comfortable to hold, and they look cool, too. They last a long time. For anyone who loves to journal and take notes, a great pen makes a big difference.

My favorite smell EVER is the soap the Hospital that I had my son, Noah at uses. I had a C-Section, so I didn’t get to hold my baby boy until about an hour and a half after he was born. When they handed that precious bundle to me he smelled strongly of that soap because all the nurses handling him must have rubbed that soap smell off on his skin. That’s the first thing I remember is smelling his skin and it smelled just like that soap. Now, whenever we go to the doctor I was my hands over and over so that I can smell that smell again. It brings back such sweet memories of my first three days with our son. Just staring, soaking him in, and that smell.

      Meeee tooooo!

Their Dad and I are divorced and he lectured me last week about how the
“boys” (29 and 26) needed to hear my voice. Texting is a great way to communicate…..not the best way to stay in touch but IT SURE BEATS NOT HEARING FROM THEM!
I get 5-6 messages a day and CHERISH every one of them!
I agree though, there is nothing better than hugging ’em in person! ๎„†๎„†๎„†๎„†

When that happens, stick him in his room for “Quiet Time”. That’s what I did when my 3 year old outgrew a nap but my 1 year still needed one. It gives you the time you still need, and allows him his own downtime without the problem of having to take a nap.

My favorite restaurant is “Mr. Joe’s” in Fairfax, VA. Created by my 6-yr-old son last night in our kitchen. The Lord provided a precious time for him, the princess and myself to quietly play before bedtime and the chef created invisible “Grizzly Bear Fish” with the wildest assortment of spices you’ve ever heard. He presented it with “you are my first guest! Wait – I’m just gonna rinse off all the gross stuff – here you go!” Then smiled with pride as I tasted. When I offered him a bite, he said it was “waaaaaay tasty” then asked if I liked to dance because his restaurant included a big dance room and even a hide-and-seek room in the back. It was awesome.
