Watching my words (or mouth or tongue) has been a theme for me as well, since my scripture memory verses include Psalm 141:3 (verse #7) & Ephesians 4:29 (verse #9). Thank you for this verse & the support from the SSMTeam all year long!

Yay, 24 verses memorized! I love reciting Psalm 24, Psalm 8, plus Psalm 23, Psalm 100, and verses from Psalm 37 when I wake up at night. God provides such comfort and peace through his word, like a big warm hug from my Heavenly Father.
Thank you, Beth, for the challenge and encouragement to memorize scripture! It’s life changing.

This year, I am working through memorizing Psalm 34, and the very FIRST verse stops me in my tracks every time: “I will bless the Lord at ALL times; His praise shall CONTINUALLY be in my mouth.” I hear your word about the mouth, Ms. Beth! Every time I practice my verses, the very first one makes me stop and think about what has been coming out of my MOUTH. Is it blessing the Lord? Thanking God for this year and His word which is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness. Can’t wait to see y’all at the SSMT Celebration!!

    Exodus 4:12 ESV

Scripture memory has been key to enduring and flourishing through a most challenging and blessed season. I absolutely crave His Word. It has opened my eyes to see things as they are. It’s been said, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” as if lemonade is some plan-b resignation to make the best of something that isn’t as good as it should be. But what if lemonade is exactly the point? Then there is nothing that could be a greater good than lemons. How generous of God to know and to give us those hard-sour gifts at precisely the right moments for the necessary squeezing that produces the soft and sweet. The consistent Word has repositioned my heart to no longer receive the hard with a bemoaning resignation that I must attempt to master positive thinking over, but rather as a necessary grace without which I would never become or produce what I’ve been designed for. I guess now I see that old saying as, “When God gifts you lemons, fulfill your purpose.”

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Putting Scripture in my brain helps and heals me. Years ago I started the SSMT challenges and eventually memorized the book of James. Two years ago I started memorizing Hebrews and am finishing chapter five this year with our event and I will continue (it is 13 chapters long, but the book is meant to be spoken orally), because, really, what better endeavor is there? And what better to heal me? Thank GOD for his healing and refining WORD! Love you Beth and your team! Thank you for inspiring all of us!

I am amazed at how God has used the scripture that I have memorized by participating in SSMT. Since it is now memorized and forever embedded in my mind, He brings it to my memory when I need encouragement, discipline, or just a Word from Him. SSMT helps me to stay disciplined and focused throughout the year. This year, I took Beth’s suggestion to memorize a chapter. I memorized Psalm 25. I have enjoyed it so much that I also memorized Psalm 103 and I am in the process of memorizing Romans 6. I am very “bummed” that I can not attend the End of the Year celebration, but I will one year – that is on my bucket list.

      Thank you!

I made a commitment that only the Lord could have helped me keep, I committed to read through the entirety of scripture during the year. As of this morning, I’m on track to finish! That commitment along with memorizing my verses have changed me. I thought about that this morning. I’m a different person than I was a year ago and God did it through His word. I’ve battle through a lot of situations this year and having those verses have kept me from going under. There is nothing better, I just want to keep going!

This year I have especially loved memorizing verses that can be prayed. Psalm 25:5 is an example: Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.”
    I Thessalonians 5:28 (NKJV)

I have loved memorizing scripture throughout the years but this was the first time God spoke to my heart to memorize an entire chapter of scripture. Honestly, I think that will be my approach in the future as I enjoyed the flow of it and that it made sense. I chose I Thessalonians Chapter 5 because I knew I was going to do the Children of the Day Bible Study this past summer. After that study, I completed the Entrusted study. So all in all, through memorizing I Thessalonians 5, I felt like I got to know Paul better and I found a tone and rhythm in his word and sentence structure that I recognize throughout his writings in the New Testament. It’s almost as if my spirit quickens when I come across a familiar phrase of his and I delight in it as if I’m receiving a word from a dear friend. It’s been a delight to be a part of this sweet community of fellow Christ followers on a mission to hide God’s word in our Hearts.

“Avoid godless chatter because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.”

    Dear Beth,

This is my 1st year participating in SSMT and I have loved it and you and your team’s encouragement along the way. There are many verses I could talk about that have impacted my life this year but the one I want to share is my very first verse in January: Micah 6:8 –
“He has showed you O man what is good – and what does the Lord require of you – to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” This verse talks about having a Godly outward focus (act justly); Godly inward focus having a loyal love for God and others (love mercy) and an upward focus (walk humbly with your God). This has been my KEY verse for 2017 – it sums up for me how I am to believe, walk, think and act as a Believer of Jesus Christ and has been a verse I have dwelt on throughout 2017. I am so excited about having a KEY verse for the year to dwell on – that I am proposing to my family (we live with our son, dtr-in-law & 2 grand girls) that we select a family KEY verse for 2018. I’m praying that if this idea is orchestrated by God that it will be embraced! Looking forward to Ft. Lauderdale and to another year of SSMT! I have been a lone wolf in this venture this year – I know no one else who has done this – but I am going to share this with other friends and encourage them to jump in as 2018 begins! Thanks again for allowing God to use you! Joan

“And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.” 2 Timothy 2:24 NIV

I have loved being part of the SSMT this year! Every single verse has been a blessing – one in particular has come to mean more to me personally this year. It is a verse I have often prayed for others but the more I recited it in my memory work I realize that I need it too. Thank you Lord!

“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5, ESV
Memorizing bible verses in the community of other believers has meant so much to me this year. Knowing we were all persevering and walking together in this practice/discipline. Memorizing God’s word kept me steady when life was not.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you ! Don’t be frightened , for I am your God. I strengthen you- yes Inhelp you – yes I uphold you with my saving right hand ! Isaiah 41:10

I started out the year with scriptures about the presence of God. I had no store what was in store for me this year, but I really needed those in my heart by years end. I found a piece of waxy paper on my patio and picked it up for the trash , and it was the above Bible verse. I have never seen the type of paper it was typed on. What an interesting way for God to speak !

I am praying this verse helps me say what I don’t know how to say in a very difficult situation that I am in but SSMT has been life changing. Because of the verses I have memorized over the years, when I face battles of any kind, I find that they are right at the tip of my tongue, ready to yield against Satan. Thank you!!

I have been so much more committed to scripture memorization through SSMT. I praise the Lord that I was introduced to this vital ministry and am now more committed to go forward and memorize verses that speak to where I am in my walk with the Lord. I go to sleep reviewing my verses and this final verse ties this year up with a lovely bow. Thanks again!!

    Heather Wilkinson says:

    Heather Wilkinson
    Springfield, VA

    Rev 21:5-7 (NIV)
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.

What has this meant to me? This group helps me to stay accountable. Through SSMT I have made a new best friend and between the two of us and the journey we have taken my faith has been strengthened. Hard times this year and always the right verses come up. I found this group “by accident” in 2013 and have memorized scripture ever since. Now I can’t imagine my life without all of these verses stored up in my heart. This group (okay it is God really) has changed my life so much. I would not be the person I am today if I had not started memorizing scripture here. I also do not think I would have made it through the hard times of the past few years without all the verses that have been given to me.

I don’t know why I have never asked God to help me with memory work before but when Beth suggested we ask Him it was like a lightbulb. Of course we should ask Him to help us memorize His word! Memorization came easier, I stayed on task better and He gave a deeper understanding than I’ve had before. What our mind is set on matters a great deal. I started memorizing chapter 8 of Romans. I’m up to verse 27 and I hope to be to the end in time for Florida! Thanks for challenging us to memorize God’s Word!
