James Calling: For Just A Little While!

Greeting From Beth, October 11,2010 from LPV on Vimeo.

My Dearly Loved Siestas, please watch the video greeting when you get a chance so that I can fill you in on what to expect for the next 2 months. This written post does not take the place of the video so please be sure to watch it. This is only to reiterate what I shared with you in the video about what to expect on here while I’m away. You will still find…

*Siesta Scholarship Giveaway Tickets to events that fall within this time period.

*Living Proof Live Recaps of the events that fall within this time period. (And, yes, I will read the comments to those events just like I normally would. I will just discipline myself not to write back.)

*A possible entry here or there on special occasions or when I’m bursting to tell you something that won’t really translate into the James study.

*”Talk To Me Tuesdays” – Every Tuesday I’ll put up a post where you do all the talking. (It will begin next week.) Tell me in a concise paragraph how you are, or what God is doing, or something funny that’s happened, or what you’re learning. Although I will hold myself back from responding to them, I will be anxiously and joyfully reading as many of them as possible. In this way, I get to continue to be inspired by your journeys with God and, when I’m tempted to respond, will, instead, put that energy into writing the Bible study. This format will also help you stay in touch with one another and allow you to directly respond to each other.

We will be very busy in 2011 here in Siestaville with the return of the Siesta Scripture Memory Team! I better take this chance NOW!

I could almost cry telling you how much you mean to me and how I will miss you. STAY IN THE WORD! Pray for your Siesta Mama. And I will pray for you. We’ll all be back together before you know it.

I love you. Really.

PS. Because Twitter doesn’t really consume creative energy (grin), I will probably try to keep up with that unless it gets distracting. So far it hasn’t been. It’s fun but I don’t have the attachment to it that I have here. If you want to join us there, it’s (this is so embarrassing) @bethmooreLPM. I feel like an idiot.

    Dear Beth,
So loving your studies, am doing my very first Beth Moore study with my church ladies group; the revised “A Woman’s Heart”. It is so powerful and I love it. I am also doing “Eat,pray, love” at home on my own. I love your enthusiasm and love for your siestas…
I pray that you and Melissa will be blessed as you write the study of James. I am so looking forward to doing more of your studies.
God bless your work! You’ll be in our prayers.

    Rhonda McClellan says:

    Dear Siesta Beth,

I’m so enjoying “A Woman’s Heart” Bible study right now. I wanted to shout last week when I learned the meaning of Bezalel’s name is “in the shadow of God”, as you had already taught us that the tabernacle shown Moses was a shadow of that in heaven, and now here is this man Bezalel with a name so signifcant chosen to construct the tabernacle. I just love it. I love how God is in every detail. I surely love you too Dear One. I’ll be praying for you, as you study and write, and for your precious girls. You are a blessing. Jesus Bless you!!

Beth you are such a kindred spirit, I can’t tell you how much I love your heart! You certainly do make us feel like “teacher’s pets.” I never felt more like one than when I got to meet you after the LPL at Mariner’s Church in CA. That was one of the happiest days of my life πŸ™‚ You will be missed, but I’ll still be checking in!

    Amy Kaeding says:

Beth~ there is the sweetest little girl here in Spokane Wa who, at 12 years old, has already done several of your studies and been to 2 of your arena events. She will be at the LPL in Spokane this month and it is on her bucket list to have you sit on her lap. If there is any way that she could meet you in person I know she would be thrilled! Thank you for being such an amazing roll model for young women! I am on the PPO team for this event and have been praying for 37 weeks now… we are so excited to see what God will do!!! ~ Amy (Her name is Sara Young)

Siesta Mama, while I will definitely miss “hearing” from you and Melissa, I totally understand and applaud your heeding the prodding of the Holy Spirit to make this hard decision. I love the idea of “Talk to Me Tuesdays”, too. πŸ™‚

Thanks for always thinking of us and loving us, it is such a ministry to me and countless others.

May the Lord bless you and Melissa as you spend this focused time in writing what He’s put in your hearts and minds to share about His Word!

    Lee says:

    Hey girls!
Thanks for the update. It is a good example for me to know when even a REALLY good thing needs to be stepped back from for a season.

    Meaty Paragraph to follow:

I live in RURAL…western Michigan…We have a town of 2,000 people and the nearest coffee shop is close to 40 miles. Beth, I am pulling into week 6 of facilitating Breaking Free. I lead a group of 34 women every Tuesday night and one of my mentors leads a morning group of 26 women on Tuesday mornings. That is 60! SIXTY! 60 women in our tiny neck of the woods committed to surrendering our yokes of bondage for the freedom Christ came to bring. Farm families. Unemployed families. I have a 24 year old in a group with a lady who is nearly 90 (and sharp as a tack!) May God be praised! We’re busting loose in Jesus’ name.

Heads down girls! And may those pages pen themselves by the power of the Holy Spirit. Woo!

Michigan Lee: this blessed me so! Thank you for sharing about your group of women and I adored your “meaty paragraph.” What a mighty God we serve – and to know there is an army of women across this nation preparing themselves in the Word just makes me want to shout!

      Love from a siesta,
      Georgia Jan

    Anna Mitchell says:

Oh sweet Beth, I must be hormonal….cause I cried through your video. Like my neighborhood friend was pulling away in a loaded down moving van. Pull it together, girl. I WILL be one of the siestas doing your James Bible study when it’s hot off the presses…so I am anxious to read what your creative thoughts (inspired by the Holy Spirit, of course) came up with while we were apart. I love the idea of “talk to me Tuesdays”…and I will.

You are loved more than you know, Ms. Beth. I hope that there are moments that God allows you to get an idea of just how much the community of God’s women love you.

  14. 364
    Celie says:

    Jessica says:

Beth, the way you talk to us and about us reminds me so much of the Apostle Paul sometimes – so incredibly tenderhearted towards the people you write and speak to! You want what’s best for us even if it means doing something difficult.

Thanks for taking the time to explain everything. It makes perfect sense, and I hope these next 8 weeks are full of God encounters for all of us!

    Love,
    Jessica

You are so dynamic & right on! I love your take on the verses, love your insight. Ginger Johnson is in my study group and she remembers you well. Another dynamic woman to lead me.

I am a new Christian, since April. I am SOOO on fire for The Lord’s Word – Praise hi name! I have lived in the pit for many years, it is wonderful to feel the light of God’s merciful love on my face!!

Be well, Siesta Mama! the Lord be with you in your duties and you will remain in my prayers for guidance & strength through your work. Be blessed – in Jesus’ love ~ D πŸ™‚

    Dayra says:

    Dear Beth,

This really has nothing to do with your post but I wanted to share my memory verse with you. This is only the second one I memorize so far. I cant wait until we get to memorize verses together!

(I am typing from memory so I hope I get it right!)

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord
to the glory of God the Father.

    Philippians 2:10&11

    Love and blessings to you,

      Terry says:

Dayra, several years ago I memorized those same verses. I love to recite them aloud, especially “JESUS CHRIST IS LORD, TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER!” I like to scare the enemy away with that one! HA!

Like you, I can hardly wait for the next Scripture memory session! I missed out on the last one. I think it’s awesome that you are getting a head start! Stick with it and you will find that memorizing Scripture is habit-forming. πŸ™‚

Congratulations on your huge accomplishment — TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER!

    Faran says:

Your heart toward us is so precious, Beth. Please know that you will be missed. I am praying that the Lord will use the James study in a new and unique way in your life. Much love to you,

    Faran

    Janet Scarth says:

Will miss you Siesta Mama! God bless you as you study and write! We did another study this fall and it has been good, but it hasn’t been You. Several of us have commented that we miss our Siesta Mama! πŸ™‚

  27. 377
    Mary says:

Amen to what God has called you to do! It is lovely to see how the Lord directed you and your girls in the decision about the blog. Blessings to you and Melissa as you take this time to write the study and to Amanda as she does her part as well.

    Crystal says:

Will keep you in my prayers. Your bible studies speak to my heart and soul in so many ways. Bless you for taking the time off to listen to God and use your gifts for all of us! We love you and will miss you but will be lifting you up in prayer often!

Doing your Ester study on my own right now. God is doing a HUGE work in me. Thank you for helping me to study His Word in a whole new way and for bringing His Word alive in my heart. I can not stand to just do one day at a time. I often do several as my kids nap and then I haven’t gotten any laundry done:-). Love it when you get lost in His Word!

Thank you for blessing my life in countless ways. You are shining His light in mine:-)

    Love you –
    Crystal

…also – you often say you just love women…God has convicted my heart so much over that. Do I love women or do I constantly compare myself to them? Thank you for showing my where I need to grow in love in Jesus!!

    Becky Wilburn says:

WE LOVE YOU, BETH. If you feel Spirit-led to take a 2 month Siesta, then we support you 100%! IT’S OKAY!
We are so looking forward to the Bible study on James. God has laid on my heart many times here recently about how we, as women, say some cruel and just plain mean things to each other, rather than lifting each other up, encouraging and supporting each other. Oh, the tongue can be a nasty little bugger. I just had to share that with you since you are writing the James study and I know James 3 speaks so clearly on this subject matter. God bless you and your family and your L.P. family too.
    Love & prayers, Becky Wilburn

    Sheila says:

Do what you need, dear Beth. We’ll be waiting for you when you come back.

May God speak clearly to you as you study His word!

    His and yours,
    Sheila

    Georgia Jan says:

Beth – What a precious, tender, and heartfelt message. I have never loved you MOORE! I felt your love for us siestas pouring through. I will pray for you and your sweet girls – Amanda as she mothers your grandblessings, and Melissa as she digs into the Holy Scrips.

Looking so forward to “Talk to Me Tuesdays” and Tweets from our Bethie.

Please take good care of yourself and know that we understand and we love you. I for one, simply feel blessed that you took the time to tell us what you’re doing.

This community is so REAL and RELEVANT!

We will miss you and your precious girls for this short time, but will definitely be praying for you all as you work hard to accomplish Gods will in this study of James. Love your Bible Studies and can’t wait for this one to come out. Will miss seeing your post but understand why you can’t blog while doing a Bible Study. Lots of brain power has to be used there.
    Praying all goes well.

Thanking God for all of you! You were the first Bible Study teacher that I ever had, 12 years ago when my walk with Jesus began. You have taught me so much, most of all to pursue Him with passion and to dig deeper.
This post of yours Blessed me today, I have been reading the book of James everyday and loving it for about the past 2 weeks. I don’t know if it was because I heard mention of your study but I give God all the Glory and will be praying for your writing with my whole heart as I continue to take a hold of James.

So excited about the James study- I know it is going to be stepping all over my toes, but in a good way. πŸ™‚ I’ll miss your blog posts but will be praying for you and Melissa as you write this study.

  44. 394

Oh my – thank you for your sacrifice. I understand it and applaud it, though as many have said, we will miss you.

    My “meaty” paragraph:

I am leading my first bible study at my church – doing “Breaking Free” using VHS tapes borrowed from another church. We are a small group averaging 5-7 ladies a week. We are just finishing week 4 and I am preparing tonight for the Session 4 video, and discussion. 5 yrs ago I was walked through the “steps to Freedom” by Neil T. Anderson. 3 years ago, I was walking out of a hospital ward into a counselors office. almost 2 yrs ago, I walked out of my counselors office for the last time – feeling like a new woman, still learning to take her first steps.. freed from a lot of bondage. 3 months ago, I started back again with my counselor, and God is using this study mightily in my life showing me more areas I need to surrender to Him and allow Him to work on. God is so good. I haven’t dared to look too far ahead, in case I get too scared to continue. But I know he is using it all for my good and His glory! Pray for me as I keep on leading – through God’s power!

Love you Beth. And praying for you through this writing process!
    Heather
    Mosinee, WI

  45. 395

    Beth,
When I started to watch this, i wanted to cry…not because you are taking a break, but because God has been asking me to also! I am not ashamed to admit that I have too much “contact” with people. (FB, and blogging.) And your “All excess is rooted in emptiness” really spoke to me during Breaking Free this morning. Too much people has left little time for my God. Therefore, I think I’ve allowed myself to put more faith in people then Him. So I am going to turn one of the faucets down for awhile, and let HIM teach me. I’ll be praying for you!

  46. 396
    Heather says:

Beth, thought I’d share this with you as I know you appreciate poetry. I have written poetry for as long as I can remember. The majority of my poetry is free verse- it usually doesn’t rhyme. My husband started writing poetry a few years back. His poetry always rhymes- I have dubbed him “the male version of Helen Steiner Rice”- read on to see why.

    Field of Dreams

The dreams that we hold dear in life will often pass us by

Like flowers in a field of dreams, they soon will wilt and die

For in the spring, they bud and grow, with all their beauty fair

And while the sun is shining bright, their fragrance fills the air

But storms arise and fall upon these flowers of our dreams

As stones of hail descend upon our precious hopes, it seems

That within this treasured field of dreams, all hope is lost in vain

For only waste is left behind when gone is all the rain

But in the clouds, we see a sign that we can take to heart

A promise made so long ago that builds for us an ark

A rainbow gives us hope again that God will never leave

If only trust, we give to Him, and on His bosom cleave

But faith alone can help us see Truth, when life to us is cruel

For God alone brings new life where death appears to rule

When hope is gone and faith is stretched, we feel we cannot win

He’ll plant new flowers in our field to become our dreams again.

Awesome! I love that you are so committed to your next study that you’d be willing to take a break from this group. I’m very new to the blog so I look forward to getting to know the other siestas . . . and I’m so glad that I now know how to pronounce siestas LOL . . . I wasn’t sure if you were going with the normal pronunciation or if y’all were playing on the twang of your fellow Texans. I love you and I thank you for teaching me to genuinely love other women.
