Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy.Ā On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!
Basic written instructions in case you have trouble with the video:
Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community.Ā
Ā
Hereās what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)
Ā
1. Your NAME.
2. Your CITY.
3. Whether youāre going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.
4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe itās that youāve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!
5. BONUS question (optional):Ā WHAT IS A QUIRK OF YOURS?? Come on, now! Tell us!
If you’re meeting with a small group, share your answers to questions 4 and 5.
Ā
I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:
Ā Week 1 Memory Verse:
Ā 1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.
Week 2 Memory Verse:
1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If youāre watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Here is the link: Children Of The Day Sessions
Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.Ā
I am so honored to serve you and study with you this summer! Can’t wait to see your names and locations! So much love to you, Sisters! We joyfully embrace each one of you.Ā
1) Kaylee Jinks
2) Wichita, Ks
3) I’m going solo
4) I’ve just entered a new season in my life. I’m 23, just graduated from college, just found out that my husband and I are expecting our first baby coming in January, and my husband is working on a job four hours away for the next two months. I need some good quality time with the Lord as much as I want it.
5) I spent time in Haiti where hardly anyone spoke English so my creole really got some work. Now I still mix Haitian and English words when I’m at home or out in public without noticing.
The teachers are excited to have the summer to relax and rejuvenate. We usually do a Beth Moore Bible study, but we have never done the Siesta Summer Study. We look forward to fellowshipping with each other and Beth Moore.
I forgot to answer all the questions. . .
2. We are from Des Moines, Iowa
3. We are meeting in each others homes on Thursday mornings
4. We love each other and desire unity in the ministry of teaching young people
5. We have many quirks (we celebrate National Pig Day, some of us have Lunch Fairies, we like to mix up the letters on our hallway displays to make it look like a spelling error, we write each other poetry when someone is having a bad day, and we sometimes dress alike)

Our church does ladies Bible studies by various authors during most of the year but takes the summer off. We will do this study in the fall, but I thought it would be good to do it now while I have more time for the homework, and then repeat it in the fall. I was assuming we could watch the videos as part of this and had not realized we would have to pay for each one, so I guess I will save that part for the fall.
A quirk – I do not want the shade pulled down on the window in the living room if it is still light outside. I don’t mind those in other rooms closed during the day, but I must be able to see out this window till it is dark.

3. Small group of three meeting in our church
4. Our larger small group meets weekly for Bible study and we study the Scriptures using your publications. That guidance leads us to mine them for background and explanation and understanding and application. This summer opportunity is not to be missed!
5.I grow frustrated with product packaging that does not allow you to get everything out of the creases and molding of jars or the bottom of pump bottles. It’s difficult to clean them for recycling.(I cut across pump bottles to scoop out the lotion, conditioner etc. in the bottom)

5. I have so many – off the top of my head, I crave sweets the most at breakfast time!
Aww, I didn’t have a chance to watch the video before I signed up. I just watched it, and after hearing Beth’s Coney Island quirk, I couldn’t resist sharing another quirk I thought of… – I love Eggs Benedict WITHOUT the Egg! Breakfast in bed was a birthday tradition in my house growing up, and my mom would always make us Eggs Benedict, only I don’t like eggs! So, instead, I had an english muffin with bacon, cheese, and LOTS of Hollandaise. (It is super healthy, as you can tell!) If I had a restaurant, I would serve that on the brunch menu and call it the Benedict Arnold!

3. Going solo baby!
4. I am particiapting for 2 reasons… First, my husband and I are in ministry and moved to Ohio about 6 years ago. In our old town we had a fantastic group of 40-60 women who always did bible studies together. Now I don’t have that and I miss it so badly. Second, I am pregnant with our second child and I want my heart to be cleansed as we prepare for this newest little bundle of joy!
5. Quirk: I have selective OCD. For example, I have to eat a fudge sickle a certain way, and I have to organize my groceries on the check-out conveyor belt so that they can “properly” bag the groceries. hahaha.

4. I’ve been in a dry season and life has me exhausted. Looking forward to being renewed and getting back into rich Biblical community.
5. I can’t set my alarm for a “normal” time like 6:00 or 6:30. Instead, it has to be set for something like 6:03 or 6:38. No rhyme or reason to the randomness, as long as it’s not a typical time.

5. Listen, I have more quirks than I know what to do with. My quirks have quirks. The one I am dealing with presently is that I obsess over areas that need decisions, then once the decision is made – it is all good.

Small Group – (we offer 2 Sunday School classes on Sunday)
I personally want to grow in God’s Word and become the wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend that God has called me to be. Studying scriptures w/ Beth’s Bible Studies has helped me grow and learn more than I ever thought possible.
Quirk – I work in an office w/ all men – but have my own Ladies Restroom, but every Monday morning I have to clean my restroom w/ Clorox wipes just in case the men have used it over the weekend!! I guess I have a germ phobia – cause I hate touching door knobs, anywhere, and will pull off my sleeve if I need to, in order to open doors! LOL! That’s weird, I know, sorry:/

4. This is a true season of awakening for me. The Scriptures came alive in the winter of 2013, and I haven’t wanted to put the Scriptures down. I physically cannot walk away.
5.Quirk: I hang out in my closet. It’s crazy. I study the Word there; I pray there; I cry in there; I love it in there. I often dream of putting a really comfy chaise up against the wall–one day. When I was a teenager and angry or hurt or sad with my parents, I would sit cramped up in my closet. My stepdad was always the one who came and found me and would convince me to come out.
I just can’t seem to find a better place to be to hear God.
Cindy Cannon
Otterville, IL
I will be doing the study with a neighbor at my house, at the kitchen table.
The reason I could really stand to be in Bible Study: Encouragement and Directions, I could always use some encouragement as I walk this path called Life, and I am always asking the Lord to show me the direction I should go, I know the one place to find the road map, HIS WORD!
A quirk of mine: Detailsā¦.Detailsā¦.Detailsā¦.. I like details, and I know that is annoying to some people š
Canāt wait the Holy Spirit to sweep over me as I dig into Godās Word!

Lydia, Gadsden, Alabama. Solo. I normally do seminary classes throughout the year, but I’m taking the summer off. It will be nice to do some studying without being graded on it. š My quirk is that I’m very excitable. I never react on a small scale to anything, good or bad. This can prove funny and/or disastrous.
