(OK, I’m coming back on here about four or so hours after putting up this post so that I can tell you that it turned out to be one of “My Favorite Comment-Sections EVER”! I’m not kidding. You guys are the world’s biggest blast. But, I’m now in the shopping mood again.)
Good Monday Morning, Sweet Things!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and that you were able to observe some Sabbath rest and be still for a few moments, knowing that He is God. I had an usually wonderful weekend with unexpected joys. For starters, this was a weekend off. That means I got to awaken slowly on Saturday with no plans whatsoever then had an impromptu call from Amanda saying that she had a few hours to hang out. Turned out Melissa did, too. (The joys of having her back are too many to count!) As we were trying to think of what we wanted to do (and were shopped out and grossed out at the thought), Amanda said, “Let’s go see Aunt Gay’s new apartment!”ย I’m hoping it won’t be long before you get to know my big sister here on the blog. She has a story that might hit those of us presently slogging around in faithlessness with a fresh bolt of lightening. Her boys (25 and 15) also headed over to her new place at the same time and the thought of us all being together was better than a bubbling plate of cheese enchiladas with chili gravy running all into the rice and beans. (Man, I hate that I just did that to myself.) The six of us were inseparable in the early years when my mom, our Queen of Everything, was still alive and in complete control. (I say that with great affection…and without deception.) I have almost as many pictures of my sister’s boys as I do my own girls. Then a whole lot of life happened and that’s a story for another time. We had a blast together Saturday and laughed our heads off, which has always been a Green (my maiden name) family trait. What we lacked in emotional health, we made up for in humor. As my older brother, Wayne, says, we all have a keen sense of the absurd. And I might add, we earned it.
If you only knew the whole story…but, then again, you could say the same thing to me. Some whole stories don’t need to be told in public but they do indeed need to be redeemed. (To me, the line is drawn where the glory to God and the good to the listeners profoundly exceeds the pain of the testimony. If the listener will likely be left with graphic visuals and oppressive thoughts or pervasive sadness, we need to refrain from telling it in detail. In those occasions, generalities are best. We don’t have to tell people everything to tell them an important something. We also have to be very sensitive to the other people – often family members – whose secrets are inadvertently told as we tells ours. These are HUGE issues that need to be worked through with great sensitivity. Mind you, I’m talking about audiences here. I’m not talking about counseling sessions. We do indeed need to find someone trustworthy and mature in the faith, with a gift for counsel, to hear our whole story.) All this to say, if you’re alive enough to read this blog, you’re story is not yet finished and you’ve got time for a really great turn in the narrative that leads to a brilliant finish. I know that for a fact.
OK, can you switch tracks really fast? I thought we’d do something fun today. I was thinking again yesterday while I was putting on my make up and getting ready for church how ticked I am that L’Oreal discontinued the mascara Melissa and I used to use. It was our favorite EVER and no other mascara does lashes like it did. It’s so annoying when that happens. And what a double whammy after my favorite pen got discontinued! Some of you remember that nail biter. No wonder it’s been such a hard year. (Of course, I’m being ridiculous. I don’t want to insult those of you going through tremendously hard times. Like many of you, last year actually was really rough but, oh, that it would have been over pens and mascaras.) I decided it would be fun today to share your favorite ___________ ever. By all means, don’t share something that’s been discontinued or you will dangle a plastic carrot in front of your Siestas. Beyond that, it can be anything! (Suitable to this blog, of course) It can be your favorite mascara. It can be your favorite book. It can be your favorite recipe. It can be your favorite meal. It can be your favorite memory. It can be your favorite song. Share ONE FAVORITE THING of yours (only 1!) with your Siestas today. It may mean that some of us find a new favorite something this very day.
Start it like this: My favorite (fill-in-your-blank) EVER is… (then, for crying out loud, tell us)
I think this is going to be fun. I’ll start with a really stupid one.
My favorite lip plumper EVER is Sally Hansen “Lip Inflation.” It’s dirt cheap and it feels like you’ve rubbed Tabasco all over your mouth. If it plumps like it hurts, move over Angelina.
What’s your favorite something, Siestas??
My favorite thing is late afternoon in the summer, with the windows open, a beautiful breeze blowing and the sound of cicada’s in the background. It takes me back to my childhood with memories at my grandparents house and the home in the country my parents had for 25 yrs.
I’m late, as usual, but this is a great post. Love all the comments! My favorite skin care line is M.Asam with grape seed extract..wonderful stuff!
black cowboys boots that’ve walked me through twenty years of adventure…had them repaired several times…along with my heart, soul and mind on occassion. Oh the places we’ve been…I love my boots.
On the evening of our 37th wedding anniversary, my favorite thing was sharing with our home group of young couples about communication. We are the story of a redeemed marriage and sharing His Hope to the hopeless this very night. On the way home, instead of of buying me a card, my husband, Pastor Rick, told me all the ways he loved me and stopped and bought my a Sonic coke (in my top five favorite things). To God be the glory!
He is now asleep and I am smiling as I read all of your comments..oh the sweetness of being married a long, long time!
I’m not really a morning person. (O.k. that’s the understatement of a lifetime.) But, every now and then, I…seem to wake up on the right side of the bed?
Just the freshness, the newness of the day, the warm sunshine or the crisp, cool air. It’s my favorite thing because of how alive it makes me feel. I like those moments with God.
My favorite nail product is SpaRitual Multi-tasker base and topcoat in one. No DBP, no formaldahyde, no toluene
My Favorite place to relax…..Sitting on the beach, toes squishing the sand….looking out at the beautiful shades of blue in the water and sky….and white puffy clouds are a bonus!!!!!
My favorite thing to do is to look at beautiful houses (I blame it on my architect mom). On my way home from church on Sundays, I go out of the way to drive through this really beautiful neighborhood in San Francisco so I can look at the houses. I would never want to furnish, clean, or pay for a big house, but I love looking at them!
These are a few of my favorite things, raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens… Favorite song. I loved Bath and Bodyworks, Plumeria lotion and body spray, it has been replaced with Sweet Pea, which I love the name, I still call my grown daughter that. But oddly enough it does not smell as sweet. My favorite Bible Study is Tuesday nite with Beth at First Baptist.
One of my favorite things EVER is the smile of my toddler when i pick him up and the cooing and smiles of my newborn everytime I look at her. Christ’s ove is alive.
My favorite book EVER is “Redeeming Love” by Francine Rivers! I’ve read it four times over the last 3 years since I bought it, and read it at least once a year. Such an awesome depiction of God’s love for me! ๐
Mine too! And I’ve lent it to every girlfriend I have- it is well worn & well loved!
A friend of mine gave it to me about 4 years ago and I never read it!!! You guys are inspiring me to pick it up and read it ๐
After reading this was so many’s favorite book, I found it yesterday at the Goodwill bookstore for $2.99! Can’t wait to start it!
Best Christian book EVER! Hands down!! You will LOVE it!
One of my favorite things is good soft wool or alpaca or mohair. Yarn, blankets, sweaters, you name it. I love the feeling of being wrapped in something cozy and warm. Especially if it is something that I have made with my own two hands.
My favorite book EVER is Same Kind of Different as Me.
I love this book too! What a story it tells! Wish I had known this beautiful lady.
My favorite sound ~ rain during the night. I wake up enough to hear it, and fall asleep smiling.
My favorite drink ~ Starbuck’s Chai Frap ~ with whipped cream, of course! while on vacation.
My favorite vacation? Blowing Rock, North Carolina!
My favorite fragrance? Rolling down the windows and smelling the fresh clover/fir tree mix when I get in the mountains!
Starbucks makes a Chai Frap? How did I not know this????
“If it plumps like it hurts, move over Angelina.” I’m laughing so hard at this that I can’t even think of anything.
Miss Beth — My daughter and I started buying the Loreal mascara after Melissa posted on this blog how good it was….we LOVED it too and were also disappointed (ok, rip-roaring ANGRY) when we couldnt find it! Sigh……
But my favorite is a food — and it is local to the eastern part of the country — called a Pierogie ๐
They are dough pockets filled with mashed potatoes and longhorn cheese then sauteed in butter and onoins….can you see why we love them?! Anyway, my husband says it is amazing that I can not finish a bowl of soup but can eat a dozen pierogies — and I can ๐ Hope your day is filled with “Son”shine! Love you!
Dawn, we have perogies too! I live in Alberta, Canada and my mother-in-law used to make them from scratch. They are yummy!
How fun!!! Aren’t the?? They need to be a world-wide delacacie ๐ And you can cheat and make Perogie Lasagna….alsmost as good ๐ Happy day Lynn!
We had them for dinner last night…..must have bacon and sour cream with them!!! Yummmm!!!
Hi Leanne! Another fan — yea for us ๐ A feast for the taste buds, if not for the circulatory system! Have a wonderful weekend ๐
I have created an Excel spreadsheet with all these wonderful “favorites” (excluding the intangibles like ‘baby giggles’) and they are categorized by lips, eyes, nails, body, food, drink, books, etc. I also did not put all those froo froo Starbuck drinks — I love BLACK COFFEE — because when I started doing this, it was just for me. If you would like a copy of the spreadsheet, please e-mail me at [email protected]. It’s my spam mailbox so I don’t mind publishing it here. Just put “Beth Moore Favorites” in the subject line so I can quickly find the “real” e-mail amongst the junk and I’ll send it to you.
a woman after my own heart. i. heart. spreadsheets. ๐
I just have to say that I have 6 pages of notes from these posts. I ordered a few things on Amazon yesterday and last night I went to Target with my list! Nothing like recommendations for your siestas! This was a great idea Beth — you should get a cut of profits on all these products!
I know. I have a notecard and its filling up and I’ve only been through a couple of pages!
My FAVORITE hairspray ever is Aerogel!!! It even held in the humidity of Walt Disney World – in one of the pictures you could see how sweaty my face was, but my hair was perfect. ๐
where does one find this amazing hairspray?
http://www.alphabeauty.com/shopping/pricelist.asp?prid=9488
Thanks for posting that link, Shannon! What I buy at my local salon costs about $17 for the same size posted on your link. The product lasts me about 2 months. I am normally not a expensive hair product person, but this hairspray holds/lifts/volumizes like none other. Love, love, love it! The best thing is that the last time I bought some -my stylist threw in a free purse size. It is reserved as my “oops, I forgot to buy more Aerogel stash”.
You can also find it at Admiral Beauty Supply in Tulsa, OK for $12.99 (www.admiralbeauty.com).
I love a fresh rainstorm in the desert which brings out my favorite smell of wet sage. It’s oh so heavenly.
There are lots of favorites, but I love cozying up on teh couch under a homemade quilt when it’s raining. It’s the perfect time to read, meditate, sleep or enjoy a good girly movie…
My favorite place to go in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD is the DISNEY PARKS! To me, they are TRULY THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH! When I go there I forget ALL yukky things going on in this world!
Right there with you, Kristi. Next trip is 46 days away!
My favorite thing is having my children and their spouses under the same roof and laughing/talking/eating together.
Hands down winner for me in cosmetics: Cover Girl Outlast Lipstick #521(favorite shade of red). Trust me, this lipstick won’t kiss off, eat off or wear off. You only have to apply it once and then top it off with the included moisturing gloss stick. I find if you wait for the 50% off sale you get the best price at Walgreens. Other than that, best everyday price is…you guessed it! Wal-Mart.
Hugs,
Pam H.
My favortie moments are snuggling. With my Hubby or with my sweet babies…I LOVE a good cuddle!
My favorite perfume scent is Odyssey by Avon. It’s my classic.
My favorite…. (so many things to narrow it down to..) let’s go with: Movie ever!
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
One of my favorite things is when my little two and a half year old boy tells me he loves me! ๐
My favorite dance. Was with my husband at a wedding recently. He loves to dip and twirl me and makes me laugh so hard I cry and then have to hang on while he continues to dip and twirl me…
aww- that’s so sweet! We just tried with friends to have ballroom dancing. Let’s just say I quickly learned that is NOT for us when I continually tried to lead & I don’t think what we were doing could be called twirls & dipping! lol
I love the smell of the earth after a rain shower, the smell of fresh cut hay and the smell of a new born baby.
My favorite drink is Sweet Tea from Sonic…..with EXTRA ice!!
My favorite “I Love Lucy” episode is when Lucy & Ricky are departing for Europe by oceanliner and Lucy misses the boat because she has to hug Little Ricky one more time and her skirt gets caught in a bicycle messenger’s spokes. She has to take off her skirt and does the rest of the show with her slip showing! The whole episode cracks me up.
My favorite hand lotion is ‘Look Ma New Hands” by Bath & Body works- love, love, love it!!
Oh, I love that too. I wish they would come out with a body lotion in the same scent.
My favorite ice cream ever….
Baskin Robbins Jamoca Almond Fudge…mmmmmmm

I’m so late…. but I still wanted to play…

I absolutely LOVE that book!! And now I’m in love with the name Katniss lol ๐
One of my favorite places in the whole wide world is Central Park in New York City. Grab a yummy salad from Le Pain Quotidien and eat it in Sheep Meadow. GLORIOUS!
Hi Beth,
Just wanted to say that I am so tremendously blessed by your ministry. I watch you on Wednesdays with Beth and receive a word every time I hear you.
Thank you for being obedient to God’s call on your life.
My favorite time of the day EVER is the early morning, when all is quiet around the house and I can hear the Lord’s whisper more clearly. Cup of coffee in hand.
My favorite frozen yogurt is coconut from Orange Leaf!
My favorite ever is…. Simply Orange orange juice! It’s the best! ๐
YES! No comparison. ๐
Oh – I’m late to the party, but I had to make a comment – my favorite grilled cheese ever can be found at Joseph’s in Charleston, SC. On sour dough with sharp & white cheddar cheeses plus tomatoes & fresh basil. It is heavenly!
I am NOT too tall, but tall enough that when I want to take a bubble bath, either my knees or my shoulders are freezing. One time my husband and I had a night away from the children and went to this really old Bed and Breakfast in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They put us in a room with the biggest tub, because I requested it and brought my bubble bath. I was overjoyed to find that the tub I was using was the original tub that was used when it was a YWCA in the 50’s and 60’s and before that it was in the home of a very rich family in the 1800’s. That tub was my most favorite EVER because it was a six foot, iron, claw foot tub, that I could fit my WHOLE body in at one time. So that tub and bubble bath was the BEST EVER.
Our first house had a tub like that. I would have loved to move it with us when we sold the house, but……….
Oh, if only we could just start making those tubs again and installing them in our homes, they are simply the best type of tub to have a lovely bubble bath, sigh ๐
My favorite cologne is Oscar de la Renta. It doesn’t mess with my allergies, and now, I can get it at Walgreeens!
My favorite ever is coffee w/ French Vanilla Cream. Heaven!
Ben & Jerry’s Coffee Heath Bar Crunch!
I have a favorite lip liner that I have been wearing for many years ….I’ve tried more expensive brands, but keep coming back to this one (and why not if it saves me $$!)…Wet & Wild Creme lipliner and my favorite shade is Chestnut #711. and since they’re so cheap ($1 or less), I keep can them in different places (purse, car, make-up bag, etc).
PS~I’ve loved reading everyone else’s “favorites”!! ๐
My favorite feeling is Sunshine on my shoulder while I’m listening to a mockingbird’s songs. This never fails to zoom me back to my carefree childhood walking barefoot in the north Florida sand.
Hilda in Pearland
My favorite ice cream brand ever is Ben and Jerry’s (I couldn’t possibly pick one flavor!).
OK..I needed eyemake up remover so I took the suggestion of a few women here and bought Almay non-oily remover.
Those who need a new mascara, try Falsies by Maybeline ( you will need eye make up remover).
Finally, will you all please lift me up in prayer on Saturday. We are having an Intentional Sisterhood Conference, and I am doing a session on Eliminating Negative Self-Talk. Beth Moore and Joyce Meyer and the Bible are my resources. Thing is this is my FIRST ever and this is out of my comfort zone, but I know God is using me. Thanks so much.
how’d it go?
My favorite cleaning products EVER are Mrs. Meyer’s Geranium scent! Makes me love washing dishes! Check it out: http://www.mrsmeyers.com/Fragrance/Geranium
