(OK, I’m coming back on here about four or so hours after putting up this post so that I can tell you that it turned out to be one of “My Favorite Comment-Sections EVER”! I’m not kidding. You guys are the world’s biggest blast. But, I’m now in the shopping mood again.)
Good Monday Morning, Sweet Things!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and that you were able to observe some Sabbath rest and be still for a few moments, knowing that He is God. I had an usually wonderful weekend with unexpected joys. For starters, this was a weekend off. That means I got to awaken slowly on Saturday with no plans whatsoever then had an impromptu call from Amanda saying that she had a few hours to hang out. Turned out Melissa did, too. (The joys of having her back are too many to count!) As we were trying to think of what we wanted to do (and were shopped out and grossed out at the thought), Amanda said, “Let’s go see Aunt Gay’s new apartment!”ย I’m hoping it won’t be long before you get to know my big sister here on the blog. She has a story that might hit those of us presently slogging around in faithlessness with a fresh bolt of lightening. Her boys (25 and 15) also headed over to her new place at the same time and the thought of us all being together was better than a bubbling plate of cheese enchiladas with chili gravy running all into the rice and beans. (Man, I hate that I just did that to myself.) The six of us were inseparable in the early years when my mom, our Queen of Everything, was still alive and in complete control. (I say that with great affection…and without deception.) I have almost as many pictures of my sister’s boys as I do my own girls. Then a whole lot of life happened and that’s a story for another time. We had a blast together Saturday and laughed our heads off, which has always been a Green (my maiden name) family trait. What we lacked in emotional health, we made up for in humor. As my older brother, Wayne, says, we all have a keen sense of the absurd. And I might add, we earned it.
If you only knew the whole story…but, then again, you could say the same thing to me. Some whole stories don’t need to be told in public but they do indeed need to be redeemed. (To me, the line is drawn where the glory to God and the good to the listeners profoundly exceeds the pain of the testimony. If the listener will likely be left with graphic visuals and oppressive thoughts or pervasive sadness, we need to refrain from telling it in detail. In those occasions, generalities are best. We don’t have to tell people everything to tell them an important something. We also have to be very sensitive to the other people – often family members – whose secrets are inadvertently told as we tells ours. These are HUGE issues that need to be worked through with great sensitivity. Mind you, I’m talking about audiences here. I’m not talking about counseling sessions. We do indeed need to find someone trustworthy and mature in the faith, with a gift for counsel, to hear our whole story.) All this to say, if you’re alive enough to read this blog, you’re story is not yet finished and you’ve got time for a really great turn in the narrative that leads to a brilliant finish. I know that for a fact.
OK, can you switch tracks really fast? I thought we’d do something fun today. I was thinking again yesterday while I was putting on my make up and getting ready for church how ticked I am that L’Oreal discontinued the mascara Melissa and I used to use. It was our favorite EVER and no other mascara does lashes like it did. It’s so annoying when that happens. And what a double whammy after my favorite pen got discontinued! Some of you remember that nail biter. No wonder it’s been such a hard year. (Of course, I’m being ridiculous. I don’t want to insult those of you going through tremendously hard times. Like many of you, last year actually was really rough but, oh, that it would have been over pens and mascaras.) I decided it would be fun today to share your favorite ___________ ever. By all means, don’t share something that’s been discontinued or you will dangle a plastic carrot in front of your Siestas. Beyond that, it can be anything! (Suitable to this blog, of course) It can be your favorite mascara. It can be your favorite book. It can be your favorite recipe. It can be your favorite meal. It can be your favorite memory. It can be your favorite song. Share ONE FAVORITE THING of yours (only 1!) with your Siestas today. It may mean that some of us find a new favorite something this very day.
Start it like this: My favorite (fill-in-your-blank) EVER is… (then, for crying out loud, tell us)
I think this is going to be fun. I’ll start with a really stupid one.
My favorite lip plumper EVER is Sally Hansen “Lip Inflation.” It’s dirt cheap and it feels like you’ve rubbed Tabasco all over your mouth. If it plumps like it hurts, move over Angelina.
What’s your favorite something, Siestas??
My favorite sound in the world is hearing any or all of our four grown children (21-28) walking in the back door of our home! Even better if our son-in-law and grandbaby are with them! I know the house is gonna be filled with love and laughter!
My favorite thing in all the world is hearing the words “I love you Nana”!!!
AMEN… I am not a grandma.. I am just the aunt… but all my life I have been called Nana.. and I just love hearing I LOVE YOU NANA! by my nieces…
My favorite pie is Million Dollar Pie. I can’t begin to describe how wonderful it is. All I can say is move over Ratatouille. Yum to the 10th power!
My favorite bible study ever is Believing God! So many others have moved me and led me to grow but I continue to lift my hand and wiggle my fingers while I recount truth in the face of life’s challenges from this study more than any other study: God is who He says He is. He can do what He says He can do. I am who He says I am. I can do all things in Christ. God’s word is alive and active in me! And I’m believing God!
(It was a tough call between that and Breaking Free–also my very very favorite, but it all begins with the right foundation!)
My favorite vacation memory – touring New Mexico with my folks back in 1983, in late October. Beautiful weather and scenery. It snowed early and we were driving through beautiful flakes of snow. Peaceful. So happy. Great trip.
My favorite skin care system EVER is Evan Healy skin care. It’s like being at the spa every stinkin day! ๐
My favorite word in regards to relationship is CHERISH! To my ears it embodies all I desire in a relationship.
My favorite Starbucks is a hot White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha, it’s the best at Christmas time!
My all-time favorite, go to website for finding new recipes is http://www.allrecipes.com. It’s rare that I don’t find some new, intriguing recipe and the reviews and comments are a huge help before committing to trying something new and different!
My favorite hot chocolate EVER is Sarabeth’s Hot Chocolate Parisienne and I am quite the hot chocolate connoisseur. I actually bought this north of Houston at a kitchen shop in the Woodlands while visiting my daughter at Christmas. It is made in a bakery/restaurant in New York. I am seriously thinking of ordering some more online even with the price. It is that good! So all you Siesta hot chocolate fans, check it out. You will love it! Great idea Beth for a fun way to end the weekend. Denise (Mima Siesta) Deming, NM
My favorite candle scent ever is Trapp orange/vanilla. Yum!
Love that scent!!
My favorite thing ever was hearing my DAUGHTER say, “Mom, I’m pregnant.”

My favorite dish @ Pei Wei was taken off the menu! I can barely survive a bad sinus day without “Blazing Noodles”!
They had healing powers and were better than any decongestant…totally verklempt that they are GONE:(
LOVE Pei Wei in Nashville!! Yum!
My favorite hobby EVER is scrapbooking!! It’s a creative outlet, stress-reliever, memory-maker and preserver all in one! I’m trying to figure out how to make a career out of it….hmmm… ๐
My favorite thing ever is plain glazed donuts — soooo good. I think that I could eat a whole dozen and that is the reason that I seldom buy them.
My favorite Trader Joe’s find (this month) is mixing a carton of Low Sodium Creamy Tomato Soup with a large can of Marinara Tomatoes to form a tomato soup that is so flavorful and delicious, it converted even this former tomato soup hater. (Topped with TJ’s Parmesan and Garlic Croutons? You could even serve it to company.)
My favorite thing is lavender lotion from lavender farms. You can buy it from the farmers market at east side on Saturday mornings. Besides smelling like lavender my skin is so soft. Siestas it is hard to make my skin soft.
My favorite mascara ever is Blinc. It stays in place all day long and is easy to remove with only a wet washcloth. ( Warning….it does look like tiny little spiders on the washcloth when you wash it off!)
Your warning made me giggle out loud. Imagining the squeals of horror…
My favorite lip stick is one my friend wears called lip ink, it actually stays on and looks great. I can’t afford it yet, but I am gonna save up for some.
My favorite coffee to brew is Highlander Grog! It is a great blend of butterscotch and hazelnut. I always know it will be a good day when I have a cup ( or two) !
I love highlander too!
My favorite candy ever is Cadbury Mini Eggs. Not the ones filled with goo, but the ones that are solid Cadbury chocolate and have a thin pastel colored candy shell. They come in a purple bag and are only around at Easter. I mean how hard would it be to make the candy shell other colors and have them out all the time?? I guess then they wouldn’t be as special!!
They did!!! I found some at Christmas…..round and re, green and white. But buy them up, becuase I couldn’t find them again…..at Target.
Diet Coke with a fresh lime from Sonic! Mmmmm the ice just makes it! ๐

DITTO Girls! I get the strawberry limeade then try to freeze my cup to preserve that fabulous ice…but it doesn’t work!
My favorite lotion is Kai. It smells the way I think Hawaii would smell. Top it off with the Kai perfume, and Aloha, Baby!!
My favorite menu planning device is Saving Dinner Menu Mailer. You subscribe yearly and get a weekly email with 6 dinner recipes(from 2-6 people servings and side dish suggestions)and a complete grocery shopping list.
Bang, done, no thinking, little planning, cross items off list I already have and I’m off to the store. The new one is customizable so if you don’t like a recipe selection you can grab and drag another one and it updates your grocery list. Haven’t tried that but it sounds great! I’ve used it for years and have many favorite recipes from her list.

My favorite song is “Oh Happiness” by David Crowder Band. It puts pep in my step and goes along with Ann Voskamp’s book about grace (One Thousand Gifts) that I read a few weeks ago — another favorite.
No matter what kind of day it is, this song makes it full of joy. DCB is glorious.
My favorite fried chicken ever was from Gus’s in Memphis. We were sorry we didn’t get some more, take-out, to eat for dinner later. I hope that I get to go back there sometime & eat some more.

My new favorite thing is the new shellac nail polish – dries instantly and it’s great when you can just get your pedi and put your shoes right on instead of those floppy things I used to wear out into the cold. Love it!!!

My favorite thing ever is a quiet morning in a small house of a friend’s in the Italian Alps. Some day I hope to return and bring my new husband there too.

My favorite meal ever is Snapper Sapporito at Gaidos in Galveston, TX. I was 19 (over 20 years ago) the first time I ever had it, and it has been my favorite ever since! My husband plans a trip to Galveston at least once a year for me so that I can get my fix! If Heaven forbid I ever have a last meal (and know about it ahead of time), my husband or my best girlfriend is headed to Galveston!
I have always had a love for potato chips, the ruffled kind that crunch loudly when you take a bite of one…so good!
My favorite restaurant is Colterra in Niwot, CO!
My favorite drink ever is a Sonic strawberry limeade.
