My Favorite (Fill-in-the-Blank) EVER

(OK, I’m coming back on here about four or so hours after putting up this post so that I can tell you that it turned out to be one of “My Favorite Comment-Sections EVER”! I’m not kidding. You guys are the world’s biggest blast. But, I’m now in the shopping mood again.)

Good Monday Morning, Sweet Things!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and that you were able to observe some Sabbath rest and be still for a few moments, knowing that He is God. I had an usually wonderful weekend with unexpected joys. For starters, this was a weekend off. That means I got to awaken slowly on Saturday with no plans whatsoever then had an impromptu call from Amanda saying that she had a few hours to hang out. Turned out Melissa did, too. (The joys of having her back are too many to count!) As we were trying to think of what we wanted to do (and were shopped out and grossed out at the thought), Amanda said, “Let’s go see Aunt Gay’s new apartment!”  I’m hoping it won’t be long before you get to know my big sister here on the blog. She has a story that might hit those of us presently slogging around in faithlessness with a fresh bolt of lightening. Her boys (25 and 15) also headed over to her new place at the same time and the thought of us all being together was better than a bubbling plate of cheese enchiladas with chili gravy running all into the rice and beans. (Man, I hate that I just did that to myself.) The six of us were inseparable in the early years when my mom, our Queen of Everything, was still alive and in complete control. (I say that with great affection…and without deception.) I have almost as many pictures of my sister’s boys as I do my own girls. Then a whole lot of life happened and that’s a story for another time. We had a blast together Saturday and laughed our heads off, which has always been a Green (my maiden name) family trait. What we lacked in emotional health, we made up for in humor. As my older brother, Wayne, says, we all have a keen sense of the absurd. And I might add, we earned it.

If you only knew the whole story…but, then again, you could say the same thing to me. Some whole stories don’t need to be told in public but they do indeed need to be redeemed. (To me, the line is drawn where the glory to God and the good to the listeners profoundly exceeds the pain of the testimony. If the listener will likely be left with graphic visuals and oppressive thoughts or pervasive sadness, we need to refrain from telling it in detail. In those occasions, generalities are best. We don’t have to tell people everything to tell them an important something. We also have to be very sensitive to the other people – often family members – whose secrets are inadvertently told as we tells ours. These are HUGE issues that need to be worked through with great sensitivity. Mind you, I’m talking about audiences here. I’m not talking about counseling sessions. We do indeed need to find someone trustworthy and mature in the faith, with a gift for counsel, to hear our whole story.) All this to say, if you’re alive enough to read this blog, you’re story is not yet finished and you’ve got time for a really great turn in the narrative that leads to a brilliant finish. I know that for a fact.

OK, can you switch tracks really fast? I thought we’d do something fun today. I was thinking again yesterday while I was putting on my make up and getting ready for church how ticked I am that L’Oreal discontinued the mascara Melissa and I used to use. It was our favorite EVER and no other mascara does lashes like it did. It’s so annoying when that happens. And what a double whammy after my favorite pen got discontinued! Some of you remember that nail biter. No wonder it’s been such a hard year. (Of course, I’m being ridiculous. I don’t want to insult those of you going through tremendously hard times. Like many of you, last year actually was really rough but, oh, that it would have been over pens and mascaras.) I decided it would be fun today to share your favorite ___________ ever. By all means, don’t share something that’s been discontinued or you will dangle a plastic carrot in front of your Siestas. Beyond that, it can be anything! (Suitable to this blog, of course) It can be your favorite mascara. It can be your favorite book. It can be your favorite recipe. It can be your favorite meal. It can be your favorite memory. It can be your favorite song. Share ONE FAVORITE THING of yours (only 1!) with your Siestas today. It may mean that some of us find a new favorite something this very day.

Start it like this: My favorite (fill-in-your-blank) EVER is… (then, for crying out loud, tell us)

I think this is going to be fun. I’ll start with a really stupid one.

My favorite lip plumper EVER is Sally Hansen “Lip Inflation.” It’s dirt cheap and it feels like you’ve rubbed Tabasco all over your mouth. If it plumps like it hurts, move over Angelina.

What’s your favorite something, Siestas??

My favorite lipstick is L’Oreals Color Riches #625, Mystic Mauve(promise it’s NOT pink!). I do not like the lipstick you have to take off with makeup remover!!
And I have 4 sisters and we ALWAYS take a “sister” picture when we are together. One day last year we all needed to put lips on, because after a certain age they disappear without artificial help, for the picture. My 3rd sister had this lipstick and darn if it did not look GREAT on ALL 5 of us. We were all shocked. And, yes I will cry if it is discontinued!!

Chocolate is forever my favorite food. We recently had a friend visiting and she kept saying “I have never heard of putting chocolate in ___.” My response was “You are at the B’s house, so you should know we put chocolate in just about everything.” Wondering what I am talking about. Well I made chocolate tapioca, have chocolate yogurt, made chocolate roll (cinnamon rolls with chocolate instead of cinnamon.), chocolate smoothies, etc. I have even been known to put a little in spaghetti sauce. I sure you get the idea. Ok, now that I am craving chocolate, I think I will get on the exercise bike before I eat something I shouldn’t. Oh yes I forgot if something already has chocolate in it I usually find a way to add more. ok, now the bike is really calling my name.

My favorite vacation destination (thus far) is Berlin, Germany. I went there with low expectations only because the whole WW2 history has never really captured my attention. (Went more for the company than the sights.) But everything I saw and learned while I was there was amazing. I left Berlin with an appreciation for the history of that city, how they’ve tried to move on (since the war and since the wall came down), and a greater understanding of how the wall impacted families and the Christian church. All I can say is WOW! Ich bin ein Berliner! 🙂

Yes, I am in love with KADEWE myself! Cannot go there to often though!

The church is being renovated at the moment so you should come back and have a second look!

My favorite thing right now is remembering what my little 4 1/2 year old grand-boy said, when I was patting him on the shoulder, while he was coloring so intently. I said to him, you are such as angel. To that he replied, “I not no angel, but I was a shepherd in the Christmas play.”

Thank you God for letting me enjoy my husband’s grandchildren.

    .
We arrived at the women’s retreat and the view was beautiful in the mountains surrounded with trees and streams of water. The cabin we had chosen for our group of ladies seem just perfect. Outside the window you could see a huge, white cross on top of the mountain. There was also a nice pinic area where we could sit and enjoy talking.

It was not long before we got settled in and started our journey. Somehow, we all expected God to just greet us here.

In the quiet times and in the worship time, we were always looking for Him to show up in our lives. We looked for Him to rescue those who were broken hearted, we looked for Him to tear down the walls and build a place of peace and contentment, we looked for Him to bring joy into our busy, everyday lives, and we looked for Him to stretch His arms out to us and say, ” Come, I am Here.”

Our time with God was special. We sang our songs in praise and worship. Some held hands and gave hugs. Others lifted their hands with their eyes closed so nothing would distract them. Their hearts had melted and God’s touched their lives.

And finally a speaker that gave God’s Word. Words that seem to flow, to speak to hearts, and lead to prayer.

It was the sound of God’s voice echoing into the minds and hearts of those around. As He spoke to all of us, we could see the changes that were taken place, the restoration, the letting go and the peace of His presence within each one. We saw lives that were broken, now healed,_ walls that were built, now torn down, and a joy that passes our own understanding. Women who came to the cross of Jesus and placed their burdens in the hands of God. Women who prayed for forgiveness with heartfelt tears. Women who left their homes and families behind, for just a day to follow Christ_yet, find Him in their darkest hour. Women who came searching for Hope that would go with them the rest of their lives and touch others around them.

God had shown up_in our lives and He reached out with His love. And yet, when it came to leave and go back home we hesitated, but then we remembered His presence is with us always.
So, we carried our thoughts, our praise, our peace and joy back home with us. We know it will effect who we are, but it will effect our family and friends around us as well_for we have spent time with Our God.
My favorite place is with God somewhere special in the mountains.

    My Favoite poem EVER:

    A day at the fair

    Physics and Astrologers…….
For you I have some questions:
What to do is what I ask
Of the outcome of your projections?

Like if they predict the future
By watching stars to tell the way
But what if it is foggy???
Do they make it up that day?

    What of all the constellations
That they’re using for a sign
    Should it be misinterpreted???
(what if it’s the same as mine?)

What if you do not tell me…
    of what will come instead:
What if the sign meant shouldn’t
(Could I not end up dead?)

I did once have a meeting
With a psychic at the fair
I was needing a lot of help
    (and she was standing there)

    ‘I can do a reading
Just by looking in my ball
    Or what your aura’s saying
Yes; I can see it all’

Her sign said knows all tells all sees all
    But she… just didn’t know
Of that which I was seeking…..
And where I needed to go

    It wasn’t that my problem
    Needing solving by a sleuth
    (I just needed a restroom)
    ….located right behind her booth

    I didn’t feel to comfortable
    Of a psychic intervention
How could I trust my future….
If a restroom’s not in mention?

I realize that it’s all in fun
To see what they have to say
But if you do believe them…..
They change your life that way

    Just for kicks and giggles
    I grabbed a Bible copy
    Opened up and pointed
    (And yes this methods sloppy)

    But just like reading horoscope
You can interpret as you will
But this is just the history
    …..Of people that are real

    Mostly it’s the story
Of people who wanted to know
    They used psychics and astrologers
To tell which way to go

    It’s also has predictions…..
    Starting way back when
With perfect accuracy to the tee
That goes from now to then

It connects you to the spirit world
And you say ’wow, this sounds like me
    I’m in that situation……
And I can see what comes to be

And suppose you should believe it
You know: give an equal glance
    Just a couple little phrases
    About your daily chance

    I mean it’s only positive
    Despite what you have heard
And the logic you can’t argue
Because it’s written down in word

    I don’t want religion
    To spoil my psychic fun
And tell me not to seek
    Of a higher powered one

    Sorry psychics and astrologers
But I have no need of you
    For you can’t answer questions
    That I’m needin’ answers to

    I’d rather trust in readings
That have been passed throughout the ages
    Nothing changed or altered
That is written on those pages

    It’s becoming clearer
    …I’m responsible for me
And I should find my future
And should be the one to see

I hope there’s no hard feelings
We’re both seeking now the same
but if I go with your predictions
…I’d be the one to blame

I don’t want to risk it
So if I do as ‘they ‘ have done
    I’ll connect to spirit
    You know…..the blameless one

    If we’re hangin’ out together
I’ve the answers to my seeking
It can guide me to the REST room
    (metaphorically speaking)

One thing that is made clear
    unlike your crystal ball
    I can read on further
    Yes….I can see it all

My favorite thing, Chocolate of course! I wrote this right after Valentine’s Day, hope you enjoy it.

    Alright, I confess

I ate the last piece of chocolate and licked the bottom of the box

and if I had the chance I would do it again, I’m sly as a fox

Afterall, chocolate is a girl’s best friend.

It just kept starring me in the face,

and saying eat me, eat me_slowly at your own pace,

So, what chance did I have

my mouth started drulling and my tongue hung out in disgrace.

I finally gave in and took it out of its misery and set it free__

That’s all I could do, wouldn’t you if you were me?

Each bite tasted just like the first, melting in my mouth

then, I heard footsteps and I knew it was not a mouse

It was my husband and my kids coming in the house

Oops, I swallowed the last piece as fast as I could

Although, the chocolate was all over my face and I tried to look as harmless as I should

I was caught eating the last piece boy, was it_ worth it,

Although my family may not forgive me and throw a fit

    Chocolate is my best friend__

And will be until the very last bite,

I hid another box for tomorrow and it is hidden out of sight!

Destem = tear the leaves from the main stem. Use the leaves only and
tear them or cut them into smaller pieces.
Combine the following ingredients for dressing and pour over leaves:

3 tablespoons extra virgin cold pressed olive oil
2 tablespoon raw apple cider vinegar (Braggs brand is best)
    2 tablespoons honey
    1 teaspoon sea salt
1½ teaspoons garlic powder or 2 minced garlic cloves
    ⅛-¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper

Optional to add any of the following:
Chopped onions, raisins, cranberries, tomatoes, peppers, shredded
carrots, raw sunflower seeds, raw cashews.
My favorite combination is to add raw sunflower seeds, a little chopped onion and
    shredded carrots.
Let set for atleast 2 hours with dressing before eating.
This keeps for 2 days in the refrig well.
