Siesta Summer Bible Study 2014: Launch and Registration!

Welcome everybody! This is our first gathering for Children of the Day and we are incredibly blessed to have you along! If you’re just now hearing about it, we’d love for you to join us! You’ll find it most helpful to begin by reading this previous post that includes our approach, our summer Bible study schedule and many other specifics: (SSBS 2014 Info post) All you need to participate is the workbook entitled Children of the Day. We only officially “gather” here on the blog every two weeks because summers are so busy.  On each of those 5 Tuesdays (starting today), you’ll find a video I’ve prepared for you with instructions for that day. I’ll also remind you to do the next 2 weeks of Bible study before our next gathering. View it personally if you are going solo or, if you’re joining in with others, with your small group. I’ll always put the bare bones of that gathering’s instructions in print in the post as well (as you’ll see below) in case you have any trouble viewing the video. Here’s your first one!

Register for our summer Bible study by simply leaving a comment to this post per instructions below. Of course, you can take part without registering but you’ll get much more out of it if you fully participate. It not only increases accountability. It stirs up a sense of belonging and fellowship which is so important to us here in this blog community. 

 

Here’s what we’d love for you to supply in your registration comment today: (Try to limit yourself to this information so it will be easy to read and count.)

 

1. Your NAME.

 

2. Your CITY.

 

3. Whether you’re going SOLO or in tandem with a small group. If you’re in a small group, share approximately how many are in your group and where you are planning to meet.

 

4. Share in a sentence or two why you could really stand to be in Bible study this summer. Maybe it’s that you’ve never been in one before. We would be elated! Or maybe it’s been a long time. If so, this is a great time and place to come back home to the heart of Jesus. Maybe you’re just hoping to get to know Christ a little better. Or, perhaps you’re interested in particular subject matter that appears on the pages of 1st or 2nd Thessalonians. On the other hand, maybe you especially need to be in the Scriptures because you have extenuating circumstances that could really challenge you this summer. What’s motivating you to get into the Scriptures with us this summer? There are no wrong answers!

I will pitch out a memory verse each week for anybody who wants to participate:

 Week 1 Memory Verse:

 1 Thessalonians 1:4 The NET Bible: We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that He has chosen you.

 

Week 2 Memory Verse:

1 Thessalonians 2:8 The NET Bible: …with such affection for you we were happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

 

 

Do WEEKS ONE AND TWO of your homework before our next gathering in two weeks! If you’re watching the OPTIONAL video teaching sessions, you will want to watch Session 1 this week before you start your homework and Session 2 before you start your second week of homework. Don’t feel pressured to go to the added expense. All you need to participate in the summer study is the workbook.

    4. I love Beth Moore as a teacher. All my studies are ending, want to keep God as close as I can.
    I feel more connected when I am in the word. I am fairly new at bible study (1.5 years). Looking
    forward to memorizing verses, tho it will be the hardest part I am sure!!

    4. I see where God has brought me and how he is using me but love that this study will show me in the Word, that I am where He wants me to be.
    5. I make up songs using familiar tunes with new words to fit the circumstances. E.g. I made up a song to the tune of “hooray for Hollywood” that tells my Mom, who suffers with severe dementia, who I am. She loves to dance when I sing! Praise God!

    4. Moving within the last two months has been a huge transition in many ways! Personally, I feel like this is a dry season for me, and I would benefit from being in something structured with accountability.

    4. My husband is deploying in Fall and I am due to have our 4th child in Jan. I have felt lead to this study for some time. I just want to be in the Word.

    4. I looking at about a year of transition ahead of me and I am looking to stay grounded in the Word every way I can

    5. I cannot stand it if a cold beverage sweats onto the table. If I go to a restaurant, I ask for extra napkins so I can place one under the glass. If I see a puddle forming, I will keep glancing at it until I can get something under the glass to soak up the water : )

    4. I had a baby last year, work full-time, and find it hard to attend a regular Bible study like I used to pre-baby. I need a time of refreshment with the Lord and more focused study to grow closer to Him.

    4. It has been a few years since I have been in a Bible Study, I am going through a dry time in life and I would really like to be in God’s Word more and to hear Him speak to me.

    4 just finished Beth’s study of James, and I’m eager for more! My Bible study group doesn’t meet in the summer, so I’m happy to be with my Siesta Summer Sisters!
    5 I don’t like edges! I eat around the outsides of burgers so I end with the best part, the middle; I don’t take a brownie if it has an edge from the pan; and I don’t get within 3 feet of cliffs or drop offs!

    We just finished a great book by Casandra Martin and were looking for something to do in the summer months. I saw this on Facebook and so we decided to join. We have done almost all of Beth’s books in the past so we are looking forward to this one!

    My quirk I have to have a bottle of water in the car with me at all times in case I get stuck on the highway.

    4. I completely forgot about summer bible study starting up! Today while waiting to pick up from school, I was realizing I have been in a funk, really letting myself get sucked in by troubling world news headlines and all things social media, so I wrote a note to challenge myself to spend 20 minutes in the Word each day. Then tonight I saw the blog post and just smiled. Love it when the Lord sets me up like that:)
    5. I can’t sleep if there is any kind of blinking light in our room from a phone or other electronic device. Even if I manage to fall asleep, it will wake me up later.

    4. Accountability and stay consistently in the Word, Do life and walk through the TRIALS of life together. We have a lady in our small group who has lost a husband recently and has five young children. We also have a mom that is waiting for a heart transplant for her son, open heart surgery for her daughter and has recently been diagnosed with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy.

I am doing this study in two small groups; one meets Thursday nights at our church and the other is a new group starting on Monday mornings. Monday mornings is our “remix” group . Stirring up new friendships. My quirk? Um let me think….still thinking…….I always sit on the outside chair of any row at church or my back to the wall at any restaurant.

    4)I lead a local bible study throughout the year but we take a summer break. I am doing this study to feed my spiritual life so when we meet again in August I have been spoken into by the word of God and have been refreshed.
    5)I am a foodie and will dive into every opportunity within my community to taste the latest and greatest creation if it is eating a burger where no seating is available and you stand under a tin roof outside or you venture to a local fish market and they hand you fried fish with tarter sauce and cole slaw with hushpuppies that they just cooked made to order for less than $5 dollars.

    3. doing two groups… i’m a teacher and a few other teacher friends of mine are doing it on thursday mornings…. but starting on the 12th because of our school year not being over just yet…. we’ll be a week behind…. hope that’s allowed. There are 5 of us. And then, doing it in the evening with 2 younger gals who work during the day…. probably tuesday evenings, but also starting next week….

    4. I write and teach Bibke studies with groups of women online as well as at my home church. I participate in Bible studies as a student to make sure I’m hearing from God and continuing to learn.

    4. This is a summer of transition for me as I will be both a homeschool AND public school mama this Fall. Coming off of a year in which I feel like I’ve grown the most spiritually in a long time, I want to stay plugged into the Word. As a ministry leader, I need to. The “J” in me needs a plan to keep me accountable and just as I was praying for some kind of study to do over the summer, I stumbled up this. Plus, we just finished studying “James” at church so this feels like the perfect next step. 🙂

    5. My quirk: I love dead languages. Have studied bits of Latin and Hebrew, but found my true love 3 years ago when I started studying Koine Greek. REALLY looking forward to the word studies portion of this study!
