DEAR SIESTAS! THE MERE THOUGHT OF YOU IS MAKING ME GO ALL-CAPSY.
It has been FOREVER and then some but I have been thinking about you. I know I haven’t been in this here blog-space much recently but I can assure you that I’m still at LPM. My days are full since I’m working and going to school part-time. AGAIN. Yes, again. Somehow even when I vow to walk away for good, I end up right back in the classroom in some capacity. This time around I’m working slowly on a M.A. in Biblical Languages at Houston Baptist University. When I’m not researching something for a project at LPM, I’m taking a Greek class in the Septuagint and a Hebrew readings class in the Joseph narrative. Oh, and how could I forget to mention Winston Jeffrey Fitzpatrick?! A little over a year ago Colin brought home a baby rottweiler and our life has never been the same since (even when I desperately want it to be!). Winnie is SO, SO bad but we love him madly.
Here is W posing in my dining room. Or demanding a filet mignon cooked over medium, I’m not really sure.
Here he is again furious about having to wear his birthday hat:
But really, enough about us.
I want to talk about YOU and a fall giveaway we are doing because we love you and appreciate you.
Now, I should mention at this point that if you are one of those people who is SO OVER all the talk about pumpkin-flavored anything, then you will want to run for your life.
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE.
Do I have a faithful fall remnant?
This weekend we had our first legit “cold-front” here in Houston. It was even down in the forties one night. Glory be! The crisp cold air in my lungs got to me in the best way possible and, of all things, I wanted to cook. There’s just something about fall that always brings me back to the kitchen. Nothing better than listening to a little Norah Jones or The Civil Wars with the windows cracked open, cool breeze dancing through the house, while a chili or stew simmers on the stove. I thought just maybe fall might do the same for some of you so the grand prize winner will get a redΒ Le Creuset signature round dutch oven (red not orange like the one on the box).
I love it passionately and do not want to let it go. I even enjoy posing with the beloved dutch oven:
The second prize to be claimed is a $100 gift card to Pottery Barn because, let’s be honest, Pottery Barn during the fall season is heaven on earth:
Gift number 3 includes an amazing decorative pillow, fall flower arrangement, and Hill Country Home candle.
Gift number 4 includes a fun little clutch from Anthro, a scarf, several pairs of boot socks, and some gorgeous MAC makeup in fallish colors.
Here is Lindsee modeling the scarf. Love her and she can work a scarf better than anyone I know:
This MAC stuff is tough to photograph but fantastic (includes three eye shadow kits and two lipsticks in shades of Russian Red and Viva Glam III).
Gift number 5 has a bunch of fun stuff: Cook’s Illustrated Fall Entertaining magazine, kitchen towels, mulling spices, Hill Country Home candle (again this is one of my faves!), autumn cupcake decorating set, beautiful engraved silver dish, Trader Joe’s Pumpkin bread mix, and more.
Gift number 6 comes with a fun autumn welcome mat, potpourri, decorative kitchen towel, and my favorite ever mulled apple cider candle. DIVINE.
Here is Mom sorting out all the gifts. Isn’t she cute?
So dear friend, for a chance to win one of the six prizes, please leave a comment with your first and last name and tell us something you love about fall.
We love you so much,
Melissa
(Lindsee not pictured here ONLY because she was out of the office when we snapped this photo)
I love being able to eat soup without sweating. I love paying lower electric bills because the pool pump is off. I love being cozy on the couch and not feeling like I should be out in the cold exercising.
I love fluffy socks, pumpkin seeds and sweet potatoes in the fall! (Especially since it was 31 degrees this morning!)
I love fall because I love the colors and the symbolism of beauty in death. I also love the changes of the seasons…summer to fall is one of my favorites because you can start to wear your sweatshirts and jeans again, and I can’t stand too much heat for too long. π I love corn mazes, hot cider, and pumpkin desserts! I love fall!
Joy Griswold
I love pulling out my sweat shirts for the first time and watching the leaves turn amazing colors! God’s glory abounds!
Boots, boots and more boots. I love being able to wear boots, tall socks and sweaters. There is nothing better. π
I love cooking special things with pumpkin and remembering my wedding anniversary!
Y’all are SO SWEET!!! I’m going all capsy too – hahahaha!!!
Fall is my favorite time of year, and my birthday (Sept 22) is the official first day of Fall. I think that is cool. Love the leaves, the cool, crisp air, and the anticipation of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Love and Hugs,
Adrienne
I love fall for so many reasons – the colors are blazing, the air is cool and refreshing, and there’s just a new sense of energy! I love the reminder as well that though the seasons change, the Lord does not. He is constant!
Fall…. In Georgia, we only get to enjoy it for about 2 weeks until it is winter! π I love fires, s’mores, and most things pumpkin! Any excuse for crustless pumpkin pie! π Thank you for hosting this amazing giveaway!
Cassie Grubbs
I absolutely LOVE strolling in some fall sunshine and breathing in the crisp air while drinking a caramel apple cider and wearing a fall scarf with matching boots…or sitting in the fall sunshine doing some focused Bible Study and journalling… Love me some fall!! π
Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin everything! Ice cream, bread, donuts, ravoli. It’s heaven!
Oh goodness, Melissa. We have to pick just one?
The crisp air. It’s anything-can-happen air. I know people say that about spring, but it’s not true for me. Spring is allergies and busyness and bright colors. Fall is fairies and forests and crunchy leaves. The winds of another time and place come and whisper stories untold of the holidays past and holidays to come. It is anticipation and memory all rolled up into one. π
I thing the most about fall is sitting next to the fire place with a cup a hot coffee, slippers on and soft music. ahhhhh
I love the Fall because of the cooler weather. I just love the crisp feel to the air in the Fall. I’m not a fan of the hot summer weather so I practically jump for joy once the calendar hits late September! LOL!
I love fall — the colors, crisp air, fall baking and Thanksgiving!
I love watching the colors change in the falls. Just going for a drive or a walk and looking at all the beauty that God has given us….I’m truely grateful that I can see and appreciate it! Louise Johnson
Fall is my favorite season! I love pumpkin everything, the gorgeous leaves here in Ohio, and the anticipation of Christmas!
I love the changing colors of the leaves and the pictures of the kids playing in them – we always make a big pile and my husband and girls get the first run at the pile – my all time favorite pic is of him and the girls jumping in.
I love the beautiful colors of the changing leaves on the trees, a warm fire, and this fall is definitely my favorite since my newest little granddaughter Sophia arrived last Thursday! Thankful to God for many good things that He gives to us! : )
I absolutely love snuggling up on the couch w my husband (we were married Oct 6) & watching football!!
You guys are the cutest, sweetest women ever!!! I love how beautiful fall is…the gorgeous mix of weather that highlights the beautiful shades of leaves!! I also love a cup of good coffee, baking something too sweet and yummy, chili and cornbread, boots, oversized scarves, sweaters and smokey eye makeup…Thank you for always thinking of us!! Thank you for your continued generousity and for showing your love so sweetly!!
Love anything pumpkin and Loving the cooler weather in GA
I love seeing all of God’s amazing trees change colors. Driving and seeing all of the reds, oranges, yellows and greens together is absolutely breath taking.
I love the first cozy fire in the fireplace, and lighting candles in the den.
My favorite thing about fall is boots, big scarves, and sweaters!
I love Fall for the arrival of joyous spirits dressed in their boots, scarves, and burnt orange mixed with maroon colors π #FabulousFall #Finally
Fall is my MOST favorite time of year! I love the falling leaves, the beautiful colors, decorating, pumpkins, taking my kids to fun things like pumpkin patches and fall festivals, hoodies, sweaters, boots, hot chocolate, Pumpkin Spice lattes from Starbucks, and everything else! Fall displays God’s most beautiful creations!! However, this fall I had a major fusion back surgery and am currently recovering. I haven’t been able to do the fall things that I love with my kids, but I am on the road to recovery! I would love to be a winner!!
I love fall for the colors of the leaves,
for the first hints of cold weather, and for warm soups, hearty stews, and baked apples.
I love this liturgical season as we wind down the Church year. It is a time of letting go and remembering. I love that this whole month of November is a celebration of those who have gone before us in faith.
Sister Lynn D’Souza
Thanks for doing this giveaway, it’s so sweet! What I love most about Fall? Evenings when I can open my windows, wear a hoodie and my slipper boots, and knit while drinking PG Tips and watching White Christmas. Le sigh.
I love Fall….But it seems that Winter is rolling in quickly… Argh! But stews simmering on the stove is awesomeness in the home. Thanks for the blog!
I am so blessed to be living on the East Coast for Fall! The beauty of the colors of even *dying* leaves is literally breath-taking. My heart has skipped so many beats lately! I hate hate hate being cold, so Winter is my most dreaded time of year and I struggle hard against SAD, but FALL is God’s gentle way of telling me that there is excruciating beauty in every season, no matter which or how bad it might feel for a little while. He leads me ever-so-mercifully through a gorgeous Autumn to remind me that there is hope on BOTH sides of Winter. Just have to hang on. So I love to FULLY CELEBRATE FALL! The goodness and mercy of God — a PROMISE to take us through every season with reminders of His creativity, goodness, and ever-presence. He is so kind.
Thank you for these AWESOME gifts!
Sydney Blanchard
The leaves changing color, crisp fall air, and baking lots of things with apple or caramel! π
I am always ready for a change in season when fall arrives and look forward to wearing sweaters and eating candy corn. Thanks for a fun giveaway! Melissa, I love the picture of Winston wearing his birthday hat; it makes me feel better about the picture I have of my dog with a cupcake and 2 candles to celebrate her 2nd birthday.
My favorite thing about fall is drinking lots and lots of Starbucks Caramel Apple Cider!
I love the brilliant colors and crisp cool air.
Jennifer Maynard; I love fall because I get to actually wear jeans and boots and won’t die from heat in Houston!
i enjoy a fire in the fireplace with hot chocolate and my husband…when it finally gets cold enough in South Georgia to light a fire!
I love everything about fall the smell, the leaves changing, the food, getting all cozy in fleece , and the beginning of the holiday season π
I love fall because as its getting cooler, there seems to be more time to sit and reflect. This has already been a “full fall” for me. I am expecting a little girl, piper Kate, this spring. Our doctor has determined we have a high risk that little piper will be born with Down’s syndrome. I’ve been spending a lot of quiet time with God lately praying he will prepare my heart and my head for this sweet baby he has blessed me with. I have looked at this fall differently. I know no matter what, this fall will be my last without piper, God willing. I am excited to know what she will think of cooler weather, colored leaves, and carved pumpkins.
Win or lose, please pray for my piper. She will be a gift no matter what and I’m excited to see what gifts He has blessed her with!
Shiffra Nimz I love the leaves changing colors and falling to the ground so I can walk through them and listen to that wonderful crunching sound.
I love the colors (bright! jewel! tones!) and the smells. And, for some reason, I think my home town becomes just a tad cozier during the fall season–football games, bonfires, hayrides, etc.
Oh, how fun! I love Fall because of the traditions that are all grouped together in a few months. I also love cool weather and staying inside with a warm drink! The leaves are beautiful and for someone who has a difficult time weathering the extreme heat of the summer, the cool temps are so nice!
Fall is a little bittersweet in Minnesota because it is only a matter of time until winter — but I’d have to say we do have some gorgeous fall colors. Those trees remind me that no matter how smart and creative I think I am, there is One who is infinitely more.
I love late in the fall when Starbucks brings back their seasonal coffee cups! And there is nothing like some big wools socks and a crew neck sweatshirt on a Sunday afternoon in the fall.
I LOVE PUMPKIN!!!! I was just thinking of attempting some pumpkiny pancakes pronto. The craving is in! I also love the cooler weather. We are in TX too and I think that 40ish degree weather night you were talking about is the same night my husband lit a fire in the back yard. YES!! We have to get in on it when we can! I also love gardening in the fall. Lots of goodness grows here in TX during the fall months:)
p.s. A friend’s husband posted on fb about one of those pots (they have a blue one). He said every time his wife cooks in that blue pot something amazing comes out. He said everyone should have one of those blue pots!!:)
Jenny Riddle: Oh, how can I choose only one thing about fall?! The crunching leaves under my feet, hot cider, changing leaves, new Christmas music albums being released, the incredible sunsets. Goodness, there are so many amazing things! Perhaps, one of my favorites, though, is the diminished humidity of the deep south and the return of good hair days.
I love the coolness of the mornings, coziness curling up with my wonderful hubby, and warm pots of soup!!
My fav for fall are that I was married in October, and I love to cook all the fall delacasies…with no guilt of course π
Hi there! I love when fall comes, you can start pulling out warm sweaters, cozying up with a book and a coffee, or take walks in brisk cold air!
Julie Huffman
I love everything about the fall season. The changing colors, the smells of leaves, pumpkins, campfires and apple cider…to name a few. I enjoy the fact that my mom and I share October birthdays one day apart and that many friends also share October as their birthday month.
I love the fact that while the earth changes in a beautiful way God is at work preparing for the coming Spring when all things become new again. Sort of like our relationship with him.
Thanks for this fun giveaway!
